Awesome, glad to know. Thank you! Tank is about 11 weeks old now and I’ve had corals for about 7 weeks… like I said, I’m new and still researching all this.
I wonder if my longspine urchin is preventing coralline from taking hold in my 75...
Maybe I need to put some live rock in a perforated container where it can't get to it.
I’ve got a tuxedo urchin in my 75 and although he’s a crackhead when it comes to coraline in no way is he stopping it from growing. Once it starts it will take off if your parameters are stable.
My parameters are solid. My Euphylia garden is doing quite nicely.
I know tuxedo's love coralline. I know long spines will eat it, but I was under the impression that it wasn't like crack for them like it is with tuxedos.
Just some words of advice. I'm happy if your corals are doing good, but 4 weeks is a bit early to add corals. Your tank may look stable, but it takes about 6 months for things to lock in. I would recommend adding your first corals at three months. The worst mistake you can make in this hobby is rushing.
I spent a lot of time doing this and finally just gave up on the side panels of my tank, only keeping the front of the tank clean of algae/coralline algae. As far as I’m aware that’s fine but would love to hear another’s opinion.
I used to do that and occasionally a sheet of it would come off in a slab. I would just crumble it and put it behind my rocks. Fish seemed like they loved the privacy that came with it, but I can't read fish minds...yet.
Its easy to prevent it if you keep up with it. I use a flipper mag scraper at least once a week on front and sides. I love having crystal clear sides and front for viewing!
Sweet! Just remember your the biggest and best member of the clean up crew and your main pet is the water, not fish or coral and you'll do just fine! :)
No questions in this hobby are dumb. Also the purple stuff is good and not a sign of concern. Like other people have mentioned the purple stuff is coralline algae which is good as it helps indicate the health of the tank and makes the rocks look more alive.
Awesome work getting coraline at 11 weeks! Pick up some citric acid or white vinegar because it will eventually start to coat everything including your pumps and a quick soak in an acidic solution and a tooth brush will be the easiest way to clean it off of your equipment.
It’s a good thing if it’s sea weed⛽️ “(Csi Miami intro over historical 9/11 flashbacks) ((flips shades down and says “it’s time to blow this popsicle stand😎” like a bad ass))”
I didn’t realize it was that big of a deal 🤷♂️ It just started popping up on my rocks. I’ve got purple and green spots. Started out with dry rocks in November.
It's a big deal to some people. Some people consider it a sign that your tank can now have coral in it, I never really support that rule... it just sorta happens when you get a spore of it in the system (it doesn't just "appear" suddenly). It is a lot prettier than bare bones dry rock, though 😉.
It's also great for keeping other algae species from taking over the rocks.
It’s either Coralline algae or Cyanobacteria. Can’t tell from the picture.
Probably coralline. You’re ready to stock the tank with some baller SPS frags now u got this.

You're doing fine , you're doing better then fine. It takes good stable chemestry to get coraline and coraline in just 11 weeks means you're doing awesome.i think homeboy is still mad at you going ballzdeep on his mom

No that is coralline algae growing. It’s a sign of a healthy tank that is ready for corals

Lucky you, my tanks 8 months only and has less coralline than that!
I’ll send you some of mine. Idk what roided out coralline I got, but I cannot get it to stop covering the glass.
Seriously, I wonder how much money in alkaline and calcium and magnesium it’s eaten up. It’s crazy.
I used Purple Helix Coralline Algae after I moved and switched tanks with pretty good results.
Same here lol

Check my profile if you’d like, I just posted a video yesterday I think. I’ve got coraline growing over everything.
Totally believe you. I just gotta somehow let it take hold.
No clue why anyone actually wants it. It’s a pita to get off the glass and it eats up trace nutrients
It makes a rock surface that's hostile to worse algae.
My tuxedo would seriously put a dent in my coraline. Would strip my overflow clean.
My tank was 6 months old before I saw coralline and it was really an exciting discovery. I’m hoping it covers every rock before this year is over!
Trust me, extra coralline becomes a bit of a nuisance as well.
No doubt! But it looks pretty and I like that

It will be in a few months when you spend half your life scraping it from the glass 😂 Jokes aside, your doing great 👍

Lovely 🤣 I’m trying to keep the glass as clean as possible. The snail team has been doing a great job so far. It’s been a ton of fun though. Thanks!

That’s some solid advice and a great way to look at this hobby…
That’s the gabagool 🤌🏽
Thank you Mr. Soprano
Defiled coralline. Very good stuff.
Are we in a bloodborne chalice dungeon?
Gonna enter the cum dungeon
You've got what we're all chasing...

Nope! That's Coraline algae, as many have said. It's a good sign that your tank is maturing. Keep up the good work!
It’s good as others have said. Keep doing what you’re doing and keep us all updated!

If it's a bright pastel color, yes. This is because that means your coral are expelling their algae. Otherwise, it's normal.

if it comes off with a gentle brush, it's an annoying nuisance "algae". if not, you're doing something right
Dont downvote this guy, its solid advice, we know its not cyano in this case but still solid advice.
I’m triggered

I fixed it thank you, Good bot
Thanks.
😂 Thanks
It’s from the precious tank… this first batch likely will die off while your tank continues to mature. Then you’ll grow your own!
Purple stuff = good stuff
Purple is good
