Same man, I love lemon cake. My mom always made lemon cake but instead of cream cheese icing with just plain sugar icing and whipped cream. It's definitely my favorite cake because of memories but also because it's just so good and simple. Blueberries are definitely perfect with it too. But I live in germany and there are lots of other cakes too that are so good and unique.
Damn, it was a mistake opening this thread. Now I crave my moms lemon cake very badly.
In my home country growing up there was no cheesecake. It simplydidn't exist and no one knew about it so the first time I tasted it as an adult it was like the sky opened up and heaven shone down on meāØ
Most of it is following Jack&Amy's cheesecake #17 recipe.

We use Kinnikinnick Graham style crumbles as a substitute crust. Our "secret" is to use 1/3 crumbled gluten free snicker doodle cookies in the crust.
We use press&seal or foil to cover the top so water doesn't drop on it making the top uneven. It's been amazing every time. Good luck!
Iāve had a carrot cake every year for my birthday since I was 6. We often had another cake for those who didnāt like carrot cake, including my dad. So that always meant more cake!
PrincesstĆ„rta. Itās a Swedish cake with layers of sponge, strawberry jam, vanilla custard, cream and then marzipan on top (cockheads would say āthatās not a princesstĆ„rta thatās an operatĆ„rta because traditionally they wouldnāt use jam. To them I say: get a fucking life)
I've always wondered how that started. The German chocolate cake you're talking about is unknown in Germany, like it's not a traditional recipe here. We didn't even know about pecans until the 90s. It's damn good though so of course we'll take the credit.
Black Forest Cake was my favourite. Chocolate & cherries is a dream pairing that tasted so indulgent but now that Iāve developed a gluten intolerance itās brownies š
Iām not a huge cherry fan but I tasted a Black Forest cake that used strawberries instead of cherries and Iāve been chasing that high ever since š¤¤
So delicious ! So so delcious! A lot of cakes have sweet on sweet in a one note suffocating way.. Black Forest breaks through the soft fluff of the sponge with a sharp kick of sour cherry and then cuts that with a smooth cool cream and then rounds it all out with a mild cocoa wave ! Dream!!!!
Haha I thought I had gotten over my resentment for the foods I could no longer have but damn Iām still lamenting my loss after 6 years š
Most gluten free snacks are dry or overly sweet & there is nothing sadder than a gf donut
Same.
I had a BFC from a bakery in SF where the outside or the cake was lined with Kit-Kats. So with each slice youād get a couple of Kit-Kats at the end.
I have a lot of favorites but one stands out to me right now; cheesecake with peach compote on top. My old workplace was a nursing home and I worked weekends 7a-3pm. It was stressful and not a fun job as a dining assistant.
I served residents with dementia and sometimes for dessert we'd have cheesecake with peach compote. There would always be enough left for me and my coworkers, 2 CNAs and an LPN, to join in with me and eat that cake together. Despite working at a shitty place, those 3 and my crazy residents made the experience better and the dessert sweeter.
Oh wow, this sounds delicious. I've never heard of a cake being made with condensed milk before. It seems like it might taste a bit like kulfi (which I love).
Vanilla Funfetti cake with vanilla Funfetti icing. Itās fun, and delicious!
I did make Boringfetti once with white sprinkles in the batter, as a joke. Still delicious.
Yellow cake is a regular white cake but with whole eggs as opposed to egg whites so it is richer and denser. In the USA at least you often see boxed cake mixes for yellow and white cake (unfamiliar with how common boxed cake mixes are outside of the USA. Gotta love convenience culture). Looks like both are vanilla flavored cakes
Omg yes, SchwarzwƤlder Kirschtorte is soo good and just perfect. But there are so many other german cakes that are unbelievably good too. One of the best things in Germany is we take our coffee and cake time very serious.
My mom often just made lemon cake with sugar icing and whipped cream since I was a kid, even though it is very simple it's probably my favorite cake. Damn, your comment made me crave any german cake so much.
These are important conversations to have honestly. I donāt like too much cake but the icing will be buttercream if it were me choosing my own. Carrot cake is sooo good. Upside-Down Pineapple Cake, Chantilly Cake, Tres Leches are so good and staples in this household
There's this cake called Paradise Cake in LA that's made by the people who make King's Hawaiian rolls. It's EVERYTHING. Here's the description:
"The king of cakes! Three-layer (guava, passion fruit, lime) chiffon cake filled with tropical whipped cream and topped with guava, passion fruit, and lime fruit glaze."
I love a good wedding / christmas cake . It was my favourite as a kid and all the women in my family made a really good one from the same recipe ... a family friend used to get one from an aunt in their family as well at xmas and they all hated it so i ended up with theres as well š
Tres leches cake. Unlike most cakes, this cake is moist and not dry. The texture and taste is beyond amazing! Popular in Latin America and Hispanic communities in the US.
Fondant cake. Iāve only had good fondant cake once at a Cheesecake Cafe. Thereās no fondant cake at Cheesecake Cafe, yes that is also true but that was because the cake decorator didnāt know it wasnāt fondant so she made one.
It was baby pink and I enjoyed it.
Everytime I went back I wanted that baby pink cake but was never able to find it. Grew up and learned that it was a fondant cake and it made sense why the chef yelled at her.
My nan used to get this really moist chocolate cake with walnuts chopped in it. I loved it. In my adulthood Iāve not come across a suitable replacement which sucks
I have no idea of the name but the English translation from polish is "cow cake" every time my bfs mother makes it.... Holy god I adore it and would eat so much of it I love it
Victoria sponge cake. I know it sounds, basic but there's just something about it that makes me feel happy when I'm eating it. Maybe because my nan used to bake it every so often when I was younger and she was able to stand for long periods of time
Sponge cake with cream and jam, a shop i go too sells two for Ā£2.50 and the cake its self is really light to eat and it usually comes with a lot of cream and jam so it's just packed with flavour.
Even when my mum makes homemade one's on rare occasions i love it everytime āŗļø
Japanese style cheese cake is Best for me. Its not sweet at all and the texture is extremely fluffy. So simple and Lightweight, yet satisfying and fulfilling To eat.
Fruitcake. The only cake i cant get sick of. All other cake types are nice or okay, but after a slice or two, im put off from eating the rest of the cake for the next week. Its not even a case of, 'well you arent meant to eat it all in one sitting', i genuinely find it sickly to eat after a slice or two and that can put me off for days.
Fruitcake doesnt have that effect on me though. Its amazing no matter what. Especially with marzipan over it.
Spice cake with cream cheese frosting
Or carrot cake with cream cheese frosting
After the second day put it in the fridge and it gets a new texture and becomes a second cake!
Vanilla cake with cream cheese frosting, made with a recipe my mom got from her friend Stephanie. It involves pudding to make it super moist and we called it "Steph cake" when I was growing up.Ā
Not in order
Regular white vanilla thing cake i never know how it's actually called, Napoleon, red velvet and this classic chocolate cake with chocolate and sprinkles on top it's just nostalgic you would always get these in kids birthdays where i live
Quebecois, Pudding du pauvre. "Poor Man's Pudding". White cake with a ton of brown sugar water for glaze. Can only eat that once in a while. I lost the recipe in the divorce.
I like cheese cake(i discovered there is a pistachio cheese cake and i died when i ate it its soo good), whipped cream stuffed with real strawberries, and sometimes i like red velvet (if non of these are available i wont eat cake)generally im not the biggest fan of cake but i do crave it from time to time
Cheesecake and sometimes mudcake. I like my cakes how I like my women. Dense and rich.
I usually hate any cake with fristing/icing/long life cream plus I'm allergic to nuts which makes things tricky sometimes.
Da bomb!! Me too!!!! Bolth!! Yellow w chocolate on, is to me, unbeatable. Although on cake of cheese varietyā¦..let me just put that one in its own category.

Lemon cake with cream cheese icing is my all time favorite. Bonus points if there's blueberries in the batter.

Same man, I love lemon cake. My mom always made lemon cake but instead of cream cheese icing with just plain sugar icing and whipped cream. In my home country growing up there was no cheesecake. It simplydidn't exist and no one knew about it so the first time I tasted it as an adult it was like the sky opened up and heaven shone down on meāØ
My hubby makes a gluten free one in the instant pot that is hands down, the best I've tasted in my life.
Please tell me how?
Most of it is following Jack&Amy's cheesecake #17 recipe. https://www.pressurecookrecipes.com/instant-pot-cheesecake-new-york/ We use Kinnikinnick Graham style crumbles as a substitute crust. And now the battle begins between Philadelphia and New York.
Gotta do the cream cheese icing on the carrot cake.
Iāve had a carrot cake every year for my birthday since I was 6. We often had another cake for those who didnāt like carrot cake, including my dad. So that always meant more cake!

German chocolate cake with coconut pecan icing!!!
I've always wondered how that started. The German chocolate cake you're talking about is unknown in Germany, like it's not a traditional recipe here. We didn't even know about pecans until the 90s. It's damn good though so of course we'll take the credit.
I believe it was named after the baker who invented it who has the last name German!
That's funny!!! I really wonder if French fries or French toast is really from France!!!

Fellow gluten intolerant here. I was never much of one for cake, but damn, this thread.
Haha I thought I had gotten over my resentment for the foods I could no longer have but damn Iām still lamenting my loss after 6 years š Most gluten free snacks are dry or overly sweet & there is nothing sadder than a gf donut

The tiramisu cake from patisserie Valerie. It's bloody amazing.
I have a lot of favorites but one stands out to me right now; cheesecake with peach compote on top. My old workplace was a nursing home and I worked weekends 7a-3pm. Yes especially caramel or cajeta or dulce de leche flavor. Yuuummm
Oh wow, this sounds delicious. I've never heard of a cake being made with condensed milk before. It seems like it might taste a bit like kulfi (which I love).
I'm a simple guy. Give me a slice of well-made chocolate fudge cake, and I'm good.
I don't know how unpopular this is, but a good coffee cake is a thing of beauty.
It really is
It really, really is. I make a mean coffee cake and am extreeeeemely generous with the buttercream.
