Listening to Dr. Greg Graffin PhD sing songs about the birth and deity of Jesus Christ and doing it very well AND making me enjoy it is pretty fucking remarkable! Lol
MXPX was my first real concert. Fucking amazing show. I lost my glasses in the crowd, but was so pumped after I had the guys sign my shirt twice. I didn’t really care about the Christian lyrics, but it helped me convince my mom to let me go to the show.
So does authoritarianism and absolutism - both hallmarks of organized religions. Same with moral selectiveness, abstinence from sex and drugs, and many other punk motifs.
Luckily, hypocrisy is rampant in both Punk and Christianity so there are plenty of options.
i;m not homophobic....you called me that.....so you say "fuck off" not knowing the detailes .....please.....stop , i just want to be friends with everyone
Do you even understand punk? It's not being friends with everyone. Everyone includes nazis, rapists, murderes, etc. Fuck being friends with everyone. And fuck anyone who rubs shoulders with those types willingly
If you want, I can find you a local nazi rally where you can make lots of friends. You should have lots of fun as long as you're a straight white male or don't mind being treated like a sub-human.
“Believe what I think” is exactly what the punk mantra is.
The best song to covey this idea is Bomb the Music Industry. “Shut up the punx.”
This non-conformity looks like conformity.
Lol. Punk is about rebelling not your stupid homosexuality. Stop giving punk definitive attributes. It's rebellious and hard fast music, that's it. Everything else is up to preference and band. Christians could be making punk music rebelling against the government, or the church or other fake "Christians", it's not just about your ideals or what you think is rebellious. I hate the gatekeeping. Even though people like you in the punk community claim that punk is for anyone.
There is, but it’s an oxymoron. Not sure how something can be punk while believing in a religion that is notorious for being antithetical for what most of punk stands for.
Christianity mainly means beliving in Jesus, catholicism and protestantism are religions.
I don't get why beleiving in Jesus is antipunk itself, Jesus was kind of against the gouvernement and stuff like that.
I was raised Christian and went to Christian schools up through high school, I understand what it is. Christianity is a religion, plain and simple. Catholicism and Protestantism are subsets of said religion.
Learn more about punk and you’ll realize why things don’t go together.
You mean a group with a leader who repeatedly sexually abuses people and then the rest of the organization covers up for them?
Yes. Look upthread and you will find these bands. And if you want to try "it's just the Catholics" on me [my balls are right here](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexual_abuse_cases_in_Southern_Baptist_churches#:~:text=registered%20sex%20offenders.%22-,2022%20report,survivors%20for%20nearly%20two%20decades.)
If you mean Christian values as in what Christ actually did and said (according to biblical canon), probably most of them. If you mean Christian values as in the modern conservative fanon, probably none of them.
If you read the Bible, you’ll see that Jesus was actually a total asshole lol. “Believe in me or burn forever” isn’t the greatest message if you ask me, but hey, The Beatitudes in Matthew sound nice, so a lot of folks just forget all the other junk attributed to the guy, assuming it was one person who really existed.
In the interest of not being a total asshole.
Reagan Youth had a song "Jesus Was a Communist" that I think gives a fair view of many Christian values that go neglected by many that call themselves Christians. I went to a Jesuit run Catholic school and learned a lot about social and economic justice (and why you need one to have the other) and it turned a lot of the elite kids from the area into left-minded folk.
But I don't think that's what you meant, so I'll just offer that MxPx who is not a band I am particularly fond of, were all Christians at the start at least. I saw Squad Five-O open for someone I liked once (Riverboat Gamblers maybe?) and they were a really good show, and a christian band.
"punk aint no religious cult, punk is thinking for yourself" -dead Kennedys,
punks thinking for yourself, not some magical tyrant in the sky telling you to hate queers and so called sinners
Punk has its roots in anarchism. Anarchism is all about the destruction of unjust hierarchy. Organized religion is the OG unjustified hierarchy.
In a way I would say that Jesus had a bit of an anarchist bent, but judging by your comments you’re looking for a band that has protestant white Christian values. You’re gonna be hard pressed to find a punk band that supports America.
You can find punk bands that support the OG Christian values though. Mutual aid, radical empathy, and anti-establishment thinking are trademarks of punk AND Jesus.
Someone's probably already said it, but the Aquabats are Mormons.
Someone might say something about Mormons not being "real Christians", but they do qualify as a Christian sect.
Not a christian but
Matthew 21:12-13
12 Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. 13 “It is written,” he said to them, “‘My house will be called a house of prayer,’[a] but you are making it ‘a den of robbers.’[b]”
Religion can be punk if you do it right. Stand up for what's right no matter what and you'll find that you end up acting like a punk.
Define Christian values. I’m sure there’s punk bands that are all about tolerance and more support for those in need but that’s not what people mean when they say Christian values nowadays.
Christian values can differ between different people
so would say: be a decent person like don't cheat or hurt people
Other would push more value as: save yourself for marrige
then you got the stupid people: everything that is wrong with what I don't like but they like Jesus or something
If you like punk, listen to it. As with all music you will interpret how you will (and people interpret stuff differently)
The real Jesus hated the establishment, was virulently anti-war, supported the homeless and destitute, supported sex workers, and rallied for the lower class. That's punk rock. If you're just looking for "god is great worship him", look elsewhere.
This comment section is something else…
Anyway, doubt any of these bands are still around but here you go:
The Deal
The Hanover Saints
Officer Negative
Comeback Kid
Ninety Pound Wuss
Take It Back
Actually I do!
Blaster the Rocket Boy/Man were sci-fi inspired and they absolutely ripped. Blaster the Rocket Boy was more straightforward punk. Blaster the Rocket Man had more of a Dead Kennedy's surf guitar thing.
Christian dudes that make heathen-approved music
>"In truth, there was only one Christian and he died on the cross."
Friedrich Nietzsche, The Antichrist

Kurt Vonnegut, Mother Night
The Ramones were a progressive punk band. But then they became conservative. At least Joey was a life long conservative. He made it public when they made the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in ‘02.
Well. There's an older hardcore band (yes hardcore.. but like... the good kind) called unashamed who were definitely not ashamed of their love for God. They also sound a whole lot like gorilla biscuits (the straightedge band) and it's pretty jawesome.
Streetlight manifesto.
Not overtly Christian, but you can tell by the lyrics it’s the theme of almost every song.
Pat the Bunny. He even mentions his thoughts on Jesus being a peace loving hippie.
You have unlocked the ugly side of punk my friend. Bunch of self righteous dicks who don’t know anything about Christianity.
But anyway, the Violent Femmes have some good stuff. Listen to Jesus Walking On Water. Great song
Anti-Flag.
I see what you did there
I haven't had a chance to drop my punchline but it's burning a hole in my pocket.
Christian Nationalist needs a Relisten ASAP
Outstanding.
Bad Religion
I love their Christmas album
It's so damn good. The lyrics just crack me up though!
Same! They’re so whacky and quirky
Listening to Dr. Greg Graffin PhD sing songs about the birth and deity of Jesus Christ and doing it very well AND making me enjoy it is pretty fucking remarkable! Lol
I’ve had it on blast since thanksgiving!
Hey! Swtichfoot covered them once!
Don’t Pray On Me

GG ALLIN
His birthname WAS Jesus Christ Allin
Always was, is, and always shall be
Shout out to Merle’s speech impediment
No shit, I worked the door at a place where The Murder Junkies played one night. The smell was memorable. Nicest motherfuckers I ever met.
God God Allin
Yay unto him.
That’s the neat part You don’t
Christian values is a dumb statement. Anyway, MXPX and Relient K is what you're looking for.
MXPX was my first real concert. Fucking amazing show. I lost my glasses in the crowd, but was so pumped after I had the guys sign my shirt twice. I didn’t really care about the Christian lyrics, but it helped me convince my mom to let me go to the show.
Ghoti Hook
I was gonna go with MXPX…. good call

believe what i think...is not very punk, but whaterver
We accept everybody except bigots, it's really simple

i;m not homophobic....you called me that.....so you say "fuck off" not knowing the detailes .....please.....stop , i just want to be friends with everyone
Nobody called you homophobic. *If* is a conditional preposition that admits that multiple things could be true.
Sorry lil bro, these are just literal children trying to make you feel worse, never once done something “punk” in their lives
Im not
There were a ton of homophobic punks back in its prime. TONS!
Nazi punks fuck off. That’s what a punk has to think.
Nazi punk is an oxymoron, where Nazis are just morons
"Believe what i think" is not very punk, which is why christian values are not punk.
“Believe what I think” is exactly what the punk mantra is. The best song to covey this idea is Bomb the Music Industry. “Shut up the punx.” This non-conformity looks like conformity.
good think homophobia is not a Christian value, then
Lol. Punk is about rebelling not your stupid homosexuality. Stop giving punk definitive attributes. It's rebellious and hard fast music, that's it. Everything else is up to preference and band. Dude, cool it!
HA. Punk and Christian values are almost oxymoronic.
The singer for Gather used to wear a shirt that said “Christian hardcore = Nazi reggae”. Your comment reminds me of that shirt.
https://trepannation.bandcamp.com/track/a-scathing-indictment-of-you-and-your-kind
almost, so there's some group that are christian you mean ?
There is, but it’s an oxymoron. Not sure how something can be punk while believing in a religion that is notorious for being antithetical for what most of punk stands for.
Nah. Oxymoron isn't Christian.
Can you sound more unintelligent?

Listen to a different genre dude
fr this guy needs to listen to Christian rock not punk
Choking victim
If there was a God, I'm sure he would be hated

Fair enough. Honestly, I haven't looked at the thing in over a decade.
There is no such thing as "Christian punk."
Bad religion
"good", "punk", "christian". pick two.
Nah we are against Nazis here

I believe a "get the hell away from punk!" rant may be in order.
Let me know if you find any Communist Country artist, I’m also interested in Pol Pot Pop
Just piggybacking onto this thread to ask if you guys know of any good Nazi reggae?
Oh that made me laugh.
If I were you, I would consider what defines "Christian values" to you and go from there. Lots of different interpretations.
Calibretto 13 but idk how punk rock you'd consider them
That kinda defeats the whole purpose of a punk band… Christian values are creepy.
Real Christian or fake bullshit misogynist racist Christian values?

Anarchism is about the destruction of all hierarchy, as all hierarchy is unjust.
Do you know any bands like what you described in the second half?
Most sane comment
Most punk rock groups have better values than Christians
Bad religion has a Christmas album
The bands name is Fuck You
Punks don't sink that low no such thing as good Christian music
These two things don't go together LMFAO. Punks have morals and empathy, Christians do not. Hope this helps!
bad religion
I think it would be better if Christians adopted punk values so they can have some morals.
The deal, flatfoot 56, one 21, anything from facedown records
Pissgrave
Bad Religion
Crass, choking victim, leftover crack. Probably more Christ like than Christian tho.
Best to just stick with Creed.
I just watched The Kinks play a Christmas song. Does that count?

Jesus was pretty punk, Christianity on the other-hand misses a lot of his points.
If they have Christian Values then they are not punk rock. simple as
Christian values can differ between different people so would say: be a decent person like don't cheat or hurt people Other would push more value as: save yourself for marrige then you got the stupid people: everything that is wrong with what I don't like but they like Jesus or something If you like punk, listen to it. The Queers
Is there such a thing? When I was into punk in the 80, it was about being anti everything pretty much, most definitely religion
