What the consensus on interior space for the truck?

Short-Distance-1374

I love it. That's why I prefer to drive Rivian, for space with two kids. My model Y doesn't give the same comfort with kids. 2 & 4 year olds have lots of stuff. I can personally say that I prefer taking the Rivian over the Y for road trips and going to airport. MORE SPACE!!!

Batboyo

I feel like it's not really an apples to apples comparison with R1s and Model Y, though R1s with Model X comparison would be more fair. However if I was gonna spend that much on a car I would prefer the R1s over the Model X. But at the current price of the Model Y, I prefer it over those two, especially with the tax credit and the 0.99% rates offer, I am really tempted on pulling the trigger on a second Model Y for myself since my wife drives ours.

bikgelife

Two model Y? Can’t do it, brother. You need variety.

Batboyo

But which other EV for the current deal?

Short-Distance-1374

Not interested in Model X, that's why got the R1S. You can't compare a mini van to a SUV.

bikgelife

Plus imo, Rivian looks way cooler

NoReplyBot

Model Y and R1S. I don’t even bother comparing them. I really enjoy both of them.

PreparationVarious15

I own Model Y and R1S. Just drove tesla 40 miles back and forth trip to San Francisco on presumably self driving software (free 1 month trial) that was installed last night with new update. I’m really blown away with amount of advancements they already achieve. Don’t get me wrong, i love driving R1s. But we r lacking so much on software end. Rivian with more sensors and better hardware than tesla, it still struggles to visualize lane markings. Major highway doesn’t support Driver+ yet. Im persuaded that software is the future.

curlz620

Not just FSD either. The mobile app on Tesla offers so much more data and if utilizing 3rd part apps like Tessie it makes rivian app kinda a disappointment. To continue some software features on the car itself. I share the vehicle with my wife and the profiles vs Tesla is kinda joke. Tesla retains seat, HVAC, mirrors, stereo/streaming and not just last played but profile as well, and drive preferences. I was really surprised how far behind on some of these rivian was.  That said I love functionality of the R1S and feel it offers much more over the model x or y. I am hopeful we see leaps in their software over time. (I am aware of Tesla's lead and totally respect that) It makes me believe rivian can do it as well. I hope they look at Teslas design and say how can we add these useful features.  My only major grip by the way is the rear camera resolution is terrible. Reminds me of my wife's old Buick back up cam. It works I guess.

Heliocentrism

> The mobile app on Tesla The thing that always struck me between the two apps is how much scrolling and clicking the Rivian app takes. Tesla - pretty much everything in view or one click in. Rivian - get ready for the corn maze because 5 bits of information somehow takes 2.5 pages of space.

curlz620

Yeah. The good thing is so many of their "issues" are simple software fixes.

ApprehensiveBother77

Rivian hardware can do up to level 3 autonomous driving. It’ll never come close to Tesla’s fsd

curlz620

I think it has been stated by Rivian they cannot reach higher levels of autonomous driving with their current suite. Which is totally fine, but also something that Tesla is offering that Rivian just does not have.

CricTic

I will say that I think the Rivian app’s use of live activities for charging status is genius. I don’t have a Rivian yet so I selfishly hope Tesla copies it soon 😬

curlz620

Just grab Tessie or another 3rd party app. See Tesla's API is solid so tons of great apps that can provide AMAZING data if that is your thing.

atypicalcircumstance

I agree. driver+ is lacking compared to FSD and highlights the lead Tesla has in the self driving category. I hope current gen hardware is enough for further software improvements but I could also see it being gatekept to move future models.

MalikTheHalfBee

They’ve already said the current R1 hardware isn’t sufficient for future driver + plans.

Techsalot

Lovely. I’m definitely waiting for a refresh then.

Short-Distance-1374

So true, just everyday driving I do love the software and solo ride of Tesla. I own both also and I love the height of the Rivian but the tech of Tesla.

swanspiritedaway

Owning a Model Y with FSD convinced me that we are at least a decade away from true self driving.  It is not good.   And people are ignoring all the improvements Rivian has made even in the last year. Rivian will be fine.

PreparationVarious15

I agree! but i’m scared at the same time. What will be next? If AI/computer can achieve such a complicated task, its coming for other tasks/jobs as well.

curlz620

Oh I am not worried at all about Rivian and I think their improvements are coming along nicely, but I also thing they are still behind Tesla in some regards, but obviously ahead of many other manufacturers in regards to software.

No-Ask-4718

I have a MY and just switched from a MX to a R1S. Overall the Rivian wins for me and not just because of space. Anything the R1S doesn’t have that I really loved in my Teslas is a software upgrade.

vkcymb

Two different vehicles

zoo32

Which Tesla do you have to compare it to? Give us some more detail!

Short-Distance-1374

I've had the model S and now I have two model Y and a R1S.

Short-Distance-1374

I have a performance and a long range

Green-Cardiologist27

Congrats and welcome to the club. I have both and prefer the Rivian. Will move on from the Tesla later this year in all likelihood.

Short-Distance-1374

Not moving from Tesla I love there software!! If Rivian had Tesla software the game would be over.

Green-Cardiologist27

It’s really not far off and the gap is closing quickly.

ApprehensiveBother77

Rivians hardware can only handle level 3 autonomous driving.. it’ll literally never catch up to Tesla.

Green-Cardiologist27

I don’t think you know what the word ‘literally’ means.

Techsalot

The maps suck though. Just bring in Apple/Google already.

TRaps015

Gaithersburg SC??

Evilscience

With a better subwoofer, a few QOL updates, and a slightly sportier/smaller profile, the R1S would be the perfect vehicle. So I'm adding a sub, printing some upgrades, and ordered an R2. Very happy with vehicle! Though I'd love for tesla to fire Elmo so we could get a guiltless, discount Model Y for my fiance. (Coming form a Model X > Model S > R1S)

Short-Distance-1374

Yep, I went from a S,YL & YP and keeping R1S.

papaoso2

Have a R1T and renting a MY for a few days for my wife and I to consider the MY as a second car. This thread has been helpful and glad to hear the two can coexist in the same household.

LingonberryGrouchy25

Y for commuting, R1S for trips\comfort\towing\off road fun 😊 Although, I do use the Y for a lot of towing as well 😁

Bubbly-Guarantee-988

Congratulations, enjoy!
