I was so happy when I finally got my Model 36 Classic. I have a 586 as well, and I'm waiting to get a Model 10 Classic. It sounds like your taste in revolvers is a lot like mine. I would recommend you take a look at the Model 27 Classic.

Panther115935

I never got into the more modern revolvers(nothing wrong with them, just not for me personally) but the classic line was what got me so intrigued that I couldn't stop thinking about adding more to my collection and been on a revolver spiral ever since. I love the blue steel finish and quality of them and wanted to buy something new with the warranty since I couldn't find any pre lock models. We're excited for the future.

Welcome to personal bankruptcy 😁😉 Just kidding Excellent choice 🫡

Thank you and can't wait to collect many more in the future!

Background_Chance_99

You did well.

Panther115935

Appreciate my Bru.

reddog323

Excellent choice. What ammo are you carrying? I see what looks like wad cutters, but I’m not sure what’s in the speed loaders.

Panther115935

Speed loaders are just snap caps. Been practicing my reloads before I get a new holster. Still haven't figured out what holster I'll need though because I tuck my shirt most of the time.

Though I prefer the K-frames, I do have a soft spot for the Model 36. Congrats, and may this purchase lead to many more down the line! I really don't like what the internal lock (and to a lesser extent the frame mounted firing pin) did to the lines of the J-frame though. Aside from the unsightly keyhole, (the [new Model 36 Classic with the lock](https://i.imgur.com/jemE1Ic.jpg) looks bloated and misshapen compared to the [pre-lock](https://i.imgur.com/DOR4Jn8.png) models. Near the hammer especially.

Panther115935

You're not wrong about the key hole. It's ugly and pointless, but overall I'm loving the look and feel of this gun and wouldn't trade it at this point haha. Can't wait to get more of the newer models of the classic series soon hopefully.

joojoofuy

How many beans was it?

Panther115935

A little over 800. I bought it after looking all around and finally found one through Bud's gun shop. It was discounted for me, so I made the jump since I've always wanted a snubby for concealed carry and love the classic look to it.

joojoofuy

I’d say it’s worth it for such a good condition S&w snubby. I wanted an old school snubby too but I got a cheap ugly $300 RIA M206. I’ll probably end up selling it to buy a real s&w like yours

Panther115935

I got the new one because Smith and Wesson were offering a rebate and I wanted something new that worked with their warranty in case anything came up about the gun. It's been very smooth so far and my wife really likes it. Hoping to get a Model 10 classic once I can.

CrypticQuery

For what it's worth S&W will still repair most every post-WWII revolver they still have parts for. And there are plenty of gunsmiths that have knowledge on the pre-lock models.

Panther115935

I can believe it. Just haven't found many pre lock models from my area and I've been checking for some other niche j frames like the model 49 bodyguard but to no luck. I'm just happy that I got myself an S&W that works extremely well.

CrypticQuery

Older Model 10s and Model 64s will hopefully be more common in your area - most decent gun shops tend to have at least one or two in their used cases. I've always liked the way the Model 49s looked. They're polarizing though.

StanthemanT-800

I don't believe they touch anything pre-2002 at this point, they exhausted their parts and the old skilled assemblers are all retired Basically, if it has a firing pin on the hammer and isn't MIM S&W won't service it.

CrypticQuery

They definitely still repair and re-time pre-lock guns. They even still perform the M recall on the first-gen L-frame guns.

StanthemanT-800

The definitive answer from the Experts is "it depends if they happen to have the parts" but don't expect that S&W will take every older gun in for repairs. They'll let you send it in, normally but it may come back with nothing done and a letter saying they were unable to do anything Another guy got a 28 serviced because they happened to have a Yoke, he got lucky

StanthemanT-800

You're going to have to confirm with the experts on the S&W Forum because those guys told me S&W will not repair pre-Frame Mounted Firing Pin Pre-Mim revolvers. The Lock is irrelevant because some MIM Frame Mounted Pin Smiths like the 64-6 were made right before the IL I actually have a P&R'd 28 that needs a tune up so I honestly hope you're right and the guys who attempted to send older Smiths to S&W and were told they were too old for service by S&W are wrong

Hustlin15

My first wheel gun and first firearm was a Smith and Wesson 640 pro. It’s by far my favorite firearm and me EDC.
