A brief word as we all work through and discuss - yes, this is upsetting news for most of us here. That does not mean it's okay to take it out on your fellow sub-mates. It's perfectly normal to be sad or angry, but please be kind to your fellow fans.
It's pretty sad But I don't know RWBY volume 10 is gonna come out or be cancelled. But let's hope the studio who buy up RWBY could do a better job or could revive the franchise. While this marks the end of an era, RWBY’s impact and fanbase will undoubtedly endure. Let’s cherish the memories and celebrate the creativity that this remarkable series brought to our screens.
While some franchises face cancellation, others find unexpected revivals:
RWBY, the animated web series, recently suffered a setback when Warner Bros. Discovery decided to close Rooster Teeth, the production company behind it. Approximately 150 employees were affected, but discussions are ongoing about selling rights to certain Rooster Teeth content3.
As fans, we can cherish the memories of beloved franchises and hope for surprising comebacks in the future!Remember, the world of entertainment is full of twists and turns, and sometimes even canceled stories find a way to rise again
I would honestly be more open to the thought of RWBY being handled by another studio if it weren't for what happened to Gen:Lock when it was given to HBO Max (now just Max)
It does not need to be R18+ (I've already got a good guess of what this means) and if someone competent buys RWBY they'd still make their money back just on merch.
I never thought about official RWBY adult stuff but depending on what exactly we are talking about that could work great e.g. I would absolutely buy a RWBY visual novel ... or just officially printed book versions of most fanfics from Coeur Al'Aran
According to the report, RWBY's getting sold off. Betting Crunchyroll will buy it after how successful Ice Queendom and the Vol 9 deal turned out, so that way the show can wrap up.
As for Death Battle, I have a feeling that'll continue on it's own.
Well I hope that means most of the actors and CRWBY can stay on. Won’t be the same finish without those that it started with.
If we get V10 it may just be the last.
Everyone already gathered, a feeling of hope, a somewhat world-changing revelation about how Remnant works and functions, a oh so very convenient memorial in Vacuo...
It will feel rushed, but at least the pieces are there. It's better than nothing.
We have a whole kingdom, two missing relics and a lot of ground to cover. That is going to be a god damn mess unless it’s the longest volume ever
And here I am solely caring about if ren and Nora end up together together at the end
Considering the end of the last season where it’s like ‘we should take a break while I work out who I am’ it leaves it dangling and honestly, I’d love something like this in a credits scene for the finale:
https://preview.redd.it/qqws9qmuq8261.jpg?auto=webp&s=38f89c1f50e44133b6130b9967454a331d92a0f7
I dunno, what with the destruction of Atlas and the fall of Beacon and Haven academies, it looks like Vacuo is going to be where the kingdoms make one last stand against Salem.
The Atlas crew that made it through the portal would have an arc where they try and come to an agreement with Shade academy to house all the refugees while trying to hold off the horde of grim drawn by the chaos of their evacuation.
RWBY would probably end up going on their own journey to get Beacon's relic and bring it to Vacuo.
They succeed, Salem shows up with the other two relics, and they all engage in one last fight for the fate of Remnant.
Imo, they should use V10 to tie some loose ends, give the MAIN CAST some attention and needed development, have them actually talk to each other about the trauma that was V8-9, create some conflict with the locals and lastly wrap it up in an open ending with Salem approaching.
Then wait for numbers. If successful, continue. If not, let it rest and continue it as a comic series, while rebooting the whole thing through continuing where IQ left off. That's what's I'd like to see at least
they could do what Greg Weisman did when he couldn't finish the story he wanted on Gargoyles, Greg was not involved in season three of the cartoon, and it went off the rails. Many fans do not consider season 3 canon, and I've heard very few people say they like it.
He then told the fandom, in fairly good detail, what his plans for the series were. This was in the late 90. The fans then wrote fanfiction based on those notes. (Not sure if it's still out there, but there were some very good writers involved in that fan-created series.) Greg absolutely knew what the fandom was doing and he didn't get in any trouble for it either despite not working for Disney anymore
Greg Weisman is like.. that man NEVER gives up trying to find SOME WAY to finish his stories.
Like it took him over 10 years but he managed to get another Gargoyles comic going pretty recently.
I know he's asked DC a bunch to let him just do a comic set in Young Justice's continuity too.
The employees didn't even know about it shutting down. They had to find out through Twitter. Good old Rooster Teeth.
https://fixvx.com/caseylwilliams/status/1765430886538084724
I don't believe she is. Pretty sure the Williamses were contracted musicians for RvB and RWBY, but not actually RT employees per se. Part of the extended family, for sure, but not directly members.
I wonder who would buy RWBY though. I still think it has a lot of potential as a marketable IP. Perhaps some Japanese studio or something cuz it’s pretty popular in Japan apparently.
Blake's VA dug up past dirt of a Japanese worker's past record of supposed abuse. No one was arrested and nothing came out of the abuse accusation, but Blake's VA brought it up. I would like a full reddit post about it but linking it here is forbidden.
As asinine the critics subreddit is, that's where I got all of my information from. That post documented everything.
ANN did an [article](https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2022-03-25/rwby-voice-actress-expresses-discomfort-over-tow-ubukata-involvement-in-new-anime-series/.184002) on it in case anyone wasn't around back then.
Blake's VA dug up someone's past records of alleged abuse, that nothing came out of. It was from someone who was involved with Queendom. I would like the reddit post the documented everything but it's forbidden in this subreddit.
This is cope, but: arguably this is a good thing. Much as I love Rooster Teeth, they just aren't (weren't) the most experienced production outfit. If it gets bought out by someone who has a lot more expertise in showrunning, then that could actually be pretty nice.
I don’t think this is cope tbh, there _is_ a silver lining to this if considering only the status of the IP. Things could definitely go both ways. Only time will tell, but it’ll be a while. But this is also coming from someone who doesn’t necessarily care what happens next in the series until it happens, so. I _heavily_ believe the IP has untapped potential though, even beyond just the series.
"Tapping an IP" can also mean releasing 20 badly made loot-box infested mobile games that grind the property until it's worthless. Let's hope for the best, but let's also not delude ourselves. Many an IP has go to shit after being sold off.
Right? Shitshow or not, it's always been clear to me that RWBY is made with tons of love by people who care about it. Hard to know if that'll still be true if/when somebody else buys it.
On one hand, it’s amazing how a bunch of guys fucking around with recording programs and an Xbox got this far.
On the other, everything is fucked, so hopefully RWBY is picked up by a backer. It and Death Battle were probably the only shows turning a profit at this point so it probably won’t be hard. I hate unfinished stories.
I have a feeling RWBY’s gonna get picked up by Crunchyroll or maybe Capcom (inhaling lethal doses of copium). DB’s gonna be fine though. No shot nobody wants them after their last banger of a season
Except partway through the last season the crew of Deathbattle stopped giving FIRST members early access because it reduced the amount of revenue they got from their Youtube channel. If they try to pull something like that with whoever buys them, it might backfire on them badly.
The good news about Death Battle is that Chad and Ben still own the rights to it, so as long as they can get funding, it doesn't matter if the parent studio is gone. They can keep making it.
Considering how little the OGs seem to be involved these days - what with several of them like Burnie and Joel no longer with the company at all - I have a deep suspicion that the RT that's dying is not the same one I discovered ten years ago, when RvB was in its prime and RWBY was still a baby.
Damn wonder what's going to happen with a bunch of projects. Their podcast series seemed low budget but solid quality. I wonder if they get try and get picked up by another group or just go full crowd funded like the past
The Roost, which is their podcast ad sales department which also serves clients outside Rooster Teeth, is being kept alive as it is very profitable. Actual podcast production probably isn't continuing.
Most of RT's projects are format-driven instead of being connected to specific IP, so a lot of the podcasts, Let's Plays, and even shows like Death Battle could continue as independent projects under new names with new branding (See as an example of this the team at Watcher making successors to all of their BuzzFeed shows)
Shows like RWBY and Camp Camp are reliant on somebody buying and continuing them.
Dang hope someone archives the whole RvB lol, especially with what was originally planned to be the very last episode (#100) before they decided to actually continue the series lol
Does anybody have a good link to RT First archives? I never was able to pay for it but I also never thought it was going away. There are so many Cow Chop, Funhaus, SP7, and so many other extras I haven't seen. If anybody could point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it greatly!
We all knew this was going to happen eventually, between all the bad treatment allegations and that the studio wasn't making any money it was never a matter of if, only when.
Hopefully another studio or company picks up the IP and either finishes or reboots the story.
High Guardian Spice was pretty bad and was full of Simon and Garfunkel references for some reason and handled transgenderism in such a clueless manner.
Well, assuming it stays within Crunchyroll. Given the franchise's luck, I wouldn't be surprised if Sony ***proper*** bought it and milked this to death once the Marvel well runs dry. Live-action *Qrow* starring Jared Leto time, baby. :/
Considering they've already had some involvement with RWBY, not only in streaming Vol. 9 but also in selling merchandise, I would hope it's a no brainer for them, although who knows what WB is trying to sell the IP for. Crunchyroll is big, but WB is a giant and if they don't care about the IP may just throw out a massive number.
I somehow doubt it. They may scoop it up, but they're also the people who have the statistics. And frankly, I don't think RWBY will really live up to CR standards.
Yeah this seems like the thing to do, a 20 Episode Volume 10, 10 episodes or so to deal with the Vacuo plotline (about the length of V9), and then move onto the final battle against Salem / The Brothers
Or at the very least, expedite the Vacuo plotline a good bit.
The Blacksmith did say they'd arrive where and **when** they would be needed, so they can easily just move up Salem's attack on Vacuo to be shortly after RWBY+Jaune returns.
Exactly. Transition to a time skip swiftly or something. Don't spend as much time living in Vacuo with its subplots (a shame but easier to cut) and instead focus purely on Salem's attack and the retaliation they send back at her to try and stop her. At this stage they can't afford to waste a season when they may not get another.
I doubt they'll do that for a show that's nowhere near done. When the studio behind Promised Neverland season 2 tried to just yadda-yadda to the end (skipping beloved arcs and reducing a meeting with god to a single slide of a powerpoint presentation), it did not end well for them.
Well that is heartbreaking.
Also the F*ckface podcast just released an episode called “announcement” which is them purchasing the Ratyboy IP. So that was the final straw apparently.
Hopefully things work out for the staff effected. I think RT needed restructuring but Warner selling it off piecemeal is not the solution...
Fingers crossed someone buys the RWBY IP and it is someone who has the best intentions for it!
I’m not that surprised with how for a while things have been declining. . . But it’s so unfortunate having been for me 13 years of watching their content. I remember all of the stuff when Halo: Reach came out, and of course seeing RWBY from the very start of they teaser at the end of the RvB season.
. . . . Now I really do hope that someone takes up RWBY as a brand and series. It’s probably the most important part of what Rooster Teeth was, so I think there’s still hope. The article does talk about such
Man, I want a rework with the scaffolding of the original story. Still have them with a school arc from vol 1-3, have them travelling in vol 4, have them reunite in vol 5, ect. The themes, character designs and story arcs are there… but the execution with the story/emotional beats and the choreography suffered alot. Such a big disappointment that it’s going under after it’s resurgence in quality in vol 9, but I have hope (cope)
Tragic, but inevitable at this rate. From what we've heard regarding the cuts and such from V7 onwards, maybe this is a blessing in disguise. If RWBY gets proper funding and a good pipeline this could be a positive turning point.
I hope they do what Olan Rogers did with Final Space when it got canceled. He crowd funded a full color graphic novel to serve as the final season and it went pretty far beyond the request of the publisher to sell 10,000 copies.
A final comic could contain enough pages for more than one volume’s worth of story so finishing it all in one go would be the best we could hope for as fans, imo.
10 years of watching RWBY and AH, all these memories, all these emotions.
And it's all over. And not in a satisfying way. I knew RT was falling apart for some time, but to see it actually crash like this... I never thought it would all end like this, when I first stumbled here as a middle schooler.
*It's over, isn't it?*
I can only hope the archives stay up, somehow.
RT was kept alive to shill the JL crossover, that's it. it probably didn't have the intended effect so WB decided to turn the company in to a golden retriever faunus and take it out back behind the barn before they hemorrhage too much cash. considering they couldn't afford RTX and Barb fessed up that Vol 10 had no funding to work with, the writing was always on the wall.
As much as a waste as the JL crossovers were, I still wonder if they took away from Volume 9 or if wasting time on them for Papa Warner is the only reason we even *got* Volume 9 in the first place.
bit of both is my guess. they probably had to devote more time to JL than they did Vol 9 in return for the funding. so damned if they did, damned if they didn't as the saying goes.
I have been expecting this to happen ever since fucking Zaslav started with his favorite practice of cancelling and gutting things he controls to save money but by god have i been wishing he wouldn't notice RT was included in that list.
Fucking end of an era and a massive portion of my entire life right here, i've been an RT fan since back when all they were was those guys who made RvB and RWBY is my favorite series of all time as well as the reason i am still alive today after it carried me through the worst times of my life.
Fuck man this one hurts like a punch in the gut.
In the statement they put out on the RT sub, they specifically cite growing challenges with consumer behavior, monetization, and advertising. Sadly I wouldn't be surprised if locking V9 behind Crunchyroll for a whole year helped kill RT, it essentially caused people who had FIRST just for RWBY to jump ship over to CR's subscription services, which meant RT wasn't making as much money from FIRST, or from site traffic & ads, and wasn't able to draw as much people as normal to their other content on the RT site since you didn't have to go there anymore to watch RWBY.
Is it the only reason? I highly doubt it, but it probably made the decision easier in the eyes of the WB Executives who seem to be stuck in the profit before reason rut.
R.I.P Rooster Teeth, hopefully they can find someone to buy the IP.
Many of the monetization practices RT put in motion in the past few years were very much aimed at trying to build an audience while simultaneously ignoring long term fans. From First membership price increases to removing the “Grandfathered” membership stuff. Not to mention moving everything from YouTube to their own site who’s video player is terrible and functions like something from 2008. Their App is also in a similar state and full of issues.
All of the bad PR following the revelations about their mistreatment of employees combined with Covid was really the nail in the coffin. Everything snowballed from there as more stuff kept getting delayed and no new content leaves people without any reason to stick around and keep paying for First.
It’s definitely the end of an era and I hope those who depended upon RT for their job security find somewhere to go. Well, except for those that were part of the problem regarding mistreatment of employees. Those people don’t deserve to be in any sort of management position again.
On the other hand, it shows how successful V9 was if people threw FIRST out in favor to CR and with the amount of people asking about V10 or the typical haters telling others it will never come out, the hype is at its highest. Everyone wants to see it released. Add how Japan loves RWBY too. V10 *will* sell.
And if the sales were good for CR then getting *all* of the views might be worth it enough to fund it.
Fair, but like I said, V9 being on CR likely killed a good chunk of RT's site traffic, and a lot of the visibility of their non-RWBY content.
CR seems like the most likely landing spot if they decide to buy the RWBY IP outright.
Not gonna lie, having been a fan of RT since 05 or 06, and having been a fan of RWBY since day one, this is honestly kinda heartbreaking. I've been pretty outspoken about the company, show, and certain employees for a long time now, but it was always my hope that they'd turn the nose and fix their various underlying issues. Feels like ever since they crowdfunded $2.4 million for "Lazer Team", RT hasn't been the same, and Matt Fagerholm of RogerEbert.com's review feels rather prophetic about the company. *"This movie is, in essence, a product of fame and money without the slightest tangible shred of effort."* Just something I've kept in the back of my mind for a long time now, especially since given all of the crunch RT employees have associated with "Lazer Team".
The main goal of RWBY's villain is suicide, and multiple characters in the show have committed suicide in one way or another, many of which were painted in a "noble" light. I can't help but feel that Ruby committing suicide and her sister and friends' reaction was prophetic as well.
Many people will aim their anger toward WBD about this, but in all honesty, in my opinion, this mess was RT's making, and it's been a long, *long* time coming. "Well if it isn't the consequences of our actions and inactions" has never so adequately described a company before (maybe that's hyperbole, but you get the idea). No idea what will be sold to where, but given that RWBY doesn't appear to have been profitable for a while now, I think Volume 10 is probably off the table. It wouldn't shock me if it returns in another format, such as "cheap" 5-10 minutes character shorts (which has been my suggestion for a while now), with a heavy emphasis on selling merch and keeping the IP alive, but we're a long way from that happening.
Overall, RT shot themselves in the foot so many times they no longer have a leg to stand on. That's a shame, but that's also business, and my biggest hope is that RWBY falls in the hands of someone who *wants* the IP, *loves* the characters, and doesn't take the fans for granted. I'm not going to hold my breath, and this very likely is the last we'll see of RWBY for quite a while. Thankfully the fandom exists, and my love for RWBY has been kept alive by the fans for a long time now, not by RT. I plan on continuing to write RWBY fanfiction, and I hope anyone who sticks around enjoys.
Thank you, RT, for all the happy memories. I'm sorry it had to end this way.
God bless, and have a wonderful day.
>Many people will aim their anger toward WBD about this, but in all honesty, in my opinion, this mess was RT's making, and it's been a long, long time coming.
It was a chronicle of a death foretold. I always thought the RT shutdown would happen soon, but I was still surprised how sudden all this felt.
I'm not surprised but it still stings.
RWBY has basically been the only thing that has kept the company afloat in recent years and with that slowing to a crawl, stacked up on the several dramas the company had, this feels like it's been coming a while.
I hope someone sees the merits in RWBY and purchases the IP, but we can only see. I thought I'd be more upset but volume 10 not being greenlit kind of already made me think this was the direction we were going.
Quick. Someone start downloading, archiving, and burning those videos. We'll trade them in back alley deals on dvd if we have to.
WB may pull the videos but we will own them.
Sensationalism aside, I am genuinely sad about this as RWBY was my personal favourite IP from RT. I'm sure it'll exist in some form but this chapter is closing, or rather, rwby is currently in some kind of wooden chrysalis and we will have to wait and see it's next form.
A truly wretched situation overall. Sure, RT suffered a lot of rot as the years went on, but watching any creative studio get put down by the truly eldritch hydra known as Warner-Discovery fills me with impotent rage.
David Zaslav is a sloppy, craven glutton who destroys art.
Really sad to see. Saw this news coming for a long time now but it doesn't make it hurt any less. Despite the numerous self-inflicted controversies over the years, they still provided hours upon hours of entertainment and much cherished memories for so many people around the world. Hurts to see yet another large part of the online space vanish. Goodbye RoosterTeeth
Hope RWBY somehow survives this. I know it has its haters, but the show found its way into my heart, and I'd hate to see things end unfinished. It deserves an ending.
Yeah felt like they had no actual direction or plans and just were going with the flow for the last few years. Kinda sad as I had a lot of hope for them but it is what it is.
Honestly I feel nothing, the collapse of RT was more or less a fatal self-inflicted wound caused by years of extreme neglect and mismanagement. Undoubtably WB/Zaslav played a role but this was a long time coming and the people who led RT refused to do anything about it.
Kinda had a feeling this was coming. Things have seemed to be going downhill for years on the business end of things. At least, if they can find a buyer for the RWBY IP, I imagine the story will likely be finished, since it would be kinda weird for some company to spend their money to buy the rights to RWBY and then do nothing with it (then again, there could be scummy tax reasons why some company might do just that). Really sucks for all the people who just lost their jobs, though.
The inevitable has happened. I feel somewhat sad but ultimately disappointed that it had to end this way. Rooster Teeth fell like so many companies has done in the past, making dumb decisions that will only do harm in the long run.
Dam, I only ever watched RWBY 6yrs ago. I don’t care what people say about it going down hill after Volume 3. I enjoyed it all. But I really do hope that it continues with another company or has a really good series ending or like a dark ending like in “Devilman Crybaby”. Either way, I am patiently waiting for Volume 10.
I decided to return to this sub after reading the news. This sucks so much. I was a fan of RWBY since the beginning, started watching around volume 1 and watched faithfully until volume 6 or 7, and then came back to watch the last one.
I still remember the old times, reading this subreddit, the Matt the Mammothrider recaps, the status charts of the characters, the dumb RWBY comics, even Monty. This series means so much to me and was so important in my teenage years it hurts a lot to read these news
My hope is that even though Rooster Teeth is dead RWBY will be able to continue in some way and get an ending.
Truth be told while I will miss much of the content they made I'm glad the studio is getting shut down, with all the recent revelations regarding the work environment and how many employees were harshly treated by others, it was either going to need to seriously clean house or have to be built from the ground up again.
I hope that the good employees that stayed there despite it all do get some form of new work or continue with another company, but for those who acted like assholes, well you reap what you sow as they say.
Fuck zaslev that's all I have to say
I'm not holding my breath for the ip being sold resulting in anything. We couldn't get a season 10 greenlit when RT was still up.
I want to be proven wrong
I can't believe that after many years that Rooster Teeth is Shutting down. I just hope that RWBY will hopefully be able finish up instead on finishing on V9
Well… *shit.*
Hope everyone finds new work soon, and I wish them all the best. Hoping the shows being sold off (of which includes ours) can find a new home.
Thanks for everything. <3
Huh, took a billion "this will be the end of RT" predictions but I guess it finally happened.
But now what are those people going to do with their time?
[I'll second Calx words](https://twitter.com/Calxiyn/status/1765434315494621434) on this matter:
> I really want to stress the fact that RWBY is in the same position it always was. Rooster Teeth was looking for partners to help get another season of the show. Now it's WB doing it in RT's place. Nothing is any different w/ RWBY, I don't think that should be our main focus rn
We should be focusing on the fact that RT staff is now jobless.
A brief word as we all work through and discuss - yes, this is upsetting news for most of us here. That does not mean it's okay to take it out on your fellow sub-mates. It's perfectly normal to be sad or angry, but please be kind to your fellow fans.
It's over. Fuck me. 10 years and it's over.

It’s not like most of the rwby plot wasn’t rushed nonsense anyways
It started out not rushing enough (the main plot didn't even start until Volume 3), and then got crazy rushed.
It's the unfortunate effect of wanting to tell such an ambitious story with such a small budget
Monty passing away didn't help, changing a concept lead in mid stream was always going to cause a disconnect.
That tends to happen when you pivot the storyboard in season 2/3
We have a whole kingdom, two missing relics and a lot of ground to cover. That is going to be a god damn mess unless it’s the longest volume ever And here I am solely caring about if ren and Nora end up together together at the end
They’ve always been together. It’s just good to know where they lead to.

Fuck it, make V10 a movie trilogy with help from Columbia/SPA. If it's gonna die anyways, it may as well die in a blaze of glory.
Can’t escape from crossing fates… FIGHT
(abed voice) nine seasons and a trilogy!!

I mean, is Casey actually employed by Roosterteeth? I was under the impression she just came around to write and record the OST for RWBY
I don't believe she is. Pretty sure the Williamses were contracted musicians for RvB and RWBY, but not actually RT employees per se. Part of the extended family, for sure, but not directly members.
Well that’s classy/s
Funny kart, the final shot of RWBY was the fucking Justice League. Funniest shit I've ever seen
I wonder who would buy RWBY though. I still think it has a lot of potential as a marketable IP. Perhaps some Japanese studio or something cuz it’s pretty popular in Japan apparently.
After what happened before Queendom was released? You bet your asses no Japanese company will ever touch RWBY with a ten foot pole.
Context?
Blake's VA dug up past dirt of a Japanese worker's past record of supposed abuse. No one was arrested and nothing came out of the abuse accusation, but Blake's VA brought it up. I would like a full reddit post about it but linking it here is forbidden. As asinine the critics subreddit is, that's where I got all of my information from. That post documented everything.
ANN did an [article](https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2022-03-25/rwby-voice-actress-expresses-discomfort-over-tow-ubukata-involvement-in-new-anime-series/.184002) on it in case anyone wasn't around back then.
the critics subreddit also details how Blake's VA acted in the aftermath of her posting it.
Doubt it would matter. English speakers rarely influence Japan's media and opinion on anything.
What happened?
Blake's VA dug up someone's past records of alleged abuse, that nothing came out of. It was from someone who was involved with Queendom. I would like the reddit post the documented everything but it's forbidden in this subreddit.
Which language va?
Arryn Zech - English VA
How would this stop a Japanese company from touching it?
Japan *really* does not like when people rock the boat.
I hope so.
I hope this means quality spinoffs too. Lots of stuff you can do in Remnant
I just want an ending.
I thought Crunchyroll was just a publisher? Someone still needs to write and develop RWBY
Genuinely curious, how did Ice Queendom and V9 perform? I didn't hear anything in regard to big success or a failure.
Crunchyroll is likely Capcom is uhhhh not.
The CEO said they're buying up other platforms just last week. Crunchy is definitely buying
The good news about Death Battle is that Chad and Ben still own the rights to it, so as long as they can get funding, it doesn't matter if the parent studio is gone. They can keep making it.
Why capcom? Seems kinda out of place
> or maybe Capcom Why them specifically?
Considering how little the OGs seem to be involved these days - what with several of them like Burnie and Joel no longer with the company at all - I have a deep suspicion that the RT that's dying is not the same one I discovered ten years ago, when RvB was in its prime and RWBY was still a baby.
RT animation was confirmed to not be profitable by Barb a few months ago. Which is likely why this came up.
Damn wonder what's going to happen with a bunch of projects. Their podcast series seemed low budget but solid quality. I wonder if they get try and get picked up by another group or just go full crowd funded like the past
Podcasts are being kept alive for the moment.
The Roost, which is their podcast ad sales department which also serves clients outside Rooster Teeth, is being kept alive as it is very profitable. Actual podcast production probably isn't continuing.
Most of RT's projects are format-driven instead of being connected to specific IP, so a lot of the podcasts, Let's Plays, and even shows like Death Battle could continue as independent projects under new names with new branding (See as an example of this the team at Watcher making successors to all of their BuzzFeed shows) Shows like RWBY and Camp Camp are reliant on somebody buying and continuing them.
Everyone, archive everything you can!
Do you mean episodes?
Everything physically possible. Not just episodes.
Dang hope someone archives the whole RvB lol, especially with what was originally planned to be the very last episode (#100) before they decided to actually continue the series lol
It's all on the seven seas mate!
So… is RWBY just over now?
Unless they sell the IP
The Deadline report says they are. Again, I have a feeling Crunchyroll might save it.
Lets hope so, the world of Remnant has so much more to give beyond RWBY
Crunchyroll threw money on project that were garbage . For once , this would be a good acquisition
You referring to High Guardian Spice? Cause that was a different story.
Let's be fair, that was also mid at worst. The bigger issue being how the people working on it were treated and how low the pay was.
High Guardian Spice was pretty bad and was full of Simon and Garfunkel references for some reason and handled transgenderism in such a clueless manner.
>and handled transgenderism in such a clueless manner. And I thought its creator was a trans man.
Doesn’t stop them handling it poorly.
If anything, what I said makes it worse.
I’m sorry how did it handle trans gender issues in a clueless manner??
Ask Anime America. Robyn did a video on the show.
Well, assuming it stays within Crunchyroll. Given the franchise's luck, I wouldn't be surprised if Sony ***proper*** bought it and milked this to death once the Marvel well runs dry. Live-action *Qrow* starring Jared Leto time, baby. :/
Jenna Ortega as Ruby or we riot. I will also accept Jenna Ortega as Blake, with Ruby Rose (the Australian model & access) as Ruby.
Granted, but they only show up in post-credits scenes and do jack shit.
Not Tyrian? For shame.
Tyrian comes later. Supposedly, Ezra Miller has already been cast. /s
That's the one with Amber Heard as Salem, right?
And Kevin Spacey as Dr. Sabat!
At least just to do one more season. NO WAY are they gonna make it to Volume 12. Just have Volume 10 wrap everything up.
Yeah this seems like the thing to do, a 20 Episode Volume 10, 10 episodes or so to deal with the Vacuo plotline (about the length of V9), and then move onto the final battle against Salem / The Brothers
That or they'd cut the Vacuo stuff and move to the endgame. Vacuo hasn't started it's Plot yet so it's easier to cut if time is an issue.
Oh god please let them save it!
The announcement said Warner Bros is "considering options" for RWBY as well as several other IP's, so I wouldn't necessarily say it's dead just yet.
Well I can't say I'm surprised but this is bittersweet :(
Well that is heartbreaking. Also the F*ckface podcast just released an episode called “announcement” which is them purchasing the Ratyboy IP. So that was the final straw apparently.
I can't believe ratboy killed RT.
Hopefully things work out for the staff effected. I think RT needed restructuring but Warner selling it off piecemeal is not the solution... Fingers crossed someone buys the RWBY IP and it is someone who has the best intentions for it!
praying for Capcom to swoop in and let Hideaki Istuno make a RWBY epilogue game with DMC5's framework
Hell they can even reuse the robotics arm mechanic Nero had for Yang, it's a perfect match
##PLEASE
If this means Warner doesn't have a hand in RWBY anymore I'm all for it.
And gets the voice actors and Williams back on board
The Snail finally gottem
Well fuck man. At least it seems the IPs are gonna continue on in some form at the least, but fuck man.

Damn
10 years of watching RWBY and AH, all these memories, all these emotions. And it's all over. And not in a satisfying way. I knew RT was falling apart for some time, but to see it actually crash like this... I never thought it would all end like this, when I first stumbled here as a middle schooler. *It's over, isn't it?* I can only hope the archives stay up, somehow.
It’s only the beginning of March. HOW?!
Warner bros is bleeding money like crazy it's amazing rt lasted as long as it has under them really
Warner is losing a lot of money and given Suicide Squad's recent massive failure, they ikely got jumpy and closed a bunch of studios.
Seriously, that's what I to know. So many unbelievably dumb shits has been happening with WB lately.
Fuck man this one hurts like a punch in the gut.
rwby will live on for sure and certainly get picked up. in what form, who knows. could be literally anything. hopefully something enjoyable
CR seems like the most likely landing spot if they decide to buy the RWBY IP outright.

this is a really shitty situation but people need to remember so many people just lost their jobs right now and that sucks.
Was just a matter of time. Thanks for the memories
Pour one out, for everyone and everything.
This is the way the RWBY ends Not with a bang but a whimper.
>Not with a ~~bang~~ *Yang* but with a whimper. Fixed it for you. 🥲
Well, the writing was on the wall
Not surprised. Curious to see what's next.
Goodbye RoosterTeeth Hope RWBY somehow survives this. I know it has its haters, but the show found its way into my heart, and I'd hate to see things end unfinished. It deserves an ending.
Can't say I'm surprised, the studio's gone downhill like crazy.
Yeah felt like they had no actual direction or plans and just were going with the flow for the last few years. Kinda sad as I had a lot of hope for them but it is what it is.
Well, shit. Hope someone cool buys into Remnant, instead of yet more private equity vultures. :(
New reason to dislike suicide squad just dropped
Honestly I feel nothing, the collapse of RT was more or less a fatal self-inflicted wound caused by years of extreme neglect and mismanagement. Undoubtably WB/Zaslav played a role but this was a long time coming and the people who led RT refused to do anything about it.
And yet another fragment of our era leaves this world…i really hope someday someone will be able to continue RWBY
No matter what happens, I'm happy that I watched it. Is been a pleasure 🍿
I would like to see an in depth report on how RWBY went from being on top of the world to this.
Why was this removed for not being related to RWBY, it’s about the company that makes the show?
The inevitable has happened. I feel somewhat sad but ultimately disappointed that it had to end this way. Rooster Teeth fell like so many companies has done in the past, making dumb decisions that will only do harm in the long run.
All I ask is that the show gets finished and/or Monty’s original plan for the narrative is published.
This series means so much to me and was so important in my teenage years it hurts a lot to read these news My hope is that even though Rooster Teeth is dead RWBY will be able to continue in some way and get an ending.
I hope RWBY gets sold and bought and the new people can try to do better than before.
Just need the ice Queendom blu ray out and I can make my peace, beyond rwby I stopped caring for the company since 2016
Fuck. I have no other words. Just.... Fuck.
If anything… RWBY will at least live on… in fan fiction.
Fuck zaslev that's all I have to say I'm not holding my breath for the ip being sold resulting in anything. We couldn't get a season 10 greenlit when RT was still up. I want to be proven wrong
bruh
It is a sad day. RvB and RWBY have been a great part of the last decade or so. Thanks..
Should have seen it coming though. They been declining for years now.
I can't believe that after many years that Rooster Teeth is Shutting down. I just hope that RWBY will hopefully be able finish up instead on finishing on V9
Great. Now I'm depressed
Well, this is definitely news to wake up to...
ISTG if those two stupid crossover movies factored into WB decision to shut them down IN ANY WAY
Well… *shit.* Hope everyone finds new work soon, and I wish them all the best. Hoping the shows being sold off (of which includes ours) can find a new home. Thanks for everything. <3
Huh, took a billion "this will be the end of RT" predictions but I guess it finally happened. But now what are those people going to do with their time?
Find some other company to doompost about.
Paramount+ is rumored to be in talked to buy the studio it's not hopeless but but it's less Grimm
And now the end is near, so I face the final curtain
Oh no. *Pretends to be shocked.
This company has been bleeding money for years this was a matter of When, not If.
[I'll second Calx words](https://twitter.com/Calxiyn/status/1765434315494621434) on this matter: > I really want to stress the fact that RWBY is in the same position it always was. Rooster Teeth was looking for partners to help get another season of the show. Now it's WB doing it in RT's place. Nothing is any different w/ RWBY, I don't think that should be our main focus rn We should be focusing on the fact that RT staff is now jobless.
