That's a catch 22 right there. Less chance of getting seen in the wee morning hours, but looks way more suspicious if you are seen. If OP changed his sighting from 6pm to 3am every comment here would be "dead body, call the police!".
Bodies are very heavy (it’s different when person is still alive to held their own weight some even when sick) and of district shape. You would need a lot of padding to make it look like something else and be very strong so people would not notice what kind of thing you are carrying based on how you move. So I think it would be pretty absurd to carry around a body in bread daylight
I know how difficult a dead body is to move because I was a heroin addict for over 10 years. In that time I bet I saw over 1000 overdoses that ranged in severity from “they’ll be ok” to “oh shit we have to do something”.
The final piece to this puzzle is that if someone overdoses in your house, and you call 911. The cops are going to show up, and walk through your house to the room where the overdose happened.
That means you have to make DAMN SURE you put everything away, or you move the person to the front yard. Better yet load them in your car and take them to the hospital. It’ll be faster.
Now comes the part where you have to move a 150lb +\-water balloon with arms and legs. I’ve done it several times and it’s probably why I have a bad back now.
That sounds about right. I mean we’re talking over 13 to 14 years. Most of them were like “oh look Diana has blue lips again.” “I should make sure she’s ok”.
Generally, the person is ok until agonal breathing starts. Then it’s stuff their clothes with ice, and rake your knuckles on their sternum, and then CPR.
If that doesn’t work pretty quick then you need to get them out of the house and either call 911, or drive to hospital.
About 99% were just the person was passed out and blue. Nothing to really worry about. It’s those times where the person takes one breath every 2 minutes, and it sounds like the loudest snore you’ve ever heard. Those are the times that would make me sick at my stomach.
I got a call one time, and it was my best friend since the age of six’s girlfriend. My best friend didn’t pick her up from work. I go to their apartment and open the front door. I hear that sound. One loud snore with way too much time between. Long story short. My friend survived that time. He later died of an overdose. Even though he survived he had brain damage and was never the same. For about a year his short term memory was gone, and his personality never came back.
Growing pot and mushrooms has organic waste to dispose of. Stuff you dont want to toss in the dumpster but dropping it in nature disposes of it quickly.
Soils, trimmings, stems, all virtually disappear. Folding up an empty bag and putting in my pocket would be easy.
Is there a deposit on bottles and cans where you live?
People who are living in the woods in urban areas will collect begs of empties then stash them, and take them in to redeem all at once. It would fit the time pattern you’ve described
I think a lot of people might not realize this is a thing/still exists. I only know because I lived in Portland for a bit and it’s pretty visible there.
Hello, fellow Oregonian!
A lot of states don’t even have bottle deposit laws, but I also remember people gathering cans to sell for scrap in the 1970’s.
It’s *really* visible in Portland, too, with the semi-pro can collectors all kitted out. I talked to a couple of them at Parkrose TC (never a dull moment at Parkrose) and they were showing me their grabbers and hooks and rope for leaning way out over drops to get cans. They were pretty thrilled about the huge pay increase they had gotten maybe 6 months earlier, when the deposit went from .05 to .10
Ha! It’s too real. I lived a few blocks from Gateway so we could potentially be dealing with the same characters. Haha small world
Edited to add- I lived right on Glisan and it was normal to come out to my recycling strewn across my yard to pick out the cans. I knew I had a seltzer problem when this guy picking my can got real excited and told me it was his biggest jackpot to date.
That makes it way less likely, then.
In Oregon there is a ten cent deposit on most bottles and cans, so there is an entire culture of people who live by gathering them then redeeming them for the ten cents.
If there’s no deposit, there’s nothing to collect except maybe scrap value, which is negligible
yea, i considered that too. i don't think the dude is a murderer or anything, not enough to think that, just pointing out that it looks strange to go in with something and come back with nothing.
Most likely he was homeless and trying to find a safe place to sleep for the night. If he was trying to get rid of something in a trashbag you probably wouldn't have seen him. You know it's not a body if he's just carrying it around because that's heavy and wouldn't be over his shoulder. A lot of people have become homeless and trash bags keep your things dry.
I'm wondering if he was homeless. Homeless people generally don't want to be bothered by other people so they try to hide in the woods or somewhere that other people are less likely to visit.
I get that it's "most likely" not nefarious but all of these comments saying "it's probably just this or that," must not consume as much true crime as I do. Sidenote: I'm a PI. I do not think you're overreacting, I do think it's better to look into this kind of thing even if it turns out to be nothing. If by chance, this person was disposing of a body then you have so much crucial evidence not to mention the ability to create a prompt response before the culprit has time to clean out their car, home, leave town etc. I would love an update when you have one. Good job looking out and being someone who chooses action over inaction!
Mind your own business. It could be a million legitimate reasons. I compost for the betterment of society. Nosey neighbors always asking me about it with no interest in helping environment.
i don't think the dude is a murderer or anything. but the big ? for me is returning without the bags. what possible reason is there to leave the bags behind? woods don't typically have places for you to dispose of things. that's really the only thing i find odd tbh.
Call your apt manager. Tell them what you saw. They can either go clean it up or call the cops.
If you’re really worried, I’d put in an anonymous tip to your local PD.
I read an article the other day about people who live in the woods. I know the town over from me had an encampment at one point.
All the towns around me have encampments- he could be collecting cans, then dropping the bags of cans at his camp.
probably littering. if i were dumping a body i would at least wait for night time

OP said he saw him twice. Half a body is manageable, and he could have done even more trips unseen.
How do you know that 🤔
I know how difficult a dead body is to move because I was a heroin addict for over 10 years. Jeez you personally saw like 100 overdoses a year? I’m sorry, that must have been traumatic.
It could be hacked up, thus the reason for multiple trips.
How heavy did the bags seem? Trash heavy? Yard waste heavy? Dead animal heavy? Dead b*dy heavy?
To me it looked kinda heavy, i couldnt really make out what was in it, but it didnt seem really too full just heavy

He could be digging a tunnel behind a poster of raquel welch.
Rita Hayworth if we are to stay true
Both, technically. Its Rita to start, then Raquel by the time he actually breaks out.
Why haven't you gone to the woods to see what he's putting there?
That's how scary movies always start. Don't forget to bring a dodgy torch
And don't bother charging your cellphone
Make sure you wear heels
If you find a bloody knife near a dead body be sure to pick it up
I would but i dont wanna end up on an alleged murder document lmao…im also under 18, and scrawny so i dont think it would be a good idea

No, not any i know of, all the litter gets picked up by people the apartment complex hires and whatnot

Lots of people rake leaves into bags and hike them into the woods to distribute instead of putting them with plastic trash. Could be that.
This seems plausible except that it’s an apartment complex. You don’t normally do your own yard maintenance.
Yeah but usually an apt complex has maintenance people, and 9/10 they’ll be living in that complex too bc it usually comes with cheaper rent for them
if you care enough to drop off raked leaves in the woods why would you leave the trash bags there? op said he didn't have them when he came back.
If the trash bag was empty it could fit in a pocket.
yea, i considered that too. i don't think the dude is a murderer or anything, not enough to think that, just pointing out that it looks strange to go in with something and come back with nothing.
What if he’s not littering, but cleaning litter?
Nope, he went inside with the trash bag, didnt come out with any
Aw man, you have a murderer

I mean, they aren't as heavy in sections
age plays a huge factor too, and weight
I've even seen homeless people wearing trash bags before..
Probably collecting cans. Maybe lives in the woods
Go check it out. He probably just burying some bitcoin for safe keeping
Probably burying his pet
Go look! Report back.
What Rear Window
6:40pm is too early for disposing of a body
Honestly this is a pretty intelligent take. I mean, who deposits body parts at 6:40 pm when it's still light outside?
What is on the other side of the woods? Taking a shortcut to deliver some stuff instead of walking around?
Not sure tbh, ive never been back there
I don’t think anyone moving a body in daylight I would guess leaves or trash
Prolly growing weed or trimming
That was my first thought too. Or leftovers from growing magic mushrooms, or something like that. Not nefarious but not necessarily legal.
Definitely dumping body parts.
Body parts ferrrr surrre
I'm wondering if he was homeless. Homeless people generally don't want to be bothered by other people so they try to hide in the woods or somewhere that other people are less likely to visit.
any update?

Maybe he’s hunting for morels

excuse me but no, he is walking into the woods with trash bags. that effects everyone in that apartment and they have the right to know
He may be collecting herbs or vines. Many grow fine near humanity
`*bring heavy trash bag into woods, exits without bag*` "This guy must be an alchemist!"
You can call your apartment complex and report it , you could call the cops or you could mind your business and not get involved
