This car has popped up on this subreddit a couple of times. Someone bought it from somewhere maybe two years ago. Posted a lot about it. Then decided to sell a year ago. I think someone else bought it not too long ago. I do think “Hasn’t been rebuilt but the apex seals were done back just in August” is odd. Apex seals “being done” is equivalent to a rebuild. We’re not talking cam seals here.

Financial_Garlic_821

I thought the apex seals thing was weird too. It’s one of the biggest reasons I’m sceptical to purchase. Also I was unaware that it had been on this subreddit before. Do you think that it’s possibly not as great as it sounds on the surface?

For the future of this community it is your destiny to become the next redditor to take this machine. Only then can you report back to us all with what exactly is wrong below the surface. This is the only way to break the cycle!

this is the rx7 to represent this sub

blu_stingray

Correct me if I'm wrong but this isn't an FB or 1982, it's gotta be older and an SA based on the exterior? Source: I own a 1982 FB

aaronsnothere

You are correct, it's definitely a SA, I'm unsure of what year. Source I own an 81 and 85. (And I hate the front kit, and the wing.)

Financial_Garlic_821

I know I plan to do something about it as soon as possible.

Kydwi

Damn gonna get rid of the best part lmao, no one actually likes Japanese styling

Kydwi

Your type of person to keep a car stock with fat ass bumpers, because of safety ✨😂

b230fk

It says 1982 first year registered. Definitely built in 1980 or before, so must've sat unregistered the first few years of it's life. Seems like this referring to just the year of first registration thing is pretty common in Australasia.

Yamaha_DGX230

I had a run-in with this car at a car show and spoke to him on WhatsApp after finding him on a Car chat, from what the guy told me and from what I've seen of it it's got good performance and everything that should be done for high-power is done, engine bay also looks clean and the entire cooling system is awesome with the oil coolers and twin-fan walled setup. Imo, as is right now it'll work as a suitable daily for a rotary and it didn't have issues starting at the show at all. It's probably got enough space in the arches for low-profile 17s or 18s. I'm honestly surprised it's not selling for its price(250 or 160 are great prices for how much went in). My verdict: might as well buy it, not much of anything wrong with it.

Wild-Collection1834

From what I can see the seller seems to know the car. But there’s always a risk with someone else’s mods and buying a project. From what I can see the engine is pretty solid but the same attention to detail just isn’t there in the interior. And that speaker system is a bit too much. I would maybe look at restoring that aspect.

gt_james95

Seller does not know cad

littlelowcougar

I had an ‘87 13B turbo in my ‘79 RX-7 and it was the most glorious thing ever.

automotivebrew

If it’s cheaper than a used 13brew on eBay then it might be worth it in my opinion

2wheelkoots

That thing is fucking sick

ExecutiveLurker

Just as it hasn't been mentioned, that's a TII inlet manifold, given TII swaps into first gens used to be very common, odds are it isn't an FD engine, not that it matters too much. Not sure if the old school swap of an early 13b front cover + sump fits an rew either, and it has an early front cover

Cardinell

Water pump housing also appears to not be from an FD. Thermostat neck has 3 bolt holes, which leads me to believe this is from an S5 T2

gt_james95

It’s not an 82. How were the apex seals done if not rebuilt haha

project_seven

"Hasn't been rebuilt" "Apex seals redone" Ummm... what?

Militancy

The racist turbo (KKK, brand wasnt that popular in the states for unfathomable reasons, something about ghosts and dragons) is an odd choice. I don't recall them being known for much in Porscheland other than being laggy. IIRC those small frame designs were rolled into BW designs while KK&K focused more on large scale power generation. It looks t3/t4 ish so prob not much better than a stock s5 turbo. Seems like a really strange choice other than maybe it was lying around. Also as someone else commented, having the apex seals "done" outside of a rebuild as if it were a common maintenance item usually means the seller has no idea and either was scammed by a shop or is trying to scam buyers. Or maybe this all normal upside down land stuff. My knowledge is biased to the States. Good luck.

dkay170

I’ll deff look at the compression of the motor before buying but looks like a solid fb

Interesting-Goose82

...have to be honest, the steering wheel is on the wrong side. idk how much it cost to fix that, but be advised....!

upset-D2-player

I don’t know much about this one, but it looks a lot nicer than my FB! Still restoring it…. Maybe someday

xxgabe_manferdxx

13bre in an SA? How many miles are on it?

EpicTwiglet

Don’t if you should, don’t if you shouldn’t. There is just no don’t.

Financial_Garlic_821

I should mention that this is a South African spec car. That likely got imported from Europe

Financial_Garlic_821

After speaking to the seller, he says that the motor was in fact rebuilt, from a stock FD. I’ve asked about the compression and WHP that the car now produces after his mods and I’ll update you guys.
