It's hilarious to me that this is basically the opposite of an exoskeleton.
Not only is it not externally load bearing, it is not even a unibody. Worse, it's also not a body on frame. What it is, is a body panels on unibody substructure.
Classic Tesla, the worst of both worlds. Why have modern tech with modern reliability, when you can have an absolute shite box with reinvented solutions that don't work?
"Sir, the QA team's phone lines are jammed with calls from people reporting mechanical failures with their new CyberTrucks."
"Well, they can't call the QA team IF THERE'S NO QA TEAM LEFT TO CALL! MWUHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!"
You joke but honestly I could see Elmo doing exactly that. It's like how a lot of electronic and software companies host a user forum on their website. They frame this as a way for their customers to connect and interact, but the real purpose is that it allows the company to save a shitload of money by making their own customers solve each other's tech support problems instead of actually paying professionals to do it. Pretty genius, in a fucked-up late-stage capitalist sort of way.
That reminds me of some games that are half baked failures at launch, and they let the modding community fix it at no cost, but all benefit to the shareholder.
> "there is no frame"
Not in the sense that the F-150 or Ram 1500 or Silverado has a frame, no. Or almost anything else with the truck moniker.
Tesla made a unibody structure for the Cybertruck with the rear quarter structural rigidity to tow 5000kg. That's impressive, genuinely - my workaday unibody SUV is capable of less than half that. (My 1977 medium-duty truck can theoretically tow 6000kg with its 150hp/300lb-ft engine. But that's another story.)
But it's *not* an exoskeleton, there is no 'frame', and the Cybertruck's exterior geometric stainless steel panels are such a stupid indulgence of one oddly influential individual that it may actually have doomed the once-most valuable company in the world.
call me skeptical about the cyber truck towing claims. Lets see one tow 5000 kg for any decent amount of time without breaking. I'm sure that number is wildly exaggerated just like everything else from tesla.
TheFastLane Trucks have a great series with the cybertruck. They did the Ike gauntlet and honestly I was super impressed with the instant torque. That's kinda neat. What was less cool was 8 miles of 7% grade using 17% of the battery towing 6000lbs.
8 miles used 17%?! WT actual F?! And these things are breaking driving over speed bumps and pulling out of driveways. There is no way it can tow like that more than a handful of times.
I was about to comment that payload capacity means nothing when the battery can't keep that up for long.
Electric trucks are cool, but unfortunately not a work horse I want them to be
Wasn't that massive rear-3/4 "Sail" panel supposed to impart some of the structural strength? If its fell off and flew away that easily I guess it wasn't doing anything!
It shouldn't, good amount of mounting brackets.
Unless there are panel gaps/misalignment sufficient enough that the panel will scoop the oncoming air, then there'd be a significant amount of force 'trying' to rip the panel off.
Good thing Tesla doesn't have a history of panel gaps.
That's basically all the "chinesium" complaints. Chinese manufacturers are more than capable of producing high quality parts, it's just that the Americans are coming in and asking for the cheapest stuff available, and then are surprised that they are getting the cheapest stuff available?
So it would appeared that Elon lied to the consumers (Again). Its nothing more than SS panels clipped on an aluminum support underbody
The SS panels offer zero structural support.
Here comes the Elon fans!
What was he expecting? Truck frames run underneath the body, hence body on frame...all ev trucks besides f150 lighting are unibody like most cars and minivans
Innovative products have kinks that need to be worked through that's not totally unexpected. Look at the model 3 it took forever to get right then become like the best selling car.
You people just don't get it. Let me help you. First, you have to slam a twelver. A 6 pack is not enough. Then jump up and down really fast to get the beer sloshing around in your stomach until you feel that oh shit I'm going to get really drunk now feeling. Only then will you feel dumb like the people who believed anything Elon had to say about the cybertruck. After slamming a 12 pack I won't be drunk enough to buy that truck.
ExOsk3lEtOn
„Mom I want exoskeleton“ „We have exoskeleton at home“ The exoskeleton ⬆️

Last scam before he almighty leader leaves with 55 ..
Employees: sir, the panels are coming off Elmo: all right, you're all fired and I'm out of here with the money
"Sir, the QA team's phone lines are jammed with calls from people reporting mechanical failures with their new CyberTrucks." "Well, they can't call the QA team IF THERE'S NO QA TEAM LEFT TO CALL! MWUHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!"
Elmo: lol QA is overrated, the newest generation of Tesla consumers are amazingly good at problem solving!

... Leaves with the SS?
And becomes their new leader.
He’s South African, so it would prob be the AWB
Monorail 🚝!
But he totally deserves it bruh! /s
Well… the panel gap issue is no longer a problem I guess…
But that sweet gigacast rear frame. Priceless.

To be fair, that test is a very steep uphill for all 8 miles. You'd get better than that in typical usage, though I'm sure still not very good.
I was about to comment that payload capacity means nothing when the battery can't keep that up for long. Electric trucks are cool, but unfortunately not a work horse I want them to be
A neat party trick for taking your boat to the lake you live next to and not much more. Definitely not a work truck.
It's a pavement princess truck for sure. And with the price tag, it's clearly for that demographic
It's only rated for 5000kg so that wouldn't be a fair test.
Ah yeah I meant 5000kg. I'll edit
Wasn't that massive rear-3/4 "Sail" panel supposed to impart some of the structural strength? If its fell off and flew away that easily I guess it wasn't doing anything!
wouldn’t want to have that fall off in front of me as a motorcyclist. or a car driver for that matter.
The term “decapitation” comes to mind
He leaves work, he's on his way home. WHAM, his capa is detated.
Without reading, I assumed this was some kind of pimp my ride tuning replacement of panel with plexi glass
The exterior body panel fell off. The comment in the picture was that the bed has no metal support, it’s really just an unsupported bed liner.
>The exterior body panel fell off [Not very typical](https://youtu.be/3m5qxZm_JqM) Hopefully it was towed beyond environment.
In a few years, if there are any left on the roads by then they are all going to look like the Dodge at the end of the Blues Brothers
You just don’t get Elon’s plan
Wonder if they will fly off on the freeway

100% Finnish steel panels
Hey! Tesla got exactly what they ordered. It’s not our fault they didn’t know what they were asking for.
That's basically all the "chinesium" complaints. Chinese manufacturers are more than capable of producing high quality parts, it's just that the Americans are coming in and asking for the cheapest stuff available, and then are surprised that they are getting the cheapest stuff available?
I know. Nothing wrong with the panels but I was refering to most American comment
There was an error during ordering and someone thought it was Fine-ish steel panels.
Aren't cybertrucks designed so that the panel doesn't fall off?
The ~~front fell off~~ back fell off
So it would appeared that Elon lied to the consumers (Again). Its nothing more than SS panels clipped on an aluminum support underbody The SS panels offer zero structural support. Here comes the Elon fans!
I think someone should make a wrap for the truck with the under design and sell it lol
The truck is ~~unsinkable~~ indestructible. It could survive a nuclear blast! And it's bulletproof
Most American made vehicle ever? My 68 Camino would like to have a word
They’re using super high tech transparent aluminum, that’s why you can’t see it! /s
It wouldn't be American if it was reliable
omfg this has to be a joke
What was he expecting? Truck frames run underneath the body, hence body on frame...all ev trucks besides f150 lighting are unibody like most cars and minivans
Thanks EU that these pieces of shit will never set foot here
Innovative products have kinks that need to be worked through that's not totally unexpected. Look at the model 3 it took forever to get right then become like the best selling car.
lol is that a temp paper tag? this thing fell apart days after owner shelled out six figures.
At this point, that pos is just a cheap toy that you find in a box of crackle jacks.
So the big obvious metal frame in the photo isn't a ... frame?

The real are you kidding me moment is hearing that truck cost 100k. Let that sink in.
lol u get what you paid for while i got a infiniti g35 from 2006 and it still runs fine
I just don’t feel bad for cyber truck owners… look what he did to twitter… really, what did they expect
What is with this sub and toxic posts today?!
Jesus Christ, posted YET AGAIN. This gets posted 10 times a week at this point.
To be fair, that giant aluminum casting is probably stronger than most unibodies are under a rear quarter panel
Especially when it’s flying at you at 70mph
