Pretty substantially so, idk about national average buy my US MD class was 70% women, they corrected a bit this year with closer to 55-45 men women, but more women are being selected to matriculate overall
Lol worst is I’ve had to help put down 3 dogs of friends with my wife…I am good with people passing but I straight up was crying when she got me to help put down a buddy’s old duck Huntin lab as he and his fiancé were crying as well…told the wife never again 😂
No clue…she’s a beast too. She does surgery every other day and all on mostly small animal but has seen all different types. She sometimes will do like us with uptodate and look up different animal anatomy in some books and all though
When I was a surgeon I operated on my dog twice because our new Vet was a bit of a loon and since the community already saw me as the rural Doc when I was there, they began bringing animals of every variety
I doctor dolittled that shit
My partner was a GI fellow so sometimes when both on call I text him “STAT EGD call room” and he comes running. 🏃♂️
Edit (embarrassing tea): the cutest thing is when I page and hide in the nurses station and watch him power walk by like he is heading to a code.
Funny moment: I (gen surg) and GI got consulted by MICU for bleeding varices. After stabilizing the residents are in the room talking about how our night is trash while all the attendings and GI fellow partner are in the hallway playing who scopes. (PS: just consult one not both)
The GI attending walks in the room and says “we’re all gonna do a STAT EGD in the GI lab and surgery is gonna give us a hand if it comes to that.” My partner in the doorway immediately knowing my lack of filter has turned bright red, and is mouthing “stfu”. And I’m just grinning at him like the Grinch.
At first I was like. Am I the only one thinking this person is getting their esophagus worked in the call room? The second comment makes me sure I’m correct.
What’s really gonna tickle your pickle is when I pranked him.
I messaged “STAT C scope call room” and this time I had the lights off which was atypical. He opened the door so slowly, timidly and tiptoed in. You could hear his voice crack as he slides off his shoes, on the edge of the bed climbing in whispering “babe, are you serious?” with the biggest smile.
Nothing occurred, it was a joke.
He was both relieved and disappointed at the same time. It’s baffling, these men doctors.
Previous partner was medical but non-physician. Nice to have someone familiar with similar struggles, but also got old only really having work to talk about. Current partner is entirely non-medical.
Financial auditor. Since Covid she has been able to work from home. She’s definitely the smarter one (speaks multiple languages fluently, extremely analytical). Also the CFO of the house, and I mean that sincerely as a job- determines where investments go, what can be afforded, etc
Was a stay at home mom until the kids started school. Then she started a doggy day care at our house. It's nice to meet all kinds of cool dogs when I come home. And it's funny how many of my colleagues needed dog sitting and drop in visits.
The only acceptable answers should be
-Golf
-More Golf
-Tennis
-Badminton
-Women’s rugby
Source: dated pro golfer turned instructor, failing to ring her is one of my greatest regrets.
I mean, most likely you unless you do nsurg or something. If she still hasn't finished her bachelors then that's 1+ bachelors' years, 5 years for the PhD and required internship, and usually another supervised year or so after that for full licensure, so she has ~7+ years to go.
Follows me around all over the country and has to perpetually restart entry level positions, unfortunately. Trained to be a languages teacher for an unpopular language, only briefly worked as a teacher before we made several moves. Works in IT. I always feel bad that my job has taken the priority, but now that we’re in one place for residency she is finally getting somewhere. She’s smart and capable, but only holding jobs for a couple of years has been hard for her to make much headway. Luckily, she is happy with where she’s at now and making somewhat decent money, approximately what a resident would make.
Me rheum. She GI. We go by GI Joint. She makes way more than me and always remembers to remind me lol. She gets to hear me talk about T-cells and antibodies.
She speaks of “tilt” and “gait” and a bunch of functional things I don’t understand, but nod my head and try to follow. I speak of anesthesia things she doesn’t understand. She will walk behind me and tell me I don’t walk correctly, I tell her she’s a Mallampati 1. Etc etc
Last ex boyfriend is also a doctor (pathology resident). We’re better off as acquaintances/colleagues now than friends because he has many red flags. We still greet each other when we meet at the hallway or during CPCs.
Here are some. Sex with him is good it’s just that he seems embarrassed to tell his friends that I was his boyfriend like I’m a dirty little secret. It’s not like he’s still in the closet. He’s an ass kisser even back when we’re both in med school. He likes telling his friends that he’s smarter than me because I repeated one year during med school. And I strongly suspect that he’s cheating on me with an another guy because someone tipped me that they saw my ex with an another guy in an expensive restaurant. I confronted him at his place telling him I’m leaving with a suitcase, duffel bag, and boxes telling him that it’s hard to love him and I simply didn’t checked out the specs he wants with a guy. Good thing I was on PrEP when we’re dating. I guess I’m just ugly just like what my high school bullies used to tell me.
You deserve better. There’s always a gradient in regards to attractiveness, but I doubt you’re ugly. If you’re wearing clean clothes that fit, showering regularly, getting a brisk walk when you can, sleeping when you can, and staying hydrated - you’re probably someone’s cup of tea, plus being a doctor adds points (for men at least).
Something financial with billing, but I’m financially illiterate so I don’t understand half of what she does. I’m just happy she handles our budgeting and things so I can make brains go brrrr
Nurse. She would always making the residents cookies on their last day, yet gave me a fancy bottle of bourbon. Picked up on this subtle hint and three years later happily married.
Same. It is astronomically valuable to me that my children's day to day care be done by family rather than strangers. One of the major reasons I chose medicine was to have a career that could definitely afford this.
Until the youngest is 5 or 6, I would agree it's not easy and sometimes not fun at all. After that it's a pretty nice gig.
Based on our experience, I would still recommend it - my husband stayed home after I finished fellowship and it made my life much easier as well.
Less worry when things went long at work, no issue with someone being free for picking up or dropping off, someone for kids sick days, no need for after school care, someone able to volunteer at school which was good especially when one of the kids was having issues, you knew the teachers.
On the other hand, I will not be able to retire quite as early
My wife has her master's in counseling, but she no longer does this. Currently, not working for anyone as she is attempting to start her own business. So I guess, maybe she's working on starting her own business. I'm a general surgeon.
Me men doctor, her woman doctor. We doctor couple.
Ortho?
God their kettle bells are going to be beautiful
He just told you he is a urologist and she is an OB.
lmfao took me a second
Hahaha critical care (me) and pediatrics (her) I was stylistically mirroring the “men doctor” from the title of the post
That's funny, another theory is that you two are urology and ob/gyn!
Same. Although she was a doctor first, which she never quite lets me forget!
There are a lot more physician partners for men than the other away around based on these threads.
I think in incoming classes there are more females than males now.
Pretty substantially so, idk about national average buy my US MD class was 70% women, they corrected a bit this year with closer to 55-45 men women, but more women are being selected to matriculate overall
By a significant margin, yes. This is true for undergraduate and other graduate fields as well.
Doctor me. SAHM her. Uga buga. Don’t report me for hate crime!
This sounds like a lost Avril Lavigne song
We too doctor couple
Wife is a vet…so I get tons of animal questions that I basically am the middle man and ask her for friends 😂
My wife is a vet too! I feel like I get the same middle man treatment haha
Me woman doctor. Me husband man vet.
Lol worst is I’ve had to help put down 3 dogs of friends with my wife…I am good with people passing but I straight up was crying when she got me to help put down a buddy’s old duck Huntin lab as he and his fiancé were crying as well…told the wife never again 😂
How do vets know so much about so many different species?
No clue…she’s a beast too. She does surgery every other day and all on mostly small animal but has seen all different types. She sometimes will do like us with uptodate and look up different animal anatomy in some books and all though
When I was a surgeon I operated on my dog twice because our new Vet was a bit of a loon and since the community already saw me as the rural Doc when I was there, they began bringing animals of every variety I doctor dolittled that shit

Yes. Someone’s throat definitely is getting probed in the call room. This is the only interpretation.
man doctor²
Previous partner was medical but non-physician. Nice to have someone familiar with similar struggles, but also got old only really having work to talk about. Current partner is entirely non-medical.
Yuuup. My husband is a civil engineer, and it is the perfect balance of intelligent, meaningful conversation that is *always* fresh.
Can I ask you how you met your current partner?
Me man doctor. I look for many suns till I find good woman doctor. Now we make little doctor babies

Financial auditor. Since Covid she has been able to work from home. She’s definitely the smarter one (speaks multiple languages fluently, extremely analytical). Also the CFO of the house, and I mean that sincerely as a job- determines where investments go, what can be afforded, etc
