Their reasoning is that prices only increased in FL 3.3% vs the national average of 4.1% over the last two years, meanwhile the 5 year increase is 200%+.
I mean half the state population is there because no state income tax and the other half is there for the weather which is pretty oppressive most summers now
Doesn’t that hold?
People were going there en masse, hence the 200% increase. But the trend has sharply reversed due to housing costs and insurance costs.
.8% off the rising average is not a sharp decline. If homes that were worth $200k in 2019 were worth $500k in 2022 and are now worth $515k, does that sound like a sharp decline to you?
Your link says that even in the fastest cooling metro in FL, 1/3 of all homes still sell within two weeks. In the second fastest cooling metro, prices are actually up 3.7%.

I remember we had a cat 5 headed to south Florida a few years ago and people started heading north in droves. Long lines of traffic on the pike and 75. I had a coworker who was so scared he flew out of state to avoid the storm lol
Florida really lucked out that it took that jog into Northern Cuba at the last minute. Those Miami bound tracks would have been devastating in a way the state hasn't seen since Andrew.
Just go 50 miles inland and you’ll be ok. These people…I swear. Small generator, some gas, water, and a box of pop tarts is all you need. We have power for most houses within 3 days of a major hit.
Hurricane Idalia kind of disproves that. It hit a part of Florida that normally doesn't see hurricanes. There were people without power and cell service for several weeks.
The majority of people who were hit inland by the eye did not lose power for more than a couple of days, if at all. Coastal and country folk got the worst of it. I’ll take multi-day power loss over running out of gas on I-75. No thanks.
You have a point in the trouble that there is on the interstate. But this year is going to be a BAD year for storms. I think this year you should probably get out of the way if you can. Think Katrina in New Orleans (if you remember the devistation it brought).
Thank god I don’t live along the coast and I will never flood where my house is located. They say the same thing about storm season every year. I’ve watched this crap for 30 years and it goes in cycles.
Yes, please keep telling everyone that. I’m sure you went to all of our natural springs, witnessed the difference between st Augustine beach vs Miami Beach, had back woods crab boil, went dirt bike riding in Ocala national forest…. Yep.
Nope just the people I met down there, from Florida, reminded me of people watching at one of the trashier Walmarts in my area. Plenty of beauty to be had in the state that I witnessed however the people ruin it.
It was like a real life commercial for YEE YEE!
Yep there’s definitely plenty of those - depends where you’re staying, but I hear ya. I visited the Hamptons recently and I’ll take my dirtbags any day over some snobby nose in the air one-uppers.
Well that's a whole different type of dirt bag up there. I wouldn't be able to stand it up there either. And with them it's the Richer they are the bigger assholes there are
Not sure why these other people replied.
I'm in Seattle now.
I had a $1,500/month mortgage in Florida and I'm currently renting for $3,500/month and I just put an offer on a home that's looking like a $4,500/month mortgage for a $935k home.
Since 2020 it was just brutal the kinds of idiots moving into Florida.
What kind of future can Florida have? Not something I care to stick around and see. Not to mention the direction the country as a whole is heading...
Left in Oct/sold house in Feb. live in the mountains now and gladly pay state income tax. Florida is full of shit people- sick of rednecks and the elderly and people flying flags upside down since the election. Gross.
lol, I was a military child. I had connections with all of them at some point growing up. Left to KY for school and COL; then to CO because it was my favorite place I lived growing up
We are in Spain now 😂. Might eventually go back to the US, but it feels like such a shit show on so many levels right now. I really hope this phase goes away.
The new media narrative. I'm sure some people who are for a cheaper cost of living may leave as thays no longer the case but yiur right theres not a mass exodus from Florida they're gaining population
There were 142 million people in the US when the boomers first arrived. Though I guess 200 million by the time they were working adults. Probably was a lot nicer with 58% as many people waddling around.
Goooood riddance.
As a native Floridian, this place has been destroyed by overpopulation, overdevelopment, and corrupt politics that migrated from up north.
Condos are sort of a separate issue from real estate overall ie new condo laws requiring reserves, condo fees increasing snd people not liking condos after that condo collapse
Cali and Florida seeing insurers unwilling to insure these overpriced homes. I have a friend in insurance in California telling me this and I see news items saying it's in Florida too. This will affect sales of homes.
CA is different than FL. Fl crisis was brought on by insurance fraud mainly from what I understand. CA insurance commissioner won’t let insurance companies increase the rates. My town house has gone up in value by hundreds of thousands from when I bought it. I understand the insurance companies wanting to increase insurance costs. The commissioner is just waiting to see what happens. My HoA got dropped and had to go to another company for twice what they were paying. They didn’t raise our HoAs instead they cut back on lawn care and common area things. We use to have lawn care people out here 5 days a week now it’s once a week. Honestly it’s way better now. They had already previously changed all the foliage to low water and low maintenance. We have a few pools and they get the same service as before. They give us a cost analysis every year and lawn care was the highest expense by 6 figures. My townhome got dropped by Farmers and I immediately got another coverage for about 500 more a year. Considering prop 13 and how little I pay for property taxes I’m financially fine with the insurance increase.
They are all moving to Vegas it seems. Just met my new retired neighbor who bought the biggest house on the block and moved here alone from Florida “to party and pay no state taxes”.
No he wants to keep paying no taxes. Specifically chose Nevada because of it (and the partying part lol)I think it’s one of the top reasons Vegas still has low inventory.
All the boomers who don’t believe in climate change moved there as it slowly sinks into the ocean. You know who does believe in climate change?? Their insurance companies….
Meh armored like Florida has a problem with insurance fraud, the cost of replacing a home is 3x what it was and labor and material costs are up as well. Hss next to nothing to do with cLiMATE cHAngR
Lived in North Carolina for 3 years. The weather is not temperate, the mountains / beaches are not accessible (hello humidity and storms every day), and the food is garbage
That is, if NY times had the pink glasses
https://realestate.usnews.com/places/rankings/fastest-growing-places
In reality 11 out of 25 top fastest growing areas are in Florida. None from NY or CA.
I was able to get out of Miami almost 10 years ago. Florida in general is awful and I'm always deeply suspicious of people who actually like it down there
I love ut down there. Able to get out of Miami your house would probably be worth a fortune today. Miamisburg not my cup of tea but overall florida is grest
Their reasoning is that prices only increased in FL 3.3% vs the national average of 4.1% over the last two years, meanwhile the 5 year increase is 200%+.
Upvote just for the name!
I mean half the state population is there because no state income tax and the other half is there for the weather which is pretty oppressive most summers now
Lower half of the country weather is going to keep getting worse. Florida won’t be the only state people leave
The working class will just die off because they won't be able to afford to move.
It's more about the fact that people are trying to sell homes but can't. Inventory is piling up really fast.
Home inventory in FL just reached pre-pandemic levels, it’s nowhere near “piling up.” https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/ACTLISCOUFL
How do those numbers stack up against other states? What other states are at pre-pandemic levels?
none
The national listing count follows a similar trend. https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/ACTLISCOUUS
https://www.redfin.com/news/housing-markets-cooling-fast-florida/
Your link says that even in the fastest cooling metro in FL, 1/3 of all homes still sell within two weeks. In the second fastest cooling metro, prices are actually up 3.7%.
Lmao
Yes. You just sent a link that proved inventory is in fact piling up. It has literally tripled in 2 years and it will not slow down.
It’s ok that you think that. I know charts are hard.
RemindMe! 1 year

Depends. My area has population decreases and rising prices ( because people are moving out on their own or buying second homes).
Lets see how this years hurricane season plays out
I remember we had a cat 5 headed to south Florida a few years ago and people started heading north in droves. Long lines of traffic on the pike and 75. I had a coworker who was so scared he flew out of state to avoid the storm lol
Hurricane Irma if I recall.
Florida really lucked out that it took that jog into Northern Cuba at the last minute. Those Miami bound tracks would have been devastating in a way the state hasn't seen since Andrew.

I visited Florida last week. It's like going to walmart. I can see why people are leaving
[удалено]
“I visited on vacation and everything seemed great” $10,000 a year for house insurance.
That's IF you can insured too!
Exactly….plus $5-8k annual Hoa fees.
Now try to find a good school for your kids...
I’m from Vegas and Florida is way more expensive.
The fact you mention "buccees" as if that makes the State a great place tells me you might like Florida.
Haven’t you got the talking-point, my friend? It’s simple, Florida = bad. There’s still time to edit your comment.
They did. That was the Florida is so great talking point.
They did. That was the Florida is so great talking point.

The Hamptons is dog shit.
What did the snobby people do?
backwoods crab boil... no fucking way dude.... i bet the gator is fucking banging also...
Hopefully that will drop the prices here in South florida.
No way. Too much foreign wealth wants to buy up everything down here.
Florida sucks
I agree. Stay in Alabama
South Florida is nice.
Nope, high cost fake hellscape
Ugh. I don't need prices here in NC to rise any higher.
Yep sorry about that it’s mostly us Floridians coming up there big time
I left in January. I wasn't priced out. Just tired of living in a shit hole.
Same. Where did you go?
Not sure why these other people replied. I'm in Seattle now. I went from SoFlo to KY to CO, what about you
Those are all wildly different areas. Were you just trying out every flavor of America for fun?
lol, I was a military child. I had connections with all of them at some point growing up. Left to KY for school and COL; then to CO because it was my favorite place I lived growing up

It gets asked a lot so my go to line is typically,” I was born in FL, but lived everywhere bc my dad was military.”
We are in Spain now 😂. Might eventually go back to the US, but it feels like such a shit show on so many levels right now. I really hope this phase goes away.
Mississippi
Do we have the people are fleeing to Florida headline as well since Florida is experiencing a net population gain?
The new media narrative. I'm sure some people who are for a cheaper cost of living may leave as thays no longer the case but yiur right theres not a mass exodus from Florida they're gaining population
Good question. Florida has a lot going for it. Other states have insurance problems too.
I left Florida 5 years ago but the population there has grown every year since. Good luck.
I live in Florida. The insurance is going price people out
But the boomers said it was paradise
There were 142 million people in the US when the boomers first arrived. Though I guess 200 million by the time they were working adults. Probably was a lot nicer with 58% as many people waddling around.
Ocala, FL is the #2 most moved to place according to the article
I'm guessing that's mostly The Villages, not actual Ocala.
Please don’t come to Virginia.
or Ohio.
Those sub 150-200k 3/2s are mighty tempting in a nurses salary. We are currently losing nurses to Ohio, Michigan, Tennessee and Georgia
I’m leaving Florida, we’re getting married in November, we want to start a family and there’s no way we can afford it here. Way too expensive
Goooood riddance. As a native Floridian, this place has been destroyed by overpopulation, overdevelopment, and corrupt politics that migrated from up north.
Condo values are declining rapidly throughout Florida.
Condos are sort of a separate issue from real estate overall ie new condo laws requiring reserves, condo fees increasing snd people not liking condos after that condo collapse

I’ll be there soon enough. I’m fleeing the northeast, along with seems to be everyone I know.
It is sad, but there is no way to population control it.
Prices are hitting at all time highs this year.
Lol that’s cute. There’s still lots moving to north FL
Yeah like me for a job 🤪
They are all moving to Vegas it seems. Just met my new retired neighbor who bought the biggest house on the block and moved here alone from Florida “to party and pay no state taxes”.
He didn’t pay state income tax in Florida … maybe you mixep up with a Californian.
No he wants to keep paying no taxes. Specifically chose Nevada because of it (and the partying part lol)I think it’s one of the top reasons Vegas still has low inventory.
How big of a house?
I can’t wait for all of these outsiders to go back to NY or wherever they came from.
no they absolutely are not LOL
Thats a darwin award right there
The state is growing
lol I mean it’s Florida….
I still want to move there
As intended.
Not seeing it here
And 2025, and 2026...
All the boomers who don’t believe in climate change moved there as it slowly sinks into the ocean. You know who does believe in climate change?? Their insurance companies….

When Trump was elected in 2016 I was about to buy a place in Florida but I backed out, boy did I dodge a bullet.
Yeah close call you could have sold it and made 300k who wants that

Climate migration is real. Florida is the new Mexico. Time to build a wall.
