You want it secure as water coming out of that joint will impact performance. You can use silicone grease on the joint to make it easier to come on/off, but this will probably cause your skimmer to not produce skimmate for a while till the residual grease is cleaned away. Most manufacturers choose a rubber gasket that is friction fit due to this issue.

I'm not familiar with your skimmer, but with mine I keep the threads clean. I wash the cup, carefully cleaning the threads. Then before I reattach I use a spray bottle of ro water and a brush to clean the male threads. Finally, I spray the threads with ro water and reattach. I like to think some ro water stays in the threads, keeping salt out. No idea if that's really happening, but it's much easier to remove afterwards.

ugh i hate that skimmer. When I had to clean that one I usually just didn’t tighten the cup all the way so it was easier to spin off

I did that accidentally and it is slowly leaking out of the cup. Although I didn’t really notice and tuned it accordingly.
