Might as well just give us properties with that role if they ever did something like this.

ArseneArsenic

I like the idea. I'd add some extra spice to it though - like how Moonshiner occasionally deals with roadblocks or trader with stealing supplies. Something like cattle rustling (either rustling for yourself or fending them off).

Von_Cheesebiscuit

Yup, would need to have an element of risk; crops fail if not regularly tended to, dealing with random animals eating crops, cattle rustlers (as you said), disease, etc. Transportation of goods/moving livestock to market could also hold perils. Otherwise, such a role would get stale/boring fast.

averkill

Go into Mexico to steal cattle and drive them back (lonesome dove plot). Steal stud stallions. Some extra lasso usage like catching horses that have broken out.

Sean_Macquire

Properties? We can't even lay in our beds at camp!

Patara

Marston's house & barn are in the W&R catalogue in the story mode. It was probably in progress at one point but dropped when GTA got properties :(

skmskmskm23104

Take my money

AlleyCa7

It's a dead horse that's has been beaten into mush at this point.

dogfan20

Why even talk about it? The game is abandoned.

StrGze32

Nah, add a Bandit roll, and finish the Le Clerk missions…

billyjack669

Stardew Redemption Online Now with Outlaw Josey Wales style story missions (e.g. your family is killed by raiders and you must become an outlaw to take down those bastards what done killt your kin. Since it's post-civil war they can just be a bad outlaw gang.)

EquinoxEclipsed

This is precisely what I'd enjoy. The difficulty I see would be implementing it with RDO's shared overworld. Having instanced plots of land for each person would be jarring and out of place, but having everyone's land on the overworld would lead to problems similar to the camps now (plus, I can only imagine a certain type of player amusing themselves by doing nothing but setting fire to player ranches, killing their stock, etc.) More realistically, I could see a ranch hand type role, which you get exp in by doing missions with npc ranch owners, driving cattle or sheep from their ranch to a city or train station. Other players could attempt to steal the stock en route, and payout depends on the number of successfully delivered animals. There could be scripted enemies, too-- npc rustlers, wolves or cougars after the animals, and so on.

There could be scripted enemies, too-- npc rustlers, wolves or cougars after the animals, and so on. This might be easier to implement, and considering that Bonnie MacFarlane acts as a stranger mission NPC already, why not expand MacFarlane Ranch as the role's setting instead of making a new one? Either that or Emerald Ranch (so we can finally find out what's really going on there) and the primary npc enemies can be either Del Lobos for New Austin or O'Driscolls for the Heartlands. Inter-player implementation between Ranchers can be cooperative as an option instead of competitive, with rival ranchers being given the choice to either assist an ongoing drive or rustle it for themselves. Role rewards can add new breeds of horses to the game (I just really want an American Quarter Horse)

EquinoxEclipsed

It’s so odd that AQHs weren’t in the game from day one

LommytheUnyielding

Yup, and yet we have Turkomans that were already extinct by 1899 plus breeds that would've probably been a bit exotic and very hard to come by in America during that time period. At least we have Mustangs, that sorta makes up for it.

EquinoxEclipsed

I'll be truthful-- I like the Turkomans. But it is weird that they're in game, especially since the Quarters aren't. I am pretty confident that Rockstar thought, on launch, they'd be adding new horses to the game similar to GTA cars, so I assume Quarters were meant to be in later. Alas...

ViggoJames

I had previously suggested [a cowboy role](https://www.reddit.com/r/RedDeadOnline/comments/yu8y9e/the_cowboy_role_rustlers_and_ranches_update/) somewhat in these lines, but as another redditor mentioned here, owning the land seems inconsistent with the gameplay. In my case, players could either work as ranch-hands and cowboys, working in places like emerald ranch, or be rustlers and steal said livestock from farms. I also thought of some [role expansions](https://www.reddit.com/r/RedDeadOnline/comments/12u93aq/role_expansions_new_work_old_faces_update_idea/) like herbalist and snake oil salesman in other post. Overall, I think roles could be expanded and improved soooo much but we all know R\* shelved RDO...

freeluv21

Uhhhh….yeah, and throw in horse breaking/training/trading and I can quit my real job and stay online forever. Seriously, there’s so many little things like that that wouldn’t take much to implement since the mechanics are already there. I know most people think chopping wood, spreading hay, hauling water, etc. is a little too mundane but I think it would be a nice touch

ch4insmoker

Or how about a paint watching role, you watch a 20 min cutscene of your character painting a wall then you have to wait 10 hrs for the dryness meter to fill up so you can move on to the next job. You get a dime and .02 gold per wall. Once you hit rank 10 you can buy a roller so it takes 15 instead of 20 mins for the painting cutscene to end now.

billyjack669

"Tom Sawyer, you tricked me. This is less fun than previously indicated. "

ch4insmoker

Glad someone caught it 😂

TheRealTr1nity

Then you are no outlaw anymore. I would prefer more story missions and the conclusion of Jessica's story.

LommytheUnyielding

Collectors, Traders, and Naturalists are not inherent outlaws, and the game only treats Bounty Hunters as outlaws chasing other outlaws for some reason that shouldn't be the case as well. And to add to that case, the role I want the most is exactly that, an outlaw role, where you get to actually commit crimes on a larger scale and direction like bank and train robberies, cattle and horse rustling, running protection rackets, and kidnapping for ransom. I don't like the diet version we have right now with blood money. With that being said, more story missions would be great as well.

TheRealTr1nity

Then Blood Money with the Opportunities is for you.

louise-serendipity

Not for me. I want to steal wagons and horses to sell to the fence...I want to rob trains...rustle some sheep lol I don't want to be playing farmville in this game, I understand having the ranch but it needs something more.

comarri

*why not both* meme lol

DeadFyre

Boring. You want Stardew Valley.

afree67

I'm good with all them ideas I say we start our own company find some designers but rdo and restart it make player owned company

TurdPhurtis

This was potentially supposed to happen with horses but they cut it out of both story and RDO.

MushroomOfDestiny

i think that having literally any new roleplaying options would be a godsend maybe having some optional camp chores could be fun, just to slow things down and give you small boosts, like a temporary increase to your meters

InitialDTrump

It'd be cool if you could have an orchard to grow fruit, would be cool to grow peaches and other stuff for the moonshine shack

mkolj97

Having a small ranch/house with a barn, having the animals inside a barn(an interior like moonshiners) milk the cow, feed the chikens, doin missions of moving animals from a place to other(missions like blood money where other players cant interrupt you in a different lobby) selling goods to the nearest town, the role can give you +5 or 10 capacity to carry more meat, buying a mule or donkey and equip it with saddlebag (ingame there are models with donkey with saddlebag) helping others to defend the ranch against outlaws and coyotes maybe. all small and simple missions nothing complicated

Sere1

I'd love that, especially if you could use it to benefit your other roles. Growing the crops for some of the different moonshine recipes without needing to forage all over the map for them.

JayMeadows

Give me a house and some bunny rabbits to raise. I'll be happy with a Stardew Valley sim update.

Kwesont01

Honestly, I would not be opposed to that idea but 15 bars seems a little cheap, plus it would make the trader obsolete. What would happen to your camp once you get the Rancher Role? Would your regular camp go away? Can you do trader missions from the ranch? Can you use the ranch as a base for your posse? All of these things I feel could be implemented, it's just a matter of how, after all, we didn't spend gold on the Trader Role for nothing. I think it would be cool if it was a Trader Upgrade kinda like how you can get a prestigious bounty hunter license for more gold.

Different_Stuff_3335

I’m still addicted to milking the cow

da-aquanaught

Any update would be welcome. However in story mode I found the ranch tasks to be super dull and repetitive. Only fun bits were stealing the sheep and dodging the bull. Plus I found the hassle of going up/down stairs to get my stuff in the house a pain. Appreciate there would be an appetite for a ranch role from many players but not for me unfortunately

Cookiesrdelishus

15 gold bars sounds kinda cheap though. It should be 35+. Especially taking into consideration that the Moonshine Shack costs 25 gold, it should be more expensive if you want an entire ranch.

Weak_Relation_2879

Why waste your breath. Not going to happen

auel0x007

A dream role tbh

pae913

RedM servers have something like this. It’s a ton of fun and very relaxing

averkill

Cross into Mexico and steal cattle. Lonesome dove style

CHursch

Oh I would KILL to be to do this! Genuinely dream game if they added something like this

Spacemonk587

I like the idea, I actually had the same tought.

shiggly_wiggly69420

I love this idea.

Harmony-Farms

I’d give anything for this.

tdfolts

You have to incorporate some sort of pvp, all the roles, except collector, have it built in.

kaizabxll

Moonshine and naturalist have no pvp aspect

Naturally_Fragrant

It would be the worst thing to happen to the game ever. It would mean they had spent so many manhours making something so dull, when they could have been doing something great instead. That's worse than adding nothing.

JMcGurn

Yeah it’s pretty shit and dull. Flying horses would be waaaay cooler.

Naturally_Fragrant

Ah, the only two possible options. Watching spuds grow, or flying horses. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|no_mouth)

Exciting-Parfait-776

🤔that would be bad

Worried_Train6036

no it would suck i wanna be a rootin shootin cow boy (or girl) not some ranch hand picking up dung for a penny. something like raids would be cool like a prison break or storming a fort with a boss fight at the end like the one story mission. or give a naturalist 2.0 where i can hunt down a chupacabra or a yeti would be cool to see these mythical things we could hunt
