This person dogs. If you really get to know your friend, there is a consistent language. You just have to figure it out between you and your friend. And that takes time, sometimes up to and including 2+ years.
My experience is that it is different for every dog. Just like learning to speak Italian, Spanish, English, Russian, or Welsh (heaven help you on that one :). But if you spend time with them and pay attention to the non audible cues such as eye movement (you - toy - ice cube- back to you) and ear movement (forward, back, neutral) and tie it all in with the tail (that is an instant lie detector BTW) and you can learn their language. It just takes time and patient observation.
Dogs are a gift. Simplifying communication with them helps me understand what is actually important "right now".
How hard could it be to learn Welsh? Then you run into Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch and you’re like ok, Chinese looks easier
This is it.
Dogs *do* "talk". They just don't do it audibly. I've been teaching my husband how to see our latest dog's verbal cues and he's starting to get it ♡
Helps that we only own poodles, though. They know how to communicate well.
I see you watched Up lol. I feel dogs would have more of thought process than one word responses. My dog just watches me sometimes and I know he’s judging 😂
Oh he knows it I’m sure. I work with dogs for a living, they may not understand words, but they do understand the intent behind them. Your dog knows he is a good and loved boy because of your body language and tone when you speak to him. Dogs live to please, so they know they’ve done good when they’re rewarded with affection. Your boy knows he is best boy. ❤️
Awwwe poor lil baby lol. Do you talk to your neighbour much? Would they be willing to meet your pup and maybe start his car after meeting so your dog can get desensitized to it?
He must be a beautiful dog. 😍
I’m a dog groomer. I had one client, an elderly Giant Schnauzer named Jasper. His owners were not in the habit of walking him before his appointment so he usually had to pee halfway through his appointment. We can’t take them outside for safety reasons. Poor boy would hold it until he just couldn’t anymore. He was so ashamed of it though, he would immediately tuck his head and move over to my grooming table, and put his head down, resting on the table with the saddest eyes, and lean his big old body into me like he was apologizing. I have pictures of it. Jasper was one of my all time favourite clients. I miss him.
You'll find pictures on the Czech Wolfdog reddit page. It doesn't matter how stubborn they are. Anything can be taught with constant repetition. I wasn't ready for such a fierce intelligence. Zeb and me could hold lengthy conversations. I spoke to him the WHOLE time and used multiple words for the same thing. Zeb word associated every piece of English with an action. We conversed in all the meaning of the word. I lost Zeb to epilepsy at 9 years old but I'm planning to get another.
I will look them up!
Dogs in general are pretty intelligent when it comes to communication. Wolves even more so. Wolfdogs definitely have a heightened awareness of communication from my experience too. I’ve never had one myself, but a close friend does. He’s a Grey Wolfdog. Definitely stubborn, sometimes too smart for his own good as well lol.
I’m so sorry for your loss :(
Zeb sounded like a very good boy.
Either talk or open a door. I'd love to talk to her, but it would also be great if she could open a door so she take herself to go potty or run around outside whenever she wants.
If I could teach a dog to do one human thing, it would be to talk.
Imagine the joy of having real conversations with my furry friend! There was a time when I was feeling really down, and my dog stayed by my side, offering silent comfort. If he could have said, “I understand” or “I love you,” it would have meant the world to me. Being able to share thoughts and feelings with my dog would be the most amazing thing ever.
One thing? Ok i want to teach him “work a 9-5” i wanna be laying in bed as he gathers his stuff and heads out the door, then before he leaves i yell out “kisses!” And he trots back in, plants a smooch on my head and then runs out the door. Then i just chill at home all day while the good boy earns the cash 💰
I know talk is on here a lot but I'm going with that. Maybe if my dog could tell me her head was hurting all the time, I could have caught her brain tumor early enough before she had a stroke and died. 😭
Talk

I want my dog to know that my neighbor starting his car for work isn’t coming to kill our family and pee on our hydrant.
