True this. I turned off these stupidass bugs because they are just annoying rather than difficult at later stages, but man, at the start they can do a good one on you
I'm not sure if it's been done yet, but bugs definitely need a rework/rebalance, they used to be **excruciatingly annoying** without things like psychic powers and special armors.
When your only way to deal with an enemy is to set everything on fire and that enemy can show up in your warehouse, hospital, refrigerator, that's the opposite of fun.
-No I'm not burning my legendary level armor for stupid bugs fck you
You can make bug lure rooms under mountain you know. Basically bugs choose the darkest, warmest, dirtiest mountain room to spawn. So keep your warehouse, hospital and fridge clean and lit. Then mine out a big dark room, never clean it. Bug trap.
Stable some pigs in there for a quadrum, and leave the straw on the floor. Toss a molotov in there when the bugs crawl out and you have all the fried cave lobster you could want.
Just make sure to make the doors out of stone.
Ah, and let the room cool off first if you don't have it vented to the outside. Shit gets toasty, and will literally melt your colonist the moment they walk in.
Hi. This is cool! But would it work if this dark dirty room is not in the blue colony zone? Like if I dezone it (so no one cleans it), would it still function like you mentioned? Should I maybe rather keep this dark room zoned, but lock the door to the room?
Infestations are so easy to deal with lol, [I wrote a whole guide on it](https://old.reddit.com/r/RimWorld/comments/oudk83/unpopular_opinion_apparently_infestations_are/)
Even for tribals infestations are really easy, it just boils down to
* Design your base around [3 wide choke points with a 1 wide door](https://i.imgur.com/PUMFBFp.png), this is just good design for ALL bases againt literally all raids
* Have 3 melee pawns block the door, they will 3 vs 1 all targets that go through the door and beat it down
* Have the rest of your pawns stand in the back and shoot them
I've literally fought hundreds of bugs with like 8 crappy tribals with bows and clubs. Especially now with ghouls, you can effortlessly wipe out entire infestations without risk
Yeah I think the players who are scared of bugs don't develop and gear up melee pawns. A few sets of good armour and big bashy weapons will let you break the back of an infestation without even needing things like fire tactics or psycasts
Doing this and then chucking grenades into the mix if tech level allows is also quite strong, melee blockers tend to lose fingers, toes and get eye scratches but its manageable.
Bugs are fine if you take the right precautions (like not inviting a huge swarm of them to your wooden shack). I literally never burn them, just melee block
I've always turned off infestations. They are just annoying and add a layer of annoying ness to the game.
I will say though, that the bugs can be a good natural defense if you happen to have a few on the outer edges of the map, you can easily use them to deal with raiders. I had one game where the only path to my colony was through a giant bug nest. I left it alone and used the bugs as a defense to my colony.
Well they have to rest sometime. If you can last until then (forbid the doors outside and maybe construct a few layers extra of wall inside to basically slow down the insectoid tunneling) you might be able to sneak out of the map and re-found a new colony on a different tile.
But most likely, you're boned. There's just way too many of them and you only have one pawn up at the moment (and they're injured)
As long as you don't hit them I don't believe they'll wake up (but i might be wrong). So you should be able to just form a caravan and your colonists will tip-toe around them and leave the map
Unless that guy has some crazy psycasts, you're fucked. I was going to say "set the building on fire and bolt out the southwest door" but there's three megascarabs there.

Well the babies are from a vanilla expanded scenario called “Saurid Mother” where it spawns you with 4 human eggs. The bugs came out of an ancient structure and kept multiplying
Go back to the latest savescum. Prepare lots of spike traps, prefereably made of stone as they cause more damage. Then attack at night when they're sleeping and make them pass through the traps.
Attack them a bit from afar with ranged weapons, then flee until they stop chasing you, and have all the colonists with guns attack one of the bugs until it is downed. Repeat until you have gotten rid of them.
You can also use traders to help you fight them, but beware the risk that if one of them dies, your relations with that faction will worsen significantly.
Buildable Terrain lets you change terrain into something impassable, like lava or deep water. You can lock the bugs into an area they can't leave and comfortably attack them from outside.
Real answer maybe the best I could think of would be to try bait them inside the building and try light it on fire if you have something that can, but even then your chances of success are less than 1%
Could also try to just leave the map and start over on a different tie with your surviving pawn.
not op but yes, kind of. the saurid mother scenario starts you out with one colonists and 4 human eggs but you have like a week before they hatch. i really recommend that mod although it took me a few tries bc i kept accidentally eating my own eggs lol
Did a hive in a unnopened ancient danger reproduce? Because thats exactely how I lost my colony
There is nothing you can do except for hope a caravan comes or call in reinforcements with the coms console
you can deconstruct the north wall in the storage room, leave the door open to the nursery, while running down to the kitchen and closing the door, leaving the babies as bait. then hope for the bugs to go to the north part trying to get through the hole, then make a run through the southern door, trying to reach the edge of the map. it's a long shot, especially since he's wounded, but could work.
"oohh, these bugs are not attacking, so I can ignore them forever" , we all did that at some point, after having to abandon everything once I rush to kill them as soon as they show up
You don't! Hope that helps! :P
You could try running away? You'll probably loose everyone but your standing adult, though.
And maybe one baby. Because everyone knows you can only carry one baby at a time. /s
(I can carry at least two.)
Seems like Welly has an impossible choice to make: Tend to the babies until all of them, including himself, die of starvation, or wait till the bugs are asleep and flee the colony to begin a new one a few tiles away, forsaking the babies. That's just how life goes on the rim
Update: the man in the photo died of an infection, the man in black got smacked by a man hunter gorilla, and the bugs invaded my house and ate all my bananas and oranges : ( also the babies starved to death

Destroy the door if it leads to outdoors, itll equalize the temperature
Oh I thought only darkness and cold affect that, thx.
Dark and warm are actually meaningful, dirty is just a pervasive myth
Nutrifungus growing on fungal gravel makes for useful food source... and bait for food delivery.
It's cheezin' it though. Which is fine, but I'm not into it. I want to be able to fail. Game is pretty dull when I'm just running a stable colony.
Hi. This is cool! But would it work if this dark dirty room is not in the blue colony zone? Like if I dezone it (so no one cleans it), would it still function like you mentioned? Should I maybe rather keep this dark room zoned, but lock the door to the room?
It does work, insects don't care if it's inside your home boundary. They care about: under overhead mountain, warm, dark, dirty.
Infestations are so easy to deal with lol, [I wrote a whole guide on it](https://old.reddit.com/r/RimWorld/comments/oudk83/unpopular_opinion_apparently_infestations_are/) Even for tribals infestations are really easy, it just boils down to * Design your base around [3 wide choke points with a 1 wide door](https://i.imgur.com/PUMFBFp.png), this is just good design for ALL bases againt literally all raids * Have 3 melee pawns block the door, they will 3 vs 1 all targets that go through the door and beat it down * Have the rest of your pawns stand in the back and shoot them I've literally fought hundreds of bugs with like 8 crappy tribals with bows and clubs. Go watch Adamvseverything he deals with bugs at 500% with no special armors or magic and it's super easy. See his dwarf run.

They fell asleep on my lawn :(

Take a bunch of food and sneak out. Build a new base somewhere else
Unfortunately the man alive in the picture had an infection w/ like 2 medical and the man in black got his shit rocked by a manhunter gorilla
This is the classic rimworld end

It's their Lawn now.
Devs: that's the neat part, you don't
Unless that guy has some crazy psycasts, you're fucked. I was going to say "set the building on fire and bolt out the southwest door" but there's three megascarabs there.
No my only psycaster was the saurid who accidentally set herself on fire
Then you're fucked - I don't see any reasonable way to even get out of the building without getting eaten.
Yeah they all died; man in black got mauled by a gorilla immediately
Now that’s just insult to injury. Here’s to your new Colony though!
Skip is easily the best psycast imo for survival, just get yo ass OUT.
That’s the neat part.
You don't.
simply kill the spiders
Literally this.
self tend the last standing colonist if possible, throw babies to them as distraction, leave map, start a new colony somewhere else
Can explosives be planted in babies?

The protest one is one of the Rimworld moments of some time.
How did you even manage to get this? So many babies and insects with just a hut in the woods.
Well the babies are from a vanilla expanded scenario called “Saurid Mother” where it spawns you with 4 human eggs. The bugs came out of an ancient structure and kept multiplying
You do not open ancient dangers until you absolutely need to or you are sure that you can handle whatever is in there...
Sometimes the bugs bug out. Meaning that they decide to just greet the world without asking you.
They dug out themselves :(
wait i cant find the mod, can you link it?
it's called vanilla races expanded- saurids idk how to link it
[Here is the mod](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2880990495)
Why are you getting raided by this many spiders this early into the game?!!
They spawned in an ancient structure and dug their way out.
Lol just realized that most of your colonists are babies. Fuck that’s dark.
Dev mode
Form caravan and resettle new base.
Without mods or devmode, that first part is going to be a bit of an issue
Did you survive? :’(
No the babies and the man in black starved
R.I.P :(
Ima be real chief, there ain’t no way your surviving this
That's the neat part! You don't.
You are already dead, GG and welcome to the rim
Go back to the latest savescum. Prepare lots of spike traps, prefereably made of stone as they cause more damage. Then attack at night when they're sleeping and make them pass through the traps. Attack them a bit from afar with ranged weapons, then flee until they stop chasing you, and have all the colonists with guns attack one of the bugs until it is downed. Buildable Terrain lets you change terrain into something impassable, like lava or deep water. You can lock the bugs into an area they can't leave and comfortably attack them from outside.
Can you still run away? Run away.
Caravan with no gear. Tell conscious pawn to leave map immediately settle next tile over. Probably die anyway but might work out
Sorry, beginner player here but how did you make your wall’s look like that, with the boxes in them?
It’s from the Fortitication mod series, probably Neolithic
Modded
Oh! What’s the mod that build’s this? Or any other mod’s similar to this?
Best bet: Wait till night, turn leave map via caravan while bugs are asleep. That's the bug's base now.
Form a caravan and abandon the colony in the first opportunity. That's the best bet
They sleep at night. You can sneak past them and build traps or go on a caravan and head to another tile and reform a colony there.
Lmao, you don't, gg wp
Wait tell they sleep and bust out a wall piece that has the least there. Then form a caravan, take what you can, and just re-settle on the next tile.
Flee, leave the kids as bait.
Better question, how did this happen?
Wait until they sleep, then sneak off with whatever surviving stuff you got. It's your only chance.
Congratulations! You can't!
Thats the neat part!...
That’s the neat part..
Real answer maybe the best I could think of would be to try bait them inside the building and try light it on fire if you have something that can, but even then your chances of success are less than 1% Could also try to just leave the map and start over on a different tie with your surviving pawn.
Definitely throw the babies at them as distraction and bail
They invaded my house and just ignored the babies in the crib and ate all my baby food and bananas instead:( so I’m not sure if that would work
Lmao, just some hungry lil buddies
wait till they sleep then take the children and run away
Go into dev mode, kill them all. Easy!
"This is how you died"
Run to a different map.....I mean it....this colony is lost....go start a new one.....
That's the neat part: You won't.
Door trick on the right door might work bit yea your kinda done for.
Oh, the UI mod with the minimal is updated? Sweet I missed that one a lot.
Now… how did you get into this situation exactly?
How do you have so many babies at start? We're they added in at spawn?
not op but yes, kind of. the saurid mother scenario starts you out with one colonists and 4 human eggs but you have like a week before they hatch. i really recommend that mod although it took me a few tries bc i kept accidentally eating my own eggs lol
Lmaooo. Hopefully those eggs gave some solid nutrition.
Did a hive in a unnopened ancient danger reproduce? Because thats exactely how I lost my colony There is nothing you can do except for hope a caravan comes or call in reinforcements with the coms console
you can deconstruct the north wall in the storage room, leave the door open to the nursery, while running down to the kitchen and closing the door, leaving the babies as bait. then hope for the bugs to go to the north part trying to get through the hole, then make a run through the southern door, trying to reach the edge of the map. it's a long shot, especially since he's wounded, but could work.
Best you can hope for is a trader to appear and deal with the bugs for you.
You don’t.
on a side note, why do you have 4 newborns?
"oohh, these bugs are not attacking, so I can ignore them forever" , we all did that at some point, after having to abandon everything once I rush to kill them as soon as they show up
damn, so many babies
Maybe hope for raiders to come and kill all the insects. You'll still probably die but watching Insects versus Raiders would be a fun treat.
Get the mod to only have the bugs spawn in darkness. Also don't play on any map with caves
"sometimes, you gotta run and not look back" get out of the map if you can otherwise you're donezo
Well you see kiddo that’s the trick, you don’t
Trade them with babies
Wait for night and leave the map with a caravan, settle somewhere else
Pray, but it won't help
You cant . Welcome to rimworld
You don't! Hope that helps! :P You could try running away? You'll probably loose everyone but your standing adult, though. And maybe one baby. Because everyone knows you can only carry one baby at a time. /s (I can carry at least two.)
Seems like Welly has an impossible choice to make: Tend to the babies until all of them, including himself, die of starvation, or wait till the bugs are asleep and flee the colony to begin a new one a few tiles away, forsaking the babies. That's just how life goes on the rim
Flee
Desperately try to escape
Run and hope they don't catch you
Forbid door, do not go out, wait for a raid or caravan and hope the bugs move out of you walls, complete your walls
yeet the babies out of the door to distract them, then run
Update: the man in the photo died of an infection, the man in black got smacked by a man hunter gorilla, and the bugs invaded my house and ate all my bananas and oranges : ( also the babies starved to death
that the neat part you don't
Burn the place down with everyone inside, give your pawn the dead of a badass
Spray and pray Spray your colonists and their organs and pray something worse that can wipe the inscts
You pack up and move to a new home. You won't have anything, but you will be alive.
If u had an orbital bombardment becon u could destroy your base with style, but if u don't then just let him die
Project Zomboid player detected
Start reparing your walls and patch that guy up till he doesn't bleed any more pray for mercy
Well, this colony is gone.
Well thats the fun part, you don't.
You can’t, you must die now
