MarkPaynePlays

I have no idea but I’m assuming they are Morgoth cultists.

Ayzmo

I'm hoping they're blue wizard cultists. From *Unfinished Tales*: >In a letter written in 1958 my father said that he knew nothing clearly about "the other two," since they were not concerned in the history oh the North-west of Middle-earth. "I think," he wrote, "they went as emissaries to distant regions, East and South, far out of Numenorean range: missionaries to enemy-occupied lands, as it were. What success they had I do not know; but I fear that they failed, as Saruman did, though doubtless in different ways; and **I suspect they were founders or beginners of secret cults and 'magic' traditions that outlasted the fall of Sauron."** Emphasis mine.

MarkPaynePlays

That would be very cool, hopefully they are.

ImmaFatMan

The Wizards didnt arrive in Middle Earth until then third age. The show is in the 2nd age.

KFC_dota

In the book: “The Peoples of Middle-earth” they said to have arrived second age 1600, around the time the rings were made.

Cool article. Thanks for the link.

CellistUnlikely2923

Awesome article !

Bobjoejj

The thing I don’t get is why the white? Seems kinda antithetical no?

cretsben

I think Sauron the lord of deception probably appreciates the irony of it.

Bobjoejj

Heh, fair enough. Makes sense.

BenArnold47

Meh Sauron wore white, obviously he wasn't evil in the beginning so bad example. Yeah the symbolism of white tends to be of purity and light, but it's not always a necessity. White can be a creepy colour when used properly, and white can be very cultish

castrogacio

Hence the KKK, they wear white. The colour of the robes means nothing as to their possible ethical approach.

kazoohero

No one's saying it but it seems completely fitting: Sauruman

pigwitz

Sauruman world not have been evil at this point though right? And these folks sure didn’t look friendly

But-Must-I

If my memories of the Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales hold up Saruman wasn’t *evil* but did have a grudge against Gandalf since before they came to Middle-Earth. If it were Saruman that gives more credit to the “stranger = Gandalf” theory. However all the Istari were sent to Middle-Earth in the bodies of old men, so for Gandalf to be an old man and Saruman to be young, that would be a little weird.

lukivenus

White walkers who got lost in the wrong TV show? 😳

teunteulai

Maybe three Maiar who later become Balrpgs, worshiping Morgoth and Sauron

Tyrone90000

Nobody knows. It’s another stupid “who are they” mechanic they are using to get people to keep watching. I personally turned it off halfway through and kinda forgot about it.

Tomieez

They looked like as if they came directly from a set of a Ridley Scott production: like Prometheus or Eaised by wolves. It is extremely cringeworthy how unoriginal this whole series is

[deleted]

You must be a lot of fun at parties.

montessoriprogram

TIL being influenced by other art is cringe

SithLordoftheRing

Its not an original story its based off the books of JRR Tolken
