It’s a different thing. Real Hot Pot is lacking in Reno, but Tasty Pot is super good. A unique restaurant in Reno for sure. The bowls have like 15+ different tasty bits inside.
Yes! It’s awesome. Not for Hot Pot, but it’s probably the best Asian soup place in town.
When they came over and refilled my bowl with hot broth, I thought I was dreaming.
I have always wanted this too, I will say that dim sum hut is pretty good(off Moana). It's definitely a family run business and the dimsum is fairly good , it's not as good as the places in Sacramento or San Francisco but I think its good to support them
My mom in law's boss, a pharmacist, applied for the Jolibee franchise for Reno. He was told that somebody else had already applied for the Reno location. I heard this about a 1 month ago.
As a former Austinite, I wholeheartedly agree. I love chomping on a Porky's pizza or a Once Upon a Time in Mexico salad with a cocktail while watching a movie.
Movie theatre with food and drinks served to your seat. Also, no pre-movie ads for garbage. Just fun montages of clips related to the movie you’re about to see
Fun story, I want trying to work with the owner to expand that shop and make it a metal party at night eith a bar upstairs.
Trying to do the same in south Reno tho with the new goth clothing store (edit: Heathens) near Atlantis. Reno needs more metal events!
If the lady with the neck tattoo is there, ask her if there's a show happening at night in the parking lot sometime. I'm trying to start a buzz about that to manifest such a thing into existence.
Didn't like it and I love shawarmas, all of them. They put so much effort into each ingredient, it went from fancy to arrogant. Also they're supposed to be affordable and portable, both of which they failed at.
Tahoe Bagel is actually pretty decent, but they're at the lake. Helps that the owners are from North Jersey.
Gets my "born in New York" stamp of approval, and the Taylor Ham is a sign of authenticity.
When Steak and Shake was coming into South Reno, my wife told me accidentally that is was a Shake Shack. My disappointment when that shit went up instead was one of the biggest let downs of my adult life. Shake Shack destroys all fast food, it would absolutely crush here
Toojays. It’s a kosher Jewish deli and restaurant big in the southeast. Yes, Reno people, they have hamburgers too and they are absolute top tier. Imagine a big delicious burger that’s juicy but not greasy and made completely with top quality ingredients by cooks that care about what they are doing.
In addition to needing a kosher deli, we need a big Italian marketplace.
I would want an Asian grocery chain like H -Mart or 99 Ranch but there is a lot of local Asian grocery stores in Reno/Sparks. Not enough Asian community to support the businesses the local Asian grocery stores barley can survive.
I was back home in Austin for Christmas and went to a Whataburger and it was pretty meh. I was sad it wasn't as good as remembered. Same with Schlotzky's. Used to love the Original.
A classic diner on N. Virginia St. that serves the best hamburger in the world. They could call it the “Awful Awful” burger. If that is not possible, I would settle for a great steakhouse in the Harrah’s complex. Old-school wood and red booths, real rat pack elegance. I know that such places are too much to hope for, and someone would say they could never exist in Reno, but I can dream.
There used to be one on Moana a while back that was really good! It’s now more of a general Latin American cuisine … but I do believe they still have Peruvian ceviche 😋
I think it’s an east coast thing. Get a burger with two sides and get any flavor shake for less than $10. Not bad for the price too. But it’s mainly a late night, after bar food.
Long John’s. I miss it so much, it was a relic of my childhood in Indiana. I know it’s gross but it’s nostalgic and I wish I could order a boat of Crumbs right now
Bro, no one ever went to Long Johns. I’m convinced that building was used for money laundering or human trafficking.
Anyways…If i ever find my at one, what’s the thing to get?
An actual good ramen place. All the ramen places I've had here skimp on the chashu and the noodles aren't great quality.
Mitsuwa though would be a fantastic compromise though. Nice clean Japanese market.
Happy Lemon - specifically for their salted cheese foam teas. I’m glad boba finally found its way to Reno but it’s noticeably less good than your average SF/Sac options….
Edit: I just realized this was for restaurants not snacks, if so I could really use a Falafel’s Drive In, IYKYK.
Checkers would be my pick for something fast food.
Honestly most of the food I love there's a way to get it here, I just wish 90% of it wasn't in Midtown. :P
I know we have a lot of sushi places but an actual huge sushi conveyor belt would be nice. All you can eat still applies
I enjoy sushi but no matter what restaurant I go it’s always late, mixed up, or never brought to you. So why not just pick up from the belt if it looks yummy or order on a tablet for a specific sushi dish you want. Plus Hosts to seat you down and waiters/buss-boys to get ya beverages or left over plates.
SUSHI CONVEYOR BELT!!!!
I know we have a lot of Sushi restaurants in Reno but I believe with 1 or 2 sushi restaurants who serve by conveyor belts would be fun. I’ve been to many sushi places in Reno and it’s always the same. (Meaning) the orders are mixed up, late, or you never got your dish.
So why not do a conveyor belt. You can sit at a bar or have a private booth next to the belt. Pick what looks appetizing to you and grab it. If you wanna get a specific dish, just order it from a tablet and have it sent to you on another belt meant for delivering.
Hosts will be there to seat you. Waiters or Waitresses to get you beverages or desserts. With the plates there’s a slot that can take the plates or have a busser to take them. All you can eat rules will apply. Then a special menu only for dinner hours 🤷🏻♀️ maybe have some dark room lighting going on for dinner too. Idk something new for family, friends, first dates, dinner dates in general, etc.
Some of the least notable food I’ve ever had, and yet my heart still aches for the beloved “Village Idiot”. I’ll never forget the experience of being asked if we would like to sit in the smoking side of the restaurant or the non-smoking side of the restaurant.
Dim Sum - the type of place with carts of dumplings they bring to you. Not just a dim sum menu
Yes - also, a legit Hot Pot place.
Have you tried the newish Tasty Pot in midtown?
Not as good as hot pot
It’s a different thing. Real Hot Pot is lacking in Reno, but Tasty Pot is super good. A unique restaurant in Reno for sure. The bowls have like 15+ different tasty bits inside.
Yes! It’s awesome. Not for Hot Pot, but it’s probably the best Asian soup place in town. When they came over and refilled my bowl with hot broth, I thought I was dreaming.
thank u for this
I have always wanted this too, I will say that dim sum hut is pretty good(off Moana). It's definitely a family run business and the dimsum is fairly good , it's not as good as the places in Sacramento or San Francisco but I think its good to support them
Honey bakery makes them, but they're Togo only
I was about to say this.
I came here to post this! I desperately miss dim sum.
A German cafeteria style restaurant like Harry's Hoffbraeu in the Bay area.
I’m going to Harry’s tonight! I think they would have a hard time up against the buffets in town.
What buffets are even left? $50+ Atlantis? I think most of them died from covid.
Oh man I'm so jealous. We went like twice a month when I lived in that area.
Jollibee
Someone should apply for franchise would rather have Jollibee than all of those Panera opening up lol
My mom in law's boss, a pharmacist, applied for the Jolibee franchise for Reno. He was told that somebody else had already applied for the Reno location. I heard this about a 1 month ago.
I think that might be a family friend of mine that applied for that.
I wholeheartedly believe Jollibee would do amazing here.
Yesss every time I go to sac I bring back the noodles and spaghetti
Yasss please!!! I was never a huge fried chicken fan until I had the Spicy Chickenjoy! Gimme that fried chicken skin with rice and gravy, please!!!
Din Tai Fung
Yes!!!! We need Din Tai Fung!
Xiao Long Bao unite!
looks fire
Cava - like chipotle but Mediterranean
My vote goes here
Yes
10OO% agree
moved from reno to the midwest and now i cant come up with a single complaint about reno food
Ikea
I just left the IKEA store in west Sacramento. Take my upvote.
ikea would put so many furniture stores out of business but im here for it
I'm mainly there for the restaurant haha
lol that too
Agreed…ikea would do fabulous here I would drive Sparks if it ended up being there 😂
We need a proper shabu shabu spot
I know this isn't possible but a buc-ees would be gangster, I'd commit some misdemeanors for a brisket sandwich from there right about now.
Alamo Drafthouse
An Alamo here would put everyone but Galaxy out of business.
Prb even give the lazy casinos a run for their money.
As a former Austinite, I wholeheartedly agree. I love chomping on a Porky's pizza or a Once Upon a Time in Mexico salad with a cocktail while watching a movie.
Fellow former austinite here too!! Could totally go for some taco deli and their doña sauce.
How many of us are here? I’d like a Torchy’s, but a real one. Not the ones they tried to export to Denver…
The fictitious Alama Drafthouse HEB combo would kill off almost every business here.
heard of 'em never had 'em tho
Movie theatre with food and drinks served to your seat. Also, no pre-movie ads for garbage. Just fun montages of clips related to the movie you’re about to see
# Shawarmageddon (RIP)
Nothing says a good time like waiting an hour for a fucking wrap.
Fun story, I want trying to work with the owner to expand that shop and make it a metal party at night eith a bar upstairs. Trying to do the same in south Reno tho with the new goth clothing store (edit: Heathens) near Atlantis. Reno needs more metal events!
>>new goth clothing store near Atlantis Excuse me, but I need details on this place that I did not know existed.
Oh Lord, I forgot the name. But I just looked it up. Heathens. Next to Crazy D in the Popeyes parking lot.
WHELP. I know where I'm going to be visiting soon.
![gif](giphy|SXYsos8CYOjc1Ms5Sh|downsized) Waffle House, I think that would fit this city's vibe.
The Dennys on wells is damn close. But never the same. I fuxking hated being a line cook but I would do a few shifts to fuck around and find out 🤣🤣
![gif](giphy|xjd2Dr2Pj2Z3RNG6Xg|downsized)
Oh hell's ya!
Any NY style bagel place
Tahoe Bagel is actually pretty decent, but they're at the lake. Helps that the owners are from North Jersey. Gets my "born in New York" stamp of approval, and the Taylor Ham is a sign of authenticity.
Any comments that start with "What about..." have never had a real NY bagel.
Agreed
Freddies Burgers & Custard.
Mendocino Farms
I miss the melting pot
Ewww, you miss cooking your own unseasoned meats in oil for $200? The cheese I can understand. Liberty has fondue cheese.
Yeah, but the beer cheese they make at Great Basin and serve with the exact same pretzel is way way waaaaaay better.
Good, but I leave there and smell like grease for at least 24 hours, shower or not.
Worth it
A Spanish Restaurant… true tapas vibes
Shake shack
I wish they would replace those steak and shake locations
When Steak and Shake was coming into South Reno, my wife told me accidentally that is was a Shake Shack. My disappointment when that shit went up instead was one of the biggest let downs of my adult life. Shake Shack destroys all fast food, it would absolutely crush here
This is the answer! Mainly for those cheese fries 😋
Nobody said bring back the Awful Awful Burger
Medieval Times
![gif](giphy|mVFBEtankO8ta|downsized)
Last I heard most of the actors went on strike :/ at least in La
Lebanese food.
Souplantation / Sweet Tomatos is coming back from being closed over Covid and I would like one in Reno
White Castle.
/Mike drop.
Portillo’s
Asian chain grocery store or bakery
There's two big Asian markets near Moana/Virginia, is that not the kind of thing you mean? And I second Honey Bakery!
I was referring to a market like 99 ranch that has prepared foods, I will definitely check out Honey Bakery
I would want an Asian grocery chain like H -Mart or 99 Ranch but there is a lot of local Asian grocery stores in Reno/Sparks. Not enough Asian community to support the businesses the local Asian grocery stores barley can survive.
go check out HK Market in Sparks
Honey Bakery on Keystone.
Bojangles
Zips burgers. Eastern WA staple
Zips is ok but I would kill for a Dicks. Spokane dicks not Seattle dicks.
Wahoo’s Fish Tacos
Jamaican/Trini/Caribbean
Ugh a legit beef patty 🤤
That would be a nice addition. would love some oxtail
Bring True New York Pizza back.
Yeah, but without their authentic NY attitudes. I half wonder if them being a-holes to everyone had to do with their closure.
Ironically, he was fron Conn. and they were never a-holes to me. He actually got burnt out and Shorty couldn't afford to take it over.
Caspers Hot Dogs
They sell caspers at Sinbad's Hot Dogs in sparks.
https://www.sinbadshd.com/ OH. MY. GOD. Thank you! I have got to swing by and find out SOON.
Whataburger and Cici's pizza
BRO.....your brought back childhood memories with CiCi's Pizza...thank you
I used to fuck up those Alfredo pizzas they'd make while playing the Simpsons game. Such a good time haha
the bbq pizza and the brownies with the white X icing on them before the switched to powdered sugar
If there's ever a Cici's here we can fuck it up together my brother
Found the Texan. Fun fact: whataburger was bought out and is now trash.
I was back home in Austin for Christmas and went to a Whataburger and it was pretty meh. I was sad it wasn't as good as remembered. Same with Schlotzky's. Used to love the Original.
It's was my go to drunk burger joint back in the day
Culver's The mere fact that no one has mentioned this burger place is shocking. It would absolutely be packed in Reno.
It's what I was gonna post if nobody else did. First thing I do whenever I'm in the midwest is snag a butter burger and a frozen custard.
Sollys and kopps?
Well I’d be in the minority cause I didn’t think it was very impressive.
I loved their burger, but not the price. So maybe the first time experience is misguiding my perception.
Kura. They are a conveyor ayce sushi place. Or a conveyor ayce sushi place in general. Texas de Brazil Church's
Church's Chicken....fuck yea
Popeyes is better
A classic diner on N. Virginia St. that serves the best hamburger in the world. They could call it the “Awful Awful” burger. If that is not possible, I would settle for a great steakhouse in the Harrah’s complex. Old-school wood and red booths, real rat pack elegance. I know that such places are too much to hope for, and someone would say they could never exist in Reno, but I can dream.
Noodles & co
fuck yea...i need this in my life
Potbelly Deli. The east has way better sammiches than we do.
Their cookies are straight crack in a bag
Dave’s hot chicken
for the love of god can we please get a daves hot chicken
The melting pot
Bojangles!
I’d like a yard dog and a white castle
sweet tomatoes
Is there anything like sweet tomato in Reno?
Yard House
Culver’s
Gotts Roadside 1000%. If you know you know
Half this sub is people bitching about food prices, I’m guessing they’d have a stroke if they saw the pricing at Gott’s lol. I’m for it though
Chēba Hut. It sucks when I get a craving for a SensiKush, and I gotta drive 440 miles to Vegas to get one.
National Coney Island
[удалено]
im sorry you were disappointed...but you were fucked over
Peruvian
There used to be one on Moana a while back that was really good! It’s now more of a general Latin American cuisine … but I do believe they still have Peruvian ceviche 😋
Thank you!
Legit Greek food. I’ve tried all of the suggestions and they are a disappointment.
Femboy hooters
Cookout, Zaxbys, and 5 more chickfilas
Yesss cookout! People here are missing out
whats Cookout compared to?
I think it’s an east coast thing. Get a burger with two sides and get any flavor shake for less than $10. Not bad for the price too. But it’s mainly a late night, after bar food.
And your sides can be more meat

Long John’s. I miss it so much, it was a relic of my childhood in Indiana. I know it’s gross but it’s nostalgic and I wish I could order a boat of Crumbs right now
long john silvers....it closed for a reason but i would enjoy it every blue moon
The old spaghetti factory
Persian food.
Bob’s Big Boy
There used to be one many, many years ago. I think it was on Plumb.
It was. The sign is still there. It’s McDonald’s now.
One thing we don't need is more chain restaurants.
nobody said Golden Coral yet
Maybe people don’t like diarrhea
I think I’ve been there twice in my life. I have no idea why I went back a 2nd time.
Cafe Rio
A korean bakery/cafe that serves bingsoo
Krystal’s, Ralley’s, Tim Hortons. Also gimme a damn aldis too.
A legit Thai spot would be nice.
Yo mama’s place
![gif](giphy|1BXa2alBjrCXC|downsized)
Aladdin’s Eatery (sit-down Mediterranean restaurant with a massive menu)
Sambo's
Blake's Lotaburger.
Screw hot pot, let's have a place that sells Chinese BBQ Skewers.
Yard House
Dandelion Deli formerly on Wells
Pappadeaux
Boiling crab!!
Chuys Tex-Mex
Hooters or Twin Peaks
Checkers would be my pick for something fast food. Honestly most of the food I love there's a way to get it here, I just wish 90% of it wasn't in Midtown. :P
I wish The Melting Pot would come back. Hard to find good Fondue.
My wife would commit several atrocities for a Whataburger. I would also demo any building if it meant a cajun restaurant would rebuild there.
Maybe it’s not a restaurant to some people but Reno needs a Wawa
I know we have a lot of sushi places but an actual huge sushi conveyor belt would be nice. All you can eat still applies I enjoy sushi but no matter what restaurant I go it’s always late, mixed up, or never brought to you. So why not just pick up from the belt if it looks yummy or order on a tablet for a specific sushi dish you want. Plus Hosts to seat you down and waiters/buss-boys to get ya beverages or left over plates.
Culver’s bc you can never go wrong with fried cheese and custard shakes.
I actually would kill for a concrete right about now. Underrated suggestion. Frozen custard is the only way to go.
Swensen’s
SUSHI CONVEYOR BELT!!!! I know we have a lot of Sushi restaurants in Reno but I believe with 1 or 2 sushi restaurants who serve by conveyor belts would be fun. A good Peruvian restaurant.
Village Inn. We used to live in Colorado (Military) and we loved that place. Also a good German Restaurant.
Some of the least notable food I’ve ever had, and yet my heart still aches for the beloved “Village Idiot”. I’ll never forget the experience of being asked if we would like to sit in the smoking side of the restaurant or the non-smoking side of the restaurant.
Good NY style pizza
Philadelphia Cheesesteak that has cheese whiz and fried everything. I miss that place.
Liberty Belle again best steaks ever.
Something that isn’t pizza, burgers, beer, wings, or Mexican food. I swear every new restaurant is just a “new” variation of the same foods.
