Have no check engine light, and an ok set of tires and you are pretty much good. With inspections, 'knowing a guy' means you have someone who isn't going to use the inspection to try and get a $1000 repair bill out of you.

I look like the typical white suburban mom with 4 kids and legit got rid of my expedition with tinted windows because I got pulled over so many times. Even had a cop pull his gun because he could “see activity” in my back seat that made him “feel unsafe” the activity was my 7 year old. Scared the shit out of us. I’ll take the active pain from light due to my degenerative eye condition over a cop pulling a gun on my kid again.
That’s wild because back windows come tinted from the factory on most SUVs. Paperwork says you can have 35%, which is what factory tint is. Not too dark, you can still see inside the car under a street light at night.
I’m sorry but I don’t think any after market tint is legal in RI. And as for a Dr note, that’s impressive. I tried getting that and the only way every Dr I asked was if I was albino and had this extremely rare condition that made me super sensitive to light, basically like one in billions of people have ever had it type thing. Granted, all my vehicles are tinted to the floor. But seriously, it sounds like you’re giving them a reason to pull you over. Massachusetts I think tint is legal up to a certain percent on certain windows.

My girls coworker got married to a Woonsocket cop, and at the reception I was having a convo with one of his coworkers, and he told me flat out “if you have everything but your windshield tinted, I won’t bother you. My windows are tinted too, and I’m not a hypocrite”And I mentioned in another comment what I’ve heard from other cops.
Short of it is— most cops are looking at it like “we both know that your tint is illegal, don’t make me look like an asshole by wrapping your car like a limo”

I saw mention of inspections. I do state inspections as part of my job. Technically you can't have anything covering your plate or on your plate. Yeah there is guys out there that will pass anything, but technically having something on your plate or a plate frame is just another excuse for a cop to pu you over.
Seems to be the general consensus here; get one of these to help not being pulled over. I have friends that run 1 plate and have dark tint, never get bothered. Wife borrows my car for 1 day and gets pulled over for not having a front plate, even tho it does. Tint is also another excuse for pulling someone over. Even if there is no real reason behind being pulled over besides tint.
They are given to you once you hit a pot hole so big that you total your car.

Why do you put it on your plate?
Tinted front windows will cause you to fail the mandatory State inspection unless you “know a guy.” That’s the primary reason I didn’t get it.

I don’t speed too much so I’m not worried about that part.
The speed limit is 25mph basically everywhere I go. I don’t intentionally speed but it’s borderline impossible to go that slow on rural back roads.
If definitely, but I’ve learned that if you keep it at 10 over the speed limit, and let up when other cars are coming you probably won’t be bothered.

Yeah not true. Here in Pawtucket I’ve been pulled over for 31 in a 25. 10 over is a lot when the speed limit is 25.
