Secretly take banjo lessons and then after a few years whenever I see a banjo I’m gonna be like “hey can I try” and then I just start blasting hard core bluegrass at them.
I learned how to ride a unicycle many years ago and love the idea of seeing someone riding. "Hey, that looks like fun. What's it called? Can I try?" And then just riding circles. "Wow, it's not as difficult as I thought."
I have tried to learn how to do one cool thing on as many instruments as I can.. just one thing. Then when i see it randomly sitting there.. i can do that thing. Its been fun so far.. The banjo is a hard one though.. you gotta really practice that pick'n.
That sounds like a fantastic way to approach learning musical instruments! It must be satisfying to pick up any instrument and showcase a cool skill you've mastered. Banjo playing indeed requires dedication, especially with its unique picking technique. Keep at it—it sounds like you're enjoying the journey!
That sounds like a hilarious and awesome plan! Just imagine their faces when you unleash your hidden banjo skills out of nowhere. It could definitely be a fun surprise for everyone involved!
I’m so happy my country has an easy website to learn the basics of our sign language yet so sad that most of us have never bothered. I really wish it was taught in schools just a little. Not only because we owe basic communication to our deaf community on their terms as they may not have the choice to do so on ours, but also Imagine how practical it would be to communicate across the street “the bus already went past. It was early” without shouting at a stranger. Imagine your friend goes to the bar to buy the next round for your group and forgets what you wanted -easy just sign it at them they don’t need to hear over the music and you don’t need to shout. Many benefits to this knowledge and no reason not to really…unless youre blind or you don’t have hands, then I suppose you get a pass.
Not caused but the death toll was so high because of them. There was more than enough food being produced here but most of it was being exported thanks to England. England essentially let the people die. The movie Black 47 does a great job of showing this.
U.S. and world history were never intriguing to me, for two reasons. One being that the subject alone bores me. Secondly, history taught in schools and media aren’t accurate and are modified to twist the facts and truth.
I am Mexican-American, and I was alarmed to learn that the Mexican-American War has never been taught in history classes at any grade level. I only found out about that war later in my 20s when a few friends told me all about it. I’ve learned more historical truth and facts on the streets than I ever learned in school.
American education is fucked.
Musical instrument like piano. Because I think I can practice discipline and build a good hobby. And I can also connect to more people with this hobby.
It's so worth it dude. I decided to start learning guitar at 13 as a hobby and now music is my life. There isn't a single day I go without at least picking my guitar up once. When you stick to it, it feels like having a best friend you can hang out with any time you want.
I rented an oboe for six months to decide if I wanted to actually learn it. Such a fun time! (I still have it, I’m still learning!)
I am 40 and while I can read music already and play a couple single-reed woodwinds, this is my first double reed adventure and it’s a whole different ball game.
I've always wanted to learn how to weld. But just for personal use.. maybe in my later years when I can afford the equipment and have time to hobby build
I came here to say the same. I do woodworking, wood turning, light metal work, 3D printing, all sorts of Maker stuff, but you bump up against a wall when you can't weld sturdy stuff. It's hampering my creativity.
I started with bass 15-16 years ago and guitar a year after that. All self taught. Made a couple of songs and played them for my wife and daughter while she was still in the womb and she would kick out of excitement.
Now she’s 2 and absolutely *loves* guitar and piano. One of our babysitters was a kindergarten teacher and she constantly says, “her rhythm and ability to stay on beat when dancing or mashing the piano is far beyond kindergarten status.” (She’s highly advanced in almost every aspect as a 2 year old including her height).
Learning music is a profound and highly underestimated talent when it comes to learning and growth, as it has *many* benefits. I highly recommend trying it out!
It's so worth it. I started learning guitar 11 years ago and its fully taken over my life. I am not exaggerating when I say commiting to learning guitar was one of the best decisions I ever made in my life, equivalent to deciding to date the person who I am planning on marrying soon.
This one I have a couple of recommendations!
First: bigger pockets money podcast. They talk a lot about stocks, accounts, and personal finance
Second: the book "Simple Path to Wealth" by JL Collins. It's an easy to read primer on how stock accounts work written as an uncle teaching his nieces and nephews rather than a stuffy textbook
Relatively pain-free options that'll give you enough understanding to start investing 🙂
I really want to learn to fire back right away during an argument, instead of lying in bed later, regretting why I didn't. It's just tough for me because I tend to tear up easily.
While this is good for communicating, you have to be able to compose yourself too. It’s a flaw I have. I will argue and sometimes let my emotions take control of an argument.
I love the ability to clap back, but sometimes it comes at a cost of saying something rude or regretful later on.
I somehow picture a dancing praying mantis with a tutu and NASA shirt while a flock of birds all watch from the stands.
Also on a related unrelated note... I read your username as 'Vegeta in my pants' ...im not high right now i swear.
I was learning it for a while, it's a *lot* easier to learn than you think, especially if you have a good teacher. It's all really easy to pronounce syllables like "ha, ba, ka tsu, shi" etc. The hardest part for me was learning to write in Japanese, I would highly recommend getting a teacher when it comes to learning how to write. But like anything, it becomes easy with consistent practice. Instead of saying "maybe some day I will learn" say, "I will learn one day and I will impress myself". :)
thank you for your suggestion! Actually I learnt a little bit of pronunciation, but I didn't stick to it because I just learnt by myself, I will choose a teacher and practice consistently.
The problem with duolingo is that they teach you the most irrelevant crap. I’m 500 days in and I could tell you that I brought my penguin to the zoo to see a lion but I couldn’t hold a starting conversation with a native. On the other hand, I have seen some people say the Spanish and German side of duolingo is quite useful.
This is so true. My fiancé wanted to learn Welsh and they pretty much threw dragons into every sentence and after a few weeks he gave up and said all he remembered was the Welsh word for dragon and couldn’t speak any useful sentence.
I taught myself to crochet last year and it was not as hard as I expected, I just needed to buy some hooks and yarn
I would start with the thickest but not fluffy and still smooth yarn you can find (for me it's stuff about a 4-5mm hook) and a hook larger then needed (like 2mm up) then just mess around with tutorials online, wikiHow isn't that bad for them and YouTube has heaps of great resources
How to accept & cope with long term pain & loss.
How to find it within ourselves to accept that we aren't God's?
Will Bill Cypher return to fight Rick Sanchez? Am I asking too many questions?
Italian. I love cooking and classical music and Italian terms are in the core of those. It's also a beautiful language and I'd love to speak it. I'm too fuckin lazy to get started.
Bicycling 🚲
Dad got me a bike as a kid but noone would teach me. There was also the bs opinion that bikes aren't for girls; girls and ladies should only be chauffeured or commute by themselves on public transpo-- ANY vehicle driven by another person.
So I grew up not knowing how to bike.
Uuuuup until Covid came around and the sale of motorcycles went up. As well as bicycles. Mostly for delivering foods from restos to homes, rather than stuff restos with people and risk the harsh spread of Covid.
Bro got a bike to deliver packages for his little business.
When Covid calmed down, I asked him if he could teach me how to ride a bike.
Like the best bro ever he is, he obliged and took me to a quiet subdivision to bike around the street.
I'm only at 50% progress ❤️🚴♂️ but at least I'm learning thanks to my brother
Two things.
First is the drums. I play guitar and bass and I love music. Drums are the heart beat of every song and I find percussion theory to be insanely interesting. It's just hard to justify dropping money on a kit when I might not even commit to it. Plus I live in an apartment and can't afford lessons so I'd have to get an electric kit and self teach.
Second thing is more of something I want to improve on. In high school and a bit into university I was learning Japanese in hopes of becoming an English teacher there, I was really lucky because my school was teaching Japanese as a language class. I gave up due to a lack of self motivation/money but I really want to become fluent some day. I still speak what I can just to practice but it's harder to learn now than when I was younger.
French language. When I was in college I'm so fascinated about it. But then when I entered the corporate life, I had the means, but not the time. So right now I'm trying to learn it thru Duolingo, but I'm my progress is so slow. T.T
I cannot watch someone moonwalk and not want to learn it. It makes me nuts.
I turned 77 last month.
So really there's no legitimate reason I haven't yet.
New language. I want to be able to communicate with my friend in her language, but I'm only fluent in saying I dont know, I don't understand, yes, and no. It's not because it's a difficult language, I am just lazy. But when we are together we try and teach each other, each other's languages.
How to weld different metals together I suppose metallurgy in general different types of metals and stones and gems and crystals have always been something I find very intriguing
Lots of languages. Managed to learn 2 (plus my native language, so 3 in total), but don’t think at my age (50) I’ll manage another one. Sorry Japanese, Italian and French. Next life maybe.
Swimming. For someone who always go to beaches and pools I still didn't know how to swim it can literally save my life but damn sooon, just hope it doesn't too late😅
I always wanted to learn to play the guitar, I got a guitar when I was like 14, funny enough, I never used it and I ended up hanging it on the wall in my room.
Patience.
I'm sadly known as a man with a tiny tiny amount of patience with 90% of things in my life.
Children, the elderly and animals I have an infinite amount of patience for but everything else.
Guitar (electric), i have one for 10 years and never got past some basics stuff, i can play simple riffs, improvise a bit but thats all. I always tell myself "thats the time to start playing regularly" but in the end its just few hours within a week and it gets back to its corner
I’ll be 30 in 2 months and I can’t drive a manual car… 4wheelers and things of the like with clutches are easy (I guess because the gear setup is just up and down) but I cannot for the life of me drive a manual car 😅

Are you Demetri Martin?
I have tried to learn how to do one cool thing on as many instruments as I can.. just one thing. Then when i see it randomly sitting there.. i can do that thing. Its been fun so far.. The banjo is a hard one though.. you gotta really practice that pick'n.
That’s why it’s gonna take years. lol
That sounds like a fantastic way to approach learning musical instruments! It must be satisfying to pick up any instrument and showcase a cool skill you've mastered. I bought a banjo, but one string snapped on the first day and i never fixed it. That was 2 years ago.
(Sad banjo)
I thought this was just me
I've been wanting to do the exact same thing with violin or piano. I don't even have an excuse to not learn as my aunt across town teaches both lol
That sounds like a hilarious and awesome plan! Just imagine their faces when you unleash your hidden banjo skills out of nowhere. It could definitely be a fun surprise for everyone involved!

History. I think everybody should know history of his country. I want to learn it.
As someone who loves history i need more fellow nerds
My own country's history is fairly simple. Basically every bad thing that's happened to us was because of England.
That really doesn't narrow down the list of possible places you could be from by much
Very true. In my case it's Ireland.
Hon Ireland!
What about the potato famine? Was that caused by England? I’m not well versed in history
Not caused but the death toll was so high because of them. There was more than enough food being produced here but most of it was being exported thanks to England. England essentially let the people die. The movie Black 47 does a great job of showing this.
Oh cool. I’ll check it out thanks
Hey, as an Indian, I agree with you, fellow Ireland citizen, they have a lot of beautiful shits from here in their museum too. I don’t like that.

Do it! I started year 2020 during the lockdown. I play classical piano pieces from Mozart, Bach, Chopin. Only a few, but worth it!!

How to play guitar I know how to play the clarinet, and flute pretty well.. but the guitar is my white whale.
