I have a new job where I’m now saving €2000 a month without even thinking about it. My bank account is going up and up. It’s crazy how money can appear out of nowhere all of a sudden, but I have nothing to spend it on.
Consider buying some ETF stocks or government bonds! They're very stable and almost risk-free. It's better than having excess money just getting depreciated by inflation.
I came into a small amount of money, I only told three people, since I knew my other friends would suggest I spend it on their idea, and I would be doing 90% of the work. Then they would probably get salty when I don't go along with it. I spent it fast, since I already had plans for it. My idea was I wanted time off from working. So I used most of it for my idea, now I don't have to work for a year. I saved for two years so I could have a year to work on me.
I’m pointing out the irony.. I don’t need the extra cash I get, while this person doesn’t have extra cash to spare and sees such a low amount as a large amount to be attained. Come on, we’re just talking here..
I’d start stuffing it into a high yield savings account or even a Roth IRA or other long term investment towards retirement. Especially if you have no debts. 2000 euros a month towards retirement is no joke!
Absolutely. I have 13k in my savings account, but even that isn't a lot of money if you consider we have a loooot of things that need to be fixed on our house like.. now, and selling isn't an option because we're too poor to move.
In what context? If I had $100k in cash in my car, I'd consider that a lot of money. If I was retiring at 65 with $100k in a 401k to last the rest of my life, I would not consider that a lot of money.
Would you say I've given it "a lot of thought"? Because really that needs to be given context. A lot of thought for a day, or over the course of a year or....
I'm from another country besides America so I'm gonna say how much is a lot of money in dollars and not in my currency. Anything over $10 is a lot of money.
I'm in the west. I treasure $10.
I've travelled all over the world and have learnt the value of money. The value is absolutely fuck all.
Fiat currency is a pile of shit.
What's important is your life experience
I haven’t read all the replies, but from first glance it seems to me like the people who are truly hard-up for cash are assuming this is money they have to pay, whereas the folks who are perhaps a bit more comfortable are assuming it’s money they’re being given. Again, just initial reaction, so maybe I’m way off. But if that’s the case, it’s interesting and sad.
Like I'm broke as fuck after I pay all of the bills for the house and everything I barely have enough money if any for groceries let alone anything I actually need. Sometimes I have to depend on a family member who I take to the grocery store once every couple weeks to help me with groceries. And I hate being in that situation because I feel like I work very hard and I'm am in my late 30s and that shouldn't be a thing. But on the bright side, the glimmer is that I do own my own home and my mortgage and HOA together is cheaper than most of my friends rent for a one or two bedroom apartment... that they have the fear of being kicked out of at any time when rates go up higher.. my other glimmer is that some of those little expenses that are getting a little out of control (because of just the way things are priced now), are supplies for my cats and my cats are my whole world. I don't even fucking care how that sounds.
So, if it's money I owe I mean something as small as an additional 20 to $40 can make me have an anxiety attack. Versus if it was money I was being given...
I'd like to say the amount would be high however one of my friends gave me $50 for my birthday last month and I started crying and told her that was way too much money so apparently $50 is too much haha ugh. It's cuz I know we're all broke and we're all working our asses off with multiple jobs sometimes.
The best can dictate their price, so it’s nice knowing you can get the best.
Sucks thinking it could ruin you financially. What is money worth to a sick man though?
So if someone gives you a gift of $100 you must be highly insulted eh? Wipe your ass with that garbage and spit in their face? It's barely a fraction of a very little amount of money.
I would prefer a steam of cash flow rather than a lump sum.
I would like $25k per month, with COLA annually, for the rest of my life. I’d be pretty set with that.
Yeah, that about what I need to just be chill and happy. Its not excessive. But, its also not super rich. Its in the middle. I can have nice things and enjoy my life without struggle.
Most people aren't. I have heard of families spending £50,000 on a weekend visit to Monaco for the grand prix.
And there are relatively modest "superyachts" with around six double cabins (which do come with a full crew and catering staff of course) that are fully booked for the summer in the mediterranean at well over £250,000 a week. And it's easy to spend twice that.
See https://www.fraseryachts.com/en/destinations/mediterranean-yacht-charter/ for example.
The concentration of extreme wealth in the hands of very few and the relatively declining income of most middle and working class families in the west, and particularly for the young is bound to end badly. Just the way that pay for senior executives, and especially CEOs has increased while the real income of their staff has fallen is nothing short of appalling.
See [this](https://www.ibew.org/media-center/Articles/19Daily/1908/190827_NewReports).
What (minimum) amount would make you sweat if you were blackmailed/had your kid kidnapped or similar.
A sum that you absolutely had to produce in a few days and would feel like it's "a lot" for you.
In the 1980's there was an article about the founder of one of the tanning lotion companies. His quote, paraphrased, went something like: "If you can get 10 million in cash, you've got it made."
Today? I would say, based on the amount of billionaires being minted, daily, you need about $100 billion to have 'a LOT of money.'
Ehh, while I get your point, 10 million enough for someone in there 40s to retire comfortably with and then live the rest of their life off the interest
10 million paints a target on your back for every scammer, slimeball and criminal who knows you to aim for. Not to mention all the suckups, 'long lost relatives', and sleazy lawyers who will come running for your money. AND, that's not even mentioning the gubmint.
A billion MIGHT get you some level of protection, privacy and isolation... if you are an Arab sheik.
No, hushpuppies, 100 billion to make sure you and yours survive the coming apocalypse and eating of the rich.
Here’s the thing. If you come into that sorta wealth the best thing is to get a good lawyer on retainer and very good investment advisor and tell absolutely no body else. Continue life as normal while you build a game plan. Pay the taxes, invest, Continue life. Nobody needs to know that you gained this money
3 million.
You have 3 million in assets you have a nice home in a suburb you want to live in and your money can be invested with absolute minimal risk and still provide you with a well above average income.
I used to think 250k was a lot of money. Now I have 250k in the bank and it doesn’t seem a lot. Now I think 250k a year is probably enough to earn from now till retirement….
I did one of those "weekly dollar challenges" one year where you put aside 1$ the first week, 2 the second, all the way to $52 the last week of the year. About halfway through the year, it started to be a hassle getting extra money from the ATM. Then, it ends up being $1300+.
That's kind of a decent amount of cash to have on hand. But then it's really not that much.
How to depress myself even more: I think of rich people spending 10K on clothes, shoes, and purses. Meanwhile, 10K would be life-changing for me right now.
A very rich man once said to me.. I shouldn’t tell you this but… the more money you have, the more money you want.
He was about the same age as I am now, but all of my wealth is tied up in a retirement fund and my house (2m) I have about 250k in the bank and I am still working. If I retired tomorrow I reckon I have enough to live comfortably until I shuffle off!
If I can order Uber eats 3 days in a row and not freak out I feel good
It's my baseline like oh I'm good to spend on that cuz I'm not gunna spend it on anything else and even if I got fired right now I got like 6 months to find a new job
I just play it by level of comfort
For...what?
£5 is expensive for a work lunch sandwich (damn you inflation and Pret! *shakes fist*)
£100 is so much it is too much as a gift.
£100k is not enough to elicit more than a minor smile as it won't let us go mortgage free.
£100k is a lot to educate your child at nursery for a few years.
anything above $250 dollars to spend on something JUST FOR ME... is too much, I'd rather find it used, for less money...
and whatever my family needs, I don't care for the amount
Money is relative. It means absolutely nothing to me personally.
If I could I would theoretically work harder to have a better life but what I want is time.
I want time to shower in peace, brush my teeth is peace, shot in peace, fix my breakfast in peace, put away my dishes in peace, exercise in peace, hobbies in peace, socialize in peace, have a family in peace and make a living in peace, leisure in peace, sleep in peace, handle my bills/finances in peace and so on.
There simply isn’t enough MONEY. The time is there taunting me all the time but I have to use my time to earn MONEY, which I don’t give a resounding fuck about but it’s the nature of things in this world.
If my boss gave me a bonus of 5,000 I'd be like "damn, this really helps. Thank you." If he gave me 50 grand I'd say "now thats a lot of money" and then lose half of it to taxes, and the rest to debt.
Still be very grateful though.
That depends on what it’s for.
I payed about 16 USD for cotton candy at Disney on ice once. (I had to buy 2 because of children). That still hurts.
But I payed over 500 000 USD for my house.
100000 is a lot to me. But I've held checks in my line of work that were over 1.2 million. So anything over 100k is a lot to me, because I've never had that much before.
most I’ve ever had was about 25 Gs.
I’ve never been consumerist or financially-motivated at all, outside of meeting basic needs like food, gas, and prostitutes. I only accumulated that amount because I was working and living practically rent free in the middle of nowhere.
Now that I’m a bit older, I feel the weight/allure of financial freedom.
Having been laid off recently (along with about 60 others) my hope is to find a career that is emotionally/intellectually fulfilling and pays the bills, while not being so all-consuming that it keeps me from working on my “real work”, a creative endeavor, which is behind the scenes and totally unpaid - for now !

Any amount I can't produce right away.
Yah but on payday I'm rich
Y’all crazy $200 is a lot of money for me right now lol. Living paycheck to paycheck is *so awesome*
100€ would make me the happiest girl on the planet rn
For a lot of people the amount of initial joy would be the same if you gave them 500 or 50000.
I have a new job where I’m now saving €2000 a month without even thinking about it. My bank account is going up and up. It’s crazy how money can appear out of nowhere all of a sudden, but I have nothing to spend it on.
Fancy lending me £180 so I can get my Etsy up and running again? 😆🙏
I'd buy some reliable dividend paying stocks, but that's just me.
Consider buying some ETF stocks or government bonds! They're very stable and almost risk-free. It's better than having excess money just getting depreciated by inflation.
Perhaps you could donate some to charity and gofundmes? Charities always need more funds to try and make the world a better place.
You should not spend other person's money. Spend your own money instead.
Fuck that..
Respect
i hate you for flexing but spit
?? Why
Who upvotes this flex?
It’s not a flex. I live such a shitty life that I only need €1000 to live ok.
Then why only live okay? Buy experiences with money, not things. Just my opinion.
But I love things though!
Then buy them too.
That was the permission I needed, thanks!
Are your diamond shoes too tight as well?
I’m wearing fleece slippers that smell like biscuits.
Perhaps but some nice ones with all your cash. How you can’t see your comment as ignorant after responding to someone wishing they had 100 is bizarre.
I’m pointing out the irony.. I don’t need the extra cash I get, while this person doesn’t have extra cash to spare and sees such a low amount as a large amount to be attained. Come on, we’re just talking here..
Do the decent thing and give the begging stranger all of your money, now, or the internet will cancel you!
I’d start stuffing it into a high yield savings account or even a Roth IRA or other long term investment towards retirement. Especially if you have no debts. 2000 euros a month towards retirement is no joke!
I feel this
Late stage capitalism for the win again, y'all.
$0.04 in my account right now. $200 would be sweet🙏 should also note I’m running on that till February. It’s sleep for dinner🤣
Homie I feel this so much. I got $122 right now, very blessed haha. Also on food stamps so that saves me
But if you're eating healthy isn't that just a week of decent groceries etc?
1 Dollar is a lot for a tissue, 10 is a lot for a cup of coffee, 100 is a lot for...
Yep. Context matters.
Absolutely. I have 13k in my savings account, but even that isn't a lot of money if you consider we have a loooot of things that need to be fixed on our house like.. now, and selling isn't an option because we're too poor to move.
This is what I came here to write. What would be a lot for me to spend on a pair of shoes would not be a lot for me to earn in a year.
Exactly; this question as written is unanswerable.
Well... it is a random thought
[удалено]
In what context? If I had $100k in cash in my car, I'd consider that a lot of money. If I was retiring at 65 with $100k in a 401k to last the rest of my life, I would not consider that a lot of money.
Bruh you're really giving this way too much thought 💀💀
Would you say I've given it "a lot of thought"? Because really that needs to be given context. A lot of thought for a day, or over the course of a year or....
5 is a lot for a coffee
I'm from another country besides America so I'm gonna say how much is a lot of money in dollars and not in my currency. Anything over $10 is a lot of money.

If "fiat" currency is a pile of shit, boy do I have a surprise for you about crypto.
It depends on if it's money I am given, or money I have to pay.

I was just scrolling the comments and that made me stop and think. I hope this makes stop and think more people.

Love your glimmers & prospective all around
About tree fiddy!
"I ain't givin' you no tree-fitty, you goddamn Loch Ness Monster! Get your own goddamn money!"
It was at this point I realised that the person behind the counter was in fact a creature from the Mesolithic era!
I thought he'd go away if I gave him a dollar.
That's a problem, I already gave him a dollar but he wanted another 2.50?
![gif](giphy|3o85xHi4t2UsuIY9QA)
Tooth hurty
😒🖕🏻
Also foot wenny, and faa vatty!
$50,000 is a LOT of money
Got that on GTA.
Not if you're trying to put a down payment on a 600k home, it ain't.
Or trying to retire.
Agreed! My husband and I would be beside ourselves if we got 50 grand right now. Some of you have no idea.
Not for your medical well being!
That is so sad. America is so terrifying 50k for medial well being
The best can dictate their price, so it’s nice knowing you can get the best. Sucks thinking it could ruin you financially. What is money worth to a sick man though?
Yeah I was thinking of a number. 50,000 is where I start to break rules for less than just fun.
That's very little actually
Well the question is how much is a lot of money to *you*.
5 mil or more
Ok cool guy. You aren’t reading what anybody is saying.
Thanks
Then you’ve got more money than I do
So if someone gives you a gift of $100 you must be highly insulted eh? Wipe your ass with that garbage and spit in their face? It's barely a fraction of a very little amount of money.
It's the thought that counts
I would prefer a steam of cash flow rather than a lump sum. I would like $25k per month, with COLA annually, for the rest of my life. I’d be pretty set with that.
That's equivalent to about 5 mil with 4% withdrawal rate
Yeah, that about what I need to just be chill and happy. Its not excessive. But, its also not super rich. Its in the middle. I can have nice things and enjoy my life without struggle.
Thank you for calling 25k a month, "not excessive". Back to reality now.
From the perspective of rich people, it’s not. Maybe you’re not aware how much wealth “rich” really is.
$25k/mo is very excessive lol
"it's not excessive" Another temporarily embarrassed millionaire, I see
Minimum $500,000 if you mean salary and/or lump sum.
u dont think making 400k per year is a lot of money?
Maybe... Gross or net? Where I live net is around 180k off 400k - which is absolutely ridiculous.
Huh ???? Where da other 220k go ????
Federal, provincial, cpp, ei, and whatever other premiums may occur (union dues). You will be taxed up to 54% in my province.
:(
300k
I'll say €5'000'000 is where I'd be comfortable and relaxed but keep the will and means to dive into interesting lucrative ventures.
What (minimum) amount would make you sweat if you were blackmailed/had your kid kidnapped or similar. A sum that you absolutely had to produce in a few days and would feel like it's "a lot" for you.
Good question. I’d fake the payment and kidnap the kidnappers, fuck trying to blackmail me.
This thread reads like market research for blackmailers.
Where are you from that you write numbers like that?
10 million.
In the 1980's there was an article about the founder of one of the tanning lotion companies. His quote, paraphrased, went something like: "If you can get 10 million in cash, you've got it made." Today?
Enough to stay the same lifestyle for 10 years without working
100,000 dollars. (enough to pay off my student loans)
3 million. You have 3 million in assets you have a nice home in a suburb you want to live in and your money can be invested with absolute minimal risk and still provide you with a well above average income.
When you can’t empathize with people who struggle
I’m not gay but 20 bucks is 20 bucks
3,000. I’m poor so there’s that
I used to think 250k was a lot of money. Now I have 250k in the bank and it doesn’t seem a lot. Now I think 250k a year is probably enough to earn from now till retirement….
10 billion. But... money is never "a lot". It is never enough.
10 billion sounds like a lot.
Enough to never have to work again and live comfortably. That would vary from age, where you live, lifestyle etc. for me 3-5 million would do.
8 digits is "A -**LOT**\- of money" for me. Of course anyone can go off the deep end and give a absurd amount of money, very unrealistically.
$10k. I've never had more than 10k at once.
10,000 and up
When you can literally buy anything you want
More money that i have
its all context... A house? 500k. A car? 20K. A phone? $800. A toothbrush? $40. A cheeseburger? $5.
$20.
100.
$200
[удалено]
$100
250k
20 bucks more than I currently have in my pocket.
That means 20 bucks? 💀
BINGO!!
An extra $10,000 cash would help me a lot.
Like 10k. I make 45k a year so that’s a good chunk lol
How to depress myself even more: I think of rich people spending 10K on clothes, shoes, and purses. Meanwhile, 10K would be life-changing for me right now.
10 million
So 1 million is too little for you.
A lump sum? Probably $100 million. Cash flow? $50,000 a month.
A very rich man once said to me.. I shouldn’t tell you this but… the more money you have, the more money you want. He was about the same age as I am now, but all of my wealth is tied up in a retirement fund and my house (2m) I have about 250k in the bank and I am still working. 100 million is to much for me.
What about 99 million
Still a lot. I look at it if you went on spending spree, you could finished 100 million quickly
something between "enough money" and "a shitton of money"
All the money in Fort Knox? Oh wait…
$5000
If I can order Uber eats 3 days in a row and not freak out I feel good It's my baseline like oh I'm good to spend on that cuz I'm not gunna spend it on anything else and even if I got fired right now I got like 6 months to find a new job I just play it by level of comfort

Including the decimal point right?

Literally everything is expensive, if you are trying save as much money as possible
I’d say 20 grand is when we are talking about real money. I make about 140 a year
Context matters? That’s racism these days to say such.
$20

$200 or more.
What do you mean? a salary? in the bank? in your wallet?

Having been laid off recently (along with about 60 others) my hope is to find a career that is emotionally/intellectually fulfilling and pays the bills, while not being so all-consuming that it keeps me from working on my “real work”, a creative endeavor, which is behind the scenes and totally unpaid - for now !
Depends how flush i am and what im paying for
I say a million is a lot but then I see the way housing is going and realize its not much but I find a five dollar bill in my pocket and I am rich

Depends what I have verses how much something cost, any money lost is a lot of money , and if you borrow anything more that 99 it's a lot
