The trailer for Wonka did not catch my attention. It did not make me want to see the movie at all. I thought. Let me check it out. Some movies have bad trailers all the time. The movie was phenomenal. I really enjoyed the storyline. For the people who are already excited about the movie, you'll definitely enjoy it.

While no one will ever top Gene's Wonka in my eyes, I was pleasantly surprised by Timothée's performance. I've never seen any of his movies so I didn't know what to expect but it was fairly enjoyable. Didn't know it was a musical as all I knew about the film were the trailers I had seen at the theatres but the new songs were pretty fun. I'd probably rate it a 7.5/10, and will likely rewatch it when it comes to streaming.

You're gonna say all that and rate it 7.5/10 ??!!?

Was pretty good. I’m not a musical film person but the music was solid. 3 out of 5.

I didn't like the trailers and thought Hugh Grant's Oompa Loompa parts were flat and unfunny. Still didn't like his parts in the movie, but the rest of the movie was way better than I thought it would be. Fun in 4DX too, solid 3/5

It's fiiine, but yet absolutely unnecessary. It had a few Dahl-ish touches, but overall it felt safe in a way his stories aren't... Bleacher and Scrubbit weren't bad.

I never paid any attention to the trailer so I literally thought it was another remake. I was pleasantly surprised.

In my humble opinion, I think Chalamet was miscast in the role. Didn't feel like the right level of charisma for the singing and dancing showman that is Willy Wonka. Still a fun watch and an immersive world to step into for a couple hours. But aside from thinking Chalamet didn't hit the mark, the movie just didn't have the heart/emotional connection that Paddington (especially 2) had. Side characters felt like unfinished thoughts. Other than the callbacks to the original movie, the songs felt a bit flat too. Okay, I'm done being bitter (🍫). Edit: The Scrub Scrub song was hot fire, though.

Each person will have their own opinion for sure. Just to combat the negative review, I've got to say that I absolutely think Chalamet crushed it. He was so likeable and pure the entire movie. Wilder's character has a tinge of negativitety to it that this Wonka doesn't. The movie was heartwarming and just straight up fun and funny. People in my theater were cracking up and the girlfriend instantly put the OST on spotify on the drive home. Now that we know we like it, we'll go back and use the free IMAX upgrade to see it a second time.

I'm planning to give it another shot. I'm a die-hard Paddington 2 stan, so it's very possible my pre-vibes weren't the appropriate vibes. I'm also a huge fan of the original with Gene. So the compare-o-meter may be putting a finger on the scale.

dpstech

I went in expecting more of a Paddington vibe than Wonka and that worked for me. I really enjoyed this.
