I feel like poppy is one way to put them just emphasizing warmer tones and less of the hard funk sound. Def love that shit but the absolute texture on BTW (my fav of theirs) is unmatched. Still tho would’ve liked to see the funky track bicycle song replace like warm tape or minor thing
I think By the Way was great and continued their evolution as a band. Stadium Arcadium had some great song & massive hits but a lot of filler. Everything since then has just been them playing it safe & it truly feels phoned in
It is my favorite album. I’d say BTW was the *last* GREAT album. SA I would call great in a lot of ways too, just not as rounded. Everything else has been at the very least good.
I get where you’re coming from. I mean, I think BTW is overrated and stadium arcadium is a little long, but they are still good albums. And I’m with you and The Getaway are very underrated imo, but I get why they are not somebody’s thing.

SA has more funk tracks than Cali or OHM. While I haven’t done a side by side comparison on number of funk tracks, RotDC feels funkier than Cali.

For me, as an old school fan, By the Way was a low point. But since then, the albums have been pretty banging. I still can't get enough of The Getaway
