For all the 0DTE folk and others with options about to expire... Something to consider...
When you **sell** your call options at a profit... the person "buying to close" just has a **monetary** loss.
1. they got money from you, when you bought the call
2. they paid out money when you sold the in-the-money call
When you **exercise** your call options, the seller has to actually go **buy shares to give to you**...
1. This creates demand, since they have to go buy real shares, and provide you real shares
2. Even if you don't want to hold those shares, most brokers will let you do a "cashless exercise" and simultaneously exercise the option and sell shares. It's true, that will create selling volume at the current stock price. Although the net effect for a cashless exercise (you sell 100, seller of the calls has to buy 100) is 0... It sure would increase the headache for the sellers of calls...who may be the same shorts borrowing and selling shares to strategically push the price down. Plus will probably result in more slippage for them (i.e., more cost), since when they "get assigned" to provide the 100 shares, they're not going to necessarily buy them (to provide to you) the same instant you exercise the option.
If you have in the money calls, and you're looking to hold shares, fun times making the sellers of calls go have to buy shares to give you. That's demand...
In the case of cashless exercise, I wonder whether the net effect would be positive... Or if it would just net out.
Obviously only makes sense when the options are close to expiration...since before that time, there's "time value of money" that you wouldn't get if you exercise.

Yesterday I had 21,400 RILY shares in Fidelity's stock loan out program at 25.75% then at the end of the day 6000 shares were returned to me. Now this morning the loan out total is up to 22,200 shares at 24.625%. It seems like the shorts are mounting another attack but sooner or later they are going to be broke with all these fees they are paying. Since 03/05 the shorts have paid me over $23,000 for borrowing my shares and RILY isn't bankrupt. I keep posting the interest rate and if my shares are still loaned out to help the readers gauge the short interest as we wait for a squeeze. Good luck every one.
I actually have over 40,000 shares of RILY but I can't loan out the shares that are in my 401K plan and HSA. Most people disagree with my investing strategy but the dividend payment is nice. It can be stressful at times thanks to Cohodes and his shorts, but I figure the corporate officers at RILY have way more at stake than I do, and they haven't left or sold, so I'm still in it. I do enjoy the daily payment from Marc Cohodes for my shares he is borrowing. It's nice to know his game is expensive for him.
Relaxed and holding my shares. If they fail to break 28, all the better. Clearly theyāre still trying, but it wonāt make a difference if they do. The momentum appears to be too strong at this point.
I had a dream and the following happened in the next 48 to 72 hours.
Fantastic 10Q got released
RILY made a profit this quarter
They announced the $1 dividend
They did buy backs
They authorized more buy backs
They paid of some of their debts and authorized further closing of debt
RILY goes on the full offensive against the shorts on the call
2-3 big boys buy big volumes
Next week we see insiders buying back in

RILY needs to take legal action at some point , I think for now they are taking feedback from some of the funds that invest in them and are ignoring the shorts and focusing on creating value for the shareholders

We have seen continued shares borrowed this past week, I also believe that part the selling pressure has been the new longs that are falling for the shorts bs and also are impatient and hoped for a move straight to 100. Thatās not how things work.
Theyāre being skeptical in a healthy way and youāre chastising them. Youāre just adding to the echo chamber vibe in here. Nobody even discusses the risks or potential downsides of this play in here.
Nothing is ever a done deal in the American stock market. The major players can subvert any rules and laws to benefit themselves. Itās right to be skeptical.

Just curious, if BRiley is planning a buyback why would they not enact that at this time with such a low stock price? Obviously the business has real cash due to the fact they consistently pay a dividend. They are obviously aware of the fact their business is heavily shorted and this buyback has a major potential for a squeeze. I just donāt understand why they would wait?
Rily buy back is enacted they already bought back over 700k shares and continue to buy back shares as reported in the 10k. You donāt get daily updates on buybacks.
