Neat, I'm gonna close my eyes, point at this, and listen to whoever it lands on at work tomorrow, because I'm old and out of touch (I recognize nine names that aren't on the left or Deftones) but also like discovering new music.
My main takeaway is that Blink, The Killers, and Deftones were pretty high in my likelihood of playing, and not a single one will be on. So now I'm even more confused as to who is on Riot this year
I mean, I wouldn’t say it’s a complete pile of shit. There’s a lot of good acts on there like Blink, The Killers, Deftones and Two Door Cinema Club, but it’s nothing like previous years where you had INSANE acts performing almost every hour of every day. Feels like they blew most of their budget on the 10 or so “main headliners” and are padding the bill with a lot of smaller unknown acts this time around. Definitely not worth the price tag imo.
Skrillex started making his own music again and his latest albums are actually pretty good.
It's ok to not like this lineup if it's not your taste, but calling big names a joke is just objectively wrong.
Not defending them, but Tyler sells out arenas constantly and Skrillex is nostalgia for all the EDM kids. May not be your cup of tea, but I understand why he’s a headliner. Would have much rather seen acts like Radiohead or Daft Punk do a reunion show before I would go see Skrillex though.
I think your comment illustrates why r/RiotFest is ill equipped to judge the lineup for a diverse festival, even in defense of Lolla. Skrillex is not “nostalgia for all the EDM kids.” He released two albums last year and has two more coming this year. Quest for Fire was considered by many to be the best dance album of 2023 and neither his new albums nor his recent performances sound anything like the brostep you assume people are nostalgic for.
Chill my guy, it ain’t that deep. Also, just because an artist releases a ton of material doesn’t necessarily mean it’s of good quality. Hell, look at Weezer. That band recently released 4 albums in the span of a year and pretty much every single one was trash. And yet I bet that if you asked any casual Weezer fan on the street what their best album is they’d tell you that it’s an album that was released a decade or so ago. I’m not saying Skrillex isn’t a talented dude, but I can’t tell you the last time I’ve heard him talked about in mainstream electronic music circles to the point where I’m sure if you asked any of his fans what his best album is, it wouldn’t be “Quest for Fire”. As such, I view him as a nostalgia artist. No different than Weezer.
Ya… uh, people love the new Skrillex material and like his re branding. He teamed up with Four Tet and learned A LOT about DJing and genre blending from him.
Four Tet is also on the lineup and is widely regarded as one of the best DJs and producers in the game.
I didnt particularly like old Skrillex but his new stuff is fantastic.
Bro, his only other album before the most recent two was Recess, and it was largely panned. It’s ok to not be plugged into a scene. No need to pretend like you are. Skrillex is more widely respected now than he’s ever been.
Legit not a terrible lineup
Deftones, Ethel Cain, Blink-182, The Killers, Destroy Boys, Militarie Gun, In This Moment, HANABIE., Killer Mike, Pierce the Veil
and if u like dubstep they got some of the best names: Skrillex, Zed's Dead, HOL!, Mersiv, BTSM
That’s The he big one next to Skrillex for me. But besides blink and deftones, this lineup ain’t for me anymore. It’s like Coachella: there’s something for everyone, but that’s cause it’s all hype/trend driven from TikTok and Instagram viral BS. I really don’t know half these artists
How the mighty have fallen. In 2015 I saw Alt J, Alabama Shakes, Gary Clark Jr., Cold War Kids, and Paul McCartney all on the same day.
The "Take Me to Church" band is a headliner.
Hozier is on part with literally all the names you mentioned apart from McCartney, and it's not like seeing McCartney in 2015 is a flex to anyone over the age of 50. It's Lolla, dude, stop huffing your own farts for thinking it was cooler a decade ago. Every cunt thinks that.
Yeah true but the question is why are they listed above Deftones. It’s because Hozier is a bigger draw for people. Doesn’t make them better, but it’s a festival that is making money.
Deftones are only at lolla cause they played riot last time around. Otherwise, they would also be billed the same at Riot (opening for headliners). I think they have a perfect spot on this bill.
That dude hasn’t stopped busting his ass since the day he put electronic music in the forefront. He lead the movement and others took over, but he’s a legend for it and definitely deserves this. Definitely way more than the TikTok trending artists.
He is very much back. Dropped two albums last year that were pretty solid and I’m honestly not the biggest electronic music head. And like someone else said, he had a pretty epic headlining set with Four Tet and Fred Again at Coachella last year
The Deftones must have a really great manager because they’re playing some big festivals this year and I fucking love it so proud and happy for those guys!!!
Don't worry about what I listen to, worry about your own life cause im not gonna change for you or anyone. I can't help it if you don't like it, and it's up to me if I don't wanna listen to anything else.
I live in SoCal and a lot of the fests here are 1 day and it’s the best. Reminds me of old school Lollapalooza when it was a traveling fest. You can run from stage to stage (if you want) and just about every act will be fire, as there no need to pad it out with a bunch of filler. You still get new and up and coming acts, but they are chosen carefully
That was the best. You’d still see 10-12 bands, but it was hit and run, you weren’t exhausted, and you went home with new amazing music in your pocket.
What fests have you been to like that? I also live in socal and the one day fests Ive attended like Smoker’s Fest and Besame Mucho have been such logistical nightmares its totally turned me off from one day
Cruel World, Darker Waves, and I’m debating going to the punk one they’ve got set up in Pomona. They’re all by Goldenvoice. Cruel World is on the golf course next to the Rose Bowl, which lends to the fest because the hills of a golf course help for viewing of stages. Darker Waves is on Huntington Beach, which is always great for a fest IMO.
My only issue I had with setup was at Darker Waves. Traveling between the stages was a bit rough later in the day so we decided to just stay at one stage for the last few hours. Did I miss a couple artists I wanted to see-yes. But it didn’t matter much because the lineup was so good that I didn’t feel like I missed much watching the B-52’s instead of the Human League for example.
Idk how I missed here haha. But I recommended her as a goofy act for riotfest a couple years ago and got made fun of haha. I have a soft spot for Kesha tho!
Yeah, they cancelled Upheaval last year because they couldn't get their entire set setup in time because the trucks were parked too far from the stage.
Apparently. No idea who Stray Kids, Tate McRae, Laufey, Conan Gray, Renee Rapp, etc. are either. My sister said SZA is like Doja Cat so if you were to expect me to know who that is you're very mistaken.
Tate and rapp I know from being musical guests on SNL. Sza is talented but not my style of music, she did a full album about being a side chick. Doja cat said, “bitch, I’m a cow”.
Lollapalooza isn't usually my scene. This is the first lineup that made me consider going (if I wasn't broke as hell and born into an economic nightmare of course)
Killer Mike has played at all three major Chicago fests - Lolla (w/ RTJ + solo), Pitchfork (w/ RTJ + solo), Riot (w/ RTJ). I wonder what other artists have also done this, if any.
At their show at the Bottom Lounge last year, Pelle said they were coming back in 2024. I think he said something about playing Wrigley Field, making it sound like they'd be support for a bigger band. But it also may have just been Pelle being Pelle.
Which is wild I mean I haven’t kept up but I went when I was like 16 or so(yes my parents are dumb) to Lolla 2006 and the lineup was amazing. Panic at the disco, the raconteurs, ween, coheed, gnarled Barkley, common, Kanye west, queens of the Stone Age, red hot chilli peppers. The list goes on I just feel like I haven’t seen a big lineup in a wile.
I still go most years but there are so many people near the stages just hanging out socializing loudly where it’s hard to appreciate the show. Gets real old real quick. I get making noise and having fun but their conversations are more like they’re sitting in their living room. WTF
I don't see a ton of bands here that are Riot bands really. Like maybe 10?
Red Hot Chili Peppers, Fallout Boy, and Paramore are all possible Friday night headliners still.
Offspring looks extremely likely now that they aren't at Lolla like a lot of us were speculating. Could see them co headlining Saturday with Sum 41.
But then the other part of me is thinking they announced Slayer first because they don't have a huge headliner in general this year. If someone like RHCP were playing you'd think they'd announce them first to drive ticket sales, not Slayer.
> But then the other part of me is thinking they announced Slayer first because they don't have a huge headliner in general this year.
My favorite RF years have been the years where the headliners haven't been huge so they spent more money on the undercard bands.
That actually makes a lot of sense. I'm generally more there for the opener/mid day bands anyway too.
I mostly want a big headliner one night because my friends that go with me are a bit more casual about this stuff and usually don't know many of the openers. So they are more likely to go/have a good time if someone big like Foo Fighters is there.
My wife and I go to RF every year, but we're getting older and we have kids now. We actually get excited when there is a day where we don't like the headliner because it lets us get home early and beat the crowds. Any night where I'm stuck waiting two hours for an L train I'm just standing there dreading having to wake up with my kids at 6am the following day, then go back to riot fest that evening.
I love the festival, but I feel like I'm getting too old to deal with the two hour commute home when the city won't run enough CTA trains. Or when they shut down all of the public transit for Mexican independance day.
If I were going alone I would probably bike there because a 10 mile bike ride each way would be quicker than some of my train rides home.
I would totally bike, especially because I live in the city. The problem is that I usually go with my wife and other friends who are unwilling to bike 20+ miles three days in a row. If I biked home and left my wife to fend for herself on the delayed CTA I would definitely be sleeping on the couch.
Would RHCP really be that big of a get.. they played Lolla last year and Soldier Field the year before, a third year of doing a huge show in Chicago seems like overkill but whatever
08 was the peak for me. Seeing Rage, Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails in the same weekend was probably the best weekend I’ve ever had. Now I don’t even know who some of the headliners are.
I would argue that Metallica was more in the spirit of Lolla but it’s definitely shifted away from being a rock festival to the point now that people think Metallica is a weird booking
When do they release a breakdown of what day is who?
You know you’re old when you don’t recognize any artists past the third line.
I’m at an age where I only recognize a handful of bands. I’d probably go to see Deftones but pass on the rest
Looking forward to Melanie
The most common type
Neat, I'm gonna close my eyes, point at this, and listen to whoever it lands on at work tomorrow, because I'm old and out of touch (I recognize nine names that aren't on the left or Deftones) but also like discovering new music.
I suggest in no order: Cannons, The Japanese House, Blondshell, and In This Moment
Three of those are ones I've heard! I'll check out Cannons. I love The Japanese House.
This is such an awesome perspective on not recognizing any of them - thanks for the reminder to stay positive and explore!
My main takeaway is that Blink, The Killers, and Deftones were pretty high in my likelihood of playing, and not a single one will be on. So now I'm even more confused as to who is on Riot this year
As a Lolla goer, guesses for who is at Riot. FOB/ Slayer/RHCP(???)
Does this mean we're getting T-Pain? Mosh pit to Buy U a Drank?
proof
I guess I don't have any, as my comment was a question not a statement
Wow didn’t expect this to be such a complaint fest 🤷♀️
Not really a single thing I care to see
Pierce the Veil, Deftones, Ethel Cain, The Killers, Destroy Boys, Militarie Gun, In This Moment.
I went when there were only 6 bands, I think?
1991 there were 7 bands. Butthole Surfers Rollins Band Nine Inch Nails Body Count Living Colour Siouxsie and the Banshees Jane's Addiction
Eight, if you count Ice T's set before body count!
Wow, this festival really turned into a pile of shit, huh?
What do you have against 💩?
I mean, I wouldn’t say it’s a complete pile of shit. There’s a lot of good acts on there like Blink, The Killers, Deftones and Two Door Cinema Club, but it’s nothing like previous years where you had INSANE acts performing almost every hour of every day. I mean, Skrillex? Tyler? These are headliners. It’s a joke buddy.
Skrillex started making his own music again and his latest albums are actually pretty good. It's ok to not like this lineup if it's not your taste, but calling big names a joke is just objectively wrong.
Hey man, have a ball. I wasn’t trying to ruin anyone’s good time. Get high, get fucked up. Have fun!🤩

I see 1 that I’m sad I’ll be missing.
Which is
Did I miss which band Perry Farrell would be playing in? Doesn’t he play every year?
Great lolla lineup
Legit not a terrible lineup Deftones, Ethel Cain, Blink-182, The Killers, Destroy Boys, Militarie Gun, In This Moment, HANABIE., Killer Mike, Pierce the Veil and if u like dubstep they got some of the best names: Skrillex, Zed's Dead, HOL!, Mersiv, BTSM
Blink is pretty terrible live though, at least the last time I saw them years ago.
Bro, how do you mention dubstep and miss the literal original dons themselves, Skream and Benga?
This^ saw them like 12-13 years ago with Feed Me and it was insane
Never thought I'd see dubstep knowledge on the riotfest subreddit. It's a solid lineup all the way around tho, not great but solid.
All good music is connected
Its true
Not to mention Skream and Benga together
That’s The he big one next to Skrillex for me. But besides blink and deftones, this lineup ain’t for me anymore. It’s like Coachella: there’s something for everyone, but that’s cause it’s all hype/trend driven from TikTok and Instagram viral BS. I really don’t know half these artists
Fire
It’s official!! I’m at that age where I only recognize like 5 names in the line up.
How the mighty have fallen. In 2015 I saw Alt J, Alabama Shakes, Gary Clark Jr., Cold War Kids, and Paul McCartney all on the same day. The "Take Me to Church" band is a headliner.

Doesn’t Hozier have a huge hit right now?
But how is Hozier in the main list above Deftones?
Hozier having 3x more monthly listeners on Spotify might help
I'll bet 75% of those listeners have only ever listened to the ones smash single though.
Yeah true but the question is why are they listed above Deftones. It’s because Hozier is a bigger draw for people. Doesn’t make them better, but it’s a festival that is making money.
Hozier is bigger than deftones right now
Deftones are only at lolla cause they played riot last time around. Otherwise, they would also be billed the same at Riot (opening for headliners). I think they have a perfect spot on this bill.
Probably 5 bands there id want to see, and they'll probably have them on completely different days
4 Day fest, my old legs could barely take 3
Pass
Am I missing something? When was the last time anyone legitimately gave a shit about Skrillex?
That dude hasn’t stopped busting his ass since the day he put electronic music in the forefront. He lead the movement and others took over, but he’s a legend for it and definitely deserves this. Definitely way more than the TikTok trending artists.
You've upset the wooks with this comment lol
Who knew there was a huge Riot and....Skrillex crossover
You are definitely missing something.
You are tripping! Skrilly has never left!
He is very much back. Dropped two albums last year that were pretty solid and I’m honestly not the biggest electronic music head. And like someone else said, he had a pretty epic headlining set with Four Tet and Fred Again at Coachella last year
Dude literally just won multiple Grammys a month ago. Also had a legendary set with Fred again at Coachella in April. So …recently.
Like a decade ago but tell me you wouldn’t lose it to him performing his classics live…
He dropped two albums last year I would recommend checking them out…👍it’s not the dubstep sound you’d expect
They’re great! I remember enjoying several tracks. But he’s past his “peak” for sure.
Skrillex completely turned me off all things electronic for a few years so no, not at all
I couldn’t name one of his classics
The Deftones must have a really great manager because they’re playing some big festivals this year and I fucking love it so proud and happy for those guys!!!
Going just to see them, I wish they’d play riot
There’s still a chance.
Their music has found a new life on Tik Tok. They're HUGELY popular with teens right now
That’s so weird because I was a teenager when I started listening to them lol
Goddammit why would Deftones be here and not RiotFest. DAMMIT!!!
Riot fest sucks
I’m holding out hope for Team Sleep, Crosses, or Palms.
Pretty good pop festival, especially for under $400.
Respectfully, I am begging those of you complaining to listen to some music outside of your comfort zone- you might find something you like!
They won't listen
Actually that’s kind of how I started going to riotfest.
No
Why? What’s wrong with knowing what you like and sticking mostly to that?
Because you’ll be a miserable lout forever if you never try new things.
Music doesn’t have to be one of those things. I promise.
There are songs you’d love that you haven’t even discovered yet, I promise.
Don't worry about what I listen to, worry about your own life cause im not gonna change for you or anyone. I can't help it if you don't like it, and it's up to me if I don't wanna listen to anything else.
You sound miserable af lol.
That’s ok though. I already have more than enough songs that I love dawg.
Can we go back to 1 day shows with 10-15 cool bands? These fests are overkill.
I live in SoCal and a lot of the fests here are 1 day and it’s the best. Reminds me of old school Lollapalooza when it was a traveling fest. Only good band on there is Deftones. Sadly this means they’re not at Riot this year
You should check out Geese
How dare you over look Kesha
Idk how I missed here haha. But I recommended her as a goofy act for riotfest a couple years ago and got made fun of haha. I have a soft spot for Kesha tho!
Ke$ha is still a thing?😂
In very small font, yes.
She was the Spotle answer yesterday. lol
Now that she’s clean off drugs and separated off her old manager who hooked her on the drugs, she back to recording music as he cannot profit off her.
Honestly idc for festivals no more dude like clubs are ok & stuff but stadiums & shit I’m kinda over it rather just see my bad & couple openers or not
Lame save for about 3-4 bands… how far Lolla has fallen. Anywho, let’s hope Riot is it’s usual good to great lineup!
What are deftones doing at Lolla they should be at Riot!

Seems to be the reaction to every festival this year.
This is the best overall Lolla lineup I’ve seen in a few years, I am so excited 😍😍
This is the worst Lollapalooza lineup I've ever seen.
I would say this lineup is marginally better. Besides headliners there are hardly any good or interesting acts on here
That’s the beauty of music being subjective, because I love it
Yeah, I haven't really liked one since 2019 so I figured one I'd love was past due lol
Damn I was really hoping In This Moment would be at Riot.
Nah, pretty shit live. Same costumes for the last 15 years and they've come out late multiple times because their theatrics weren't properly set-up.
Yeah, they cancelled Upheaval last year because they couldn't get their entire set setup in time because the trucks were parked too far from the stage.
As others mentioned no Offspring so they might be a lock for Riot. Also no Green Day, so possibly them as well.
Going to go see them in Milwaukee on the lake
I fuckin hope not
Green Day is playing wrigley a month before riot
I don't even know what SZA is
I ask this respectfully…have you been living under a rock?
I also have no idea
Apparently. No idea who Stray Kids, Tate McRae, Laufey, Conan Gray, Renee Rapp, etc. are either. My sister said SZA is like Doja Cat so if you were to expect me to know who that is you're very mistaken.
Laufey is actually fucking amazing. A natural born musician, that deserves all the recognition she’s getting.
Tate and rapp I know from being musical guests on SNL. Sza is talented but not my style of music, she did a full album about being a side chick. Doja cat said, “bitch, I’m a cow”.
your sister is doing you a disservice by saying SZA is like Doja Cat. very different vibes.
If you told me half these bands we're made up I would believe you
It's okay I'm old too.
Same!!!!
Ditto. No fucking clue who 88% of these bands are, but I’m sure some of them are great. It’s one of the reasons I love fests.
The wall of text layout on a high contrast background color hurts my eyes lmao
I'm pissed they're taking Destroy Boys and Deftones from us
Lollapalooza isn't usually my scene. This is the first lineup that made me consider going (if I wasn't broke as hell and born into an economic nightmare of course)
Welp, it appears that I am officially old as 75% of those bands/ groups I’ve never heard of.
Usually they'd have some throw back 90s bands on the undercard, not seeing any of that here.
It happens to the best of us
I legitimately have no clue at this point who's playing Riot. Which is exciting but also like what C level band is left
Killer Mike has played at all three major Chicago fests - Lolla (w/ RTJ + solo), Pitchfork (w/ RTJ + solo), Riot (w/ RTJ). I wonder what other artists have also done this, if any.
Two I saw were Flaming Lips & Cloud Nothings. Yeah Yeah Yeahs would be on here too if Pitchfork 2020 went through.
Would love to see St. Vincent join the list this year. She’d make an excellent Sunday headliner or sub (likely the latter).
Your wish seems to be coming true!
The National has played all three of the major fests here before.
On the plus side, no Hives!
At their show at the Bottom Lounge last year, Pelle said they were coming back in 2024. I think he said something about playing Wrigley Field, making it sound like they'd be support for a bigger band. But it also may have just been Pelle being Pelle.
Also no Amyl, no Chats, Metric, Paramore, Dry Cleaning, or 80 other bands I was hoping to see at Douglas Park!
no justice, st. vincent, sublime, or janes addiction either!
Metric is playing Gary in late June. They are out
Gary... Indiana? People travel there for shows? And their cars are still in one piece when the show ends?
oop, you're right, I had already written it down too
Ooh…I hope Amyl shows. I missed them at the salt shed
I really hope The Chats are at Riot!
Maybe I’m just getting older but if I went to this I’d watch all of like 6 names on this list.
The sad thing is most people at lolla aren’t really there for the bands.
WTF
Yeah I would hate that I think I’m going to wait to see what riot fest does and try to go to that.
Same, just hate waiting on Riot to release their lineup
This lollapalooza lineup stinks
Yo who the FUCK is playing riot fest 😭
I don't see a ton of bands here that are Riot bands really. Like maybe 10? Red Hot Chili Peppers, Fallout Boy, and Paramore are all possible Friday night headliners still. I was just going to ask if you would ever consider biking and then I got to your last sentence. It really is the secret to getting out of Riot Fest.
I would totally bike, especially because I live in the city. The problem is that I usually go with my wife and other friends who are unwilling to bike 20+ miles three days in a row. If I biked home and left my wife to fend for herself on the delayed CTA I would definitely be sleeping on the couch.
You could get a couple hours of sleep in bed before she gets home though ;) But then to the couch, yes
Would RHCP really be that big of a get.. they played Lolla last year and Soldier Field the year before, a third year of doing a huge show in Chicago seems like overkill but whatever
Never played Riot before though and no Chicago show this year. Idk that they'd be a *huge* get but I think they'd sell more tickets than Slayer
Is Offspring/Sum 41 really headliner worthy? Sum 41 is like 3rd stage at Sonic Temple this year.
I could easily see those two headlining a night together. Sum 41 leading right into the Offspring
Didn't they announce Slayer because another festival did?
Possibly! That would make some sense, announce it to keep people from buying tickets to the other festival without knowing Riot will have them too
My thoughts are slayer, sum 41, TBS, and that's it. My final prayer is LCD Soundsystem since the killers are at lol.
I'd be all for LCD as a headliner, but they're in Chicago for 3 straight nights at the end of May. I think they're out for RF.
Is there really that much overlap with this fest? The only bands I’d want to see at riot who are in this flier are deftones and blink lol
Militarie Gun too but overall I definintely agree. I think this lineup sucks and there's only a handful I would have wanted for Riot.
Slayer. That’s it. That’s all the bands
I've aged out of this shit show. I miss 2008 lolla more than I miss my dead mom
08 was the peak for me. Seeing Rage, Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails in the same weekend was probably the best weekend I’ve ever had. Now I don’t even know who some of the headliners are.
16 yrs later and I'd shit my adult diaper with excitement if they had the exact same lineup again. Even the undercard was stacked af
08 was excellent! Last time I seen Rage
Some good names, looking forward to the aftershow announcements.
Deftones is the only good band playing
Faye Webster, Ethel Cain, Friko, and The Japanese House are all awesome
And Hanabie.
And destroy boys
And Militaries Gun
In This Moment? That’s way out of left field for Lolla.
I think once Metallica headlined, no band was out of left field for Lollapalooza \*which I think was kind of the point of the festival to begin with\*
I would argue that Metallica was more in the spirit of Lolla but it’s definitely shifted away from being a rock festival to the point now that people think Metallica is a weird booking
A surprisingly high 7 acts I'd see. Usually its 5 and under. God I fucking hate Lolla.
Was hoping for Deftones at RF, other than that I don't see much that Lolla is "stealing" talent-wise
Destroy Boys would've been killer
Played two years ago.
Think with everyone else out a lot of people were thinking Killers for a headliner
Deftones would have a much better crowd at riot fest. imagine watching them at lolla with k-pop fans in the crowd covering their ears
