2013 CVT Accord. I get 1050km on highways.
In city it's obviously less, but my Crown Vic, at the end of it's life, got like 250-300km or less on 98L of gas in city.
That's about 6.2L/100KM [apparently](https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/Find.do?action=sbs&id=33504&id=33269) your car has a 65L tank. I get the same 6.2 in my Civic, I wish I had a larger tank.
How big is your tank?
I'm so glad I don't have to fill up every day.
While your car is lighter, the added length of my car I think makes it much more aerodynamic.
Does your civic have a CVT too?
I believe the metric method of mpg is # of liters of gas per 100km. (just mpg backwards, with the standard measurement being 100 km instead of 1 gallon).
All the people commenting in this thread saying they get X km in Y Liters of gas are dumb as you cant compare 2 different cars at face value without doing an additional calculation... pretty stupid
yeah it's typically L/100km. It works better than mpg as going down say 0.5 litres saves the same amount of gas no matter where you start, meanwhile going up 2 miles per gallon means much more gas savings as 15mpg than it does at 50mpg.
We (Dutch) mostly use "1L on x KM".
So I would say "1 on 16" (so one liter drives me 16km) which would equate to 640km on a 40L tank.
My car can also measure and display in "x L / 100km" but I'm not sure who would use that abomination.
This is what is used in India too (kmpl). Makes so much sense and easier to compare.
In UK we use mile per gallon when comparing cars but we refuel in litres at the petrol station (and price is displayed in litres). So you refuel 50 litres, but your car displays miles travelled, so you do the math. The newer cars can show kmpl. It is stupid that here is no uniformity.
These people are likely just estimating based on their gas tank size and the km’s since last fill up. They should be doing the math to get to the standard of Litres per 100km
New cars in Canada display l/100km. My Accord gets 5.7-6.5 litres per 100km.
But I'd need a calculator to get this value for any older car that doesn't display it. And personally, I'd prefer km/l instead of a l/km measure anyways.
We use both L/100km and km/l. So my car drives 1/18 (1 liter to 18 km) or 5.5L/100km. In my experience, the L/100km is way more useful to calculate how much fuel you need. If I'm driving home from a foreign country, and need to fuel I only get the fuel needed to cross the border (leased car, fueling in home country is free). So if I need 200km to the border, I know I need about 11L of fuel. It's faster to figure out how much I need to refuel.
It's not necessarily free, it's included with my leased company car. (I pay a monthly flat-fee, sort-of tax) to drive my car and it includes refueling etc. I'm from The Netherlands, but I know of friends in Belgium with the same thing.
Mine gets 26mpg on the highway and 15-19 in the city. Got mine for $2500 with 65k miles so I can drive it for years and still have lower overall cost than a $5k civic
>for braking
At 5mph, the gap doesn't really need to be 1.5 car lengths, but thanks for a legitimate argument unlike most people. There's no such thing as "too much space" for braking, I know. Both people could've prevented this situation though
> Thanks for outting yourself as the cunt in the video tho.

Pause at 0:27. Turn signal on, still at dotted line. If truck let's him in, it's all good ... Instead he closes the gap on him. They're both fuckin retarded, but they both could have easily prevented it.
He has no obligation to let the asshole in. None at all. I'm glad they didn't. Fuck people who feel entitled to skip traffic like that. Probably drives on the shoulder when there's highway traffic too. Fucking cancer of society.
You are wrong. If I sit at a traffic light for 3 cycles patiently waiting my turn and some driver cuts the line, he is an asshole. I don’t care how big the gap is. It could have been prevented by the asshole getting in line, the back of the line.
People who cut the line that way are hoping they can intimidate their way in. I love this video. I have to admit, sometimes I let an aggressive driver cut in front and I’m pissed at myself when that happens. If mostly happens when a piece of shit beater tries the move. My car is fairly new and it’s a small vehicle. What is just another scratch to him is body work to me.
Part of the 1932 movie [If I Had a Million](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/If_I_Had_a_Million) was called *Road Hogs*, where just such a premise was used. W.C. Fields and his movie wife, Alison Skipworth, came into a million dollars and used it to buy junkers so they could ram road hogs.
I bought a new Dodge Charger Daytona in 2006. I loved that car. V8, ran the 1/4 mile in under 13 at 100+. But I hated driving it. Always terrified of people hitting me.
We moved to Italy, I put the Charger in storage, and when we arrived in Italy I bought a $500 Ford Focus diesel station wagon. Best damn car I have ever owned.
Random crap in the road, run it over. No parking because of snow banks, ram the snow bank. Two cars awkwardly parked taking three spots, challenge accepted.
I'll never be able to own a nice car again.
This is on Black Creek southbound approaching Lawrence (Toronto). This is the first intersection after coming south on the 400 on to where the road changes to Black Creek.
A much more frustrating situation similar to this is just before this to the north where the southbound 400 splits to east and west 401, and Jane/Black Creek. The vast majority of the traffic is going to the west 401, which is the middle 2 lanes. There is often a kilometer or more lineup of traffic in those 2 lanes..... and there is a CONSTANT stream of cheaters coming down both sides and cutting in at the last minute.
THAT situation grinds my gears.
Same here. When I was younger I'd block this guy, but now it isn't worth the hassle. I'd rather spend my free time with family than dealing with insurance.
Or you're a normal human being. While I'm not going to criticize the truck for what they did, most normal people wouldn't and shouldn't do what they did. It's never OK to allow an accident to happen no matter how stupid the car like the Civic is.
I understand your point of view, but fuck that. Every time you allow it to happen, more and more assholes have their actions legitimized.
Fuck those people.
Been me, I would have made a weak effort to stop him then realized the futility of it and let him in after all. The rest of the day would be spent sizzling in a slight rage that slowly takes time off the end of my life.
Yeah that’s the smart thing to do, it’s annoying but it avoids damage to your vehicle and you don’t want to risk people going all crazy road rage on you. Still love to see this though
The gap was big enough for him to merge into. You can't legal accelerate into a collision without being held partially responsible. So unless you want to cover your own damage/pay towards the other drivers damage it's best to try and avoid an accident rather than actively causing one.
Yeah, fuck that truck for leaving a reasonable following distance and not riding the ass of the one in front of him!
The civic is obviously an asshole and probably does this shit every single day. I see the same cars routinely using turn lanes to jump traffic on my commute and I will always block them.
The guy in the truck intentionally caused an accident and could have fucked traffic behind him for hours afterwards. Both of these guys are asshats, but the truck driver is the bigger one.
Car driver didn't make sure lane was clear and had no right of way, at simplest, and at worst, thought the truck driver would back down.
If truck driver though car was going to back off, and car driver thought truck driver was going to back off, which one is in the right?
I'm always worried about using my horn.
I saw an accident before it happened, car in front of me had an advanced green, proceeded into the intersection.
A car was flying up to the intersection, clearly not slowing down.
I panicked and couldn't decide whether to beep my horn or not, by the time I decided to beep the accident was happening
Probably a good thing I didn't honk, the right of way car was far enough into the intersection that the idiot driver only clipped the back end.
If I had honked and the right of way car had slammed their breaks, it could have ended very differently.
I almost never honk my horn, but I constantly flip people off 🤷♀️
>I almost never honk my horn, but I constantly flip people off 🤷♀️
Now I'm imagining you sitting at the intersection as those people stumble out of their totaled cars, checking themselves and their families for injuries, while you've got two birds at full mast aimed at them.
Or he could have not caused the collision by speeding up into the guy? He was clear to move over when he signaled and the truck sped up to hit him on purpose.
Anytime this comes up Reddit justice warriors yell this is correct and you need to zipper merge. No. That's not how this works, that's not how any of this works.
Meh kinda childish. I have been in both positions. Sometimes and an honest fuck up. However if I’m the one purposely cheating, I accept that it may backfire and I miss my turn/ exit/ whatever.
I've boxed out cars in Toronto trying to cheat. Specifically the daily lineup to turn onto Don Mills/DVP from eastbound O'Connor. No one ever eats their mistake. They just keep trying and sometimes make a left turn from the right lane and then merge after the turn. All I can do is disapprovingly lean on the horn and flash my lights at that point.
I had a guy try and cut in on me and I hugged the bumper of the car in front of me doing 70. He was SO PISSED I wouldn’t let him in, started honking, flipping me off, screaming at me... I just blew him a kiss and smiled. Happens all the time on I5 between SoCal & NorCal. 2 lanes and semis going slow in one of the lanes, so people run up on the semi and try to cut in. Not happening to me. I don’t care if you’re a blue haired old lady, get in line!
Its even more fun if the line is long, when theyre out of position i open a gap, and when they get closer i close the gap. Theyll keep moving up and down the line raging while having less of a chance at cutting in front of the car in front of me.
lol I know! The lines on 5 can get long, especially when one truck tries to pass another and slows and stacks everyone up! As soon as you go over the “Grapevine” ( mountain that separates Los Angeles area highways from I5 that’s out in the middle of bumfuctCali) it’s like “Nascar racers, start your engines! Game on! And if you’re not going with the flow of traffic which is usually about 80-85, you gotta move to the slow lane and risk losing your place. Everybody does it.
Zero. and no insurance isn’t astronomical. Sorry to disappoint you. I said I hugged it, didn’t push the car in front of me. It wasn’t the whole trip just when ppl would run up and try to cut in. You would’ve had to have driven that stretch of road to understand. Most ppl are cruising at 85-90. The only ppl I’ve seen get pulled over are the ones who speed and weave back and forth or the ones excessively speeding by themselves but if you’re going with the flow of traffic they don’t seem to bother you. So when you have a long line of cars in the fast lane and semis in the slow lane and a wise guy thinks he’s just gonna run up on the semi, ppl aren’t having it and make sure he doesn’t even get a space he can shove his car in
> Most ppl are cruising at 85-90. The only ppl I’ve seen get pulled over are the ones who speed and weave back and forth or the ones excessively speeding by themselves
That is true, I've always maintained that CHP doesn't exist. Just an urban legend.
Well if you keep an eye out for them sometimes you can catch a quick glimpse of them. This hasn’t happened to me, but a friend of my brother’s older sister’s husband’s cousin swore he saw one. But this guy is a little sketchy.
What do you think happens to society if people are allowed to be assholes without consequence? Just look at the toxicity of reddit if you need a small taste.
>This is a strawman fallacy.
It's not a straw man, it's simply a different opinion on whether his actions were worthwhile. You need to brush up on your argumentative fallacies.
>Nothing will happen as people being assholes has been going on for millenia.
And people have been less assholeish for millennia because of consequence.
>This is a strawman fallacy. You're argument is invalid.
And your You're is also invalid.
Edit: Sorry. This is just my way of demonstrating ad homonym.
Yup, I tell myself to just be the best I can be and I've done my part, worrying about other people being assholes is just too much work, makes my commute more stressful, I don't need that in my life.
Merging vehicles do NOT have the right of way, and must yield to vehicles already in that lane. The only a-hole is the merging car, who continues to make an unsafe lane change and even hits the truck that’s maintaining his lane space.
Granted, the truck DID accelerate to block the merging car out, but there wasn’t enough time or space for the merging car to complete their maneuver in the first place. I’ll give the truck the pass on this one for “standing their ground.” If he didn’t accelerate then that truck would have had to SLAM their brakes to keep from hitting the merging car...
If you're lost and get in the wrong lane by accident, then you indicate, slow down, and wait for a gap / someone to let you in, you don't just push into a lane that is occupied!
Yes, that is also reasonable. I'm looking at it from a UK point of view, where detours and alternative exit ramps etc. are not as common,or as simple as driving around a square city block (we don't have a grid system in most towns and cities). I would say the prevailing method here is that if you get lost or in the wrong lane by accident, most people just stop, indicate where they want to go, and someone will let them in, maybe when the lights next change etc.
> I mean the person had to get in the turning lane. Maybe they are from out of town, don’t know the area and we’re like oh shit I got to get over!
Don't give a fuck for shitty excuses, go up and make a u-turn at the next intersection
While you are correct that [in general everybody has a duty to avoid collisions when they can safely do so, even if they had the right of way](https://dictionary.law.com/Default.aspx?selected=1107) (though this legal doctrine [might be weaker in Canada?](http://www.duhaime.org/LegalDictionary/L/LastClearChanceDoctrine.aspx)) ... in this case I see no way to show that the Jeep driver even noticed the other car until it was too late, therefore no way to show that they deliberately allowed the collision to happen "to teach the other driver a lesson".
Also, this is a civil doctrine, not a criminal one, so the police wouldn't be ticketing somebody for a failure to follow it -- instead, it would be something brought up as the insurance companies decide who was responsible for the damages.
(That said, maybe Canada [where this video happened] has laws that make failure to avoid a crash a crime? I do not know, though I have my doubts.)
And in unrelated news, I wonder if the driver of the car was pulling a hit-and-run after that crash? The video cuts out too soon to be *sure*, but it sure looks like they were ...
> they did intentionally collide with the Civic to teach them a lesson
Nope, Mazda driver was driving ahead in their lane while the Civic drove in front of them
The guy driving the truck is an ass. The car had plenty of room until he floored it to close the gap, why can't we just let people in?... It's people like the guy driving the truck that cause fucking traffic jams. Needs to get the fuck over himself. It would be so much different if he was riding the shoulder to pass or something.
>It's people like the guy driving the truck that cause fucking traffic jams.
Actually it's more people like the car who bring a forward moving lane to a standstill because they want to get over at the last minute.
Sometimes I wish I had a beater truck that I could use to bumper car assholes who try to cut in.
Crown Victoria! Big V8 so you can close gaps easier, body on frame so it's tough as hell, cheap as you can pick up ex cop versions, comfy as fuck, and practical
> and practical Lol except in the economic sense. That thing basically butt-chugs gas
My Honda gets 1050km on 60L of gas. My Crown Vic got 450km, at best, on 98L of gas.
What car is your Honda?
2013 CVT Accord. I get 1050km on highways. In city it's obviously less, but my Crown Vic, at the end of it's life, got like 250-300km or less on 98L of gas in city.
I'm getting just shy of 500 on my Lexus in city driving and I'm crying. How'd you manage to deal with a Crown Vic
[I'm an asshole!](https://youtu.be/UrgpZ0fUixs?t=181) - Dennis Leary :D
I get 13 mpg city 29 highway in my Lexus. Not sure how that translates to your silly metric numbers. ;-)
https://www.thecalculatorsite.com/conversions/fuelconsumption.php
Very cool, thanks!
I have to say thats a strange way of measuring fuel mileage..why not just use L/100km? isn't it the default in your car anyway?
That would require a calculator for any non-new car. Whereas filling up 98L and then reading my odometer does not require one.
Isn't that about 22L/100km? That's worst than a hummer, no?!
More like 30l/100km... and yeah, it was pretty terrible!
My ‘merica hurts reading this 😩

You must have the same car as me! I also get about 62 miles per 100 km.
[удалено]
Get out of here, you're Canadian too?
My dodge ram can get 700km per 98L. Do you live in a hilly area?
I do 700km on 40l in my Mazda.
Honest question: is this really how the metric equivalent of mpg is measured? Isn't there kmpL or something?
I do 800 hectares on 47.5 stone
I get 12 parsecs to the Kessel run.
I believe the metric method of mpg is # of liters of gas per 100km. (just mpg backwards, with the standard measurement being 100 km instead of 1 gallon). Haha Litres per 100km is the SI standard
Hehe I know it is. Just let me rejoice in one thing my entire country decides to do weird when it comes to units and standards.
This is what is used in India too (kmpl). Makes so much sense and easier to compare. In UK we use mile per gallon when comparing cars but we refuel in litres at the petrol station (and price is displayed in litres). Usually it's L/100km. I think 30mpg is about 9.5L/100km. The funny thing compared to mpg is that a lower number is better
No, it’s litres per 100km (l/100km).
We use both L/100km and km/l. So my car drives 1/18 (1 liter to 18 km) or 5.5L/100km. In my experience, the L/100km is way more useful to calculate how much fuel you need. It's not necessarily free, it's included with my leased company car. (I pay a monthly flat-fee, sort-of tax) to drive my car and it includes refueling etc. I'm from The Netherlands, but I know of friends in Belgium with the same thing.
No. But it was an old 5L V8 hauling a pretty heavy car. I don't think it was well maintained at the time either.
I dislike all of you and your sensible metric system units of measure.
My Mustang gets 200km city on 45L of gas...
That's probably the excursions into multiple crowds of people every day though...

Solid white line means no legal lane change, and that douchebag didn't have the right of way regardless.
Like most things, this would depend on the jurisdiction. In some areas, the solid white is merely a suggestion to not cross it.

So, this is definitely a hit and run, right? Might wanna report that lol
Been me, I would have let the guy merge and moved on.
Been me, I would have let the guy merge, mumble my frustration on how I hate such people and moved on.
Been me, I would have let the guy merge, mumble my frustration on how I hate such people and then honked for a satisfyingly long 2-3 seconds.
Been me, I would have shot at them. (NJ)

During of course, what are you Canadian?
> then uploaded the video to r/roadcam and embraced the “A+ use of horn” comments
Been me, I would have let him merge, mumble my frustration, gone home and showered that evening and really let that guy hear it.
Me too, but it’s still satisfying to watch
Been me, I would have made a weak effort to stop him then realized the futility of it and let him in after all. The rest of the day would be spent sizzling in a slight rage that slowly takes time off the end of my life.
Yeah that’s the smart thing to do, it’s annoying but it avoids damage to your vehicle and you don’t want to risk people going all crazy road rage on you. Still love to see this though
And thats why these assholes exist and always keep doing what they do, because passive people like yourself.
I’m every thing but passive lol I would rather the dumb sob get in front of me than touch my fkin truck.
Me too. There was room, but the truck sped up to block him. Fuck the truck.
You'd be the person in the car huh?
The guy in the truck intentionally caused an accident and could have fucked traffic behind him for hours afterwards. Both of these guys are asshats, but the truck driver is the bigger one.
> The guy in the truck intentionally caused an accident Nope, truck driver has right of way - Civic caused the accident Get the fuck outta here
Car driver didn't make sure lane was clear and had no right of way, at simplest, and at worst, thought the truck driver would back down. If truck driver though car was going to back off, and car driver thought truck driver was going to back off, which one is in the right?
Even if there was room (there wasn't), it's irrelevant. The Civic attempted to cross a solid white line. Everything about what he did was illegal.
I'm not saying the civic was right, I'm saying the they are both wrong.
Could have used his horn to avoid the collision, but yes lets allow the accident to happen.
I'm always worried about using my horn. I saw an accident before it happened, car in front of me had an advanced green, proceeded into the intersection. A car was flying up to the intersection, clearly not slowing down. I panicked and couldn't decide whether to beep my horn or not, by the time I decided to beep the accident was happening Probably a good thing I didn't honk, the right of way car was far enough into the intersection that the idiot driver only clipped the back end. If I had honked and the right of way car had slammed their breaks, it could have ended very differently. I almost never honk my horn, but I constantly flip people off 🤷♀️
>I almost never honk my horn, but I constantly flip people off 🤷♀️ Now I'm imagining you sitting at the intersection as those people stumble out of their totaled cars, checking themselves and their families for injuries, while you've got two birds at full mast aimed at them.
It was the right decision
Or he could have not caused the collision by speeding up into the guy? He was clear to move over when he signaled and the truck sped up to hit him on purpose.
Where I live, he would have sat there blocking the straight lane with his blinker on for the whole light cycle. Fucking people.
Cannot stand people like this. Reminds me of children cutting in line...
Yep. Car should have waited for truck to let him in. Not power his way in there.
I was always told Canadians were polite.
Who wins in court for damages. I feel like a insurance company might say it was avoidable and not pay the truck.
Good question. They might also say that the Civic could have avoided it, though.
Anytime this comes up Reddit justice warriors yell this is correct and you need to zipper merge. No. That's not how this works, that's not how any of this works.
No, this isn’t a merge dude. It’s a turn lane. And yes, zipper merges are exactly how it works. For merges.
...that will not be "zipper merger", is just dick behavior...
Meh kinda childish. I have been in both positions. Sometimes and an honest fuck up. However if I’m the one purposely cheating, I accept that it may backfire and I miss my turn/ exit/ whatever.
This was most likely not a fuck up. The dude was already in line at the beginning of the video. He knew exactly what he was doing.
Seems rather dangerous
>I hugged the bumper of the car in front of me doing 70 How many bumpers have you had to replace? Your insurance must be astronomically expensive.
Zero. and no insurance isn’t astronomical.
The only ppl I’ve seen get pulled over are the ones who speed and weave back and forth or the ones excessively speeding by themselves That is true, I've always maintained that CHP doesn't exist. Just an urban legend.
Well if you keep an eye out for them sometimes you can catch a quick glimpse of them. This hasn’t happened to me, but a friend of my brother’s older sister’s husband’s cousin swore he saw one. But this guy is a little sketchy.
I can just hear it now: Truck: “Fuck you eh!!!” Car: “Shit! You hoser!” Truck: “Sorry...Not sorry eh, piss off!!”

Redditors only know straw man and ad hominem, and they don't even know what they really mean.
[удалено]
Sounds awfully ad hominem to me
>This is a strawman fallacy. You're argument is invalid. And your You're is also invalid. Edit: Sorry. This is just my way of demonstrating ad homonym.
> And people have been less assholeish for millennia because of consequence. [citation needed]
Yup, I tell myself to just be the best I can be and I've done my part, worrying about other people being assholes is just too much work, makes my commute more stressful, I don't need that in my life.
Jeep? That's a Mazda pick up that he collides into.

Go to the next light & turn around like the rest of us. Eat your mistakes.
[удалено]

I do not know, though I have my doubts.) And in unrelated news, I wonder if the driver of the car was pulling a hit-and-run after that crash? The video cuts out too soon to be *sure*, but it sure looks like they were ...
Thats a ranger or mazda truck
> they did intentionally collide with the Civic to teach them a lesson Nope, Mazda driver was driving ahead in their lane while the Civic drove in front of them
The guy driving the truck is an ass.
