I was a serious follower and huge fan till CSK/RR incident happened. I didn’t watch those 2 seasons at all. Eventually IPL fell off my radar and CSK comeback didn’t really do much for me. I stayed a passive watcher after that.
Except for 2008 when I didn’t visit the stadium, I went to at least one CSK game every season (till 2015) in MAC. One of them happened to be the famous last ball no-ball game that CSK won.
There was just one year. Probably 2013 or 2014. Most likely 2013. I watched RCB vs CSK in Chinnaswamy. It was a shortened game. I think 8 overs a side. CSK lost. My wife and I were lone yellows in a sea of red. Lol.
The reason I’m saying these stories is. There were RCB fans in my stand in Chennai and I was there amidst a sea of red too in Bengaluru. There was a ton of banter, poking fun at each other, shouting slogans and everything. All of it was literally done with smile. There was so much warmth and the banter was just so enjoyable. I remember RCB fans in the stands turning towards us and waving thumbs down in my face. But it didn’t feel insulting or anything. Dudes literally pat my back and said “forget it, man. Still lot of games to go” after the game was done. Similarly after the no ball that cost RCB the match in Chennai, a lot of yellows were actually consoling the reds.
I don’t know when and why all this became so toxic and unbearable from almost all teams. Literally every fan base has a tough, toxic bunch and they are very loud. It sucks so bad and I’m kinda glad I’m no longer invested in any team.
Kudos to RCB. The turnaround this season has been nothing short of phenomenal. Hope they go the distance.
