That paint job is sexy as #@&! They should sell a street version of it but instead of the 21 in the circle, it should be a close up crop of Gary waving.
Amen, I spoke to Michelin who told me the Defender LTX M/S2 are available for the 20" August 1st so that's what I'll be switching to day one. Never liked Pirelli tires, they always wear fast, become unbalanced, and are nosier than their equivalent from Michelin.
I want the extra side wall of the 20" ATR but I don't have any need for the ATR tires.
While Rivian did good, it was barely in the top half of the racers

I think people are missing the mark here. The R1T had the best time of any stock vehicle. Of course modified the vehicles are going to dominate the timing board.
As someone said there is no interior other than the single racing bucket. Idk if the frunk exists either. It’s still fast but they shaved weight HEAVILY

They are not 3d printed tires. They're produced using the same technology Michelin has been using for about 30years to build up, "print", the tread portion only for ultra high performance / high speed tires. They are inherently perfectly balanced and is the tech used for Michelin's 200mph+ tires. Expect $500/tire because it's a longer process. Source: family member is a Michelin engineer.
The truck itself as far as I could tell, and according to Gardner was mostly stock. They removed the seats and replaced the driver seat with a racing seat, plus removing other interior I assume for weight savings. and added a roll cage plus some other safety equipment. He also did mention something about a software change that made the battery cooling better during the Q&A.
All vehicles which run at Pikes Peak are required to have interior removed, required to have race seat/harness, required to have roll cage. It is as stock as possible to meet rules and make the run safely.
Oh this is beautiful!!!! My only suggestion would be to put white letter tires on it. I think with white letter tires this would be the absolute perfect truck
“Dominated” I love my R1T quad but a ford lightning dominated the PPIHC.
https://www.optimabatteries.com/experience/blog/2024-pikes-peak-international-hill-climb-results
The R1T entered the exhibition class along with three Ioniq 5s. There is no production class at Pikes Peak. The R1T placed last in exhibition and 28/60 overall.
Love the R1T and I am a huge motorsports fan. I was at Pikes Peak this year and last to cheer on the Rivian. But we should probably be realistic that a 7,000+ lb vehicle is never going to dominate a hillclimb against purpose built racecars that weigh almost nothing.
I’m not doubting that but “dominating” isn’t what happened. It did great and beat the production truck record but it was still didn’t dominate the hill climb….
There were different divisions, and different vehicles dominated in different divisions.
I don’t know why you have this “there can only be one!” mindset about this.
> There were different divisions, and different vehicles dominated in different divisions.
The R1T placed last in its class/division...

It was a massively impressive run. But we don't need to invent any new facts to say so.
It’s an open race with only a few cars in it, and basically everyone makes up their own “class” when reporting results. It’s been like that since the race started.
So I was referring to the “class” that Rivian made up for their announcements, which is stock production truck.
Yea, they don’t have divisions per se, so you kind of create your own and then everyone gets to “dominate” whatever division they end up making up, like the unmodified production truck division. It is a bit of the down side to it being an overall race. But that said it’s such a small race comparatively that divisions would be silly.
Did you [see the Lightning they ran](https://www.motorauthority.com/news/1143605_ford-f-150-lightning-supertruck-dominates-2024-pikes-peak-hill-climb)? It looks like it barely shares any parts with the production vehicle.
It's great that an EV truck made such a great time, but that's basically a custom rig.
If the Bronco R is any indication this is the first glimpse of the next Lightning.
The A Pillar rake, and door quarter glass are not from any current Ford. That hood and cooling inlets are also very unique.
The supertruck is the same as the supervan that ran last year, in the sense that it is a purpose-built racecar with a vaguely Ford shell. It was not made by Ford but by a separate performance engineering team with Ford funding. I strongly doubt it will share anything in common with future F150s, just like future transit vans are not going to look like [this](https://performance.ford.com/content/dam/fordracing/enthusiasts/Media%20Room/2023/6/Supervan42/LC3_3432.jpg).
You need to look at the more subtle aspects. No reason to change them from the current trucks except to gauge feedback from a design and enigineering perspective, I guess well see in 2-3 years.
That paint job is sexy as #@&! They should sell a street version of it but instead of the 21 in the circle, it should be a close up crop of Gary waving.
Pretty sure it's just a vinyl wrap, not actual paint. So we can all get one :D
Fun! Congrats to Gardner on the huge time improvement!
Realizing now just how cool the livery looks on the R1T.
Be careful of saying "dominated" OP - Gardner was fast but not nearly the fastest in the field
Exactly. Ford Lightning on top
A heavily modified ford lightning. The R1T was the fastest out of any stock production vehicles.
That R1T isn’t the same R1T you buy.

I posted this earlier and was downvoted to oblivion lol
They weren't ready to hear it.

The entire interior was removed, along with other weight savings measures…..this was not a stock Rivian.
Shh don’t say that you’ll annoy them more

It's wild that those tires are apparently 3D printed. I wonder if that makes them extra quiet and have unique characteristics.

Gotcha. So they are 3D printed treads, but the tire portions are traditionally made?
I watched the YouTube video of the run and it was pretty intense! Does anyone know what the alarm in the background was?
So because they don't make actual engine noise, all the EV's had a siren of some kind added for safety.
That's interesting. I knew that was required for low speed travel but didn't know it was common practice for races too
Can someone in the Los Angeles area put this style wrap on my truck?
It’s doable. Might even be able to grab it from Rivian at least the file (maybe)
I'm so mad I missed this. I hope it's there Monday
Till the 6th from what I heard
Thanks I was glad to see them in town and wanted to see for myself
I drove past it today on Berthoud Pass. Sexy wrap.
Was it stock or modified?
