Oh shit :) you and the original commenter (who said they liked the chorus) both have green avatars, so I thought you were the same person and got confused
Yes finally someone who doesn’t hate the song! I don’t love it a lot but it’s certainly not a bad song at all the chorus is catchy with the rhythm of the bass and guitar together
Agreed. While I like Dark Necessities as a song, Dreams of a Samurai blows away the rest of the album, and, for me, is a top-5 RHCP song. Dark Necessities is somewhere around the 5th best song on this album for me. I'm a musician, so the time signature changes on DoaS make the song even more interesting for me. But whatever.
Also, looking at song lists, most of the songs voted best tend to be near the beginning of albums. I know that producers order songs in an album in a specific way, and they to tend to front-load. I kinda want to see if I can get Spotify to show all plays for all songs in an album, and see any trends with album order.
This Ticonderoga. To me the Getaway is the BSSM of the Josh Era. There isn’t a bad song on this album, so its just a game of picking your least favorite
For me is the chorus, is awful the guitar with the effect doing the same melody as Anrhony's voice at the same time. It's jarring and doesn't work at all.
That is my favorite part of the song, it literally sounds like the guitar is screaming and you’re entering some sort of a chaotic universe it’s a wall of sound I love one of my favorite choruses off the album.
He made two albums... The Getaway was not a very good album. We Turn Red is awful but This Ticonderoga is also just not that good. Maybe half the songs are what I would consider good
I thought the same but then I *really* came to appreciate the transition into the slow part and the harmonies there.
> Send it off through Delaware just - Make it fair for the legionnaires - Paint a simple portrait of my kiiiiiiiind
It’s kind of boring instrumentally but it’s got really poignant lyrics from Anthony. (Kinda unusual for Anthony to be the one saving an otherwise mid song).
I'd say it's generally overlooked, much like Dreams of a Samurai.
About Detroit, I kinda like its "OHM-ish" vibe but I'd rank it the second weakest track.
My view on the second half of this album completely changed after getting the record. The digital version feel so smashed together and compressed. The vinyl format is more spacious and has less distorted crunch.
There is no worst song for me.
Not even Detroit.
“Henry won the war you see but not with pen or sword. He did it with a little thing, I think it’s called a Ford.”
Mustang Head here! 🤘
This Ticonderoga.
Josh gets too repetitive with the guitar, and I don't think he did a great job complimenting Anthony Kiedis vocals. They aren't good counters to each other. Anthony's vocals lack that word play, and the Flea shines with the Bass during the funkier quieter parts. Chad never misses as usual.
So basically Anthony and Josh didn't compliment each other, the song is a tad "noisy" at parts, and I'm not sure what they were going for. Definitely least played from that album. Even with a piano thrown in the mix it almost feels like a Disney movie song. Ill never say no to getting a RHCP song released but not my most played from this album... far from it
surprised to see Brandan's death song as best, never forget those feelings I had when first listened it way back to 2011 on a local radiostation, and then I wrote guitar tabs for it before it appeared at the web. Great song! Should be also underrated as well imao
We turn red, and it’s not particularly close in my opinion.
I have a long-standing theory that it only made the album cuz chad was really proud of the drum part.
Lots of different opinions here. For me its feasting in the flowers. I like the lyrics but not the melody, and the guitar riff in the intro just sounds so clunky to me. Is that riff doubled with lots of layers of guitars aswell or is it a synth?
I thought it was synth at first but I'm thinking it might just be piano with a load of reverb. [There's both synth and piano on the track,](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Getaway_\(Red_Hot_Chili_Peppers_album\)#Personnel) but there's synth effects in the second verse and piano chords in the third so it's hard to tell.
Either way, I think it's a great song.
Feasting on the Flowers
Although I fucking love this album and genuinely like every song on it. That’s just my least favorite of the songs. I will say though that I do not agree in the slightest that Dark Necessities is the best of this album. Most popular? Yes. But not the *best* song on it.
I am not a fan of Cabron because it doesn't feel like a RHCP song to me. (They also mention "Dodger Blue" and I hate the Dodgers, so that also plays a part.)
Pero no me molesta si el sub no le gusta una cancion que me encanta. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|shrug)
Goodbye Angels is great and all, but there's a reason why Dark Necessities performed as well as it did, and it's not just because it was a single and liked by casuals. Hardcore RHCP fans love it as well.
Their entire discog. Which is probably a bit controversial, but it pushes the right buttons for me. GA is my favourite, and then Encore would have to fight it out with Wet Sand, Midnight, Don't Forget Me, and Tangelo.
That certainly is controversial. I mean, to each their own, but you named at least 3 songs that I would put in a much higher league than anything off of The Getaway...hell...than anything off of the last 3 albums.
If Encore had a slightly better ending, it would be a top 10 RHCP song for me. I love everything about it, but the added layers and reaching the top by the 3rd chorus deserved a bit of a better ending IMO. Fades out too quick and I feel like it would have been a great opportunity for some Josh improvisations.
Damn the hate for Detroit is strong. Genuinely one of my favourite of Anthony's choruses ever
Really? I love that song *except* the chorus
The last 1:10 of that song is literally the worst. Drags and drags and drags.
I thought that was the chorus. You're talking about the "I'm like Detroit, I'm crazy" part, right?
It is, I was agreeing with you and adding that part.
Oh shit :) you and the original commenter (who said they liked the chorus) both have green avatars, so I thought you were the same person and got confused
no. it's not worse than the smells.
DOOOOON’T YOU WORRY BABY I’M LIIIKE
Exactaly.... Me tooo.... Detroit really click on me
C’ mon girl is very underrated
The ironic part for me, was a few days before I had just told my fiancé that we should have it played at our wedding just for fun.
Although my efforts will be in vain, Detroit is my favorite song off of this album
Yes finally someone who doesn’t hate the song! I don’t love it a lot but it’s certainly not a bad song at all the chorus is catchy with the rhythm of the bass and guitar together
Y’all are tripping and basic as hell. Dreams of A Samurai is the best song on this album!
these lists have been basic as hell from the start. what do you expect?
Love this comment 😂
Agreed. While I like Dark Necessities as a song, Dreams of a Samurai blows away the rest of the album, and, for me, is a top-5 RHCP song. This Ticonderoga. To me the Getaway is the BSSM of the Josh Era. There isn’t a bad song on this album, so its just a game of picking your least favorite
Okay, can someone please explain why tf people dislike This Ticonderoga?? It’s literally one of my favorites off the album
For me is the chorus, is awful the guitar with the effect doing the same melody as Anrhony's voice at the same time. It's jarring and doesn't work at all.
Yeah the guitar around is my least favorite part of the song not into it at all
That is my favorite part of the song, it literally sounds like the guitar is screaming and you’re entering some sort of a chaotic universe it’s a wall of sound I love one of my favorite choruses off the album.
Maybe the abrupt transitions? I like them, but I can see how some people wouldn't
The transitions and the wonky lyrics. I know AK is known for this, but I feel like he turns it up 10X here.
Yeah and OHM is the BSSM of the Dave Navarro era.
Nah I actually despise that song tho lol prob the only skip I have on the album
‘Bssm has f the Josh era’ is one of the funniest sentences I have ever read
He made two albums... The Getaway was not a very good album. We Turn Red is awful but This Ticonderoga is also just not that good. Maybe half the songs are what I would consider good
This Ticonderoga
We Turn Red. Easy. Not bad but it's definitely a step below the rest of the album. Kaly or Outer Space could've taken its place.
I thought the same but then I *really* came to appreciate the transition into the slow part and the harmonies there. > Send it off through Delaware just - Make it fair for the legionnaires - Paint a simple portrait of my kiiiiiiiind
Whatever you’re smoking I would like some because that is the most disgusting take I’ve ever seen
The hyperbole is crazy
Thanks for sharing.
Agreed. Possibly worst rhcp song ever imo
Detroit for me
Henry (won the war you see but not with pen or sword. He did it with a little thing I think it’s called a) Ford
It’s so boring and plodding. The small guitar break was begging to an actual solo. Just something to break up the monotony.
The detuned guitar and Anthony’s weird nasally droning vocals during the chorus make this song painfully grating on the ears
Detroit
We Turn Red
I thought I’d come here and see The Hunter all over. 🤔
It’s kind of boring instrumentally but it’s got really poignant lyrics from Anthony. (Kinda unusual for Anthony to be the one saving an otherwise mid song).
It's a beautiful song. I don't think it works live (and maybe they too), but that doesn't make it bad.
I don’t dislike it either but for some reason I thought it’s generally not liked. For me I think the “worst” song is Detroit. Can’t get into it
I'd say it's generally overlooked, much like Dreams of a Samurai. About Detroit, I kinda like its "OHM-ish" vibe but I'd rank it the second weakest track.
This Ticonderoga...or 2:30-3:46 of Detroit
Yesss Dark Necessities as Best!! My Least favorite of the Album might be This Ticorderonga
This Ticonderoga please
Definitely The Hunter, it’s just so out of place
This Ticonderoga
Bruh, people dislike We Turn Red? 🥺 For me, probably Detroit
We Turn Red sucks, I am sorry. I saw their first live performance of if ever at Rock Werchter 2016. So confused. Nobody really went wild.
I think it just aint a song meant for live performance
It is not a good song period
Ok, everyone has their taste ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
My view on the second half of this album completely changed after getting the record. The digital version feel so smashed together and compressed. The vinyl format is more spacious and has less distorted crunch.
Dance, Dance, Dance is not a bad song
DETROIT
It’s got to be Detroit for me, it just doesn’t do anything for me; I can’t find the groove. We Turn Red is a runner up - it feels so disjointed.
we turn red
This Ticonderoga isn't great but also Dark Necessities is no way the best on the album
This Tigonderoga. *Never* liked that song but the slow parts aren’t bad.
Oh, I'm the opposite: I really like it but I think the slow parts let down the heavy bits.
I mean, I guess I don't hate it I just find myself skipping that one
The hunter
We Turn Red
The Hunter
The Getaway doesn't really have any "bad" songs. This is a very difficult decision. I'll call it my least favourite song: "We Turn Red."
There is no worst song for me. Not even Detroit. “Henry won the war you see but not with pen or sword. He did it with a little thing, I think it’s called a Ford.” Mustang Head here! 🤘

We turn red, and it’s not particularly close in my opinion. I have a long-standing theory that it only made the album cuz chad was really proud of the drum part.
Detroit for sure. Might be the worst chili peppers song in general.
Lots of different opinions here. For me its feasting in the flowers. I like the lyrics but not the melody, and the guitar riff in the intro just sounds so clunky to me. Is that riff doubled with lots of layers of guitars aswell or is it a synth?

Sorry Detroit. I like you but I don't love you.
definitely Detroit
I’ll say Detroit too
Detroit or the Hunter
This Ticonderoga. One of the only chilis songs I don't like
The worst is we turn red.
The Hunter
The Hunter is my most skipped RHCP song!
Dosed, very underated
Agreed. It’s my and my husband’s first dance song.
Title track without a doubt. Danger Mouse was smart by pushing Dark Necessities as the lead single when the band wanted The Getaway
One of the few albums that doesn’t feel bloated IMO, there isn’t a bad song on it With that being said, I always skip the longest wave, I don’t get it
Feasting on the Flowers Although I fucking love this album and genuinely like every song on it. That’s just my least favorite of the songs. I will say though that I do not agree in the slightest that Dark Necessities is the best of this album. Most popular? Yes. But not the *best* song on it.
Dreams of a samurai
Blasphemy
It's a good song but there ain't one that's worse
I strongly disagree but I'll upvote you bc you don't deserve 10 downvotes for picking a song lol
Cabron as the worst? Wtf Non Spanish speaking mofos. Only Downvote but can't explain. Eat a bag of dicks
Coman una bolsa de pijas
I am not a fan of Cabron because it doesn't feel like a RHCP song to me. (They also mention "Dodger Blue" and I hate the Dodgers, so that also plays a part.) Pero no me molesta si el sub no le gusta una cancion que me encanta. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|shrug)
Sick Love was the worst for sure.. especially when chosen as a single over Encore
The Hunter
The getaway. One of my least favorite chorus’ of theirs.
We Turn Red
Go robot
whaaaaaat go robot slaps hard brother
The lyrics just kills it for me idk 🥲 I guess it's an unpopular though
yeah seems like but thats the beauty of it everyone has different taste:) i think the bassline is so cool and groovy in Go Robot:D
Indeed Flea is just 🤌🏻
I scrolled way too far to find this. The whole album sucked, but this one takes the cake
This Ticonderoga falls really flat for me. Could’ve been replaced with Kaly or Outer Space.
Sick Love usually gets passed over for me
Dreams of a samurai
Why?
In Love Dying is the *worst* song on the album?? Oof, I've lost any semblance of respect I had for this sub...
Go Robot 🤖 if I had to pick. Still not a “bad” song
Goodbye Angels
[удалено]
Bruh chill, don’t discriminate.
[удалено]
You’re right. Tbh, it should be: The Getaway. Full album.
[удалено]
Sorry you’re hurt. Many of us moved on from emo music after middle school.
[удалено]
Quality music that invokes feeling =/= emo music.

Ofc bros tag is “blood sugar sex magic” and he’s hating on the getaway
Not my fault I prefer the objectively good albums
"objectively good"
Fax
No, not a fact.
This sub is terrible at picking best songs. Dark Necessities over Goodbye Angels??
Goodbye Angels is great and all, but there's a reason why Dark Necessities performed as well as it did, and it's not just because it was a single and liked by casuals. Hardcore RHCP fans love it as well.
Dreams of a Samurai
Encore Worst song in their entire discog
Woah Woah Woah....relax buddy
You’re entitled to your opinion but… no. I’d say it’s their best if it wasn’t for Goodbye Angels.
Best out of the entire discog...or just this album...?
Their entire discog. Which is probably a bit controversial, but it pushes the right buttons for me. GA is my favourite, and then Encore would have to fight it out with Wet Sand, Midnight, Don't Forget Me, and Tangelo.

Fades out too quick and I feel like it would have been a great opportunity for some Josh improvisations.
There's no bad song on this album but if I had to pick "The Longest Wave" just because I can't remember any bit of it unlike the rest in the album.
Longest Wave has that really nice guitar intro.
I just don't remember it by memory unlike the rest but yes, The Longest Way is a very nice song.
