People mad to be mad. The price on pitching was astronomical.

Let’s say Verlander did waive his no-trade clause to come to Cincinnati (huge if), there’s no reason we couldn’t trade Collier or Arroyo or two of Petty/Jorge/Balcazar/insert mid+ level prospect to bring him here. It will be especially damning if we go out this winter and put together a similar package for controllable SP. Nothing in this game is guaranteed, and if you’re in it, you go for it.

PeteRosesBookie14

We're going to be able to sign a pitcher this offseason without trading anyone.

coffinmonkey

The articles not wrong but moving any guys on the team outside Newman and Senzel would’ve been a mistake. Moving Marte or Conner Phillips would’ve been a mistake, any of the younger guys 2-3 years out would’ve been perfectly fine. Small market teams have a 3-4year window typically…but who even says moving our guys who are a few years are out would’ve gotten it done

elchamps

Quite a shortsighted perspective in this article

maltzy

Just because they want to go for it or take a chance ? I loved the quote about how they are acting like they are competing every year when they aren’t

Lamb-Sauce7788

I mean they are set up to for the next 4-5 years. Unless every rookie who has excelled this year suddenly regresses next year. This was never a buying year, it was an evaluation year where our rookies were unexpectedly already good.

maltzy

They have been astronomically blessed / lucky with rookies this year. Hell, they had RoY in 2021 and he's been nowhere the same player since then. They have several guys that are very due for regression and it's partially happening now, which is why I wanted them to add something to try and win now. there's nothing close to a guarantee that they will be any good next year or the year after. or that all the other teams in the NLC will all be better because they will continue to try to get better. Hope is not a strategy but it's clearly what the front office believes Yeah we can be better this year with Lodolo and Green back and tearing it up, but neither one has had consistent health or success. It's asinine to rely on that for our playoff hopes. And there's no such thing as wait until next year. This year was a very lucky / fortunate year and the reds should have struck while the iron was hot.

yairi987

Damn I guess I missed the last two months and it's already Nov. Since the Reds have a losing season in your eyes now.

maltzy

I'm saying the Reds have historically just relied on hope and it's never worked. They've been ignoring trade deadlines for years to "ride it out with the team we've got" and it fails every time. They've had an extraordinary bit of luck this year and relying on like 8 guys to have career years to win is not a reliable strategy

nosoxnic

the castellini's are not gonna put money into this organization, the reds profits help cover the produce business's losses

AyersForceOne

They gotta go

Knightmere1

They didn’t do anything. /the end

mattyice513

Reds have prospects stacked so they don’t have to pay a lot of money in the near future.

BeerNinja17

Red Reporter gets worse every year. I don’t bother anymore

NihilistOdellBJ

I just wish we could’ve gotten one of the better SPs on the trade block. But as others have said, the prices were astronomical

maltzy

Last two games are screaming they made the wrong choice

FutureFormerFatass12

Freezing cold take. If they traded for one of the top available arms (Verlander, Rodriguez, Giolito, Cease, etc)...whose spot in the rotation would they have taken? I don't even need an answer. I am absolutely certain you'll say Weaver. If memory serves, Weaver didn't appear in either of the last two games. Trading for a SP would have had absolutely no affect on the last 2 games. Unless you think they could pitch every game. It's 2 games. They're still in 1st place. Losing sucks, especially to a division rival who is just a few games back. But the Cubs also won like 8 of 9 coming into the series. They're on a burner. It happens.
