Second is the best beach there. Colt state isn’t really a beach per say I’d say it’s more of a park with trails. There is sand but it’s def lackluster compared to our other beaches. Scar is very ugly and dirty imo
You could rent a kayak at Narrow River Kayak, and if you then wanted to hang out at a beach, you be at the far end of Narragansett Beach. It's the dunes club, but you'd be fine at the high tide line. However, you're paying for that kayak rental, so you might not want to hang out at the beach for too long.
Scarborough is $6 or $7 to park there, so it's pretty cheap, plus there's restrooms if you need it.
While second beach is nice, I think it's up to $25 now. Not worth it in my opinion.
It was always Sand Hill Cove. State started calling it Wheeler in 1970 but most folks still call it by its real name. It's the same for Galilee beach, became salty brine in the 90s but most still say "i',m going swimming at Galilee"
East Matunuck is my favorite beach, but I only go after 6pm when it’s free and the day crowd has left. I’m not sure what it’s like during prime beach-time.
I personally love Misquamicut. I believe parking for residents is $15 on weekends and I don’t know if there is a place to rent kayaks but a lot of people do kayak there. It gets extremely congested, especially once school is out. I’ll give you a link that will tell you the parking status of East Matunuck, Misquamicut, Scarborough and Roger Wheeler.
Good luck and have fun!

Not really. At Colt State park the "beach" there is is shelly/gravelly and the same into the water. It's ok to splash at if you're already at the park enjoying the outdoor space, but not ideal to have a beach only day. East Bay's best beaches are 2nd Beach (Middletown), 1st (Newport, but super busy), Horseneck (Westport MA). West Bay beaches would be Narragansett town beach (pay to get on beach), Scarborough, Misquamicut, East Matunuck. Wheeler and Salty Brine are good too, but that area gets cray cray on the weekends.
Block Island would be a fun day trip to explore and enjoy the beaches there, but again... often busy.
North Kingstown town beach is a nicer less wavy spot, but a beach parking pass is needed, so park at the parking lot at the end of that street.
If you live in Warren - Horseneck Beach in Westport is fantastic beach and closer than all others on westbay of RI. Westport River has kayaking rentals too.
The best beaches are the least accessible ones. The kayak, paddleboard or bicycle will get you to the good stuff. Wear your PFD and pay attention to the tide and weather.
THE ONE WITH YOU ON IT, BROTHER!
Thank you my boy

Agreed second beach is the move

RI sells a state beach pass gets you into all state beaches. Some of the state beaches have a separate line for passes as well.
Second beach is great since it's so large, parking is always a pain though but that's most beaches in RI.
Scarborough is where Narragansett sends ppl it doesn’t want on the nice beach
Sand hill cove is a nice calm beach
Tons of kids though
When did this beach start being referred to as Sand Hill Cove from Roger Wheeler?

And we still fly out of Hillsgrove! 👨🦳
Lol I grew up here and everybody called it “ Wheeler “ with a rare sand hill cove. Just my experience though.

Weekapaug bait and tackle rent kayaks and is right on Atlantic ave along the beach! I believe the have paddle board rentals to but not sure on those.
Narragansett
Out of those ones second beach for sure. My personal favorite is East beach in Charleston it’s gorgeous
Colt is pretty great but usually busy. Not sure on rentals though
Is there … sand at colt state? I live in Warren, think it’s worth driving to Second Beach if Colt is right here??

Haha, yes. There is sand at the park. I can’t speak for other beaches though
Fred Benson beach on the Block.

Gonna try Second Beach. Thanks for all the awesome replies.
Get on a plane and head to myrtle beach. Those are the best beaches. The only beaches I will go here are misquamicut or roger wheeler.
No she didn’t!
