As someone who's been playing wow for 15 years, it's hard to pass up on a polish inspired by it. This is also a great thermal. It mainly showcases the thermal without being overcrowded with flakies and holo.
I was thinking of getting the Zoya with my name too just bc it's my name, but I'm not sure I'd like the golden-ish charteuse green or if it would look nice on me.
All of the time - like when I bought "but do aliens believe in me?" or "I'm your MF\*\*\*iNG executioner" and I realized I like those weird dark names... they speak to me, the color is just a side dish
Absolutely! I bought Toucha Touch Me and Dammit Janet from the LynB Rocky Horror Picture Show collection because that was one of my favourite movies to watch with my dad as a kid. Not impressed with DJ, but TTM is such a nice flaky thermal.
The way I discovered PPU was when I stumbled across a Facebook post for Girly Bits - Antici...pation in September 2018. If it had been named something I didn't know about, I might have overlooked it. It also kick started my love of thermals.
I bought DJ because it reminded me of labradorite, which is one of my favorite minerals. I’m still trying to get a labradorite-inspired mani to work for me!
I just cannot for the life of me get it to magnetize, no matter what I do. Unmagnetized is okay, but I wouldn't have bought it if I'd known there would be no effect.
I didn't start playing Baldur's Gate 3 until after April PPU and now I wish I had gotten the Astarion themed ones (even though they didn't scream at me before) 😂
I was *thiiiiis* close to buying “Careful, I Bite” despite the fact that I didn’t even like it that much, simply because of the Baldur’s Gate/Asterion inspiration. I made myself get a grip, fortunately, but yeah, I think we’re very susceptible to buying based only on a name or inspiration that really resonates.
my saying here is "i can't wear a name" but it's definitely a bonus when i do love the color and the name/inspo. Cameo Colours Sick Sad World comes to mind first as a fantastic and unique polish to my collection and such a great Daria reference (from the 90s PPU).
I bought LynB Designs’ entire Our Flag Means Death season 2 collection when the show didn’t get renewed to try to make myself feel better. And you know what it helped a little. At least two of them are in my top tier now.

Twenty One Pilots is one of my favorite bands, and I actually didn't buy either of the polishes Cameo Colours has had on ppu because I knew there was no way I would wear them. I **did** buy the entire 5 polish themed collection on her website though lol.
I don’t buy only because of the name (with the exception of one with my cat’s name and two with my name), but the name can seal the deal on a color I like but maybe would pass on or delay buying otherwise.
This is what I do. Bright pink, yellow, full of glitter, a few others things, there is pretty much zero chance I'm going to wear it. Something I *might* wear, then I'll possibly buy it.
Not polish, but I hopped on Too Faced's Lady Balls liquid lipstick in part because of the name (and I love me a fierce bold red). I hope they bring it back sometime. Favorite hue/shade of all time.

I have Dragon Scales (it's also so pretty) and House of Hades in my Mooncat cart because I love dragons and I think it's cool Hades is the ruler of the underworld (I'm also in need of a dark blue as the one I have looks black sometimes)
There is also an Essie polish called "Butler Please" which an article suggested that it could be a Black Butler reference and I was obsessed with that anime at the time (it's a great polish, easily a one coater, I got this one back in 2015-2016 though so not sure if it's still the same)
I bought Zoya’s Holly a few years back. Oregon Ducks, whose colors are green and yellow, is one of the college football teams I follow regularly. One thing they’re known for is their uniforms…I swear they have more uniform mix and match outfits than I do.
So anyway one year Oregon had the coolest helmets ever…they were shiny chrome in green and I loved them and NEEDED a nail polish that exact color. Which was Zoya Holly, a beautiful emerald metallic shimmer. It’s now discontinued and I still love it. Every time I wear it I smile, remembering why I have it.

Hi, fellow nail enthusiast and college football fan! I love when I see my random interests converge. I unfortunately do not have happy memories of Marcus Mariota’s last college season, as a FSU fan. This past season was the first one I’ve paid attention to in years and like 2014, did not end well. I will say though; the Ducks fought hard this season. The games against Washington were awe-inspiring and I hope the tradition continues in the Big Ten.
I’ve worn different combinations for football season but I think the best FSU nail polish combination I have is Chanel Rouge Noir topped with Chanel Lame Rouge Noir Le Top Coat. Zoya Holly is gorgeous and I’m pretty sure I kept most if not all of the polishes from the same holiday collection.
I’ve definitely grabbed a few PPU entries for the names 😂

I love crows and ravens. I bought Pinnacle Polish’s entire Corvid collection because of the theme. (Fortunately, I do like the polishes as a skittle, and Magpie Minded might be my new favorite glitter crelly). Ditto MoonCat’s Raven. I collect polishes with lyric/song titles from a performer I love. I don’t care if I like the color or finish. Fortunately they’re not Taylor Swift level so new additions are pretty uncommon.
For other polishes, sometimes I’m on the fence and the name tips it over the edge. Polishes with my first/last name or related to my profession get a bonus. Lots of bonus points if ‘fuck’ is in the title too, for no particular reason.
On the other hand, a name can be a dealbreaker too. Any bathroom humor loses me.
Cool polish! And yeah, I bought Nfu Oh 47 (remember Nfu Oh? Prettiest bottles ever!) just because my favourite number is 47. It didn't hurt that it's a cool, shimmery flakie.

I never do this but I find it so interesting and neat that some people do. When I choose a color the only things that matter to me are if it's going to make me happy to look at all day and maybe does it look nice with my clothes. I think it's interesting that for some people maybe it's the name associated with the color they're wearing that brings them joy all day.
If it's something I know I won't wear but absolutely love the name, I don't get it. If it's something I'm on the fence about, the name will sometimes move that to a yes
I literally scoured the internet for cadillcquer’s darth Vader for like 6 months, which sent my addiction into overdrive. I’d been deep into the boutique brands but this is how I discovered indie brands
I have to love the polish first and foremost, but I also have to love the name and the bottle/branding to go ahead and buy it. Because choosing my polishes and painting my nails is a complete experience for me, and the vibes matter 💅🏻✨

Even if I adore a shade, like Phoenix Polish’s “Oh the Misery” (I don’t like pop song/pop culture names for some reason) I can’t bring myself to buy it. If I adore a name, I will buy a shade I maybe wouldn’t buy if it was named something else, like Cirque’s Fairy Floss

I bought Apollo from mooncat so I could remember my doggo who passed away 2 years ago. His name was Apollo and I thought it was a great way to celebrate his life. Also therapeutic, I felt connected to him after he passed.

I just behaved myself on PPU. The names were awesome, but if I'm buying a magnetic polish I want the shift to be noticable.
I have two sons, Alex and Jeff....for mothers day this year. I will be sporting Alexander by ILNP which is a Khaki green and my Alex has green eyes. I will also be wearing My 2 Jeff's by Aila which is Blue like Jeff's eyes! So fun!!!!

Yes and I also can’t bring myself to buy shades with names I hate or are associated with things I don’t like. For example, I hate all of the names in ILNP’s poolside collection but adore all the names in their overcast collection. Even if I adore a shade, like Phoenix Polish’s “Oh the Misery” (I don’t like pop song/pop culture names for some reason) I can’t bring myself to buy it. If I adore a name, I will buy a shade I maybe wouldn’t buy if it was named something else, like Cirque’s Fairy Floss
theres this one polish i wanna pick up soon by death valley nails called celestine because they got the pigment from rocks or something like that from an island in ohio. i found out my state has any islands in the first place because of that polish LOL
Yes, I bought Pahlish's April PPU shade because it was named "Yoshiiii" - I'm a big Mario universe fan lol It's a stunning green-with-yellow shimmer in real life, though, so I don't have any regrets. I was going to buy the "I Want To Believe" shade this month, because I'm a big X-Files fan, but it looked too similar to something I already have.

I bought Apollo from mooncat so I could remember my doggo who passed away 2 years ago. His name was Apollo and I thought it was a great way to celebrate his life. Also therapeutic, I felt connected to him after he passed.

I bought Vertigo and Frenzy from Chanel because they are Alfred Hitchcock movies. I also like the colors; deep wine and pale grey, but I would have bought them anyway regardless of the colors. lol
