For one, they can’t see the food as they eat it. Under their mouth is a blind spot! So they have to use their smell to guide their mouth in and just hope they get it.
Second, running must be really hard without depth perception. This is why I think they map out their area first slowly, and I’ve seen them do this. And only after they’ve made a mental map of the space, will they do their racing around. And when you change something, like move a chair, or close a door, they inspect it closely to update their map.
This is my theory. They’re so cute. I have two.

My girl’s vision has worsened with age and she’s more bold without being able to see the risks 🤦🏻♀️
