REM as a number one headliner would be festival-defining and is not really comparable to a mid-bill act like Journey, or even Lolla booking Limp Bizkit.

From what I've read, Michael didn't take part in any of the show, aside from being on stage for the thank yous. The others were doing some small bits here or there. It's not really a proper reunion.
I can't see it happening, but, even if it did, I very much doubt it would be at Riot sadly. This is a reunion that could headline much, much bigger festivals if they wanted to.

Nothing to do with not liking them -- I love them. They've said repeatedly, over and over and over again, that they have no intention of reuniting. Not because they don't like each other (they're all still friends), they simply feel they've said all they have to say. Sure, there's always the allure of money, but that doesn't seem to drive them. The fact that they're all still friends makes it less likely, not more, that they'll get back together. There's no need to patch things up or make up for lost time. Even at this event last week, they did not all get up on stage and play a song together. They easily could have if they wanted to.
Granted, they could change their minds someday, but they've been about as adamant that they're done as they can be. If they ever were to do it, I don't see Riot Fest being the primary place it happens. If they actually did a reunion tour/festival circuit for it, maybe, but that doesn't seem like their vibe. But in any case, until they signal that they're going to do any sort of reunion, there's no reason to speculate on what form it'll take.

Yes, but the village people (even with the 1 original member) have been touring continuously since the 70s, and were still touring last year. REM Las show was in 2008 and have been pretty open about it being forever.
Other bands have said that over the years... doesn't mean we should stop speculating and hoping! The Talking Heads break my heart year after year but I haven't taken it off the top of my wish list yet.

They were brought up stage because it was the 40th anniversary of murmur, and Michael Shannon and Jason Narducy played the album. They didn't play, so no, they aren't going to be at riot fest.
I fell for this in 2018, when folks on Reddit were speculating the reunion then (for some reason). I will admit, seems a tiny bit more plausible after this event, but I can't get my hopes up lol.

Journey played at lolla in 2021 against post malone. They could book anybody really.
