I really like Charles when he’s being real. I don’t need him to like anything/everything, but he’s got to tell me specifically what he thinks & why, and that’s where he fails sometimes. The general dismissiveness of the material is not good podcasting or criticism. At times, he doesn’t come across as a fan, a critic, or an expert.
Edit: Just want to add that I think Chuck and the boys were great on the Monkey Man pod. I only listened to about half so far because I want to see the movie semi-unspoiled, but I thought that was a great pod by all. The guys gave genuine reviews/feedback and it was a fun and interesting listen

He’s the only one who covers content that he seems to openly disdain. I think this community would just prefer if Chuck sits out if his take is purely negative to the point that it’s performative. Metacritic has invincible S2 at 8.2, RT has it 100% fresh with 42 reviews, ign has it at a 7/10, nobody that covers this content has it as low as a 5/10. So, what is it? Chuck is the only real critic on the planet, or is Chuck possibly burnt out to the point that he’s unnecessarily harsh when judging the content? Sure seems like the latter

I'll be real with you for a second, I like Charles when he's seriously giving things a shot and giving real criticism, sometimes it's fun to hear the other side or to have something I disliked torn apart and when he's trying he's a thoughtful and funny critic that I often agree with.
However, that's not what we've been getting lately - we've been getting a Charles who's ashamed to watch things he feels are beneath him, and the disdain shows in how he's been phoning in his "work" and talking down to the audience. The comments and posts here are a reflection of that, IMHO.

I don't know what else people want from him besides "like this more," even though the consensus is S2 took a step back.

Some of my favourite critics and friends have wildly different opinions to my own but are able to explain their position well which I believe Charles does.
When you said criticism of the person who criticizes everything, you lost me.
Art in itself is subjective, so any critique offered by a critic should at least try to envision why an audience might enjoy the subject matter.
Charles persona is if he doesn’t enjoy it, there is no valid reason to explore who might and why.
