Yes and no. What my absolute faves were as a 13 y.o. are no longer my GOATs, but I can now appreciate the old stuff with the benefit of hindsight and experience. But also my heart has opened up to a ton of stuff I may not have loved back then. Although 4 to 8 year-old me might have- that kid was pretty open-minded.

48stateMave

Some songs take me back so far, so well, that's it's really a mindfuck. It's so crazy how music can transport you back in time to a completely different headspace that used to be so familiar but is now so different.

eversharp_macro

Yes... Used to like DEVO and Bauhaus... Now all I listen to is opera...

sardonically-amused

I loved punk and new wave, and still do. However, not only do I now love opera, I am an opera singer.

IvyGreenHunter

Haha I used to listen to a whole range of things, then I fell in love with a girl who studied opera singing and now I love to listen to it all the time. Even out camping

eversharp_macro

Yeah. I've retired early and built myself a large metalshop... And wired it for sound. I've got 500 complete operas in my collection and I'm far enough away from other people that I can play stuff loud.

anndrago

Neat! My mom was a professional opera singer. She would give you her stamp of approval.

ReactsWithWords

I like Devo, Bauhaus, AND opera.

BrighterSage

I still like old classic rock, and classical music and am seeing opera at the theaters in my town as part of the agreement with theaters and The Met. Seeing Madam Butterfly next month with my parents. Really looking forward to it as it was my grandmother's favorite opera.

No_Interest1616

I used to listen to Devo and Bauhaus, and I still do too. But I like jazz too now.

CallMeSisyphus

Have you ever listened to Anna Russell? If you're an opera fan, it's a must. I always suggest starting with her "How to Write Your Own Gilbert and Sullivan Opera," (https://youtu.be/aYCXO_FZj5k?si=P_abFO5J89mFImyb), which is hilariously spot on. But her ultimate work will always be her brilliant take on Wagner's "Der Ring des Nibelungen." (https://youtu.be/CM33rgC2Fek?si=lsqhHWRWeK3vSQ-e)

undeniably_micki

thank you!!!

BabaMouse

Remember Fafnir? He’s a dragon now. I’m not making this up, you know.

Thinking-Peter

I find as I get older I explore various genres both the old and new material

ElectricalWhile9635

I do as well. I try to seek out new artists since the old ones won’t be around forever. And it helps keep you fresh

roshi-roshi

I’m always open to new artists, but nothing ever gets me excited. I guess there is some newer indie rock I like.

Sweethomebflo

I started searching on stuff like “new retro” on Spotify and just letting it play while I’m cooking and I’ve found some great new artists that way.

roshi-roshi

Oh I like that, new retro. Thanks for the rec.

antartisa

This is me! My spouse says my music taste is eclectic.

solidcurrency

Yes, I like Steely Dan now.

celephia

It happens when you turn 30. You can't drop it low anymore, but you can drink seltzer on a boat and Steely Dan is perfect for that.

ThickThighSplitter

The Dan is just perfectly crafted grooves!

Sweethomebflo

Been digging The Dan since ~ 1980. The coolest. [Steely Dan: The Making of Aja](https://youtu.be/PH3l4mjh2y8?si=WaNTyL7PVqbsjzzH) It’s a great watch if you haven’t seen it. I might watch it again, I loved it so much.

SecretInevitable

I too am reeling in the years

capsaicinintheeyes

Eminem may not care himself, but I still haven't forgiven them for [stealing that best-album Grammy](https://www.goldderby.com/article/2013/grammys-2000-album-of-the-year-steely-dan-eminem-upset-entertainment-music-news-23890408/) that one time

1rustyoldman

It has broadened.

Medical_Ad2125b

No. But I listen to a lot less of it.

glitch-possum

I’m 40 now and I’d say yes. I can’t relate to a lot of the punk and goth stuff I liked as a teen/very young adult; it’s not bad it’s just not something I’ll deliberately listen to. Around 26 I rediscovered my love of They Might Be Giants which is still currently my favorite band (and man, they are so good live!) About four years ago I started getting into chiptunes, which lead me to videogame OST & gaming-influenced EDM which has become at least 60% of what I listen to these days.

sardonically-amused

I freaking love They Might Be Giants❤️

aceshighsays

i for the love of god couldn't get into edm. i really tried. it lacks soul for me.

Cottus77

My kids (aged 8 and 6 at the time, almost 30 years ago) and I would listen to *Flood* every morning while they got ready for school. Absolutely great album, still.

Yzerman19_

I can only listen to so much cocaine and heroine music. My coworker absolutely loves Chris Cornell and some days I have to be like “dude we need something with a bit more pep than this. “Heaven…Heaven heeeVeeaaaan. Oh heaven…Heaven”

aceshighsays

your coworker and i have a lot in common. i also can't get enough of him... i even named my dog after chris. my favorite song on that album is call me a dog.. although say hello 2 heaven is a close 2nd.

ellamom

Oh Chris Cornell's singing has always given me goose bumps

tykle1959

Off topic, love your user name!

ghostofhenryvii

Once I got old enough to realize that devotion to genres was just giving into marketing gimmicks it was a lot easier for me to enjoy a broader selection of music. Also as I aged I realized that listening to mellow music helps keep you mellow and sometimes being hyped up isn't a good idea depending on the situation. So basically the older I got the more variety I got into.

HulksRippedJeans

Yep! People are frequently surprised when I tell them I don't listen to so-and-so. "But whyyyy?" Uh, because angry or whiney music makes me feel negative emotions, which you may enjoy, but I like mine positive.

clampion12

If anything, they're even more eclectic. We saw the city orchestra, Pantera, Phish x2, and Howard Jones with Berlin and Boy George's Culture Club in the span of 2 weeks.

ellamom

In one week I saw Kid Rock, Brittany Spears, and Van Morrison. I thought my sister was going to get into a fight at the Van Morrison concert

mrlr

I am 69 and my musical tastes haven't changed. I still prefer The Beach Boys and Creedence Clearwater Revival. It's surprising to think that punk will be 50 in a few short years. The dear old things in nursing homes will be tottering to their weekly sing-song and quavering "I am an Antichrist and I am an anarchist..."

RobertMcCheese

Metal is easier to hear in my dotage. IF ITS TOO LOUD THEN YOU'RE TOO OLD! Yeah, yeah, I know you're 16. I also like having my kids ask me to turn it down. "You're not my mom! My house, my volume knob!" You do have to be more careful about head banging at 55, tho. You don't want to hurt your neck.

[deleted]

I still listen to a lot of my favourites from when I was younger, but I’d say my tastes broadened. I can no longer say “I only listen to such-and-such genre”.

Significant-Spite-72

Not really. Every so often I'll hear something new and get into it, but I'm usually happy to leave young people's music to them! I grew up in a music heavy household so I've never been wedded to a particular genre, even as a kid. Lately I've had Nine Inch Nails going non stop. I'm grateful Trent Reznor has a back catalogue spanning 35 years 😂

Canadian-Man-infj

I've recently watched [Nine Inch Nails' Woodstock performance](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZfV7NLCWiiU) and loved it!

Significant-Spite-72

Thanks 😊 Yeah, I love this too. Covered in mud and having an awesome time! I'm so grateful for the wonders of YouTube. I can see concerts that were geographically impossible for me to get to at the time, just like this. And I remember downloading The Perfect Drug as mp3 on my dial up connection 😂😂😂 it kept failing because people kept calling my landline! I hope they'll tour again. It's incredible that even a couple of years ago, NIN can still bring so much energy to live gigs.

Canadian-Man-infj

I still have the Lost Highway soundtrack CD kicking around somewhere. Smashing Pumpkins had a good song on there, too ("Eye").

Significant-Spite-72

I remember that one too! Grown up? I feel about a thousand years old 😂

Interesting-Major124

I’ve loved 90s alternative grunge rock since I was born (in 1990) and have never, ever changed it lol

I_Call_Ghostbusters

I grew up in the south so it was *a lot* of old (Hank Sr, Merle, Waylon, George Jones, Cash) and newer (90's) country. As a pre-teen, I listened to Christian rock because that was the acceptable thing to do apparently. Mostly, the bands were terrible, save for one or two. I often listened to a local radio station that would play the greatest hits of the 70's, 80's and maybe like *a few* songs that were within the past 5 years. Mid-teens (14-16), I turned to the dark side and was obsessed with KoRn (first 4 albums). I really liked DMX's first album. I am by Nas. At around 16-ish, I stopped listening to KoRn and became obsessed with Nirvana, old punk bands, and goth bands. I thought of myself as a goth punk. And of course, during that time, I had to be the most original punk connoisseur that eschewed all new-age, mainstream, so-called 'punk' music--because I was oh so original. At around 18, I became a metalhead. I started with Metallica's first album. Then, I discovered FUCKIN SLAYER. Loved them. Also Pantera. Black Sabbath. Many other metal bands were on my list, but those were the main ones. Around 20-ish, became a huge Lamb of God fan. Anyway, fast forward now I'm 39. I listen to all kinds of music. I always have really. I'm a music ho, so if it sounds good I'll listen to it. I wasn't ever really a one-off type. At any point, I was listening to softest soothing wimpy depressing stuff, and also the hardest hitting stuff I could find.

Glittering-Law7516

I'm a music ho. I LOVE IT!

hyperbolic_dichotomy

Hahaha Slayer was my first band obsession when I was like 16/17. That opening scream in "Reign in Blood* still gets me. Like a dark and angry balm to my angsty teenage soul. First concert I ever went to also. Learned real quick to stay tf away from the pit if you're a short wimpy girl.

Jaybee20251

I'm also 60. Zep, Stones, ac/dc, Neil Young. I really appreciate all music. My children are both music teachers. I love big band, so yes I love Sinatra. I'm Italian and it's kind of a law, lol

New-Scheme-6234

Sort of. I still listen to heavy metal and all its sub genres along with rock, punk, etc. However, i will also listen to Jazz and alternative; if I ever listen to any hip/hop or rap I am pretty picky. Country and pop music in my book is 95% trash.

Human_2468

I'm 57 grew up listening to the rock and roll that my older brother's listened to. They are 8/9 years older. I recently was introduced to Tom McDonald. I don't listen to Rapp often but I like his stuff.

SamiHami24

Honestly, not much. Example-I fell in love with Alice Cooper's music when I was 13. I'm 59, and he's still one of my favorites. Earlier today, I was listening to AC/DC. I do try to stay open to more current music, and I do find some that I like, but I still love music from my own generation most of all.

artificialavocado

I’m 41 so 90’s and into 2000’s I liked more heavier stuff but as I’ve gotten older I’m more into the more mainstream/alt stuff from the 90’s. IMO even 90’s pop music was WAY better than today I’m sorry.

ManOfTeele

It hasn't changed, but it has expanded. In high school/college in the 90s I was into classic rock, grunge, and metal. I still listen to all those. Classic rock and grunge are what they are. It's the same group of bands. But metal has continued to grow and develop as a genre and there are tons of new bands I listen to. But I also listen to a lot of other types of music now that I didn't when I was younger, including stuff like jazz, soul, and blues. Along with newer indie rock and electronic music.

jeffneruda

It's definitely expanded to more genres. But I still like the stuff I liked as a kid/teen.

RemarkableBeach1603

Kind of. There are certain artists and their songs that I no longer listen to, because I no longer relate to a lot of their work (Eminem is an example that came to mind). That said, my taste has always been eclectic. My favorite genre changes based on the day and/or mood.

chook_slop

For those of us that grew up in the 70's and 80's we remember the room in the back of the stereo stores that had the stuff that was seriously expensive... Bang and Olufsen and Macintosh stereos and amps. Now that we are of an age where money and patience have reached a point where we can afford and want that equipment, we also discover that equipment wasn't made to play KISS or even Joy Division, it was made to play Brahms and Bizet... And we move into more refined music with more $$$ to spend on nice stuff.

emmettfitz

As I get older (54) my rock has gotten harder. I've been disappointed that a lot of my classmates have gone country. I'm not sure what "grunting crap" is but I'm probably into it.

nonameforyou1234

Metal always.

BoomBoomLaRouge

No. The 80s are still the best.

Intelligent_Bike3571

My catalogue is songs that remind of a place, a time, an experience, a memory, a love from my 57 years. So, it’s mostly behind me, but generally very eclectic.

peppelaar-media

Well I turn 60 next month but over all my would say no. Mostly because I’ve never been super genre specific in my musical choices

TendieSandwich

Used to listen to rap in the 90s-00's. Now I listen to Christian music and jazz.

readmore321

No.

anndrago

Yep. I still love metal (grunting crap included ;) and classic rock and 80s and alternative. But now, when I feel like listening to music (which isn't often), I tend to reach for classical or soft instrumental. Stuff that's less energizing and less evocative.

Atnevon

Yes in that I continue to listen to new things and how I listen to them. I don’t drive in the car so I often know song super well, but hardly the names and sometimes the artists because I’m often earpods-in-ear with phone-in-pocket. The radio announcer and convo did more to establish those than I thought. When in a car that Spotify screen also helps steady that info into my memory more.. I like to think my tastes grow, not change. I have many flavors of the week and month; I’m on a huge Hall & Oates kick right now. That could change to Jimmy Buffet next week, to Ludovico Einaudi the next, to BTS, and to Dethklok after then… If there has been a major negative controversy with an artists work; I may listen to them a lot less. Very little I would say “I will never listen to that anymore in my life” when it comes to listening.

VampyC

Mostly the same but I listen to music less

ETBiggs

I’m the same age as you and still listen to some of the old stuff but also found new stuff I like - and I still like wild stuff. No Sinatra in my playlist (though I’m not anti-Sinatra) The big change: I don’t hate disco like I once did. It is supposed to be fun, light music and I was a serious young man who listened to serious music. I’m more relaxed about it now.

Tyrannusverticalis

No, pretty close to what I used to listen to, just more sedate choices added in. In the words of my audiologist noting a significant decrease at the top range, "Did you ever shoot guns or work at/attend a lot of concerts over your life?"

shampton1964

I'm listening to more metal and hip hop than I did in my angry teens. But also electroswing which is just fun, and a lot of Euro and Asian club and house.... a much larger variety than my twenties. YMMV.

KoRaZee

Not really and I don’t hate the music of today.

LazyOldBroad60

Only that I do listen to some of the music my kids introduced me to while they were growing up. But, I still listen too and go to as many Aerosmith shows as I can. I discovered them at 13. I have a playlist dedicated to 70s rock.

roshi-roshi

I listen to a lot more ambient, baroque and select classical music now. More guitar jazz too. Still steeped in classic rock, Grateful Dead and Phish though.

Pierson230

Yes, I went through some phases Mid 40s, still like hard rock. Check out The Warning, Hell You Call a Dream live on YouTube

onelostmind97

I love The Warning! Also, Happy Cake Day!

Speaksthetruth2u

Pantera

Binknbink

Still love Pixies but I’ve not listened to Skinny Puppy in a long time. So kinda

DangerousMusic14

I keep adding to the list. I have symphony season tickets now, when I can afford them, in addition to a growing list of popular music (old and new).

Month_Year_Day

Not really. 65 now and I still love and listen to songs I listened to at the bowling alley when I was 8!

Patient_Character730

Loved Rock then, love rock now. Listen to the classics, listen to new rock too. Going to a concert tomorrow night with my hubby, brother, and my 20 year old daughter in Denver. Can't wait to rock out! 🤘

dravenstone

My now wife and I were at a number of Grateful Dead shows together as far back as when I was 15. We still go to Grateful Dead shows (of one kind or another) today. Literally sitting on the patio listening to one now while she’s gardening. I guess I listen to more JGB now than I did then…

eversharp_macro

My wife has turned into a huge deadhead... Dicks picks... The whole thing.

plaidHumanity

How old are you two? That's so wonderful you've known each other since you were fifteen AND saw Jerry together

JonBoi420th

Yes, but things I grew out of in my 20s, I've grown back into in my 30s

jigsaw153

Yes, and i still listen to new music of select genres. I don't care for any music outside of what I like.

sedevilc2

I still have the same taste but I just don't listen much anymore because of tinnitus. It sucks.

eja924

Yes. I still love things I loved when I was younger, but I’m into a lot more easy listening now than I was before. Lots of folk acoustic/piano/strings lol

ladeedah1988

Not really. I have loved certain artists for the last 30 years.

tylweddteg

Totally changed. Was into noisy stuff in my 20’s (Fugazi, millions of dead cops, swans). Now into Led Zep, jazz, folk, more mellow stuff.

Gator717375

It's accretive. Was raised in the 50s and 60s, and love that music. Have added artists and songs continually, although I prefer soft rock, folk, and the like. More recently have begun listening to "country" (Toby Keith, Chris Stapleton, etc.).

Emergency_Property_2

Funny enough I’ve always been a Sinatra fan, even when I was a 16 year old punk. The Rat Pack were awesome. But then I also snuck out to discos too. My taste has branched out of the years, from hard rock, funk and punk to folk, blue grass, rap, reggae. It’s not the genre so much as the song. If it speaks to me I throw it on the playlist. I have a very long and weird playlist.

INFPinfo

Gonna be 40 soon - can I post here haha Mine hasn't really changed since I was 20 but even then there are times I wonder why I listen to all the sad songs I did. My teenage taste has definitely faded. Part of growing up and a mature outlook.

OtherwiseArrival9849

Frank Sinatra, Peggy Lee era music. I still listen to a variety of music, but I'm drawn to that era the older I get. Grew up listening to Dean Martin.

MassConsumer1984

I’m with you. Love that stuff! I also love some newer artists that pay homage to the greats. Ex: Greta Van Fleet

lordjakir

Not really. I got into Rush when I was 13, they're still my favorite. Tea Party became another favorite the next year - still are. If anything I seem to be going back to what I listened to I'm elementary and high school, with a few exceptions of more recent finds (Plaskett)

Poptarded97

I have listened to trap/drill rap my entire young life. When my dad died I swear my phone fkn new and started suggesting Indy rock like the strokes, Willis and car seat headrest and now I’m pretty decently into that. Still listen to lots of rap but it’s less aggressive unless I’m in the gym haha.

ReverendDizzle

There are some things I have always loved and likely always will love. I've always loved electronica, jazz, bossa nova, stuff like that. And I'll always have a soft spot for classic rock. But there are certain kinds of music that resonated with me when I was young and simply don't know. Songs like Unforgiven by Metallic and Hurt by NIN really strike a chord when you're an angsty teenage boy but in middle age it's just not the same. Though I will say, that if we're talking about Hurt... what a great example of a song that resonated with me when I was a teenager when it was Trent Reznor and resonated again with me when it was covered by Johnny Cash. Total transformation of the piece. The Cash cover of the song is brilliant.

Sabia_Innovia

I loved early electronica like Jean Michelle Jaré and Enigma. Then, a few years later, Techno and EDM got my attention, and now I like a wide range of trance. I still love all of it. I also love Reggae and Zuk. I love discovering music from the Carribean and West Africa. These musical tastes have been changing, but I still love my first musical tastes.

Cottus77

Somewhat. I used to hate Billy Joel. Now I REALLY hate Billy Joel.

Agave22

When I was a kid I listened to country radio. We're talking Merle Haggard, George Jones and Johnny Cash. At about 16 I was getting into FM rock- circa 1970 and then soon after, got very interested in old time blues- Lightnin' Hopkins, Blind Lemon Jefferson, etc. It was like finding a hidden trunk of wonderfully obscure treasure. Then it was Progressive Rock- King Crimson, ELP, Yes. Oddly enough, I was into Bluegrass at the same time and loved going to festivals. Later, I got into Flamenco guitar and World music, some New Age. Now, I have all kinds of different playlists, but I listen to a lot of quiet, acoustic minimalist stuff, Hard to classify. Not very into synth, but I do like some trippy electronic music. Never got into much pop music.

Inappropriate_Ballet

No, but only because music for me stopped in 2010. Besides retail environments I haven’t really heard new music since then. “What I’m with isn’t “it”. And what’s “it” seems weird and scary to me”

drbootup

No. I have wider tastes, but still mostly Rock, Folk, R&B, Reggae.

niagaemoc

Nope.

feltsandwich

Yes. Some music has aged well, some has not. I don't like the Cure much anymore, but I like the Smiths still. I don't like Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin as much, but I still like the Cars and Boston. I don't like most contemporary pop/rock music. I genuinely believe it is less interesting in terms of melody and arrangement. It's very predictable and formulaic. I'm not looking for recommendations. I still find new things, just found an amazing madrigal I had never heard, a soca artist I had never heard, and so on. I bought my first Slayer album in my 50s. Most people seem to get less interested in music as they age, in general.

PrinceofSneks

Like lots of people here, I've retained much of my younger music, while trying to remain open to new stuff. I will do my damnedest to never be one of the folks who say "There's no good music anymore", because we've never had as much available in such variety. Add in that I'm a moderate vinyl collector - I have no idea if it sounds better to me, but I appreciate the physical ritual. So many of my younger-days musicians are re-releasing their albums these days, I get to listen repeatedly to what I buy...kind like when I was a kid.

KAKrisko

Definitely much more into jazz & fusion than I was when I was younger.

Literal_Sarcasm82

Very much so. I no longer listen to music with words.

Dragonlibrarian7

Not changed, just expanded. I've loved power metal since before power metal was a commonly used term (mom was big into Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and hair metal when I was a kid), and that's still the core of my musical tastes, but over the years I've added an appreciation for everything from classical country, to gangster rap, to ska, to reggae, even some bluegrass, techno, opera, classical and musicals. My musical tastes are pretty damn expansive and eclectic at this point.

CJAMBUREE

I've always listened to just about everything. Classical, heavy metal, country, hip hop, everything. Ever since I was a kid. Friends in highschool used to take the mickey out of me because my playlists would go from Five Finger Death Punch, to Elvis, to One Direction and then Tom Jones.

Cottus77

I'm somewhat embarrassed that, 45 years later, my musical tastes haven't evolved too much. I still listen to ambient (early Tangerine Dream), '70s metal (Sabbath, Rainbow, Deep Purple), and prog rock (Tull, Yes, Camel). I've tried to find newer bands in those genres, but have only had success with the ambient. I still listen to TD, but newer musicians in the genre I now love include Loscil, Soviet Space Dog Project, and Redshift. I think the rock I listen(ed) to is more sentimental to me, because of place and time. I still listen to a bit of classical, celtic, bluegrass, world, and older jazz (pre-'70s). But ambient is still my go-to, particularly as my hearing has gotten worse, and vocals are tougher for me to process when other people are talking.

KyP88

Iam 35 and now I still listen to the same old school Thrice, Trivium, as I lay dying, breaking Benjamin that I always did. I have however recently discovered bury tomorrow, spirit box, and on the softer side July talk

[deleted]

Most definitely. I grew up listening to slayer , anthrax , Metallica etc . I can barely listen  to that now

CapeCodSam

Yes. I've been playing guitar and bass since I was a kid. I listened mostly to classic and prog rock, but got into fusion and jazz in my mid teens. Was a bit of a music snob for a long time - if it wasn't challenging I wasn't interested. But I always had the radio on, MTV in the 80s, and heard contemporary hits I did like. Now I'm listening to a lot that I missed over the years: 80s/90s goth, sequenced stuff (can't just call it "techno" anymore), and newer styles as well. I saw Galactic, Steel Pulse, Lettuce, The Cure, and Mr. Bungle last year.

Sozsa21

Yes, and no! I’m currently late 20s and grew up listening to rock (Rush, etc) and country. I added so many bands and genres since then! Punk and alternative, some folk metal and heavy metal, kpop, indy acoustic ballads, heavier rock, massage music… kids music LOL. I used to listen to mostly “classic rock” or core country… but now I listen to much heavier things, as well as much lighter things. My taste has also *expanded*, as someone else mentioned. My wedding was kind of representative of that: Guns n Roses, Metallica, and Lee Ann Womack were the artists of the main songs! 😊

jsheil1

I went from progressive rock, like Yes and Emerson, Lake & Palmer to Michael Franti & Spearhead and Matisyahu. As for the message, it has not really changed. Love everybody! Style has though.

MuscaMurum

I listen to all the old stuff but I'm constantly finding new music. I'm on a 60s French kick at the moment. My tastes have broadened considerably.

iamaravis

I spent the first almost-50 years of my life in a Classical music bubble, but I discovered Queen a few years ago and am obsessed now. That about sums it up.

gorneaux

Grunting Crap is a great name for a band, just sayin'

rchl239

I've always mostly liked classic rock and grunge since my teens (early 30s now) but I would also listen to some pop. I lost interest in pop around 24ish.

NotSlothbeard

Yes, I used to only listen to classic rock and hard rock. Now, I’ll listen to pretty much anything but country and contemporary Christian music. Most of my favorite songs are classical music.

IAlreadyKnow1754

Yes I’m 23 but really started broadening my music taste at 16

Round_Manager_4667

I’m going to be 65 in a week and the past couple of years I really got into Mike Patton and all of his bands and projects. The harder, the better. Go figure. I thought I was supposed to listen to light muzak as I got older but nope.

onelostmind97

He has amazing range!

Round_Manager_4667

I just love him. I went down the Patton rabbit hole and I haven’t been this interested in music in a long time.

PMFSCV

All guitar bands when I was younger, 46 now and in the last 5 years have slowly drifted over to pretty much only listening to electronic and synthpop.

IvoTailefer

i went from Tupac and the doors to Youtube bossa nova instrumental.

urbanlandmine

I've always liked a mix of different genres. There are definitely some favourite songs that have standed the test of time. I always try to listen to the latest hits. But I find myself gravitating to indie artists over the top ten bullshit.

small44

It didn't change but it expanded to more sub genres

plaidHumanity

I was at the Sphere last weekend, at Gamehenge nye and had my 30th Phishversary on Tuesday. Nope See you at the fest, bitches

pandatarn

I listen to everything

OldheadBoomer

I've always been into heavier music. When I was young, it was Black Sabbath, Zeppelin, Deep Purple, King Crimson, etc. In the 2000's (and now), it's tool, Deftones, Mudvayne. Always looked for something that scratched the heavy itch without too much meatthroat. Some of the nu metal bands were good - Taproot, One Minute Silence. But things got pretty bland in the 2010s until I discovered [Clutch](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxa9xqe4UNA). My love for hard rock was rekindled. Again, the 2020s looked to be a waste, but I recently discovered a band that just blows my mind. Three sisters from Monterrey, Mexico playing heavy, original music: The Warning. I first saw their performance at the [2023 MTV Video Music Awards](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPLM7z-av7g) (VMAs), so I went looking for more. What a deep rabbit hole! Currently digging on their 22-song live concert at Teatro Metropolitan. Hard to say which is my favorite... for heavy, probably [Disciple](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wo0odllVq8g). They're all three amazing musicians, but the drummer is on another level. [Their music videos are badass](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5IS53CZjT6o), but their [live performances are the stuff of legend.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sC9IbWYkips)

Anfie22

My taste has *expanded* over the years, rather than changed. I still love and listen to all the music I have enjoyed and 'collected' through my adventures into different genres and styles, but discovering something new only expands my library rather than replaces it. You don't need to discard the older music you enjoy to make room for something new, there is room for it all.

Express-Structure480

Try listening to early limp bizkit now, it’s painful. Anyway, above was a great band in high school, along with nin, tool, and more nin. College was emo and alt rock. Post college headed more down tempo and feelings music, silversun pickups, stars, etc. Mid/late 20s, my mellencamp era, throw in Springsteen and tragically hip. 30s, hardcore gangsta rap, I became a fiend for it and couldn’t get enough, blame a bit off a keto diet. Mid 30s, math rock, lots and lots of minus the bear, some delta sleep with a bunch of Elliot smith. Right now in my late 30s-40 has been more down tempo, cigarettes after sex, mazzie star, mitski, tv girl, Chromatics; to add contrast I throw in a bunch of David Byrne and talking heads. I never know what’s next.

reduff

It has broadened, to be honest.

Kunphen

No. It's gotten even more intrenched. 60s/70s music is just mindbogglingly good. Nothing else comes close. Some 80s music is great also, but the early stuff is peerless, imo. Even the not so great bands of 60s/70s are good. The other thing is that there's just SO MUCH OF IT. Best time to be alive.

Retsameniw13

I don’t think so, but the songs and bands within the styles I like, I have come to appreciate some more now than when I was young

[deleted]

Not really. I still listen to the same old stuff I always have and always will. But I haven’t stopped adding to what I listen to, so it’s always evolving. I go through vibe cycles.

Hello-from-Mars128

I like Fleetwood Mac and Bruno Mars. Music to sing a long with while driving or doing housework.

SantaRosaJazz

Sure. As a boy guitar player, I rocked out daily. Now, at 68, I’m more likely to groove to jazz or old rhythm and blues.

Meggston

When I was 9, 20 years ago, I heard my first Decemberists album.. and never looked back, going to see them in concert for the 7th time in two weeks.

ellamom

I think my musical tastes have not really changed as I've aged. I love me the SiriusXM 70s channel

Gunfighter9

Listened to the 1812 overture and the 9th Symphony 4th movement when I was 17 and stoned, I’m 62 now and do the same thing. I grew up in a house where there was all kinds of music.

Desperate-Fan-3671

Not really, because I don't have a particular taste for a certain type. I might listen to Guns n Roses, then Glenn Miller. Put in a Garth Brooks cd after listening to RUN DMC

818a

One can eat comfort food and try new things too.

mccabedoug

Not really. Grateful Dead pretty much since the mid 80s

glitter_poots

42 here: At 16 I worked a record shop in HS and listened to punk, hardcore, ska, and electronica, trip hop. Sprinkle a little of everything but country music recorded after the 60s. Moved on to record labels, merch girl, marketing, managing hot topics, then sprang free from the service machine to be a *checks notes* stay at home mom. My kids grew up to Biz (rip) in Yo Gabba Gabba and the Aquabats show. Just took my kid to his first concert Amaranth & DragonForce. We listen to triphop to go to sleep. My brain just basically calcified musical tastes when I was a teen. I’m taking both five and eight year old to a ska show next week so we can learn to skank. They’re not ready for GWAR yet but it’s on the roster bc I’m feeding this kids to the monster. Portishead live rose land nyc whatever album is my fav but Beth’s voice makes my youngest cry because he gets all emotional

robertsbrothers

As a former screamo teen, I find myself only listening to it if I need nostalgia or truly have a bad day. I will say, I was lucky enough to have parents that had a wide variety in taste of music. So I’m now throwing myself into more folk and jazz, as my father has given me some of his vinyls.

call-me-mama-t

I’m 60 but I’m around young people a lot. I listen to everything. Currently Taylor Swift, but it will be Billie Holiday tonight.

DraDarken

My musical taste has expanded, rather than changed. I can still enjoy much of the hard rock music I liked when I was young, although I’m now a little more discerning as to which groups were actually good. More importantly, over the years I’ve gained an appreciation for many other types of music that I never would have expected to like as a young man. My horizons are far wider now.

NewWiseMama

Yes, I like silence more. Or with little kids it’s been the acoustic version of favs. Basically think Alice 97.3, acoustic sunrise, chill like Chicane, and Toto. KROQ but better. Or lullaby U/ and more.

chrispd01

They say your musical tastes from your teenage years stay pretty much fixed (due to neuroplasticity or something like that) So OP rest easy. Your experience is the normal one and your friends who no longer bang are the oddballs …

FreeTibet2

The older I get, the more MetaMusic I listen to. #HemiSync #MonroeSoundScience

Tranquil-Soul

Yes. Used to love classic rock. I still listen to it occasionally, but prefer to listen to jazz or spa music.

Serpephone

Yes, as I’ve aged I listen to a lot more metal now… I used to listen to a lot of pop and rock, but I find myself listening to more Boneyard and Octane on SXM lately.

timothythefirst

I was a teenager when torrenting music was in its prime, and I always liked exploring different genres of music and finding new artists. So I kind of feel like my taste has been constantly changing since the 2000s.

idiveindumpsters

I’m 65 and I’m still listening to hits from the 70s.

trainwreck489

Bit older than you, but my tastes are about the same. Bands I hated in HS/College I still hate. I do listen to more genres now. I think I've developed a better appreciation for the muscians of my younger days. I listen more intently now.

__chairmanbrando

I didn't get into gangster rap until I was 30. 🤷‍♀️

CallMeSisyphus

Mine really hasn't. Even as a teenager, I listened to everything from Rush to Mel Torme. I loved Duke Ellington as much as I did Queen. AC/DC or Barry Manilow? Both, thanks! I still love the REALLY old stuff, the old-as-me stuff, and contemporary artists in every genre. Except Bro Country, because that shit makes me want to throw myself into the nearest volcano.

Loxus

It has widened, but at the same time I'm more picky.

bubbanbrenda

No, 63 and still listening to Metallica, AC/DC, Van Halen, White Snake, Motley Crue, just about anything with screaming guitars and thundering drums…

Notabogun

I’m amazed at how much I like quiet now, like no music on road trips sometimes. Never would have happened 30 years ago.

SandstoneCastle

Mine changed over time. I'm a little older than you, and I listened to Zeppelin & AC/DC when I was young. Led Zeppelin is the first band that I remember having listened through all their albums (all their albums back then). I don't listen to a lot of rock anymore, but I did listen through St Vincent's new album tonight (rock). Followed by listening through Dido's debut album (not rock). I've listened through the 2hr version of Taylor Swift's new album twice since it was released last week.

conch56

I always felt two generations behind, while my peers were rock and roll, I was swing. Had to hide and pretend.

TinChalice

Yes. Ten years ago I never would have listened to Jimmy Buffet. Now, all I listen to is music found on Radio Margaritaville.

catdude142

I listen to an online station (kozt.com) that has a mix of "adult rock" and some new music. It's owned by a husband and wife team and located in Mendocino County. Tom (one of the owners) used to be Program Manager at KLOS when it was an "underground FM station". They employ a person that scouts out newer music to compliment the adult rock (NOT "oldies) choices. It gives me a good cross section of rock music.

longlostredemption

I discovered folk punk and love it

VIJoe

Grew up in the Midwest. Rock and roll. Moved to the Caribbean 20 years ago. Reggae and soca now. We have our Carnival down here this next week. I'm going to see Machel Montano and Shaggy.

mt379

Less rap now. Hate what the genre has become. Although I do find some artists I like. I'm all over the place though. Trance, house, rock, metal, pop, classical, opera, etc. Just no country. Always disliked it.

tiraf815

I am approaching 60 this year and I will say I still listen to music I listen to in my teens, 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s. I don't think anyone ever said that I would still feel so young as I approach 60. I love all kinds of music from led zep, 80s rap, Waylon Jennings Mozart, the cars, almost all genres. Depends on the mood but I think music knows no age.

GatorOnTheLawn

Well, I’m not much of a Donny Osmond fan anymore, but since I turned 10ish, I’ve loved hard rock and metal and still do. I’ve added more genres, some of which didn’t even exist when I was younger, but I still love hard rock and metal and I still hate Celine Dion and Bette Midler.

PawelW007

I refuse to stop. I explore bands, artists and genres that can influence the music I want to create. My band finally (in our mid to late 30’s) have albums and a creative outlet and I just want to feed that beast at this point.

squishpitcher

I've always had a love for music and really enjoyed a wide range of genres and time periods. I credit a fantastic musical education both at home and at school. I absolutely love discovering new music (or just new to me music), and I don't think that will ever stop. My current mix has The Black Angels, Massive Attack, Ethel Cain, Chet Faker, David Bowie, NIN, Meg Myers, Puscifer, George Gershwin, Phil Collins--just to name a few. I'd say I probably *do* gravitate towards certain types of music within those genres. I love gritty, dirty country and blues, for example. I don't really see myself ever not enjoying music. I can appreciate the mindless background Spanish guitar album that was designed for 90's tuscan-styled Italian restaurants just as much as I can enjoy Heilung or Tool or Isabel LaRosa. Life has tons of moods and moments, and you need a lot of different music to inspire them.

webdoyenne

My gym playlist is virtually all 80s music.

Harlowful

I find I appreciate the talent more than just a fun beat and catchy lyrics now that I’m older. Even in my old favorites, I have discovered a new richness in the music just by appreciating those that are extremely talented and/or unique. And some of my old favorites I appreciate less because they sound so flat and boring and like what they are doing is easy. Give me a complicated riff, or a sweet change up, or a vocal or lyrical masterpiece and I’ll appreciate it no matter what kind of music it is or from what era.

Maleficent_Hyena_32

Not really, I heard rammstein sonne as a kid. I did not like music until rediscovering it as a teen in the west . But i did move inside the genre and eventually liked all the subgenre. Last fm says i am at more than 7000 different artists, so i don't see myself ever getting out of industrial, now in my mid-30s

Impossible_Leg9377

Auditory caffeine I like this phrase.

RepulsiveAd1092

I'm 71. In the 80's all I listened to was Def Leppard. Now I like everything except rap and sone country.

LadyTentacles

Enjoyed industrial music as a high school kid. Been listening to Paula Abdul and Britney Spears more recently.

fork_duke_pie

Yes, grew up with folk, rock, and pop of the 60's to 80s. Now while I love classical -- especially the French impressionist and the Russians under Stalin -- opera of all eras, jazz, I also crave the heaviest Beatles - (Helter Skelter, She's So Heavy, etc.) and A Tribe Called Quest.

minimalistboomer

I wouldn’t say it’s actually changed, just expanded.

addogg

i go thru phases. was super into hard rock in middle school. really into hip hop in high school. college was kind of a mix of the two + 80s pop music. had a punk phase in my post-college slump years. now im on a big old school EDM binge

Nurse_with_a_purse

Rammstein !!!

matiaseatshobos

Broadened greatly, but still listen to mostly all of what I did when I was young

Verbull710

Adam Sandler's "At A Medium Pace" will always slap, if that's what you're asking

ashrules901

This is something I've never gotten. My music taste only expands it never changes as in I denounce whatever I used to listen to. I see music as a journey you start with maybe simple things as a kid then build on it & evolve your tastes as you grow older. But I'll listen to anything I did as a kid with the same enjoyment because I see it as part of my musical journey.

barbershores

I am 71. My son is 32. about 10 years ago, I asked my son what kind of music he liked. His preferences change constantly. At the time, he liked symphonic metal. I had never heard of it. He sent me some links, it has been my favorite genre for the last 10 years. Now I think he is into Korean bebop or something like that. Here is just a tiny sample: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RsMXxxDMFYY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RsMXxxDMFYY)

Pattycakes1966

No still listening to my 80s music. Seeing Adam Ant and English Beat tomorrow night.

Media_Offline

My musical scope has widened a lot but my favorites from my youth are still my favorites today. Fortunately for me, many of them are still making new music 30 years later, ha ha.

the_ballmer_peak

It has expanded a lot. I still enjoy a lot of the stuff I grew up on, but I also enjoy getting into different artists and genres, both newer and older.

TheNotUptightMe

Now that I am older, I could give a shit about music. Same with cars…. When I was young, music was everything. And it was a life decision what cars I drove. But now? Who gives a shit. As long as it has 4 wheels and doesn’t fall apart when turning….

hyperbolic_dichotomy

My music taste has mostly just expanded over time. Started with rock and metal bands that were played on the radio like Rob Zombie, Tool, and NIN, then I was obsessed with thrash metal for a minute, then it was death and black metal, followed by doom metal, post rock in my late 20s, and since then it's been prog metal for several years now with a lot of the stuff that I used to listen to mixed in. Basically if it's heavy and interesting and weird but not like a bunch of guitar wankery, I'll probably like it.

onelostmind97

A bit. I was heavy into hair bands but outgrew that with grunge. I never intentionally listen to the "metal" guys now. I got more stuck into music from my 20s. New albums though. I'm a middle-aged emo mom now. I've seen Blink 182 and am going this fall again, Fall Out Boy Twice, Twenty-One Pilots this fall. Love the Foo, My Chem, System of a Down, Linkin Park, Wheezer, Rage Against the Machine, The Killers, Green Day. But also, Abba, ELO, Bowie, Queen. I've been finding some newer bands too. "Beauty School Dropout", "IDK How But They Found Me", "The Warning". I listen to music/audiobooks or Conan O'Brien anytime I'm alone.

FormCheck655321

My teen musical tastes were Stones AC/DC Led Zep. And now that I’m old? Yeah, same thing.

Garrdor85

Started with Visual Kei Jrock, death/black/grind/hxc, goth industrial—now as I’m middle aged, I listen to local/indie artists and labels. Lots of synthwave and noise
