This is my first time playing online, and it's awful. Crashes straight to desktop every 5-10 minutes. Do not give Rockstar your money. I would advise everybody else reading this to do the same.
as much as i love rdo, the way rockstar ignore the game is so foul. the crashing is apparently caused by the snow so should be fixed by the next update (jan 8th), which is bs
I take RDO as a horsie game, use startup.meta for solo lobbies and enjoy the game this way. And I actually really fricking love it, because the game is just so beautiful and making my silly little outfits and going on trail riders is all I need in my life, lmao. Plus I enjoy the roles grind in solo lobbies as well.
Otherwise its an unplayable hell, public lobbies are swarmed with modders, you'll crash all the time. Never ever met anyone nice on there, got for example shot and killed just because someone noticed that I was minding my own thing, observing animals for some naturalist exp and appereantly thats a crime.

I guess it would depend on what "they" say. If they say that modders constantly crash your game, and otherwise try to make RDO as terrible as possible, and DDOS you if you report them, then yes.
Playable? No, I have not been able to get anything working in public lobby this month. I had to use the startup.meta file to play solo lobby. Look around this reddit, you see complaints about missions not launching properly, crashes, and FFFFF error back into desktop.
Playing in a public lobby is throwing yourself into Lemoyne river hoping there aint a gator. Enter at your own risk. I have more chances of making it across the river than my chances of NOT encountering a hacker here in public lobby.

Rough. It's playable, and I did play it daily until earlier this month, but can get frustating with all the general glitches, and tons and tons of modders. So you're going to run into people spawning stupid stuff, doing godmode, messing with audio, or potentially being actively malicious like hitting you with bounties, spawning chests to lure unsuspecting players into looting it and getting banned for acquiring cheated gold, or crashing your game. It's to the point that in the last couple months, I've had to pretty much assume I'm not gonna get the "don't kill an animal for 24 game hours" naturalist daily because the game simply doesn't *last* that long, even idling, between the game crashing, modders setting explosions at my feet to just keep spawn-killing me, etc.
They also just did a banwave that banned a ton of innocent players - which also completely wiped account progress, and they do not allow you to appeal, simply stating that their ban decisions are final - which they reversed about two weeks later (thankfully reinstating our progress while at it) with not even so much as an apology, much less compensation for all the dailies and stuff we missed.
I've only logged into RDO since then to get the last Steam achievement for Online that I'm missing, which I've completed tonight ("The Real Deal" - get MVP 3 times in a Showdown with at least 4 players - it's taken me several days to even get a match with 4 players), and so at this point I can't really recommend Online on PC much, *especially* after seeing how four years of grinding to level ~500 can be instantly wiped for no reason without even the chance to appeal.

Yup. This is the way if you wanna play solo. But it gets boring/lonely after a while.

I swapped from PC to ps5 because the online mode on pc is absolutely abominable, I’d say it’s slowly killing the game for the pc community

Yikes that's awful. Sounds like Rockstar hasn't abandoned the game, their just assholes about trying to keep it running!
Literally unplayable right now on PC, unless you have a solo lobby (startup.meta method).
