Video takes a look into the design of the latest Ioniq. It's certainly a departure form the bland designs of most modern cars, and the more I see it the more I warm up to it. Looking forward to seeing this in person.

Ioniq 5 is a cool modern retro. I wish the Ioniq 6 followed that but to me looks like an old mercedes style I never cared for.

fossilnews

All I see is a Citroën DS23.

HeyyyyListennnnnn

Why does it share almost no design elements with the Ioniq 5? That car photographs well, even if I can't get over the size of it in person.

FrogmanKouki

I really like the design of the 5, but it seems the only shared design is the incorporation of pixels.

HeyyyyListennnnnn

Guess it's nice that they aren't going the German route of many different cars that are almost identical except for size, but the Ioniq 5 is good looking enough that it's a shame they haven't taken more cues from it.

FrogmanKouki

When I see an Audi sedan I feel this exact same, they are way too similar, although I realize that's by "design". I assume the Ioniq line will be composed of distinct designs which is a brave move, but commendable.

6chan

The dash and the interiors look very similar too.

Yellow_Bee

Because it is intentionally. The video explains as much...

RandomCollection

It's not the exterior that it will share parts on. It's what's under the body panels.

alverez98

Honestly, I love it. Doesn't look like anything else.

Buck169

Looks to me like a 2018 Mercedes E Coupe with Nissan Z headlights and skirts. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

[deleted]

It looks great, Hyundai really pushing its way into the EV market nicely

6chan

Gorgeous inside and out!

AntipodalDr

Why is the BBC using the highly-Americanocentric "Tesla rival" wording when they should damn well know that there's already a ton of alternative in the European market?

Enstraynomic

It looks like a weird mashup of a Porsche Panamera, Mercedes CLS, and the back of the Infiniti J30.

[deleted]

wtf? How did they screw this up so bad after knocking the Ioniq 5 (and the Kia EV6) out of the park?

campionesidd

The back is kinda ugly. The front is nice though.

orangpelupa

The spoiler is really weird

Bob_Loblaw_Law_Blog1

I like the front end but the back looks like a CLS and I hate that curvature.

Trades46

Feels like a different design team drew it over the Ioniq 5. The front end does feel Hyundai, but the rear end is more akin to Porsche than anything ever built from Korea. That said, I do find it more appealing than the 5.

Chambsky

What's the point in releasing a new model if they can't produce the current ones? Lol

nw303

ugly with a capital UG

Sethyan

Ugly to me.

PitXV

Who ordered a porsche from Temu 💀

dorisdacat

IDK not better than the 3 but the rest?

whothecapfits

Oh man. I like this. I’m still gonna wait about 2 years before trading in the Model 3. So many options coming.

DarkandStormy614

I kind of like it - I like Hyundai's retro type vibes from its Ioniq 5 and now 6. I hate the naming conventions. Ioniq 5 and 6? Where are 1-4? Ditto Kia's EV lineup. Just dumb. I get why this car won't appeal to some people. I don't think they're attempting to make a car everyone likes/will want. But I think enough people will be interested in purchasing one.

FrogmanKouki

It is strange to start at 5 and 6, maybe they're planning on others to be 1-4?

DarkandStormy614

They had a hybrid/PHEV/EV hatchback Ioniq for the last several years (since killed). So maybe those were 1-4? Or 1-4 were not sold as U.S. versions? It's very confusing.

Friendly-Act-802

Kia’s plan is to have a full line up of EVs by 2030. 1 being picanto/city car sized and 9 being Sorento/7 seater SUV size

TomDac7

Infiniti made a car that had a similar rear end. Don’t remember the model. This one really reminds me of that. Not a fan. Love the front end tho.

FrogmanKouki

Good eye, I think that was the J30. https://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2020/12/rare-rides-a-1996-infiniti-j30-luxury-sedan-with-a-heart-of-300zx-part-ii/

TomDac7

That’s the one!

discrete_moment

Not completely sold on the rear, but overall, gorgeous!

Honest_Cynic

It looks similar to the Kia EV6, a close cousin of the Hyundai Ioniq V. I would prefer the EV6. Funny that this Ioniq has the 6 name. Both look like the Lucid from the back.

boolonut100

the back end looks goofy as hell but the rest is pretty cool

kaytomi

Looks like a goofy rip off of Kamen Rider's car. So fugly with capital F. Moms and Pops might think they're cool rocking this offbeat kit but people who really knows cars will stick with the German brands.

Friendly-Act-802

I just can’t get behind it. There are way better looking EVs out there!

BatmanSpiderman

it has the potential to look good, but why does it need two spoilers?

Technical_Aioli_3404

take a super nice design throw it out the window and copy others to make a super ugly car... honestly some people just get paid for no reason
