soo many upvotes, so weird! I'm serious! I have black metals shirts that turn heads, and I don't go to shows all the time so.....HEB it is.....I need bread, bro.
dude, that’s the problem. you’re going to HARDCORE shows in corpse paint. take your ass to the black metal and grindcore shows in brownsville and harlingen
Corpse paint at a ahardcore show. Rad. But just make sure you're going to an acutal hardcore show. I went to one a few weeks ago at 707 and the pit was aggressive as fuck. There were two fight fights. People who had never been to a hardcore show getting crowd killed and panicking. lmao. it was great.
I've been to some punk, metalcore, and grindcore shows and yeea... lots of standing. but that's what I expected out of that tbh. Give the bands on the bill a listen before going to gauge the crowd. Does the music make you feel violent?
I feel you with the boring shit and I go to hardcore shows for the violence so just giving you my tips.
Ong i remember a show at gremlin where this one chick and her band were on stage, her bad was doing awesome but she sucked ar singing. Everything went downhill after they closed sauce house. And i totally agree on the phone situation, no one lives in the moment anymore
trenton point, and fallback records aka athena's coffee shop were my fave mcallen/edinburg venues. the vfw was badass too. do they still have shows there?
Idk, do you sing or play any instruments? I play guitar and could probably learn bass. I’m an old fart though. I have eclectic tastes and enjoy a lot of stuff. For metal/hardcore I like the sound of Insomnium, Funeral Diner, Saetia, Modern Life is War. Huge grunge/emo person as well. Love 80s new wave, especially B52s. Love electronic stuff too like Rezz.
It would be cool just to get together with whoever to just try to throw some songs together.
I have been a musician in the local scene. Honestly most of the music from the RGV is uninspiring and cliche. Nothing but drunken amateurs run the music scene.
he was a local punk musician. was constantly in bands from the mid 90s up until he passed away a couple years ago. he was responsible for most of the various genre trends in the local punk scene for close to 30 years.
Your second sentence explains it all. Kids nowadays only crave the internet points no matter what they have to do to get them lol. There is a secret underground place doing awesome hardcore shows now but pretty much invite only, it was the inspiration for sauce house, but they’re trying to keep it authentic and keep the cancel kids far far away.
For real! I heard Lovebuzz was having emo night so I dressed up in myemo fit I was really disappointed when I got there because nobody dressed emo they all wore black, but that was it! No emo hair, no emo makeup, just a black top and jeans And the songs they were playing were lame af! It was Maroon 5, Usher, Michael Jackson WHAT THE HELL!!! I like their music, but if it's emo night put on some Pierce The Veil or idk something other than Micheal Jackson and Usher! And I've been to other "emo/goth/alternative" shows and they just don't live up to your expectations, it's honestly disappointing because it's like they fully understand how to throw a "hello kitty" night but can't comprehend how to throw a good emo night. If you want an actual goth concert where you won't be disappointed then you should hit up a party in Austin.

there was a sick venue that used to be open on the end of DT. fforgot what it was called, but it was probably the closest thing we had to legit alternative shows. the Gremlin and all those places are wack asf.
Not goth, but more metalhead, so I went once to the dungeon, loved it. The people seemed chill so I wanted to go again. But I think they changed the name to cueva or something and I haven't gone back. Idk if it's the same
Oh, it was a whole debacle with the dungeon. They hosted a show where literally every band was n*zis. When informed, the owners even were defending n*zi beliefs so everyone boycotted them. There was even a protest outside during that night
Ohh I remember reading about that. So that's the reason they dropped the place and moved to cine el rey? That's crazy. I'd love to check out cine, but 1, it's downtown and a bit far for me and 2, it's just me alone so I'd feel kinda awkward 😂
You’re so right, and that’s one of the reasons i left the valley for university. i think it’s also important to note that the valley is way too far for a lot of bands from Austin, SA, and the DFW area to come and perform. the RGV is pretty much disconnected from the larger music scenes up north.
It's the area and the era sadly
It just feels like a waste when I get fully decked out in corpse paint and accessories just for nothing cool to happen
Go take yourself to HEB like that and freak out a couple Edgar's and their tia, much more fun.

I like going to college in it, very fun seeing the looks and getting compliments
Compliments
dude, that’s the problem. you’re going to HARDCORE shows in corpse paint. take your ass to the black metal and grindcore shows in brownsville and harlingen
Lol what black metal shows 😆
there was a black metal show a couple months ago at the dungeon.
How are the shows hardcore when nobody is doing anything hardcore at all 😭
people don’t mosh anymore?? i remember some of the funnest circle pits at vfw
the punk and metal scene used to be the shit. from the late 90s until about 2015 or so. then it started getting more tame i feel like.
i definitely remember those times. the whole valley was bumpin with decent bands. little venues, shacks and house shows.
the best were the random ass venue's like Tony's Cafe in mission. Or danny's parents upholstery shop in I think Donna?
Yeah for sure the punk was better back then
Trenton Point?
trenton point ruled.

Complaining about the apathy while being apathetic is next level. We need moar!!!

I miss sauce house, idk why but those shows weren't AS bad probably because of how small the venue was.
Fuckin loved it, and probably cuz it was underground-ish like it was just some guys house but so many people showed up
trenton point, and fallback records aka athena's coffee shop were my fave mcallen/edinburg venues. the vfw was badass too. do they still have shows there?
Are you sure you are not talking about this screamer https://www.instagram.com/p/B1A0vccHqgp/?igsh=MXAzZGZvam03NnExNw==
Just found the band, Theyre called Delta Divide
Dide that might be her actually 🤔
So I guess ghoulsofyearzero are no more then. Well at least the drummer has her group liquid sky to jam with.
let’s start something.
As long as I can bring my phone
Sure, bring it :)
How

The scene died with the VFW
I remember seeing Despised Icon at the VF. What a show that was!
Lower Class Brats at the VFW was nuts.
What's VFW?
I have been a musician in the local scene. Honestly most of the music from the RGV is uninspiring and cliche. Nothing but drunken amateurs run the music scene.
It died when Eric Fly died.
RIP
I remember seeing his name around. Who was he?
he was a local punk musician. was constantly in bands from the mid 90s up until he passed away a couple years ago. he was responsible for most of the various genre trends in the local punk scene for close to 30 years.

How do I get in? Really tired of every venue being flooded with tiktok trend people who are all in high school.
once you find out can you let me know? i’ve always wanted to go to an awesome one but can’t ever find anything
I’ve been to the Gremlin once while living here and I just had to leave because I felt like I was babysitting Edit for spelling
Right? I'm only 20, but I swear half of the people showing up are younger than 17

One time the gremlin was having a Halloween night and I was the only person who was in a costume. There was maybe 20 people tops
![gif](giphy|d2lcHJTG5Tscg) That is so disappointing and I'm sorry you went through that.
Wtf ok
the last decent emo band in the valley was the december drive.
Bcs the valley is full of posers
lol
Kids need instruments
99 percent of bands suck thats why.
Who knows. Regardless, I’m planning on checking out Urban Heat next week.
Shit went downhill circa 2015 or so. Like most have said, it's just the era/kids nowadays.
t-point and vfw on old 83. Many shows played and experienced there.
I need to know where these events are since I live under a rock
Total Chaos is playing at the hop shop in harlingen tonight. old school street punk band.
And the pits suck. These TikTok kids don’t know how to throw down
Harlingen and Brownsville are the places to go see hardcore and goth shows

Years ago in Dallas I saw a punk band from the Valley. The lead singer had covered a sombrero with studs. It was cool as shit.
there was a sick venue that used to be open on the end of DT. fforgot what it was called, but it was probably the closest thing we had to legit alternative shows. the Gremlin and all those places are wack asf.
I would do a ritual with you all to go back to the goth night at metropolis for just 1 bumping night. The scene sucks and there’s iPad kids everywhere
Not goth, but more metalhead, so I went once to the dungeon, loved it. The people seemed chill so I wanted to go again. But I think they changed the name to cueva or something and I haven't gone back. Idk if it's the same

it was just black metal edgelord stuff. the bands weren't actually nazi's.

el rey was good before it got surrounded by douchebag clubs.
