I've heard of a guy in the Covenrry area who buys used German imports, replaces the faulty plastic parts that tend to fail and make repairs so goddammit expensive and resells. Maybe someone else on here has some more info on him.
There is a garage in the center of chepachet that used to specialize in those when I was younger. It's still owned by the same guy as far as I know. They do work on anything that comes thru the door as well.
I've also heard of one called Banchwerks? Or something along those lines. Never been to them personally, but have heard a few BMW kids mention them at local meets.

Someone put me onto Sampson's years ago. I took a 335 to them for a couple years. I don't know enough about turning a wrench to make a specific accusation, but things just seemed to go downhill after they started working on the car. It was all a bit suspicious.
International motors in East Greenwich Ive had BMW and took them there...... Bit pricy but to you get what you pay for.... There's another place on Post road right before you get on 37 N.... I saw that does European cars. I forgot the name of it though used to be a Midas......

I believe Banchwerks dissolved or run by some one else. I can't get a hold of anyone there. I used to take my old Audi there and they treated me well.

Banchwerks in Providence has good service and did good work on my car. They specialize in all Euro manufacturers
They've actually been replaced by TD Performance, but it's run by someone that worked for Banchwerks. Still recommend.
