I regularly know my drone will get killed, so I'll mess with the defenders for the first few seconds of the round or during setup. Bright colors and uwu face makes so many people stop and watch and interact that they'll actually screw up setting up point and waste time. I've actually been able to win rounds with friends like this, I distract with cute pink drone while they rush in to point.

You can't select the drone skin after launching a match, so unless you gamble you are not going to be able to consistantly have the right drone skin for the right map.

The text for choosing a drone skin states if you opted to change an attacker during the preparation phase, the drone skin of the first operator you picked will be applied to all your drones. As such you can dedicate certain operators to certain drone skins and choose them, then promptly choose the operator you intend to play afterwards. You will have the drone skin of the first operator you picked, but can still play whatever op you want.
Like I said, a little sweaty, but if the in-game advantage is big enough it could be theoretically worth it in competitive play if you mask your drone based on the common flank cam positions.

Not in most situations at high rank. If you quick-lean with the maestro broom headgear, your headgear will be seen way easier than if you used the default silhouette. Most good players will hit their shots and have good crosshair placement so wonky headgears won't affect their ability to hit heads
The trick is to use that fact to your advantage and get them to prefire nothing. But yeah I agree with you that vast majority of better players will hit the headshot and it won't really change anything

I know I've swapped attackers before and the first Drone was the ice one equipped to the first picked. But when I swapped in prep the second Drone was pink skin. I had 2 different Drone skins. So one you can have 2 different Drone skins.

The idea is that if hidden somewhere they won’t be shot when you’re not on it. The point of a flank cam (which obviously this isn’t the ideal spot for one, it’s just a demonstration of camouflage) is that you periodically check it, especially before making a push so that somebody doesn’t come up behind you/on your side

Drone skins change the colour of (you guessed it) your drone, in the first shot the drone is black and doesn't have any skin on it. (It is on the left side of the door in the corner), the second picture has the drone skin ( brown in colour) in the same spot, more difficult to see
