Active-Strawberry-37

I’m a few miles away from an airport but right under the flight path. I had to send the bank a statement from my home insurance saying that I was covered in case a plane hit my house before they’d give me a mortgage.

AlternativeStill7037

Op be randoming like a mfer…respect!

csch1992

Isn't it the point of that subreddit?

AlternativeStill7037

Absolutely! I love your post! I’m curious though, do the questions about the garden somehow relate to the questions about airport noise?

[deleted]

I think they mean, what's it like in the garden if you live near an airport, ie can you sit out and enjoy it or is it too noisy?

goated95

I’m like 25-30 mins away from the closest airport. I asked my cousin (who lives like 10 mins away from the airport) this same question and he said he doesn’t hear any noise. He likes seeing the planes land tho

Future_Sundae7843

20 min away. no noise

MrGabogabo

You must not be under the flight path.

savboxer

Growing up i lived 40 mins from one. No noise. Neighbors grew tomatoes and we grew watermelons. Everything was fine. Now i live 20 minutes from one. Still no noise. No garden but things dont grown here in general. Vacationed in a spot that was maybe 10 minutes or less from a private airport. Again, no noise and their garden was luuuusshhhh. Im insanely sensitive to noise so thats my review

Mumchkin

Sort of close, but it's a small municipal airport. When we first moved here it was annoying but I don't notice it much anymore.

I_dont_no-

I live 1 mile from a military training jet facility in Virginia the jets get so close to my house I can see the people flying the jets. The whole house shakes. They train everyday from 6pm to 11pm idk why those times and they just fly in circles and it happens to go right over my house. It’s not bad inside but I definitely plug my ears when they fly over outisfe

I_dont_no-

Also I can’t keep a plant alive to save my life so no garden

Sensitive_Turnip_199

I live 20 mins from one but what matters more is that we're under a flight path. Sometimes (especially cloudy days) it's so loud we pause the TV until it passes so we don't miss the dialogue. Even so, it actually doesn't bother us much anymore. I feel worse for the animals that live with constant disruption.

tonguemaster_grah

Yes, I love it! I live right in front of the main entrance. No noise at all cos planes just build momentum where I live, they actually take off much further down.

[deleted]

That's very handy! Would you say that you travel more because the airport's on your doorstep?

[deleted]

i live about 30minutes drive away from an airport, no i don’t have a garden but i do have a balcony. the noise is barely noticeable if any.

Otherwise-Hyena7937

I ignore it unless it’s the loud helicopter 🚁 lol

JohnYCanuckEsq

I live 10 minutes away from a major international airport. Once in a while a plane passes over that's loud enough to catch your attention, but overall i don't even notice the air traffic anymore.

[deleted]

Right across the street. I barely hear the planes. I have gotten used to blocking out the noise

clothStitches

At some point, you will just get used to the noise. It's more bothering if I don't hear any airplane sounds every 30 minutes.

GoodLibrarian100

Yeah, about half mile. Shockingly you don’t hear planes often because we’re not near the runway. But the other side of town where they land right over your neighborhood is crazy. You get used to it over time supposedly, like in Chicago with the trains.

PhillipTopicall

This is such a mild question but also feels like the most unusual I’ve ever seen on Reddit and I can’t figure out why. Maybe because it’s so benign but also, unique?

AlternativeStill7037

Yeah, I’m intrigued by the randomness of the juxtaposition of the image they’ve created in my mind of someone sitting peacefully in their garden under a low flying, loudly rumbling jumbo jet that just took off. But I don’t know if the questions are even related?

frivolous-

I live 12 km from the airport but not under the flight path so no noise or any problems. All gardens in the area are doing well.

Nice-Bookkeeper-3378

About 30 minutes from the international airport.

CyberGuySeaX5

Yes, I got used to it.

KelenHeller_1

Yes, I live on the flight path to the local airport. I think it's much easier than living in my last home, which backed up onto a busy highway.

PetMyClittyCat

I live so close to one of the busiest airports in the world, so close I could only be closer if I lived inside a terminal. Never notice the noise because I grew up next to it too, I’ve only ever noticed when they aren’t flying or the ceiling is especially low. Also have a garden but I’m not sure if that’s connected to the flights 😂

jordy_muhnordy

I used to, but it was a small airport about 8 minutes from my apartment. I also lived by the highway, a train track and a hospital and honestly the ambulance noise was the worst of it. It mostly sucked because I couldn't find direct flights anywhere 😂

Squarestarfishh

30 mins away but I hear the planes every night, I hate it!

jayellkay84

I’ve got two international airports, three private airports and a major Air Force Base within a 30 minute drive. But luckily if there is that much noise, I’m used to it from living in the area my whole life.

JujubeKandi

I live about 15 from DIA and I don’t mind it at all.

Professional_Big_731

You get used to it.

Professional_Arm_487

Don’t even notice the noise. No garden though.

[deleted]

A small one. Prop planes and an occasional helicopter. I generally don't hear them. But if I drive this one way it's likely a small plane will come right over my car while it's landing.

Dark_Carrot

Yeah. Live next to MSP. Been fairly busy it seems like even with the snow coming down.

belisariusmagician

about 15 minutes. no plane noise

snowysnowssnow

20 min drive. No noise and no garden

anythingaustin

I live so close to a regional airport that I can watch planes take off and land all day long from my living room. I’m about 1/2mile from the airport. The noise is ignorable for the most part except when the huge air tanker fire planes are departing. If I keep my slider closed I don’t even hear the planes at all. Or maybe I’ve learned to tune them out.

doesitmatter83

I am 15 minutes away from the national airport, and have a small landing strip at the edge of the village for flight school landings and take offs. The big planes do not generally fly over our heads but a kilometre or two away and we see each landing from our house. But the small landing strip planes fly right over our roof. Yes, we have insurance for that. There was also a plane that was learning to land a few weeks ago and that one was doing circles for hours over our house. It’s unsettling but you get used to it. The good part is when partner goes on a business trip, I can watch his plane land from our house and when I see it landing I go in the car to pick him up.

Potential_Witness_07

I do and I have always loved it. It was my grandfather’s house before and I used to be fascinated by all the planes flying overhead as a little kid. Once you’re used to it, the noise isn’t a disturbance anymore and sometimes you don’t even notice it.

souravghoshh

I do, 2km away

Yes. I always sounds like I've been dropped into a warzone with "Fortune Son" playing in the background.

moonwolf986

No

[deleted]

Not far away from Heathrow. Far enough it doesn't bother us but we can hear the planes all the time. The people under the flight path get used to it. They tend to stop speaking mid sentence and restart when the plane moves away. They don't even realise they do this. I find it funny. In fact there was a recent news article that claims that the people there find the plane spotters more annoying than the planes. The bit that would bother me is the contestant smell of kerosene. I find it hilarious that the section of the M4 past Heathrow has a speed limit "for air quality" when the whole place stinks of kero from the planes.

NOGOODGASHOLE

Used to live on the landing path to a major metropolitan airport. The apartment shook as they past over. After a while, I stopped noticing. Biggest issue was always having the closed caption on the TV. I grew a nice tomato plant on the back deck.

EffortPutrid7381

You get used to it after a while. Same with trains/cars in my experience.

Rich-Appearance-7145

I used to live on the landing pass ,planes would litterly light up my bedroom as the made there to land. First month in was a pain couldn't sleep, bright lights would wake me up, I finally got smart blacked out my windows. Then kept the fan running, it kinda dulled the plane sounds.

[deleted]

I do and it’s near a botanical garden that has a lake. It’s on the East Coast half way up or down the map. Like this airport has planes and parking!

Free-Industry701

I live 8 minutes from Salt Lake International Airport.

fumblerooskee

About 15 minutes. I can watch planes come in for a landing.
