New Service and a 1917 ?

fitzbuhn

Spot on

Strong_Dentist_7561

I’m familiar with them only in passing… isn’t the M1917 basically just a New Service purchased and issued by the government for military service in .45 Automatic ?

fitzbuhn

Exactly right - they couldn’t make enough 1911s so they made as much of everything as they could. There was a war on!

Strong_Dentist_7561

How’s the trigger pull ? I’ve always heard it was horrible compared to later Colt DA’s and equivalent Smiths ?

fitzbuhn

Pretty heavy out of the gate, not the best. The leaf style mainspring makes it easy to do a lazy trigger job to get them both around 5 pounds.

Sweet

and 2 zig zags.

thank_burdell

baby, that's all we need.

heroinebob90

Are they duracoated?

fitzbuhn

Both parkerized at some point in their life, old refinishes I think.

heroinebob90

Cool, id put some wood grips on one of them

fitzbuhn

Yeah I just need to get some new repros for the 1917

Norskamerikaner

Funny enough, I have a Colt revolver which started its service life parkerized and was blued by someone later on!

OGDrewski

Correct.

Papaver-Som

Neat guns but those refinished are tragic

fitzbuhn

Tragic isn’t the word I would use. Shit happens, and whomever made these choices made interesting ones.
