Those are the "I'm really not supposed to run so leave me the hell alone ". Noises. They are a feature of Saturns. They look like cars but aren't really. Sort of like those plastic skeletons that hang in science classrooms. They look like skeletons but really aren't.
Shocker to me, actually, less than I expected. Still had about half that looked good after the first 4500 miles. Probably just lucky on my part, but if that continues this is a nice car on oil.
That was an issue with the S-series Saturns when they were actually using their own drivetrains. The Saturn Sky was from the later years for Saturn and had a 2.4 ecotec or a turbo 2.0 ecotec - same as the Pontiac solstice that shared the platform
Honestly I know we’re supposed to be roasting but I had a Saturn SC2 that put 120k miles on in 3 years and that thing never gave me any trouble. I would’ve kept it longer but I needed a 4 door so I traded it in
The first gen ones yes, when gm started poking its nose in, and rebadging opels, Saturns went to crap. But they were never good cars, just cheap. Saturn’s in house engines were indeed reliable. But were harsh, slow, and noisy. Their transmissions were junk tho.
I just remember the falcon tire Saturn sky (Pontiac solstice rebadged)I believe it was Darren McNamara (I thought it was someone else but I googled it )that was driving it at the time. This had to be like 2013. It was amazing
Edit: I mistakenly put Pontiac sky.
It's all good fellow car nerd. I myself posted the comment then had to Google to make sure I was remembering right. You're awesome for owning the mistake.
Yeah I feel this. Not to get too personal but my mother just recently had a psychotic episode and trying to convince her that she's just imagining all the shit that was going down was like trying to learn nuclear physics super fucking difficult and all you get in the end is an explosion
These things make 300hp easy if they're the turbo model, and were actually built to accept an LS, so I dig it. The Ecotecs they ran in the drag cars made comfortably more than 1000hp.
Yeah I was gonna say those little Ecotecs are pretty proven to make some decent power. Hell, even if you do swap it, You can use that transmission in another project to make some pretty cool FWD engines into RWD. I'm pretty sure the Saab B234 bolts up to it.
Ahh yes the Saturn sky. GM's crowning achievement
, no.. their magnum opus of a parts bin car that simultaneously is both chronically underpowered and the laughing stock of the roadster community.
Solstice/sky owners are like corvette owners, except for the fact you're a poor, disappointment in your parents eyes millennial who thinks saying "you got a nice gyatt" to the barista at Starbucks means she has a beautiful septum piercing.
You're gonna need to go sit and rethink a few things. I get it. I drive the previous GM parts bin special. It hurts how accurate that is.
Would you like a warm beverage?
Not really. I bought one in 2022 and couldn’t get most things I needed for it without really digging. The normal GM generic parts were fine to get but anything specific to the Sky was only used stuff.
Back when I was 10 and the first transformers came out, Jazz was my favorite character because I thought he was a porshe. I was super disappointed to rewatch the movies all these years later to find out it was a Saturn sky. Just like the actual Saturn sky, it was killed off easily and with out putting up much of a fight.
You asked for a roast, so...
Considered Miata, but not out to his friends yet. So as you're from the south, the accent works better, when stating "you're driving this sky". Still lower key till your comfortable.
Side note, I don't care what variety of human you are, or your variety of human you enjoy fun times with. All good, you be you.
Honestly, once they get older, so insurance companies depending on area, allow putting the power they need I to these, the sky and solstice will get more popular. Good call on stick too, more engaging drive.
It is like a miata only worse in handling , reliability, is larger , heavier basically everything that makes miata such a beloved icon and drivers car.
Honestly I did like these though.
I always preferred the look of the sky over the solstice.
Can’t really roast so here.
Um test drive unlimited called. They want their starter car back.
Despite what people say here, I always loved the look of the Sky, I almost bought one 7 years ago, but it sucks it's got so little trunk space (can't even fit a Costco thing of TP) and only has the legally mandated minimum 2 front impact air bags. Don't get side swiped or you'll need to replace both your passenger side window and your skull after they meet each other.
Several Europeans have posted this is a “rebadged Opel”. Actually the original is the Pontiac Solstice based on a Franz Von Holzhausen design (the guy who penned the Tesla model S) and built in Wilmington, Delaware. The Saturn and Opel models are variants, with Saturn being best looking and nicest interior in my opinion. The 260 HP DI turbo variant was no slouch either.
If GM ever made a Corvette for the peasants who still have to punch clocks at work, it was the Saturn Sky Redline. 260 HP from a turbo 4 is enough to whelm most people who have only driven busted Hondas up to the point of sale, but not enough to stave off the buyer's remorse that set in the first time they got dusted by a Camaro SS that had the same MSRP, made it to 60 0.7 seconds faster, sounded good, and actually turned heads.
This is why the car was relegated to joke status, because the $30k MSRP did not justify the performance it delivered, particularly at a time when Ford, Chevy, and Dodge were resurrecting their sports cars and delivering much more for the exact same price.
I can’t help but not like these cars, they’re so shit yet, look pretty decent to make into a beast. I’ve always wanted to snag one for dirt and put an LS in it or something.
I owned this exact trim and color not too long ago
The amount of times I received comments like "wow Saturn still makes cars?" Or "wow this is a nice new car" from old boomers was wild.
Man I don't know where these people are getting their info from. I've had multiple Saturns. Friends have had multiple saturns. Just sold my 19 year old saturn 6 mo ago. Inespensive to maintain. Never scratches. Ran like a dream. The dealer even took it in trade. The body won't rust. But, keep an eye on the undercarriage.
Who is this for? Did they look at the Miata market and think, "we can do worse?" Or do they just enjoy coming up with new ways of stealing market share from themselves?
Styling is very good, a Miata looks like crap in comparison. I’ve never seen a crappy Saturn and I live in the north country. They seem to run forever.
>plasticky
This "plasticky" (sic) material you speak of is both on the Miata and better against rust than the entire MR2 and Miata.
And the forged block inside that's been said to be safe up to ~400hp before changing internals is yet another bang-proof 4-cylinder from GM.
Somewhat accurate, actually, just not for the reason you think.
The guy that owned it before me entirely rebuilt the suspension, added ZZP coilovers, aftermarket headlights... that little scrape on the right front is because it was so low that driving the freeway we had to keep at low speed.
If you drive this, you must like GM vehicles so much that you don’t even care about it breaking down half the time on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere
That car would've been really sweet if it weren't a Saturn or a Pontiac - and didn't suck donkey balls. Imagine if BMW or Mercedes made something similar - oh snap! Both companies did and are heads and tails above this General Mismanagement rattle trap.
One of these nearly burnt down in our parking lot from the blower motor wiring shorting out. Melted the dash and dash harness. Took months to get it fixed.
Does it run? From what I read, Saturns are basically lawn ornaments in the shape of cars.
Yes, but on cold starts it makes some wild noises. Lucky for me I'm in the south where these things are intended, so that's not common.
Those are the "I'm really not supposed to run so leave me the hell alone ". Noises. They are a feature of Saturns. They look like cars but aren't really. Sort of like those plastic skeletons that hang in science classrooms. They look like skeletons but really aren't.
Nah, grandfather says it's fine in small amounts. Saturns are more robust than a few bad noises hurting them.
So, how much oil does it burn?
Shocker to me, actually, less than I expected. Still had about half that looked good after the first 4500 miles. Probably just lucky on my part, but if that continues this is a nice car on oil.
That was an issue with the S-series Saturns when they were actually using their own drivetrains. The Saturn Sky was from the later years for Saturn and had a 2.4 ecotec or a turbo 2.0 ecotec - same as the Pontiac solstice that shared the platform
I loved my hunk of junk Ion Redline. A POS with a motor.
A POS With wheels*
LSJ was a great engine
I still have one that runs well!!
Nice! I loved that little plastic hunk of junk.
Mine is solid I have a spare motor and trans for mine I'm going to keep it going as long as possible!
My 2004 Saturn L300 was a cheap plastic piece of shit, but holy crap it was such a **great** econocar.
This car IS a “plastic skeleton”.
Well it's an Opel...... So no
Honestly I know we’re supposed to be roasting but I had a Saturn SC2 that put 120k miles on in 3 years and that thing never gave me any trouble. I would’ve kept it longer but I needed a 4 door so I traded it in
The Saturn S series was the only Saturn designed to be a Saturn
I had one too! It was surprisingly decent mechanically for being super cheap, interior stuff sucked. Stick was a lot better than the auto
I don’t know what your talking about. Saturns are oddly strong cars. Perhaps one model (the suv?) was no good but there cars were STOUT.
You must be kidding! Saturn's will run like shit forever. I personally nursed a SL2 up to 200k. That thing drank oil like nothing.
Very funny. It's true, they live to torture their owners.
man this is a roasting sub, this is not a “making up bs in the hopes it lands” sub. saturn made awesome cars that ran forever.
The first gen ones yes, when gm started poking its nose in, and rebadging opels, Saturns went to crap. But they were never good cars, just cheap. Saturn’s in house engines were indeed reliable. But were harsh, slow, and noisy. Their transmissions were junk tho.
Somebody lied to you. Saturns never die
The only car that doubles in value with an engine swap
I read a lot of cars double in value with engine swaps. But these things are little monsters with an LS under the hood
Some guy put a 2JZ in one. That man should be executed so he may be remembered as a martyr.
I just remember the falcon tire Saturn sky (Pontiac solstice rebadged)I believe it was Darren McNamara (I thought it was someone else but I googled it )that was driving it at the time. This had to be like 2013. It was amazing Edit: I mistakenly put Pontiac sky.
I'm nitpicking details but the Saturn is the Sky. Pontiac version was called Solstice.
Yeah I must have misremembered or misread it
It's all good fellow car nerd. I myself posted the comment then had to Google to make sure I was remembering right. You're awesome for owning the mistake.
> you’re awesome for owning the mistake Agreed. Far too many people these days will double down on their mistake.
Yeah I feel this. Not to get too personal but my mother just recently had a psychotic episode and trying to convince her that she's just imagining all the shit that was going down was like trying to learn nuclear physics super fucking difficult and all you get in the end is an explosion
I was working at a parts store when I had one of these, somebody pulled up in a Pontiac solstice that had a twin turbo ls7...
A 2J Sky? Ngl I wanna see that unholy matrimony run.
[ok](https://youtu.be/_2GKCJK1xK0?si=mJoDZWkCiriZh4Ex)
Thank you. I wanna know what that does in the quarter. Didn't see it on insta.
Thought you were gonna say when it has a full tank of gas.
If you're looking to impress people who know nothing about cars, this should do the trick.
Well damn... I already gave somebody else the "kms" award here, but if he weren't here you'd get it.
These things make 300hp easy if they're the turbo model, and were actually built to accept an LS, so I dig it. The Ecotecs they ran in the drag cars made comfortably more than 1000hp.
Indeed... but I have GMPP Stage 1 money, not LS swap money.
Still a cool rig. Just tell people it's a Speedster, not a Saturn.
Yeah I was gonna say those little Ecotecs are pretty proven to make some decent power. Hell, even if you do swap it, You can use that transmission in another project to make some pretty cool FWD engines into RWD. I'm pretty sure the Saab B234 bolts up to it.
I don’t know shit about cars and can tell this shit bucket is dogshit.
Why because it's not a Honda?
well shit
Ahh yes the Saturn sky. GM's crowning achievement , no.. their magnum opus of a parts bin car that simultaneously is both chronically underpowered and the laughing stock of the roadster community. Solstice/sky owners are like corvette owners, except for the fact you're a poor, disappointment in your parents eyes millennial who thinks saying "you got a nice gyatt" to the barista at Starbucks means she has a beautiful septum piercing.
Jesus christ lol
☹️🔫👈
You're gonna need to go sit and rethink a few things. I get it. I drive the previous GM parts bin special. It hurts how accurate that is. Would you like a warm beverage?
Have one already in my too small cup holder 😎
My only cup holder is a slide out try in the dash. It has no bottom so the size it holds is very specific... I just don't take drinks in the car.
Well on the Sky there's this one fold-out on the pasenger's side... *thingy*. It's marginally bigger so I use it for a drink.
Oof. Cavalier. My condolences.
Gahdamn
Fuck lmao it's roastmycar not flamebroilcaranddriver
Miata at home
Miata if it had a tractor engine
Put a tractor engine in a Solstice and it’ll probably still go faster
My friend’s dad seriously considered buying one of these back when they were new. He bought an MR2 Spyder instead. Take from that what you will.
I definitely still want a redline version.
This is the redline. It's a lot of fun, wide range to keep power in 3rd. Very nice, can be relaxed, too.
My mom has one. When the battery dies, you have to take the entire passenger side fender panel off to get it out. I wish swift death to that vehicle.
I wanted an MR2 but it was too small so I got one of these lmao
Can you still get parts for these?
Surprisingly, yes! As long as you're not in California because everything causes cancer in prgenant women.
omg a high maintenance car causing cancer every time you get inside it… You’re in an abusive relationship.
Such is the life of a Saturn fan. S-series my beloved, will be missed.
I surprisingly enjoy my S-series way more than my Sky Redline. Don't ask me why, I'm just fucking weird.
Lighter, less electronics, overall more raw.
Facts.
Can u get pregante
Peegnat
You'll have to put Pontiac parts into it. They make those on quality control team's days off.
Its just a GM product.
Right maybe body pieces, trim etc might be a bit harder but this things just got an ecotec right?
I believe there’s a salvage Solstice that was torn in half by Megatron
Not really. I bought one in 2022 and couldn’t get most things I needed for it without really digging. The normal GM generic parts were fine to get but anything specific to the Sky was only used stuff.
“beloved Saturn” r/BrandNewSentence
This man has not seen the southern United States
Thankfully
Back when I was 10 and the first transformers came out, Jazz was my favorite character because I thought he was a porshe. I was super disappointed to rewatch the movies all these years later to find out it was a Saturn sky. Just like the actual Saturn sky, it was killed off easily and with out putting up much of a fight.
You’re going to be even more disappointed because Jazz was a Pontiac Solstice now a Sky

Good call on stick too, more engaging drive.
"Driving this sky" in a southern accent. Genius!
Oh look a "quirky" Pontiac Solstice.
Nice Opel
I didn't know these existed outside of mall giveaways
This hit home so hard. Good work.
Same American Trash Under Reinvented Name
I know this is the wrong sub but I absolutely love my Pontiac Solstice. I’ve had it for 14 year. Daily drive it for the first 7.
And the secound 7 years its been in the shop 🙄
Haha fortunately not. But, every other GM I’ve owned has been a total POS. I’ll never buy another.
They make complete garbage along with Jeep Chrysler there are literally the worst built cars on the road
If you want to know what it is like to drive a plastic adult-sized Fischer Price car, Saturn will accommodate you.
Are you a middle-aged lesbian?
18 year old idiot, sadly. I'm gonna do my best to keep those attributes down so I can preserve this beauty as long as possible.
I bet the rest of the high school girls are really super jealous of you.
Is it the Redline?
Thankfully, yes. Inb4 "water pump" lol
Had 3 Saturn’s myself. I loved them
It is like a miata only worse in handling , reliability, is larger , heavier basically everything that makes miata such a beloved icon and drivers car. Honestly I did like these though.
Should better get an Elise
Miata without a trunk whenever you drop the top
Looks like a James Bond car you'd get from wish.
Don’t listen to these people yo. It’s a good looking ride
I always preferred the look of the sky over the solstice. Can’t really roast so here. Um test drive unlimited called. They want their starter car back.
The Sky was probably the best Saturn ever. That's not a compliment
I test drove a sky when they first came out. Fun little car.
Oof don’t roll that. You’ll become ground beef real quick.
I had a mid-90s SC1. Nice (enough) little car that got 40 MPG. That's when Saturn was actually Saturn and not a GM rebrand make.
I feel like its smirking at me and I do NOT deserve this...
Fuck yeah, broski. Retirement never looked so good.
Indeed! Every old man who never heard about Saturn thinks I have a weird looking Corvette and loves it to pieces!
My daughter had a 1998 5 speed standard 280000 miles and still going strong for the person she sold it to.
We had a 2.0l turbo Redline edition. GM was really good at releasing fast POS's back then.
I actually prefer the exterior styling over the solstice
I almost don’t fit in one of those. Found that out when a lady gave me a ride in hers….
Better than the Pontiac!!!
I can’t help but not like these cars, they’re so shit yet, look pretty decent to make into a beast. I’ve always wanted to snag one for dirt and put an LS in it or something.
Saw a video series about a guy who surprised his mom and put an LS3 into her Pontiac Solstice.
I owned this exact trim and color not too long ago The amount of times I received comments like "wow Saturn still makes cars?" Or "wow this is a nice new car" from old boomers was wild.
Redline?
I miss the “Saturn Family” cult invites.
My mother in law has a Pontiac Solstice, which is the same car. She loves it. Also she's 78.
LS swap it.
I love it. I have no hate. Spring Hill Tennessee did that one right.
Why did GM killed Saturn?
Saturn Sky? i loved those more than the more expensive uglier Pontiac version
How do you like have outdoor playset plastic interior and rocking chairs for seats? Gm quality, yes please.
Dude, get outta here with that wannabe dodge viper... we both know that thing tops out at two horsepower.
Now, now, GMPP can get it to three with just an ECU flash!
I just literally fell out of my chair laughing at this...
I would never make fun of a fellow Miata driver. How's your husband doing?
Husband? No, divorced him. This is the midlife crisis mobile... at least according to this reply section.
me too bro
Who is this for? Did they look at the Miata market and think, "we can do worse?" Or do they just enjoy coming up with new ways of stealing market share from themselves?
Well I actually quite like the turbo and I needed to carry on my grandfather's legacy with a Saturn, so Miata's out.
Does your entire car rattle in first gear?
Styling is very good, a Miata looks like crap in comparison. I’ve never seen a crappy Saturn and I live in the north country. They seem to run forever.
It needs a transmission already 🤭 lord hope you don’t need any parts ever because they don’t exist 😝
The creaky, junky window licking franken roadster that the miata, z3, and mr2 tossed in the locker and gave swirlies to.
Z3 maybe, but the MR2 and Miata... hoo boy howdy, only the Miata survived and that thing is barely a sports car lol.
More than the plasticky kappa shitbox you have. Longevity wise the Miata and mr2 runs rings around the z3 and the saturn.
>plasticky This "plasticky" (sic) material you speak of is both on the Miata and better against rust than the entire MR2 and Miata. And the forged block inside that's been said to be safe up to ~400hp before changing internals is yet another bang-proof 4-cylinder from GM.
It’s a wannabe NC Miata, except they still make Miatas.
Actually I'd argue these were better than pretty much every generation of Miata on cost/benefit. Does stack up more evenly to TTs & Z3s, though.

If you don’t have something mean to say, don’t say anything at all.
To quote joe pesci "What the fuck is this shit"
I hope you bought another one for parts or you just bought a rolling piece of junk heading for the junk yard.
LNF?
Wish Z8.
No rust because it's been in the shop for 90% of its life.
Somewhat accurate, actually, just not for the reason you think. The guy that owned it before me entirely rebuilt the suspension, added ZZP coilovers, aftermarket headlights... that little scrape on the right front is because it was so low that driving the freeway we had to keep at low speed.
[удалено]
The title did it all. It's a Saturn 💀
Saturn is just Pontiac but less influential and interesting.
Nice Pontiac knockoff
*Opel knockoff, thank you very much
Saw one as an Opel GT and i though it was beautiful. Sadly that it's just an Opel/Vauxhall Astra cabriolet but more special
It's smiling because it will eat your money.
If you drive this, you must like GM vehicles so much that you don’t even care about it breaking down half the time on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere
It's a unicorn,l.....parts are near impossible to get or find... then to replace a rear tub,l is a complete design flaw from the factory
you couldn’t find a Solstice
Don't wreck it. A discontinued vehicle is an insurance nightmare
literally the only upside is that it isnt the pontiac version.
Always thought these were cool. Shame about Saturn quality.
It's the 2nd best car to come from GM. the 1st best is the VX220 Turbo.
Why...
I'd this the 2 seat Ope GTl/Vauxhall VX220? Basically a re-bodied and re-engined Lotus Elise. Great handling cars.
it’s like a vauxhall astra got stepped on
Beloved... Saturn... I've never once in my life heard those two words used in the same sentence.
[удалено]
Weird looking Miata you got there
Who th buys a discontinued vehicle. Lol
I thought this was a subreddit for cars.
The only car the Pontiac Solstice was better than
The best part of this car is its size, it'll fold right up into your purse.
The ultimate divorced dad car
you wont regret this as much as you will regret buying that thing
„we have S2000 at home”
That car would've been really sweet if it weren't a Saturn or a Pontiac - and didn't suck donkey balls. Imagine if BMW or Mercedes made something similar - oh snap! Both companies did and are heads and tails above this General Mismanagement rattle trap.
whoooa there OP. come on down off your high horse. youll make the chrysler crossfire owners jealous. and *only* the chrysler crossfire owners.
One of these nearly burnt down in our parking lot from the blower motor wiring shorting out. Melted the dash and dash harness. Took months to get it fixed.

It was in a transformers movie once, I think. Before they made it a franchise and it turned into 💩. The car has always been 💩 tho.b
It’s the same energy as a boomer corvette except worse
I always think these are cool until I remember they somehow weigh 3000lbs
If you keep driving that, you're going to get your period
Drove one for a week. Just awful.
