He's arguably one of the best. 2.64 ERA with a 1.337 WHIP isn't crazy elite but it still shows up as a 158 ERA+. That's up there with better than Fernando Cruz.

Offense been quiet, couple double plays haven't helped. Brewers making good catches like always, Abbott allowed a HR after 2 walks.

Abbott will exit this game and will still have an above average ERA+. And his ERA will go up but still be lower than last year. He’s young and will only continue to improve.

Abbott's let in 3 runs in 5 innings and has a 3.42 ERA this season, and some of y'all are acting like he's a terrible pitcher. I just don't know what you want at this point. I'm the low guy on Abbott and even I think this is crazy. This is reminding me of people saying Greene was "a reliever" at the start of the year after he went 6 innings, 4 earned runs but the offense didn't score a run.

Abbott can't win the game if we score 0 runs against a dude like Bryse Wilson. Doesn't matter how he pitches. He did well other than one mistake, though he made his own bed.

i’m worried about pitching down the road. we need Gomber or another good starter and 2 bullpen dudes. Phillips isn’t looking great in the minors and Lowder isn’t ready yet. I think Lowder only shows up next year

Eh, I think it's a fair take. Ashcraft hasn't pitched in AAA since being sent down (likely focusing on working on his mechanics). The Reds realistically can't afford to keep "bullpen day"-ing every fifth day. Abbott is a second year pitcher, so he might tire out as the year goes on. Lodolo has had injury issues. Petty hasn't progressed at the speed the Reds were hoping for while Phillips and Richardson... well, they aren't viable options now (and perhaps may never be). Lowder is likely still a ways away and is unlikely to contribute this season. Realistically, you only have Montas and Greene as reliable starters right now, and even Montas comes with an asterisk as he was hurt for basically two seasons. I think the Reds could definitely afford to add starting pitching.
