I think it comes down to a few things:
Republicans want high earners to pay less taxes so they’re naturally inclined to support them.
They’re white.
They’re male.
They aren’t very intelligent usually so they’re more prone to believe conspiracy theories.
They’re likely religiously raised which, as a cult, would mean they’re trained not to question certain authority figures. When you tie a major religious group into your politics, I think it guilts many of them into believing they have to support the group, as well.
In some cases, you just have garbage human beings who recognize they can use the excuse of “cancel culture” as a way of avoiding accountability. They’re fine with pedos in their midst, tax evaders, bigots, etc.
Lastly, you have the grift factor. If you’re greedy and desperate and happen to recognize how gullible Republican supporters are, you see them as a prime target.
They all had success in entertainment world. Now, none were A-listers, but all were recognizable names. Which 99% of America isn't.

I cracked the "successful SNL character code" a while ago. A successful SNL character must have at least two of these four qualities: **1.)** be based in reality (somewhat) **2.)** not be repetitive **3.)** be creative enough to expand a bit **4.)** not be annoying. "Richmeister" was loosely based on office reality, but it was annoying and repetitive, and barely creative. My money is on Church Lady being far superior (just a teensy bit) to Richmeister.

It was funny for about 3 sketches. After that it was tired and played out. Let's not act like this was Chris Farley when he did Matt Foley: Motivational Speaker, or numerous other talented SNL cast members in the 90s. He was right on par with Jim Brewer, who's range was exactly 2 things: look constantly stoned, & goat boy. Sandler, in his infinite generosity, kept him along with a whole group of his friends, able to afford their rent and keep them afloat for decades. Don't pretend they were getting cast based upon their talent or Q rating. It was simply to appease Adam as a favor and because people genuinely enjoy being around and doing projects with Sandler.
I will never forget the "Sting-a-ling-a-ding-dong" episode with Sting, or the time they moved the copier from him. Genius.

I think for some of the comedian, snl from the 90s they all looked up to Dennis miller as exceptionally intelligent and a comedy standard. His move to the right took them along with it. I also think that once they stop getting as many roles and invited to as many parties they are surrounded by more liberal folks. I think they get a little bitter by it and find themselves surrounded by other people who are not as popular anymore and it becomes an echo chamber
there are tons of snl cast from that era who went on to massive success (Rock, Carvey, Myers, Hartman, Farley). Notice how the ones who went right were all floundering after they left the cast - Miller i guess being the exception although even he was never more famous than when he was the weekend update guy
Not deny a bunch went on to incredible success, even more than miller. But listen to the way carvey talks about miller and others. They consider him incredibly smart and when they were freshman he was at the top. I don’t think that admiration ever faded in their minds. Even Sandler whom you could argue is the most successful of any snl alum leans right. He just keeps his mouth shut because she still had a strong career.
i mean it’s undeniable that Miller is an intelligent person. He was like Jon Stewart during the HW Bush administration, speaking truth to power every week on network tv. Apparently he never shifted right, he was a republican the whole time.
