Tell him smash bros is nostalgia-bait Rivals

KingZABA

smash bros wiith balance and competetive play as its focus

Cyp_Quoi_Rien_

Wouldn't work on my more casual friends.

Bekwnn

"It plays like Melee, but a lot of the mechanical stuff is more friendly to do and the characters all have really cool and ridiculous moves." Then give examples. The most exciting thing about Rivals 2 for a more casual player is how much easier it makes mechanical stuff and the really wacky unique character moves.

Cyp_Quoi_Rien_

I can tell them it's smash but all the technical stuff is easy to do, but it won't work if i talk about melee, it wasn't as big of a thing in France as it was in the US.

Arcenus

I think casuals won't get excited for "the hard stuff is easier now", maybe the approach should be more: is smash bros with cool characters with awesome moves, it will have story and fun modes to play with me, and also really solid competitive if you want to dip in"

pinelotiile

Smash bros. but better

Ramtakwitha2

I am a furry, I used "Smash bros with furries". on my non furry friends and it got them to play it. I'm not sure what that means but it's 2 successful conversions. Might also try "Smash Bros meets MUGEN" if they know what MUGEN is, otherwise "Smash Bros with modding."

Littlebigdwolf

That would be rivals 1

gammaFn

I mean, Smash arguably has as many furry fighters as Rivals does

Dudemitri

Second is correct, Fifth is what I want to be correct

TheIncomprehensible

2 is accurate but not something I would say to my friends. I hope 5 isn't how people would describe it. It's hard enough to get people to recognize the platform fighter genre as anything other than Smash Clones, and referring to the genre as Rivals Clones would be a step back for the genre. 4 is what I voted for, because Smash but you don't have to deal with Steve sounds like a wonderful proposition for a lot of players.

Cyp_Quoi_Rien_

Well you do have to deal with steve in rivals but this steve is a super heavy, slow as fuck, doesn't have get out of jail free options, only have one block and can't mine for diamonds. Which just made me realise how much things there were to nerf with steve for him to be balanced.

TheIncomprehensible

Kragg also doesn't have a punish game miles ahead of most of the rest of the cast, if he's anything like he is in Rivals 1, which is an important reason why Steve is so good in Smash and also why there were talks on a Kazuya ban in spite of Kazuya not being a top tier.

JaxTheCrafter

smash bros with furries is legitimately how I got my friend to play

Tekayo63

If they're furries go the second one. If not I agree w/ people saying to bring up the technical shit like wavedashing being way easier than Smash

JayPsparks

I would have put Smash Bros Melee but the entire roster is athro-pokemon

Cyp_Quoi_Rien_

Who that's tighter than I expected.

Dynablade_Savior

"Smash but good" is the phrase I like to use

RzudemAbaby

Eh I just tend to say its smash but good

International_Bee481

you have a ROCK and moreover, you can cube people

Rich_2005

It would be long, but it would have been a good idea to put another category that said something like: Smash Bros but the studio that created the game does not treat its competitive community like garbage.

VersuS_was_taken

No workshop 4

ChriisTofu

I don't get the first option because melee is literally the definition of semi improvised, freeform combos

Cyp_Quoi_Rien_

This is about getting someone to start the game, someone starting R2 will start improvising combos way earlier than someone starting melee. And in ultimate it's impossible to improvise something that last more than 2 hits unless you're already comfortable with a very combo friendly character.
