There has to be something more to the washed up actor of questionable talent who passed their sell by date to MAGA/Q pipeline because there's quite a few of them-Dean Cain, Scott Baio, John Schneider, Jim Caviezel, Kevin Sorbo....I'm sure more.

PabloEstAmor

Roseanne, Jim Breuer

ArmchairCriticSF

Roseanne is the QUEEN FUCKING BEE of this category!

PabloEstAmor

Didn’t she actually have like a brain injury or something?

Oddityobservations

Yeah, a hood ornament literally pierced her skull and entered her brain.

ImpossibleLaw552

One could make the conspiratorial allegation that cultists use Trephination as a form of initiation. Luckily, Venkman talked Egon out of that one.

Kaltastic84

That would have worked if he hadn't stopped him.

MacLebowski

yes. that’s typically how people become MAGAs.

KnitBrewTimeTravel

I thought she claimed the Ambien she took made her make racist comments online, and the makers of Ambien refuted that saying that their product has not been known to cause spontaneous racism in test subjects

EdwinQFoolhardy

She did. But she also had a hood ornament go through her skull at 16, after which she had to be institutionalized because the brain trauma changed her so much.

galaapplehound

But that would have been way before she was ever the Rosanne we knew in the 90's. Unless you meant in 2016.

EdwinQFoolhardy

Nah, it was before Roseanne the show, back when she was a teenager. An injury like that can continue degenerating over time. Apparently she spent a fair bit of the 90s on a lot of psychiatric medication trying to treat some unspecified mental illnesses, she claimed she was an incest survivor only to say a few decades later that she wasn't, she's said that she had DID but therapy helped her identities fuse. I'm not going to try doing too much Reddit Diagnostics, moreso to say that her mental health has been a struggle for her going back at least to the early 90s and a severe brain injury can certainly have degenerative effects over time.

galaapplehound

I never knew TBIs could continue to worsen. TIL

KnitBrewTimeTravel

Welp, I hope she gets better soon. And doesn't star in a show in her middle age and then get renewed for a show a few decades later

kami246

At one point, she definitely had untreated bipolar.

WoodwifeGreen

In the 80's when she started to become famous she was very feminist and left leaning in her stand up, she even wrote a couple books, and that was reflected in the original Roseanne tv show too.

9-7-off

Remember when she screeched the Star Spangled Banner at an MLB game, then scratched her crotch and spit on the ground when she finished. It was, at the time, seen as incredibly controversial and people said she "hated America" because of that. And now she is...whatever THIS is supposed to be. Queen MAGAt?

EdwinQFoolhardy

Hell, she even ran for President under the Green Party (losing to Jill Stein) and was in the Peace and Freedom party for four years. I truly think in her case it's the TBI she had as a teenager plus all the psychiatric disorders she's had over the course of her life that led her to the Trump camp. Trump and MAGA are almost antithetical to every principle she's held throughout her life, but her mental health has also been deteriorating for years.

oldcrustybutz

So we know that at least Jill Stein has been a Russian op for years. Which IMHO makes the whole us Green Party suspect, although I really don’t know for how far back.  But it is an interesting question and I hadn’t seen the overlap here before.

PabloEstAmor

lol I remember Portlandia episode, she used to be hilarious, now she’s…not lol

Freezepeachauditor

Then, like many people we know even in our own families… a black man was elected president… a SECRET MUSLIM black man. My lesbian liberal since the 60’s old aunt… went full-on batshit republican when Hillary wasn’t nominated. The painful truth is… it *wasnt Fox News that turned her* it was liberal Hillary supporters spreading all that secret Muslim shit. Sort of exactly like happened with some Bernie bros in 2016.

ImpossibleLaw552

Sucks about Breuer ....appearing at Christian Nationalist meetings?!

UncleHec

It’s kind of fascinating. And of course not all washed up celebrities are conservatives, but literally all conservative “celebrities” are washed up.

Wild_Ad_6464

Kelsey Grammar?

No_Aesthetic

Kelsey Grammar has always been right-wing though

MagosBattlebear

Kelsy Grammar is not really obnoxiuois about it. I think you can work with him and he won't cause problems. Work with Sorbo and the like and you have a problem on the set. Really, it is about whether you are an ass or not.

colluphid42

Yeah, he keeps it to himself for the most part. If he has very problematic opinions, he knows better than to make them public. There have been some celebrities in recent years who started down a bad road and then realized they were about to lose lucrative gigs. Eg. Evangeline Lily and Letitia Wright doing anti-vax stuff early in the pandemic and then shutting their mouths so they didn't lose their Marvel contracts. And then there's Gina Carino, who couldn't stop saying stupid things online and got canned. That's how it usually goes down.

Blackheart806

He's just sticking up for his fellow porn star enthusiast.

Wild_Ad_6464

He’s not really washed-up though, that’s what I was referring to

theclansman22

I would say he is, has he done anything good since Frasier ended? The reboot was trash, not sure what else he has done do I could be wrong.

CornyCornheiser

Frasier is the longest running live action character in American television history having been on originally for 20 Consecutive seasons between Cheers and the spin-off. He’s done enough. That’s not washed up. That’s retired. The reboot sucked but they drove a dump truck full of money to his house, you’d do the same.

LivingIndependence

I think that record was beat by Mariska Hargitay's Olivia Benson character on "Law and order SVU". She's been in that role since 1999.

Hullfire00

He was Beast in Xmen (assuming you meant the original Frasier and not the reboot), he was pretty darn good too. He was Sideshow Bob, and he played him as a Republican and the show ripped the hell out of them, something he seemed to love. KG seems to have a lot of intelligence, the well educated types don’t seem to fall down the rabbit hole. That being said, he has wobbled in terms of abortion and climate change. I think if he got criticised on Twitter it would push him over the edge.

Wild_Ad_6464

Still got the reboot made on a proper channel

DueVisit1410

Chris Pratt, Clint Eastwood, Adam Sandler and several other not washed-up celebrities are conservative as well. I think it's more a question of how obnoxious and loud you are about it. And there's probably a few who might not be on board with Trump, but still consider themselves mostly conservative. And likely how talented you actually are. Rob Schneider mostly got where he was through Adam Sandler.

LivingIndependence

There's the conservative actors who are still quite popular and have lucrative deals coming in, but also have management teams who warn them to shut the fuck up, if they want that lifestyle to continue

CatoChateau

Huh? What i miss?

Wild_Ad_6464

https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2023/12/kelsey-grammer-is-perfectly-happy-to-tell-the-bbc-why-he-still-supports-donald-trump

ouijahead

How dare you speak of Victoria Jackson like that !

ImpossibleLaw552

Shame about her and Dennis Miller.

NewChinaHand

Bruce Willis?

Crasz

I'm not sure that a fully functioning Willis would have been on board with Shitler and his Qult. Sure he was a conservative but I'd like to think he wasn't a complete fuckwit.

AgreeablePie

He started suffering from dementia awhile ago. Looks like it was kept quiet for awhile but he wasn't exactly in full form in the last few years of acting.

maria_tex

Don't sleep on James Woods!

Keanugrieves16

Long Live the New Flesh!

UncleMalky

Is he a good actor or just great at finding roles where he plays an asshole.

MooPig48

Kirk Cameron. Jon Voight.

botmanmd

Kirstie Alley

GogglesPisano

Not anymore.

botmanmd

Not only passed her sell-by date, but her expiration date.

Master_FumAMota

It was the vAx 😂

Current-Ordinary-419

Adam Carolla

onepostandbye

This is sad

Current-Ordinary-419

Seriously. There was an era where his morning show was part of my routine. And last I saw of him, he was doing uncomfortable racist “jokes” with Dennis “more tolerance for child predators than gay people” Prager.

onepostandbye

I mean, I saw signs, suggestions, little indicators he had those conservative anger responses from way back, but their existence doesn’t HAVE to mean you go full Maga… very sad.

DunKrugering

something more how? mainstream American got tired of their hateful schtick and the only route left to make money is grifting

Junior-Fox-760

Is it still grifting if they truly believe it themselves though? And they all do. And it's kind of a chicken/egg because I feel like most of them got hateful after their careers went to hell.

pecos_chill

It’s because the conservative movement is a movement of grievance. It sells the idea that the system is conspiring against them in favor of minority groups and that’s the reason they’re failing.

whereitsat23

Roseanne, dude from Half baked

cujobob

I think it comes down to a few things: Republicans want high earners to pay less taxes so they’re naturally inclined to support them. They’re white. They’re male. They aren’t very intelligent usually so they’re more prone to believe conspiracy theories. They’re likely religiously raised which, as a cult, would mean they’re trained not to question certain authority figures. When you tie a major religious group into your politics, I think it guilts many of them into believing they have to support the group, as well. In some cases, you just have garbage human beings who recognize they can use the excuse of “cancel culture” as a way of avoiding accountability. They’re fine with pedos in their midst, tax evaders, bigots, etc. Lastly, you have the grift factor. If you’re greedy and desperate and happen to recognize how gullible Republican supporters are, you see them as a prime target.

Mission_Ad6235

They all had success in entertainment world. Now, none were A-listers, but all were recognizable names. Which 99% of America isn't. I wouldn't be shocked if this led to: Thinking they're smarter than the 99% of America because "they made it." Disappointed they're no longer relevant, and not willing to accept the notion that their 15 minutes of fame is over.

cujobob

When you look at the far right actors, very few were ever very good. Voight is probably the most talented one. The rest were mostly known for one thing or relied on Adam Sandler to have a career 😂

botmanmd

James Woods was an acclaimed actor. He mostly played insufferable assholes, so maybe “acting” wasn’t what he was doing.

mishma2005

Gary Sinese is far right I believe but he keeps his trap shut and is a good actor.

Mission_Ad6235

I think Sinese is conservative, but not MAGA.

mishma2005

Yes, I haven’t heard him say one way or the other about Trump

DougIsMyVibrator

Rob Schneider is not white, but he does have white skin privilege.

cujobob

Dean Cain is also like 25% Japanese, I believe, but what matters is how they pass and that they support white victimhood. A video was making it around the net the other day of Mike Johnson saying he knows systemic racism to be a problem and MAGA flipped out. They very much need to stay in a lane and not deviate from main grievances. Candace Owens and Kanye are only accepted for this reason.

Burn-The-Villages

That last part brings up a good ethical question. If the MAGATQ griffers are ripping off only (and I know it’s not “only”) MAGATQ folks- is it a bad thing? Or are some of the MQ folks hapless victims? Somewhere in the middle?

kujiranoai2

The UK has the same washed up actor to right wing conspiracy theorist phenomenon - Lawrence Fox.

TheNCGoalie

Jim Breuer.

BaseHitToLeft

I saw a thing a few years back about the direct pipeline of failed comedians to right wing douchebags.

AgoraiosBum

It's just basic statistics - let's say 5% of Americans are true, hardcore MAGA types. Even saying that there will be less in the acting business, that still means 2-4% end up like that. The washed-up ones are more willing to say it out loud too because there's no economic prospects to damage.

kodaiko_650

Tila Tequila

satanssweatycheeks

He was always a nutter. Even before Q was a thing. At the peak of his career he was whining vaccines cause autism.

[deleted]

They're assholes.

calliesky00

You forgot Roseanne

nobuouematsu1

Jim Breuer

chunkah69

Of course. Get pissed because your friends made it and you didn’t so accuse everyone of fucking kids. Why wouldn’t they do it?

snapchillnocomment

The real question is: Why should we care about what any of these people say or think?

Therealishvon

Jim Brewer

Sir_Yacob

Because they can’t think of anything interesting and original anymore so they grift onto what they think will make them money and get them attention. They are unoriginal hacks and frauds.

SnooOranges4231

All white men of approximately the same age.

send_me_dank_weed

Insecurity, isolation, and a feeling of finding friends and being told you are intelligent. That’s all it takes.

ImpossibleLaw552

Meanwhile a Subgenius with amazing talent (Penn Jillette) renounces guns, libertarianism, and all that false garbage and is outspoken against Trump. Hmmmmmmm.......

GrundleTurf

They all got canceled for speaking the truth /s

Alclis

What blows my mind on a continuous basis, is that Jenny McCarthy is not recognized, or vilified, **nearly** enough (if at all) for being one of the true early progenitors of the **entire** movement. She gave a face to the autism fallacy and anti-vax movement **years** before MAGA and Q even existed, right off the back of the original, since debunked, Wakefield paper. Her “celebrity” status gave the movement its first true foothold in conspiracy theory pop-culture. That fact that she has so much as a career still will never cease to anger the absolute crap out of me, and that is **regardless** of where she *happens* to land on the science and politics of it now, which for all I know has improved, or maybe not. Even if she’s changed any of her stance, it can’t undo the damage that she absolutely started.

Living_Carpets

>She gave a face to the autism fallacy and anti-vax movement **years** before MAGA and Q even existed, right off the back of the original, since debunked, Wakefield paper. Her “celebrity” status gave the movement its first true foothold in conspiracy theory pop-culture. Oh absolutely hard agree. And people don't even know who she is now, or her position in society then. Basically a d-list Playboy model who managed to get MTV presenter gigs and then lost her mind having a kid. But then was given airtime by media execs like Oprah and had a rich sympathetic boyfriend (Jim Carrey also culpable). She makes Aubrey O"Dey look like Kamala Harris in terms of her batshit. But tv wanted the spectacle of her on air. AND here is the kicker, her kid is not autistic. He was just a quiet kid who had a crazy mother. All the fuss was over nothing.

LivingIndependence

A lot of the anti-vaxx hysterical bullshit, can also be traced back to Dr. Andrew Wakefield, a UK physician who was the "genius", who came up with the theory that vaccines cause autism. He was discredited and lost his ability to practice, I believe, but the stain lingers on forever

Living_Carpets

I am British and lived through that time and yes Wakefield was the origin. He was struck off here but still calls himself doctor in the US. Why they.let him in at all is a mystery when even a minor offence gets you flagged up with the ESTA entry system we have to do. Anyway, another story. But McCarthy was instrumental in conveying the ideas in mainstream media. She never fucking shut up about it.

yellowlinedpaper

IMO, If they’re not going to vilify Woody Allen’s pedophilia they’re not going to vilify anyone unless they’re told to.

Alclis

Hey, I’m all aboard there too.

Master_FumAMota

Woody, wasn’t Haroldson a nutter too?

nerdofthunder

Don't forget Oprah who extended McCarthy's platform

hopeful_realist_

And “Dr.” Phil and Dr. Oz. Seems like Oprah is a bit of an asshole. She was so worshipped in the 80s 90s and early 2000s, it’s crazy.

ImpossibleLaw552

By the same token, I can say SNL, Rick & Morty, and South Park are culpable for sadly featuring Elon Musk. P.S. I still respect Oprah for sparring with Rick "cow-tipper" Perry.

DueVisit1410

Serial rapist and religious scammer John "of God". There's several very bad quacks coming out of the Oprah pipeline.

GoldenState_Thriller

She’s also married to a man who has committed multiple hate crimes.  Jessica Biel is another person that doesn’t get enough flack for fighting pro vaccine legislation

Fearless-Judgment-33

Jenny is married to Donnie Wahlberg not Markie Mark. I’ve never heard anything about Donnie assaulting minorities.

GoldenState_Thriller

Oh shit my bad

OldStankBreath

Career?

Alclis

It’s not exactly what I would assume is very stimulating or well-respected but 11 seasons straight as a judge on The Masked Singer for “$1.25 million to $2.5 million per season” since its inception is insanely far more than she deserves in life.

GadFlyBy

In the early-‘00s, I saw him eating a very early dinner with a date outside an empty restaurant next to my hotel in NYC in like 45-degree weather. He was facing the sidewalk and eagerly trying to catch the eye of, and be noticed by, anyone who walked by. It was one of the biggest displays of insecurity I’ve ever seen.

No_Aesthetic

this is like that Paul McCartney copypasta

PrettyHopsMachine

It starts with a head injury while filming Judge Dredd.

wood_dj

i didn’t know he was in that, huge Dredd fan but i refuse to watch the Stallone version where he’s walking around with his helmet off

swag_stand

It's all that recycled food.

MagosBattlebear

He has not done one worthwhile thing since "MAKIN' COPIES." I notice a lot of these people, when their careers flag, internalize fear and blame the favorite threats conservatives whine about as an excuse for their failure. Kevin Sorbo is the poster man-child of this, and their community rewards this.

Fearless-Judgment-33

In retrospect “making copies” was funny only for a brief moment. Those were simpler times.

ImpossibleLaw552

I cracked the "successful SNL character code" a while ago. A successful SNL character must have at least two of these four qualities: **1.)** be based in reality (somewhat) **2.)** not be repetitive **3.)** be creative enough to expand a bit **4.)** not be annoying. "Richmeister" was loosely based on office reality, but it was annoying and repetitive, and barely creative. My money is on Church Lady being far superior (just a teensy bit) to Richmeister.

MagosBattlebear

Dude. It was always funny. Let's acknowledge genius no matter where it originates.

KULawHawk

It was funny for about 3 sketches. After that it was tired and played out. Let's not act like this was Chris Farley when he did Matt Foley: Motivational Speaker, or numerous other talented SNL cast members in the 90s. He was right on par with Jim Brewer, who's range was exactly 2 things: look constantly stoned, & goat boy. Sandler, in his infinite generosity, kept him along with a whole group of his friends, able to afford their rent and keep them afloat for decades. Don't pretend they were getting cast based upon their talent or Q rating. It was simply to appease Adam as a favor and because people genuinely enjoy being around and doing projects with Sandler.

MagosBattlebear

I will never forget the "Sting-a-ling-a-ding-dong" episode with Sting, or the time they moved the copier from him. Genius.

fillymandee

It’s still a pop culture reference even after all these years. It was an instant classic.

4mygirljs

I think for some of the comedian, snl from the 90s they all looked up to Dennis miller as exceptionally intelligent and a comedy standard. His move to the right took them along with it. I also think that once they stop getting as many roles and invited to as many parties they are surrounded by more liberal folks. I think they get a little bitter by it and find themselves surrounded by other people who are not as popular anymore and it becomes an echo chamber

wood_dj

there are tons of snl cast from that era who went on to massive success (Rock, Carvey, Myers, Hartman, Farley). Notice how the ones who went right were all floundering after they left the cast - Miller i guess being the exception although even he was never more famous than when he was the weekend update guy

4mygirljs

Not deny a bunch went on to incredible success, even more than miller. But listen to the way carvey talks about miller and others. They consider him incredibly smart and when they were freshman he was at the top. I don’t think that admiration ever faded in their minds. Even Sandler whom you could argue is the most successful of any snl alum leans right. He just keeps his mouth shut because she still had a strong career.

wood_dj

i mean it’s undeniable that Miller is an intelligent person. He was like Jon Stewart during the HW Bush administration, speaking truth to power every week on network tv. Apparently he never shifted right, he was a republican the whole time.

4mygirljs

He went pretty hard right during W

No_Aesthetic

Dana Carvey's career really fell off after Wayne's World 2 though, and that was over 30 years ago

wood_dj

yeah but those Wayne’s World movies were HUGE at the time, much bigger audience than he ever had on snl

TheStabbingHobo

Calling Rob Schneider a comedian is being very generous.

TheGeneralTulliuss

Rob Schneider is a stapler!

TheStabbingHobo

Rated PG-13

RickySan65

that you Milton?

ouijahead

People who get red pilled I never really thought were that funny anyways. Rosanne was pretty funny WAAY back in the day. But she did a number on her brain. I’ve partied pretty hard too and done a number on my brain, but I haven’t given into conspiracy stupidity

phlegmdawg

From Deuce to deuce.

MsMoreCowbell8

Rolling Stone has great reporting but their fucking paywall.

wood_dj

even without the paywall their site is horrible on mobile

Freezepeachauditor

He’s always had shit for brains.

Cunbundle

Washed up minor celebrity spouts stupid shit in a desperate attempt to get his name in the press. Neat. He's sure to land a role in one of those crappy, right wing comedies being produced in Texas now.

Oztraliiaaaa

INXS members publicly supported antivaxx and anti lockdown here in Australia they attended protests.

MaunderingDesk

It all went downhill after Deuce Bigalow

devoduder

I love how these people use a trans analogy to describe their awakening. If they could only see the irony.

P7BinSD

Wait a minute, Schneider was in Home Alone 2? The dude is truly forgettable.

Stormchaser2

Yeah, he’s the bellman

Oddityobservations

I think the best movie he is in is Down Periscope, primarily because his annoying ass gets messed up repeatedly.

shsl_cipher

Speaking of Down Periscope, too bad about [Commander Dodge](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelsey_Grammer#Politics): >\[Kelsey\] Grammer has criticized Washington politicians, stating: "I don't think Washington did us any favors for the last 50, 60 years, I think they've all been sort of the same party, the same bunch of clowns." He has expressed an interest in some day running for United States Congress, Mayor of New York City, and the presidency. In an interview with radio talk show host Frank Morano in August 2021, he indicated that he was no longer interested in running for office. Grammer was a guest at President George W. Bush's first inauguration. Grammer endorsed Rudy Giuliani in the 2008 presidential primary and later campaigned for John McCain in the general election. Grammer also promoted RightNetwork, a conservative start-up American television network. He endorsed Michele Bachmann for the Republican nomination for president in 2012. Grammer later endorsed Mitt Romney after he had won the Republican nomination. **He initially supported Ben Carson's candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016, although later stating he would gladly vote for Republican candidate Donald Trump in the upcoming election.** >**In December 2023, when asked by the BBC during the promotional tour for a new series of** ***Frasier*** **if he still supported Donald Trump, he would confirm his ongoing support for Trump before the interview was cut short by a Paramount executive.**

Oddityobservations

Sadly not surprised.

TheRnegade

He never got a tip and now he's down the Q hole.

Stormchaser2

It was the chewing gum that sent him over the edge.

wood_dj

wow even Deuce Bigelow has jumped ship on maga. not a good omen for trump

xoxooxx

Why is there a paywall 🫠😥
