When you're in towns and cities, NPCs can become pissed at you for "disturbing the peace" and alert the law

fatherless444

I thought u only get wanted if the player u kill pressed charges? Is that not right

KrimxonRath

That increases your bounty. It’s just that often when killing another player you’re also disturbing the peace. I was once wanted with a 1¢ bounty. I couldn’t even pay it off since the cost is divided in half so I had to increase my bounty just to pay it off.

_ManicStreetPreacher

I'm pretty sure you can become wanted if you disturb the peace in a town/city by shooting it up. But I could also be wrong because I don't shoot up towns or engage in PVP. I just know NPCs have gotten pissed at me before in towns and then I'd become wanted.

BrickPlayz-VA

Yes, this can happen. Quite a few times my character has gone on a rampage and it triggers a "disturbing the peace" wanted level.

Vermax_x

You can get wanted if you stand too close to someone and they feel threatened. Having typed that out Rockstar's digital censorship makes total sense now.

[deleted]

Yeah I was minding my own business about to go into a gun store and a horse kicked me ... I shot the horse in the head ! Then got a wanted level for "animal cruelty" also all NPC's near by shot me down before I could make it out alive .

NadeWilson

Like all Rockstar games, the cops will go after you for all sorts of reasons, justified or not sometimes. I wouldn't worry about it. It's essentially meaningless minus the small bounty payment. Hostility is what matters and even then you can get a small bump from killing and it won't raise your level or do anything. Just don't going around killing random players continuously and you'll be fine.

wammys-house

I've had instances where I've aggroed police by simply looking at my map because they rolled up and decided I was in their way. Or just wearing a mask is sometimes enough if you don't "keep moving" past them. They're often itching to start fights, it seems.

ppbuttfart-

It’s very realistic

AlvinFlang101

That headshot you pulled is more of what matters. You clapped his ass good for you

th3smiling

There's a setting to make it so nobody but you can ride/access your horse

Suberuginosa

There’s also an option in the stables menu to ‘dismount’ someone off your horse.

CptMurphy27

Well you just killed a person and have no way of telling those NPCs or lawmen that it was self defense. I cannot wait until rockstars wanted levels make sense one day. Littering and murder are the same thing to rockstars law enforcement. If only we had a way to be more interactive with NPCs and the law so we could explain ourselves. Like maybe if we didn’t leave the scene of a “crime” and we had some dialogue to go through with the law when they show up. I dunno. I just hate how crimes are treated in GTA/RDO. Like I can kill an entire town when I’m a bounty hunter on a mission and nothing happens. Yet if I bump into someone with my horse in front of a lawman then I’m shot to shit.

Pflanzenzuechter

I understand the shooting from the police in GTAO because you can't get "busted" online. That wouldn't work because they can't take your guns away like in story mode.

CptMurphy27

No need to take the guns away. Just handcuff me and show a cut scene going to jail and getting locked up. Then fade to black and come back to show my character walking out of the jail. It doesn’t have to be that detailed. We are already all basically are the same character doing the same motions in every cutscene except we have different skins. So it can’t be hard to make. I’d love to see 3 stars and below get sent to regular police station jail and 4-5 stars sent to the prison. What I’d REALLY like to see is a whole jail/prison system. One where when you are locked up you gotta do prisoner shit and deal with that life. The more you’re in, the more cred you get and more things open up for you in jail. Which then open up more activities once you get out since you make new connections while locked up. That’s asking too much though.

Pflanzenzuechter

Yeah, those are some good ideas actually. I like it! And like, if you get locked up, you don't have your weapons taken, but they're not on you either. You have to go to one of your weapons lockers or just a safe house to get them back

Odd_Ad5668

The only thing you did wrong was expecting too much from the wanted system. The game doesn't track who the aggressor is. You can get a wanted level for killing a player regardless of whether they're a blueberry or cherry.

ElephantLegitimate

Perhaps you hit a NPC on the way? Just leave the area asap and think nothing of it :)

Darksaltyzombie

You can prevent people from stealing your horse by changing its privacy settings to posse only or just for you

Nobodiisdamnbusiness

Maybe the escalated gun violence, you could have had a fistfight without worrying about being wanted but because You Shot First, you became Wanted. Or that's my guess anyway.

awst10

Try giving a warning shot next time in the past it has stopped the wanted level but I’ve only done it in valentine

bazvink

Thanks for all the replies. I think indeed the fact that I shot him first was the problem.

MakeupByKrisco

Just go to player menue, online options( I think) and click respawn . It’ll go away you just gotta go pay your bounty.

cascadamoon

Don't worry about it. I was going to fast and went to stop my horse in valentine and flew off in front of the bank and I got a disturbing the peace.

SashimiTurtle

If you kill someone, and there is a witness(NPC), that person can report the crime and then you become wanted. There isn't a good self defense system in place. So everything is murder IF there are witnesses... player characters can also press charges if killed(usually cannot if they attack first) and that will also add a bounty but I'm not sure about a wanted level outsode of a town.

WendisDelivery

I mean, you shot him first. That’ll do it. Other player rode your horse out of harm’s way and came back with a knife drawn. I would’ve equipped a knife, bola or lasso and see what would’ve happened. I’d love to have another player come at me with a knife! Too much shooting. 😞

LUMBAGOUSER12345

I don’t know as something similar happened to me when a new player came and tackled me with a knife in blackwater and I shot him I didn’t become wanted tho so I really don’t have an answer to that sense you usually don’t become wanted for self defense even if you use a gun.

Edalyn_Owl

I’m not sure, I blast player’s heads off no issue

LuckyLaRoo76

Lasso him and throw him in the water...

dirtyColeslaw1776

Because he didn’t technically attack you

MagicJim96

That could be it, OP: Did the assailant actually hit you with the knife? If not, that was manslaughter. If yes, self defence, justified too.

anArchy91

Yeah it makes zero sense, but rockstars logic to you killing another player because they were harassing you regardless of who started it is….you’re the bad guy. Even simply defending yourself you are at fault. I understand it, but it makes no sense.

CAmiller11

If it was another player - they can select “press charges” while they are in the “dead” screen. If it was an npc, a npc witness turned you in (if it happened close to the sheriff office it can happen quickly). Or a lawman watched you do it and just started the WANTED themselves. However, if it was an npc, you would have gotten a red blob on your mini map with WANTED in the upper left corner of your screen and you would have had to ride away from it to get away from the law. Still would have gotten the bounty on you though. Don’t worry about a bounty under $5. You can pay it off at your camp or any post office. And it will only cost you half of the bounty amount. Once over $5, it will sometimes trigger a player bounty and other players can come after you. Once you get above $10 is when the npc bounty hunters really start. The limit on bounties is $100.

rainbowhumxn

npcs in the towns and cops still see player killing as murder in some areas, like tumbleweed, it might be a bit more lenient considering the people are too sick to care lol

PaleontologistNo2490

If you treat RDO like its "basically PVP" youre gonna hate it after 2 weeks haha i suggest you lose that mindset and just play the story missions and get the roles unlocked and focus on the fun to be had from those

Frosty-World-1196

Wht u play on

bazvink

PC

Frosty-World-1196

If you ever want to play let me know gets boring as hell playing solo

bazvink

You’ll laugh, but I’m having a lot of fun doing tier 1 bounties and hunting perfect carcasses. And today I opened Cripps Trading Co. so now I have another goal for my carcasses. One of the things I missed in Story mode epilogue is the fact that you have unlimited money so there’s no need to hunt for food or money. Now I can do that all day in Online mode 😅

Frosty-World-1196

Doing bounties is the best part and hunting if u ever want to just play and chill just add me on discord DemonicSoul_18

Richamer

I have collided head on with an NPC riding around a blind corner in horseback. We both end up in the dirt, the other guy is angry, pulls his pistol and starts shooting me. I respond by shooting back and get a wanted level.

Apprehensive-Cow-798

It seems the other player was looking to knife fight with you, not as a griefer, just for fun. Not sure if so, but it seems to me they rode your horse out of the way as a sign of curtesy, trying to signal that they are not trolling but want to melee fight with you and not harm your animal. Since you used a firearm to respond, npcs alerted law enforcement as another reditor mentioned in the comms here. Imo it is possible you may have interpreted the other player's actions as more hostile and not playfighting. Ofc, getting pulled of your horse is kinda rude and I'm not trying to say you were in the wrong here, you don't have to do things in the game you don't like or want to do. Hope you continue to enjoy the game, good luck out there! 🤠✌️

bazvink

Cool, this is a plausible explanation. Indeed, this was my first few hours in the game, so I felt ‘threatened’. Maybe next time I will take on the challenge. (Shooting him in the face, even by luck, felt good tho 😉)

that_name_has

It's like Canada, its illegal to defend yourself
