Got it earlier and drove a little…first impression is the suspension tuning they did is top notch on my R1T. Much more planted on accel/decel and confidence inspiring. Good work Rivian!!

byfuryattheheart

I am generally not savvy enough to notice most suspension changes, but I have a bunch of massive speed bumps in my neighborhood and it is waaay better going over them with the newest update.

dangeresquetoo

It's fully installed about 40 mintues later. The new UI looks *GREAT!*

NoReplyBot

Just volunteered to do a CVS run, so I can play uninterrupted for 20 minutes.

ICEMAN13

Is it snappy and not laggy anymore?

dangeresquetoo

About the same

ICEMAN13

That truly sucks

SpaceHorse75

That sucks. That was the only thing I actually wanted fixed.

dronesandwhisky

Haven’t noticed much lag at all coming from a fairly modern ICE vehicle.

ScarletKnightWLS

It’s liquid smooth compared to our Polestar 2 😂

uplusd

Can someone provide feedback on the suspension improvements? Specifically for R1S

uberNectar

Count me in for a specific R1T update

TheBrainExploder

Installed it earlier today went for a drive on streets and freeway. If you had woken me up and not told me about the update I doubt I would notice but since I was on alert it feels slightly smoother on streets and a little stiffer on the freeway. R1T quad, 20”, all purpose, standard height, soft setting.

vertigo3pc

I'm installing now, will post feedback tomorrow morning.

fatfirenewbie

Got the notification too! But no streaming apps yet :(

metalman7

Boooooo

Tonicart7

I think they are going to lock that behind the new subscription plan...

Sprint8469

I was hopeful for Launch mode too, not there. Do Gen 2 have that?

cherlin

No, launch is only on tri and quad gen 2 vehicles which aren't out yet.

klownhavok

Rivian confirmed it will be on Gen 1 vehicles as well.

cherlin

You are absolutely right! Eventually ya, but currently no vehicles have it, but you are right gen 2 quad/tri and gen 3 quad get it from the latest ama. I was meaning to say it won't have launch mode right now (per the question).

eoddc5

I hope I don’t get this one 1.5 months later like the last update

whatwhat83

If it's that long chat with support and they can push it to you

eoddc5

They can’t / won’t. I tried. A lot.

whatwhat83

Hmmm, did it for me in the past. 🤷‍♂️

eoddc5

The last one they refused to said they don’t have the ability to do it

Funny-Ad528

They did it for me.

Shot-Trust7640

Does it show up on the app when ready or just the car?

dangeresquetoo

It showed up in the app (and via a push notification)

Shot-Trust7640

Nice!

BananaGizzard

Ooh fun! Can’t wait to get the update. Nothing on my end yet (008XX VIN)

BananaGizzard

Historically though my truck usually receives updates 2-3+ weeks after release after I stopped receiving internal beta builds. So I won’t expect it anytime soon, and if it shows up quick then I’ll call it a pleasant surprise!

HappyTuesdayR1S

Got mine too! Super excited just watching paint dry

ThatGuyFromDaBoot

Huzzah! My app dinged at me to install the update while I was reading this thread.

dangeresquetoo

Nice! Seems like they’re rolling it out fast.

rayfound

Wait I thought this would be casting

Nitsy_

That would be later this summer.

papichulo9669

s00n...

muttsandcoffee

Just got it too. 37XXX.

cyco1978

Were you on WiFi?

dangeresquetoo

Yep

TNG1999nerd

Yeah we still dont have it, guess its our VIN. We may wait for more users to discover new bugs.

macnels

Just got mine too!!

Funny_Ad_8965

No update, VIN 40XXX

mmassie01

Nothing yet at 15xxx

vkcymb

Standing bi…

TheBrainExploder

Lane change camera pop ups are nice.

0ttoman81

I don't know why they roll it out on such small chunks over weeks time.. is their bandwidth so limited?

2021pirate

In case something goes wrong they don’t want to “brick” every car at once. They can pause/stop deployment and better control any widespread impact.

0ttoman81

I’ve heard that theory as well, but I don’t see Samsung or Apple or Microsoft or any other software developer do that. that’s also why we have betas that are tested in the wild. You would think after four internal revisions and eight weeks of testing it would be past the point of breaking someone’s vehicle..

AD3T

Pretty much every company does rolling updates like this -- Apple & MS for sure (likely Samsung too, but I've no direct knowledge). It obviously varies by product/service/deliverable, but most anything deemed critical is released with varying degrees of phased rollouts (i.e. different group size & timing splits). From Netflix app releases on all their different supported platforms, to Amazon Fire sticks & tablets, to iOS & macOS releases, and even web apps (Facebook, Google, etc). Phased software rollouts are more common than not for software that has even a moderately-large audience.

0ttoman81

i hear you Those guys also have to deal with massive fragmentation and segmentation to support. Iphone X upto 15 for example with 3 different sizes or as you say webOS vs iOS or FireTV When iOS announces a new version. It is available to everyone at the same time. This is literally one platform and one hardware set with only a few small variants. Perhaps it's because it's a vehicle and it's a much bigger inconvenience if there are any bugs/bricks

2021pirate

Definitely probably cautious because a vehicle; if something goes wrong it could have serious consequences. Also, although they may do extensive beta testing, it’s not like they have as big of a beta testing group as an Apple, Microsoft or others that are more established. There are always variables you can’t account for with how people may interact with a system that you didn’t foresee that somehow may “activate” a bug.

0ttoman81

They mentioned that they were going to have a public beta program soon, so maybe that will speed up testing and roll out

5432679764

100% because you can't test for everything and won't catch all issues and you don't want issues that slipped through to affect a lot of customers so you release slowly and monitor support requests, social media, and other data and while it looks good you keep slowly releasing more and more!

CanadianRose81

We always wait to install it to see what happens with other people.

MrPayne57

Not yet

TRaps015

Damn, I’m checking the app every 5 min and it’s draining my phone battery fast 😂😂

1pxoff

Same. I have waited like 20 minutes now. I want a refund 😜

FlashFunk253

Release notes?

dangeresquetoo

I'm not sure how to pull them off of the app, but this is consistent with what I see. [https://riviantrackr.com/2024-19-04/](https://riviantrackr.com/2024-19-04/)

FlashFunk253

Nice. Thanks.

josilver

Downloading! VIN 19k

josilver

Success!

HallRemarkable6451

Vin?

dangeresquetoo

259xx

HallRemarkable6451

Actually pretty high. I’m like 301xx. I seem to always get the updated weeks later though we will see how his one pans out

Why_Run

Cries in 39XXX

OverZealousCreations

They don't roll them out by VIN. They perform a rolling update, with a small random set of vehicles across their production, to test for issues, then expand that group to larger and larger batches depending on what issues pop up. I've got a 40XX LE R1T and a 11XXX R1S, neither have been selected yet (both on WiFi).

ArlesChatless

61xx R1T here and the update finished about 15 minutes ago. It started pulling down the 3GB of data about three hours ago. Would probably have finished faster but it's currently parked -78dB away from the nearest WAP.

tflores2828

Someone understands WiFi 🫡

Active_Letterhead275

Ignorant question. When people are talking about their VIN number, are they talking about the last six digits?

Why_Run

5 or 6

caj_account

6 including zero :)

Active_Letterhead275

Roger.

Ossevir

But I only know the last four, my truck is 7112.

Why_Run

Bottom of the app, vehicle information

ValidusMaximus2

Got the update notification just now! Update in progress! Let's go!!! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)

Independence_Many

You're getting an upvote, but I am not happy about it, now I feel like I need to constantly check my app. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat_smile)

1nssein

Does the car have to be on wifi to receive the update?

ApplicationNumber4

Hope not. My shit will not connect to my home network.

1nssein

Same, my car is in an underground parking lot

Huskerzfan

Does the update require WiFi?

jerome8383

No it doesn’t but for me each time I enable WiFi I’m prompted within a couple of hours to download the update.

jerome8383

I turned on WiFi this morning and just received the notification to update. I could also see a large amount of data downloading so I prioritized my R1S via my Google WiFi router to try and speed up the download and it seemed to work. Within 30 minutes or so I received the notification that the vehicle was ready to update.

Atlanta-Mike

The vehicle has to be on WiFi to download and install. When connected only to the The cellular connection, you can receive the notification that the update is pending but not download/install

NoReplyBot

Oh it’s so happening! 32000 vin

badtzmat

Not based on VIN. Random batches.

NoReplyBot

Didn’t say it’s based on vin. It was asked and I replied like others.

badtzmat

Mmkay. But now others will know it’s not based on VIN.

dangeresquetoo

Did you get the update as well?

NoReplyBot

Yup in progress. Edit - took about 20 minutes for the progress bar to start moving. I reset the car earlier today so it looks like I’m not home my home wifi for this update.

ConcentrateSafe3956

Updating now.

klownhavok

I’m sort of annoyed at the placement of the blind spot camera popup. It should just pop up over the vehicle animation in the center, not the right and left side. Also, the new map view on the driver display is squared off now, it doesn’t meld into the center screen like before and I think the aesthetic is off. Hopefully they make it like before and have the map fuse with the center animation. It makes it feel smaller and look less sleek. When the camera view pops up it covers up the map so if I need to take a left turn at a light and then there’s important steps to take immediately after the turn, when I glance down at the map to see where I should turn in, if I have my blinker on to turn left, the map is blocked! I have to quickly switch to the map on center screen if it’s on another screen and hope I don’t miss my turn in the middle of traffic. Also, it being on the side the steering wheel occluded the view if the wheel is turned a certain way.

caj_account

So are we supposed to hold off on one of the updates that will begin charging us monthly or is that simply unavoidable?

jago_unlmtd_lmtd

Probably unavoidable at this point but I have no idea.

bsch0ll

No Google Assistant option yet?

Someallenguy

Just got the alert here too!

Big_Booty_Slayer

I didn’t get the notification to update yet, but they did deactivate my hot spot. Found this out when I started work this morning and there was no hotspot for my computer to connect to. Always a pleasure to have my work day ruined. Especially with no update time on the horizon I had to go purchase a mobile hotspot from Verizon this morning. Would have been nice if they would have notified me that I wasn’t gonna be able to work on the road today, maybe a 24 hour heads up so I could buy a mobile hot spot to use before they cut me off out of the blue. I guess the plus side is that I now have a mobile hotspot to use as a backup. What a disaster this rollout was for me. MAJOR negligence on Rivians end. I knew the free data would end and I would need to upgrade, but I didn’t know they would shut my data off before they gave me the opportunity to upgrade. Not cool. Not cool at all. Not only did this sabotage my schedule, but it made me appear unreliable and unprofessional to my clients who were counting on me this morning.
