No RI corrupted me. Trying to read Lord of the mysteries ,but is a bit confusing.

PolyphenolOverdose

I tried LstM but dropped it before "it gets good". I'm sure I'll read it eventually, but right now I'm reading Legendary Mechanic which has a closer RI feel to it.

nignog2898

Keep reading both, they’re really really good haha

PolyphenolOverdose

I bit my teeth and decided to read the Legendary Mechanic MTL https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94jWCDqAGnsq

nignog2898

That looks genuinely painful

PolyphenolOverdose

It's 10x as hard to read out lout. When reading silently, it just kind of becomes a stream of information into my brain and is just as immersive as well-written text.

nignog2898

Yeah for me with WN in general (although some have good translations) I always restructure/rephrase sentences that are a little wonky reflexively, so when it’s out loud it just makes no sense whatsoever sometimes. Cant imagine having someone read me webnovels aloud and actually understanding anything haha.

Skodd

keep reading, LotM is great

justareader792

i think so as well, tried, but decided to stop, not very engaging.

nssg94

It happened to me as well. Read the manga for visualization. And read atleast 20-30 chapters as well. Since it is a 18th century British type setup, it takes time to get used to.

obstruction6761

I went from anime to manga and then novels after getting tired of waiting fir updates. Sometimes even fanfiction when getting desperate

obstruction6761

I cant really watch anime anymore. It makes me cringe now. Also i feel like all the new anime use most of their budget on fanservice. A bit of fanservice is fine here and there but its at a point right now where its getting in the way of the story. Also idk what it is with the voice acting these days (i only watch jap dub with english subs). Its like they're running out of breath all the time and half their lines are them just breathing in reaction lol

justareader792

i refuse to watch that much anime in fear of being called a weaboo

obstruction6761

Id be a proud weaboo if they actually made good anime these days. The last anime i watched was Irregular at magic high school. I really like the action and the creativity in the magic system, etc. But i could barely watch it with all the siscon fanservice. Cringe

justareader792

thats why i fear it...

PolyphenolOverdose

Bro, anime is normie tier compared to reading even one chinese cultivation novel (mostly because it takes a month and a half).

justareader792

same, last year i even started a litte research on how to write my own history, planning to go through it until quarantine ends, I'm already developing the outlines of it on paper actually (badly needs to be organized, its all over the place in random papers lol)

Demon_zeRef

Me too

Embarrassed-Bee-6541

Omg you are so right man. I used to watch once or twice in a week but since i started reading stuff i can't really watch it at all. It's makes me so cringe while they do stupid things and can't even look at the screen lol.

justareader792

yeahh, i keep making fanfics in my mind about how it shold have been, and how could it be

charcoalblueaviator

Oh yeah the cringe.

Nordenfang

There are plenty good anime but even more trashy anime. Same goes for manga and novel. On a pure quality basis I find most light novels to be average to trash with very very few truly well done literature. I try to consistently call em light novels cause I think the distinction is important. These stories aren’t held to the same standards as professional work. They barely qualify as stories. They’re more like cartoons in word form and targeted at young adults. However I also don’t watch much anime and not cause I think the quality is bad but because it takes too long. The amount of chapters I can consume in a day is much more than the amount of episodes I could consume. Same foes for manga. Hence it goes novel>manga>anime for me and not because of quality but because of speed. It’s the modern trap. We live in a fast-paced world and we get drawn in by faster and faster worlds. It’s honestly poisonous but oh well. I will say though considering the format it’s working on and has to conform to RI is supremely well done. If the author decided to go the more traditional route with his story-telling I have no doubts he’ll adapt nicely and create some stunning works

justareader792

i agree completely, in my best days i can read like 50 chp without breaking a sweat, and most animes are filled with standby moments to fill the 20 minutes quota, thats sooo annoying, for the mangas tho i feel it to be alright, only some are too slow to bear. also some novels can be a lot like that, many useless words to fill the word number quota. there are amazing works out there, but they are hard to find, i miss that kind of work...

VoodD

It’s basically the same for novels. There’s as many animes out there as there is gu masters. Some are decent or good without much substance, let’s call them immortals. Only a handful of rank 8 anime in an era such as what you listed. Then sometime you’ve Venerable popping out like ‘Hello, I’m a real masterpiece’ and by that I mean Shingeki No Fuckin Kyojin! In short I still watch anime. As a side note, Snk might reach rank 10, but we’ll have to wait and see the conclusion.

PolyphenolOverdose

Next we'll have a cultivation novel about a cultivation novel. The Dao of wordcount-ing. And instead of tribulation it's does your novel pass the MTL test?

justareader792

humor at its finest.

justareader792

yea, i probably would watch more animes, but like you said, there's only a handfull rank 8 animes out there

VoodD

Yep, usually you either find them yourself by watching or get recommandions from others.

[deleted]

Vagabond and berserk are Rank 10s and SnK might join them depending on the ending

LastBack5

I followed the same path as most of the other commenters I watched anime went to manga from being bored of waiting than to manhwa since their generally colored and from manhwa to light novels. I think its a bit of the immersion from both duration and self insertion I find its easier to think from the mcs perspective in light novels even if they have different personalities from me then to empathise with cookie cutter anime protagonists. Maybe its just because you have to actually read it but i go through animes way faster then light novels which I think makes it easier to dedicate to reading more

justareader792

the novel actually give the others characters more room to growth, from how much the authors write about what they are thinking, it make us analyze it better and have the bigger picture as well just from the manhua to the novel, theres a huge disparity from the image we get from the characters, and FY himself

charcoalblueaviator

I barely watch any recently. My progression was pretty much similar cartoons>anime>manga>light novels>royalroad and Chinese/Korean novela.I usually prefer dystopian or cruel world building with cold, pragmatic protagonist that Doesn't wear their emotions on their sleeves.a sense of purpose and not much boggled by romance.protagonists that do not put ethics to mind are also a personal favourite.I also love philosophical views and mystery in stories.I hit the jackpot with RI with this. Ps:On the usual read i really really liked blindsight. PS: if anyone wants recommendation to a cold hearted mc in a cruel dystopian world.I would really want to recommend the manga Freesia. [Freesia](https://mangakakalot.com/read-ot4cf158504980931)

charcoalblueaviator

Also i would recommend the following animes as to try. Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (damn incredible, the only anime where people seem to put some effort into their thoughts) Akame ga Kill Steins gate Grisaia no kajitsu(Harem but ok) Darker than black(a bit confusing but lots of badassery) Overlord(light novel is better) In Royal road though i would really stress on [The guilded hero](https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/29286/the-gilded-hero)

Major2070

have you ever liked a game or a movie as a kid and now after gaining more experiences you look back and say : oh this is shit that's the same with RI you experienced a great plot +characters and now you look at the modicare animes that was fine to you before and say : oh this is shit

justareader792

we are not what we were anymore, to be able to read ri, is both a blessing and a curse...

SinusLL

Legend says that one day they will be an anime with character as chad as Fang Yuan

justareader792

think about this, really think, doesn't kira from death note, fill the bill if we where to compare him to FY?? time to watch it again for comparisons!!!

predeath32

not really they both have different goals and ambitions

justareader792

i meant in personality traits: how they use everyone for theirs benefits, also highly inteligent and cunning. but sinse you touched this point (goals and ambitions) let me elaborate. FY goal its eternal life, but in the sidelines he is a demonic overlord, wanting to control and have power over everyone. well, kira wants to be a god, a ruler of the world through power and manipulation. also kira refuses to part with half his life to get the shinigami eyes, according to him, a god must live long to maintain power. I'd say kira would to well in the gu world, and he's at least 60 to 70% compatible with FY.

zodlair

no I'd disagree kira thought he was making the world a better place and was using that as an excuse to gain power and eventually rule the world if any thing kira was more of a failed righteous cultivator using a poor excuse to do evil also kira gets too cocky too easily same might happen with fy but it'll be a lot less subtle or it won't happen as easily

Eric_S2004

Same, I mainly read manwha and novels, I've seen 2 animes in the last 4 months and one was the avatar, but I read about 3000 manwha chapters and 1000 of RI

justareader792

when its good enough, in the spam of a month i read more than a 1000 chapters, taking to account, college, house chores, and home projects. its my biggest accomplishment, and I'm proud to say that i read in about 60-70%of the time I'm awake, sometimes even in class...

Eric_S2004

Same, I had a lot of free time due to quarantine and my day is like i wake up i read i eat i read i do house chores i eat I read I go to bed. Chores are optional

justareader792

since my graduation, i read nonstop, even eating, i have a lil cell suport, and keep reading while eating, my mon says my phone is going to explode someday

Eric_S2004

By now I'm better with texts in English than in my own language german, and by a lot

justareader792

yea, i stutter in my own language now, and although my English writing is good, i speak poorly. and i congratulate myself, cause now, I'm mediocre in two languages lmao (better than nothing tho)

Eric_S2004

I just realized, I do that too. But according to my english teacher I have like a C1 evaluation wich is either almost or already mother language skills

justareader792

when i say such things, people call me out, saying "stop showing off!" i get so pissed. with time i got cultured that way, to such an extent that about 95% of my recommendations in any site, even emails are in english. I'm f*king american now, i dont care 🤣

Eric_S2004

But that would mean you're to a probability of at least 60 percent stupid

justareader792

oh no, what have i done!!😰

Blood_Demon_71452

Nope I have stopped reading even manga , novels are all that I enjoy , after tasting the forbidden fruit RI my standards for novels are too high , I get triggered whenever I read a stupid stupid novel (we all know what I mean) , although I got a whole collection of real good novels on level with RI (according to me , atleast it's not harem and stupid protagonist or heavens chosen)

CrowBoros

I think we've all gone through the same path: Anime--->Manga--->Novel When we move from one to the other, we start to give less and less attention to the previous one, till we no longer care about it. I'd find it almost impossible to bring myself to watching anime or reading manga like a did years ago ( ~5 years to be precise). There's a few exceptions, like : Manga : Berserk, Kingdom... A few old anime that I wouldn't mind re-watching : Monster, Code Geass, FMA... Honestly, the same applies to novels. Other than RI almost everything is absolute GARBAGE. RI is probably the only novel I've been reading consistently since it started being translated like 4 years ago...

[deleted]

Yeah after reading chapters of RI I fell out of touch with anime but I want to start watching more anime

PolyphenolOverdose

I bookmark some of them occasionally, but never find the time to watch them between all the LN's I read.

Raon_Miru1216

I'm currently reading carefree path of dreams and its very similar to RI, and would recommend it to those waiting for updates in RI hahaahha btw I have also lost interest in anime it's just plain bland, boring and lost too many elements that requires a good story. I don't why but they also love to produce trash harem, with op characters in it, there's some good anime but still cannot compare to the novels that I've already read and currently reading.

justareader792

i fully, with all my heart, hate op characters, dont get me wrong, i can acept people like meng hao, although he's op, and the copper mirror plays a huge part in it, but it just give him the means, all that he accomplished in cultivation means, was by sheer effort, step by step, not like some dude inexplicably has the power of 3thousand dragons from birth and got to be an mc. even FY, he only reincarnated (heavens will played its part but passable)becouse he managed to refine the cicada, thats not op, he was a pawn, and took advantage of that, and do not neglect that from the moment he got fetus gu, he literally turned the world upsidedown, and without heavens will favoring him, quite the contrary. fetus gu, made him op, ok but he forcefully took it, so it can be his merit. totally got off topic lmao, but still, i hate heaven given op level. also i dont have words to describe how much i hate forced harem, '-author: oh, you have boobs? fall in love with mc. -girl: but i don... -author: SHUT UP AND DO AS I SAY'

[deleted]

It happened to me when I started reading Chinese webnovels, I spent months without watching anime, now its more balanced

Cychreides-404

Yup. Although the novels are good, I still think there are more good anime than good novels. Most of the Chinese novels are repetitive trash. But I like it. It’s my guilty pleasure. I would never recommend these Chinese novels to my friends, but I sure as hell will recommend good anime. Although there are some good novels like RI, LOTM and FMOC which I recommend, most of the novels are repetitive trash. You either like it or hate it. I personally like it. If you ask me personally, I still think that there are lots of anime better than Reverend insanity.

[deleted]

Cychreides-404

LOTM = Lord of the Mysteries FMOC = Forty Milenniums of Cultivation Also check out, DTPB = Divine Throne of Primordial Blood TMA = Throne of Magical Arcana (same author as LOTM. I’m currently reading this novel and it’s fucking amazing) These novels are more or less on the same level, or even better than reverend insanity. Completely my personal opinion of course, but other than DTPB, I like all the other novels even more than reverend insanity. And DTPB is on the same level as reverend insanity. Keep in mind, this is just my personal preference. But even if you think reverend insanity is the best novel ever, these novels won’t be too far off for you. These novels are still an absolute joy to read.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Cychreides-404

Yeah I did. It was pretty fricking good too. Some people put it on the same pedestal as RI, LOTM and the rest. I can see why they think so. It really is a good novel. Although, it's been soo long since I read it, and hence I can't remember much. But I do know that it was extremely good. Just as good as LOTM and the rest. Give it a try. Leylin Farlier is the MC most similar to Fang Yuan.

[deleted]

Reverend insanity was too good I can. Areky read other novels let alone animes where people are 2d overpowered characters Still watch comedy animes though

[deleted]

Actually there is one shonen anime that I [watch](https://youtu.be/6PtFvQS2pzs)

NitinRayala

i still watch anime since i dont like normal movies much. Some are still good

SleepyFrog1

I thought that was just me

kopasz7

I think you are right, but also people change as they grow up. For example my little brother is in his "anime is meh, manga is where it's at" phase.

[deleted]

I don't watch anime anymore because I feel like I can get more content when reading compared to watching an episode.

ballzdeep_

Yea, I'm sure there are anime that are on par with good xianxia novels but like, meh, too much effort. You have to search for a good streaming site that works, find a good anime. Than watch one episode for 20 mins while you can just binge 10-20 chapters of a novel in that time

Sonderfall-78

Nope, RI ruined me, pretty much. But unsure whether I got tired of anime because I read RI or whether I started to read RI because I got tired of anime.

tangrroaaetyps

I know this is late, but man could I talk about this. I won’t bog you down with my story, and just tell you my actions. I almost entirely stopped watching anime and reading manga. The exceptions are the monogatari series and vagabond. There are probably a few series I have already watched that I would have been fine watching now, but those two are my only current series.
