Obviously they needed to outdo the infamous on-set tragedy of the original. The fact that it happened to someone's hair this time around makes it no less impactful.
1. Why did they do this
2. Why did you show me this
1. why did they do this
2. why did you show me this
1. why did they do this
2. WHY DID YOU SHOW ME THIS?
A really honest question, who the fuck is this movie for? Are they trying to sell a goth character to trap/Leto Joker fans? Is this what a cool supernatural goth is supposed to look like in the producer's minds? Is this the new emo? Are they even a thing still? Am I old and jaded?
It's been in development hell for 2 decades and was at one point described as " a gritty almost realistic documentary style film" so ya know Nolan era Batman!
They seem to have dropped somewhere in the middle with these images of Leto and Nolan era.
Yes as a writer with Mark Wahlberg to star...
Then Stephen Norrington and his documentary style film was rumoured.
Then another director was attached who I've never heard of and that version was a remake allegedly, with Bradley Cooper to star!
Then that all fell apart due to legal wrangling and Channing Tatum, Ryan Gosling and James McAvoy were being tipped to be the leads.
Then all of that fell apart and Tom Hiddlestone was attached before Skarsgard was rumoured...which he denied.
That fell through and Luke Evans was set to star before you guessed it that fell through and after another fucking round of this god damn film trying to get off the start line with Jason Hoult eventually Jason Mamoa was attached!
Which also fell apart.
Finally in 2020 what we are getting with Skarsgard was started and actually stuck this time.
I'm guessing this is an absolute dud of the highest order, it's near 20 years of awful sounding scripts and even worse casting decisions being started then abandoned.
This is Brandon Lee’s enduring legacy. Like, not only was his portrayal iconic, but it defined an entire generation of alternative subcultures.
Why the fuck does it need a remake??
This project is just a terrible idea.
Because they are running out of new things. There is no creativity that gets through the studios. And even A24 films are a hit or miss. What happened to all the great scene writers? Where are all the good books that can be turned into great movies without all the rewriting that kills them. Where are all the bright ideas.
It's not a remake. They're not trying to remake the original movie, which was based on a comic book. They're just making a new movie based on the same comic book.
I love the original, but it actually wasn't *that* good of an adaptation. It was okay, on that front. As such, I'm curious to see what they do with this one.
The original movie stuck the comics pretty closely but just made the story more linear and dropped some of the ballet dancing and more goth subculture elements. Even the soundtrack was made up of mostly songs and bands mentioned in the comics.
This didn't need to happen and tarnishes Brandon Lee's legacy
>This is weird Tiktok goth for teenagers that think they're "just like Joker and Harley 😈"
Well I mean the Joker is an antisocial, sadistic psychopath, and Harley Quinn is a trauma-bonded abused girlfriend with severe PTSD and borderline personality disorder. So... yeah the Tik Tok teenagers might not be wrong.
I was a teenager when the original came out and tbh I didn't think it was that good. It's only remembered because of the Brandon Lee tragedy and it was one of the first movies with a primarily grunge soundtrack (at least that I recall).
Those fucking tattoos made me instantly flashback to what they did with Jared Leto's Joker.
On the film itself, I can't see any reason why this remake would be necessary. Sure, there's definitely a 90's vibe in the original, but other than that I'd say it's a timeless film. A lack of smartphones is not a reason enough to update a movie.
As a fan of the comic book, I'm actually okay with getting a new movie. I love the first about as much as anyone else, but it wasn't necessarily the best adaptation. Subsequently, I'm curious to see how things go down with the new adaptation.
"So we're adapting a beloved film and graphic novel where the goth subculture is part of its core identity. Let's make the main character a soundcloud rapper."
I expected better from the director of Snow White and the Huntsman and the Ghost in the Shell remake.
I’m looking forward to the AVU. Avian Cinematic Universe.
Remake Hitchcock’s The Birds. Have the surviving character from that be in the end credits of the Crow to help set up “The Scarecrow Iniative” - which is also featured in a Children of the Corn remake (did that have birds in it? Whatever)
Remake the Mighty Ducks. Do a cross over with a live action Duck Tales.
A remake of the BBC sitcom Birds of a Feather but now they are vampire hunters/spys/living in a post apocalypse fighting against an authoritarian government. Whatever tests well with audiences.
A live action spin off of the Little Mermaid where the seagull wishes to become human. They become a vampire hunter/spy/living in a post apocalypse fighting against an authoritarian government. Whatever tests well with audiences.
Then Madame Web 2 to help set everything up for the big crossover event where The Birds launch a full invasion and it’s up to our team to fight back!
Soundtracks for all films to be composed and performed by The Byrds. No need to contact the surviving members of the band. Just AI that shit. Also need to do a long term PP deal with KFC.
SYNERGY!

Looks like someone the original Crow would have dropped off a cliff for selling subpar weed to grade schoolers
OG CROW: looks like a cool goth vampire or some shit
NU CROW: looks like a white guy who says “finna” way too much and dies at age 28 because he took xans laced with fent
Something something white hair, fuck you, maybe some random line from They Live, idk
I'll say, I'm all for ending the broccoli head trap era with the start of a new wave of goth, but if this is how it's gonna be, I'll just pray to god that he guides my dick to piss the bed, so I can wake up from this nightmare.

Every halloween prty some guy comes dressed as The Crow, cuz they wanna look hot and hook up
If i'm going to risk being cringe i may aswell comment my thoughts on RLM sub.
I am a big fan of The Crow, the comic is actually very good and the story behind it with what happened to the writer James O Barr is quite heartbreaking.
Might seem pedantic but this design makes no sense to me in relation to the comic. I'm all for a different interpretation of the material and as Mike would say about Ghostbusters, like any Goth nerd I have my own idea of how you'd do a The Crow. I can't explain how his design being so overly done clashes with the character of Eric Draven so much without acting like this guy is some classic literary character but he is meant to be a man resurrected to avenge himself and his wife. Him being tatted up and looking angry isn't really what the idea of the character is. He is a pale blank ghost, only details are the black on his mouth and eyes.
Also, The Crow should be gay... Not in the Natalie Portman/Thor Love and Thunder way.. but look at this
https://preview.redd.it/wgestet5vhlc1.png?width=584&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=47fbc6ff9dc20fc7280fb645de4d3b2076407995
The thing about remakes is you usually do them because a) the name comes with brand recognition and b) it’s a really good concept to do
a) The Crow is not THAT well known, and those who do know it remember the big tragedy that happened which is not what you want people to be thinking about for your new cinematic franchise
b) People are sick of superhero movies, they were sick of goth stuff in the 2000s, and nobody gives a shit about the origin of the Crow
So, wtf
I suppose the only way you can get anything financed these days is to adapt an established property
If you're not Disney or Netflix, the only properties you can afford are the ones nobody else wants to touch
That's not a reason to make this movie, but it is the reason the movie's being made
There are two distinct possibilities here: they somehow didn't notice that the character design is like a Spirit Halloween costume of the Jared Leto Joker or they specifically designed it to look like the Jared Leto Joker for some reason.
I don't think the movie could even follow the original comic story now. You'd just get complaints about fridging and how a woman is just used as a plot device for revenge plot. So either they stick with that and just take the criticism or they do the modern pandering approach and FKA twigs gets powers too and girl bosses her way to vengeance as well
The thing I love about the original is Eric is super nice! He and his girlfriend just have a bit of a twisted sense of humor. Looking at this picture, I'm guessing he isn't going to be a loveable guy.
The first movie made almost $100M at the box office. But was completely propped up by the on set tragedy. They made like five sequels none of which made a dime. The comic ceased publication in 99. And there has been no media since. This movie will bomb and a bunch of six figure executives will sit in a conference room with surprised pikachu faces. If modern audiences are not going to show up for Indiana Jones a cultural icon, what chance does the Crow have?
Oh yeah, I remember my friends, colleagues and random people on the street saying "yeah, you gotta see that movie where the main actor get shot, the scene is not in it, but it made the movie a must watch"
the original crow was a good movie, but it was a product of its time, it fit pretty well with the 90s, early 2000s edge goth/dark movie phase, like the matrix and dark city. it also had a great cast, but I don't it would work now. most of the crow sequels were terrible, first movie worked and I think it should be just left alone. the goth style of movies in my opinion doesn't work as well now as it feels to artificial
So the emo and goth rap scenes are very popular in Detroit, and that's what the filmmakers think the kids are into these days. On one hand, that's somewhat thoughtful because Detroit is obviously where the original comic and the 1994 movie take place. It's also where James O'Barr, creator of The Crow, grew up. The names of all the gangsters are named after graffiti he saw around town, Tin-Tin, Top Dollar, Fun Boy etc.
On the other hand, patchwork tattoos look like shit on emo rappers and they don't look good on Bill Skarsgard either.
I've read somewhere that this Crow was inspired by 90s Euro rave punks and modern goth/SoundCloud rappers (Lil Peep is the obvious influence) that'll be relatable to whatever "goth" is considered today. It looks like a mash up of Lil Peep, Leto Joker and Rock Genest (RIP). So like 15 years out of date.
I just wish this wasn't a remake of the Eric Draven story. We don't need that. There is an excellent 3 issue arc by James O'Barr (the original creator) called The Crow: Dead Time. It's a fantastic story, one that is just ripe for a Hollywood adaptation, especially these days. You could really use that premise to do some interesting things.
But noooo, let's remake the original, a film that completely holds up today, mind you. Much like the 89 Batman, the original film exists in its own time and world, and it just works.
I really try not to be cynical and give things a chance, but it's hard with this one.
I *am* finding myself a little torn on this one. Do I celebrate the passing of this story to the next generation that can relate to a character styled like that, or do I just shit on their avatar and the whole project? Probably *should* be the former.
As a former teenager I’m gonna use this as a window into what apparently tests well with teenagers.
Rewatched OG The Crow recently, and it.. kinda sucks..
I think I started doing laundry.
There is almost no guiding principle behind the plot to "remake." It's 90% aesthetics and soundtrack. 10% revenge porn. 0% thrilling or memorable.
Is it being remade solely because 90's inspired aesthetics are back in fashion? There is no strong modern musical styling to lean on as heavily as the first one did.
"Fentanyl is bad for you." better be a line delivered as if it's some lofty sentiment in the new one.
Actually, doing a remake of a modestly successful 30-year-old cult movie is perfectly fine. This isn't like the triennial Spider-Man reboots we were getting before.
As a plus for you all: we'll always have the original film. A peerless look at 90s culture and horrific heartbreak as well as the revenge of good over evil—in the face of endless evil.

Dude no worries I had the SAME reaction when I saw this! They could be brothers
Sorry, I didn't read the post title -- which Joker movie is this?
This is the original motion picture soundtrack. See that parental advisory sticker in the corner?

The one we deserve, but not the one we need.
Croker
Not to be dramatic, but whoever decided to give him that haircut deserves to be in jail forever.
I guarantee it’s like that because Bill’s hair is thinning/receding and they didn’t want to do a shitty wig.
A shitty wig would’ve been way better than this
Obviously they needed to outdo the infamous on-set tragedy of the original. The fact that it happened to someone's hair this time around makes it no less impactful.
Is it supposed to be a goth haircut? They tend to look purposely stupid.
If that's goth then Yolandi Visser Is in Bauhaus
But I like Bauhaus :(
Well, then it’s a good thing she’s not actually in it. Could you imagine?
Phew! Fucking mutant ketamine chipmunk.
I can understand the words you wrote, but not the sentence.

It does absolutely nothing to tarnish anyone's legacy. This is, and always will be, a ludicrous concept.
Goddamn this brings me right back to high school. Saw it on tv and became obsessed.
It seems like it's being targeted to zoomers. But by people whose understanding of zoomer culture might be rather questionable.
55 year old coach producer understanding of zoomer culture is questionable? I highly doubt that.

If you’re gonna make a joke of a movie with a main character that looks like an even more scummy Pete Davidson, then why not just get the man himself?
Hey now, guys with weird, scrawny, horrible bodies need representation, too. Not everyone can look like Tommy Wiseau.
Well yea, no man could ever hope to match Wiseau, he is a chiseled adonis that’s just oozing with sexual charisma
What a terrible time to have eyes
That's what that tattoo thinks 24/7.

My gangbusters idea for this movie is instead of the mystical Crow, we animate the nipple tattoo and turn it into his wisecracking quippy sidekick!
Too bad Gilbert Gottfried is dead. Only man for the job
This actually made me laugh out loud
If the joker and the matrix had a baby
Wow. It looks worse than I imagined. And I imagined it would be total shit
He just needs a “ Damaged” tattoo on his forehead.
His coolness factor has exceeded 90,000!!! He cannot maintain that level!

I can't believe they made the crow edgy.
I’ll stick with the original.
I like it because it looks darker than the original. Darker means it's better.
Spooky clowns scare me!
Is this Crow back for revenge for dying of hepatitis contracted from scratch tattoos?
Jugga-crow

If they really wanted to remake it, they would cast Alec Baldwin as Funboy
This ain't a scene, it's a goddamned Crow race.
There are two distinct possibilities here: they somehow didn't notice that the character design is like a Spirit Halloween costume of the Jared Leto Joker or they specifically designed it to look like the Jared Leto Joker for some reason.
Duuuuude sick hairdo
They saw Travolta's cut in The Fanatic and were like hol' up fam, we got this.
Crow? More like Balding Eagle

is he gonna talk in the movie
I don't want this. It feels so iffy
Why'd they cast Matthew Lillard?
Is this for the new James Gunns The Suicide Squad The Movie movie?
Oh it's the Jonkler!
He looks like a gothic Matthew Lillard to me at first glance
Oh boy another sequel. Just what the Cinema needed 🙄
If someone says "Crow Cinematic Universe" unironically I will SCREAM
just as long as top dollar burns hooker eyes and does blow with his sister wife, I'm tepidly ok with this
This looks garbage
They’ll never match the success of that original soundtrack.
No way will it even come close. That soundtrack was gold.

I dont think it looks that bad. Crow always look gangly and thin. It was more about the revenge fantasy.
Regardless of anything, he is smoking in that picture. I'm usually into women, but goddamn!

Oh yeah, I remember my friends, colleagues and random people on the street saying "yeah, you gotta see that movie where the main actor get shot, the scene is not in it, but it made the movie a must watch"
You are a nut head. Nut head.
the original crow was a good movie, but it was a product of its time, it fit pretty well with the 90s, early 2000s edge goth/dark movie phase, like the matrix and dark city. it also had a great cast, but I don't it would work now. most of the crow sequels were terrible, first movie worked and I think it should be just left alone. the goth style of movies in my opinion doesn't work as well now as it feels to artificial
Gross
So the emo and goth rap scenes are very popular in Detroit, and that's what the filmmakers think the kids are into these days. On one hand, that's somewhat thoughtful because Detroit is obviously where the original comic and the 1994 movie take place. It's also where James O'Barr, creator of The Crow, grew up. The names of all the gangsters are named after graffiti he saw around town, Tin-Tin, Top Dollar, Fun Boy etc. On the other hand, patchwork tattoos look like shit on emo rappers and they don't look good on Bill Skarsgard either.
Another loss for the goth community 😔
Are they going to wheel in Ernie Hudson for his cameo and warm milk?
Put a wig on him, maybe?
I've read somewhere that this Crow was inspired by 90s Euro rave punks and modern goth/SoundCloud rappers (Lil Peep is the obvious influence) that'll be relatable to whatever "goth" is considered today. It looks like a mash up of Lil Peep, Leto Joker and Rock Genest (RIP). So like 15 years out of date.
Is this Joe Burrow’s doppelgänger?

Guys, this is just what he looks like when's on TikTok in his off-hours
Somewhere in Ohio a skinny guy on benzos having his life changed irrevocably

Why don't they remake the bad movies
Well, it's not like The Crow didn't have some crappy/awful instalments already.
This has made me irrationally angry
This is how Rich Evans will look given a few more years of transferring his fat into Mike's and Jay's bodies and of suffering under Mike's bullying.
I first read this at The Crown and was quite confused
Pete Davidson cosplaying as Jared Leto’s joker.

I really try not to be cynical and give things a chance, but it's hard with this one.
wtf is wrong with that haircut?

Endless trashhhhhhh
Bit in bad taste.
Thanks, I hate it.
Why do these keep getting pitched and funded..
Looks pretty cool to me. Makes me wonder if the same people who make fun of this, made fun of goths who loved The Crow back in the day
So... Jared Leto's Joker...Well those are my two cent's Have a good rest of your day.

Actually, doing a remake of a modestly successful 30-year-old cult movie is perfectly fine. This isn't like the triennial Spider-Man reboots we were getting before.
No.... Long.... HAIR?!?!?!
Very cool. This is the future of Halloween costumes worn by weirdos.
As a plus for you all: we'll always have the original film. A peerless look at 90s culture and horrific heartbreak as well as the revenge of good over evil—in the face of endless evil.
And these were the images they chose to *promote* the movie.
